Talk British to Me by Robin Bielman

Genre: Contemporary Romance

Synopsis

As the Dating Guy on L.A.’s top morning show, I give the single guy’s perspective on dating, love, and sex—and I give great advice. Everyone’s hooking up…well, except for me. Sure, I can get any woman I want, but I’ve got a “no relationship” clause in my contract and the only woman I want has “relationship” written all over her. Probably stamped on her ass, too. And wouldn’t I like to confirm that.

Unfortunately, she wants nothing to do with me. At all. Something about the next Ice Age might have even come up in her rebuttal. Adorable. Because she’s determined to ignore what one simple kiss proved: she wants me as badly as I want her.

Everything in me is screaming to go after her, but I’ve got a secret that I’m fairly certain will end up with her roasting my nuts over an open fire. So, job on the line? Check. Nuts on the line? Check. Can’t get her out of my head? Nail…meet coffin. But what a way to go…

Excerpt

I lean down to whisper in her ear. I can’t help it. I can tell from her body language that I make her nervous, and right now I’m a total cad, but I’m curious to see her reaction to my words. She did walk right into them. “Are you saying I make you wet, Teague?”

The trunk pops open, almost hitting her in the forehead when she balks at my question. She’s blushing, but her warm blue eyes hook me with sparks of anger. Several charged seconds pass before she speaks.

“Does it hurt? Being so full of yourself?” She turns to rummage through a small pile of clothes in her trunk. “News flash, stuck-up”—she glances at my attire, I’m guessing—“jock, you don’t make me feel anything. I’m sure there are plenty of girls in this town you can charm the panties off of with your attitude and voice, but I’m not one of them. So please do me a favor and keep your unsavory thoughts to yourself.”

Several things about what she just said hit me like a ton of goddamn bricks. That she called me a jock makes me grin. I’m wearing long athletic shorts with my collared shirt and running shoes.

She’s right about girls’ panties, but she’s the only girl to mention my voice. What would she think if I used my British accent on her? The station manager says she gets more calls about my accent than anything else.

And this bolder, more assertive, yet wholesome Teague is hot.

Don’t even get me started on her use of the word “unsavory.”

I am so fucked.

This isn’t a random chick anymore. She works for my mom. This sweet, beautiful, genuine, fascinating girl has a last name and knows my mother.

COVER REVEAL: Dear Bridget, I Want You by Penelope Ward and Vi Keeland

We are excited to bring you the next cover from  New York Times, USA Today, and Wall Street Journal Bestselling Authors Penelope Ward & Vi Keeland.

DEAR BRIDGET, I WANT YOU is the next standalone Contemporary Romance Novel from this sensational duo releasing on September 18, 2017!

Model:  Philip Van den Hoogenband – Chadwick Models Melbourne

Photographer:  Brian Jamie

Cover designer:  Letitia Hasser, RBA Designs

Dear Bridget,

I’m writing this letter because it’s highly doubtful I’ll ever garner the courage to say this to your face.

So, here goes.

We’re totally wrong for each other. You’re the proper single mum with a good head on your shoulders. I’m just the carefree British doctor passing through town and temporarily living in your converted garage until I head back to England.

But here’s the thing… for some bloody reason, I can’t stop thinking about you in very inappropriate ways.

I want you.

The only reason I’m even admitting all of this to you right now is because I don’t believe it’s one-sided. I notice your eyes when you look at me, too. And as crass as I appear when we’re joking around about sex, my attraction to you is not a joke.

So, what’s the purpose of this note? I guess it’s a reminder that we’re adults, that sex is healthy and natural, and that you can find me just through the door past the kitchen. More specifically, it’s to let you know that I’m leaving said door cracked open from now on in case you’d like to visit me in the middle of the night sometime.

No questions asked.

Think about it.

Or don’t.

Whatever you choose.

It’s doubtful I’ll even end up sliding this letter under your door anyway.

–Simon

DEKLAN - About Book

My father owes a debt.

I am his currency.

I’m supposed to marry the recently crowned mafia king of the Foley family as repayment for my father’s transgressions. I don’t understand why the Foleys would want me, but I’ve grown up in a crime family, and I know the ugly consequences of not doing what you’re told.

But as the wedding date approaches, the deal changes, and I’m about to be wed to a man I know nothing about. In fact, I don’t even know his last name.

Instead of becoming a mafia princess, I’m marrying the henchman.

Deklan.

After one look at him, I’m not sure I’ll survive the wedding night.

Review

Loyalty…that’s what all relationships come down to, driving every decision made and action taken, and when those allegiances are tested, that’s when people truly know where they stand with one another and if those faithful friends and family members are as devoted as they say they are.

In Shay Savage’s newest release, Deklan, Kera O’Conner doesn’t have any other option but to be loyal to her father when she’s deemed as payment for what he owes the Foley family, and from her wedding day on, her choice of husband, of place to live, of a job are no longer her own, proving just how much of a pawn she’s always been when it comes to her father’s business dealings with criminals.

Deklan Kearney has been faithful to the Foley family ever since the family’s patriarch, Fergus Foley, gave him a job and a place to belong, so when Fergus’ son, Sean, takes over the family business and requires Deklan to take his place as Kera’s groom, Deklan does what he’s told, but every decision he makes after their wedding seems to illustrate his loyalty to protecting his new wife and doing right by her, which makes his ties to Sean and the Foley family a lot more complicated and perhaps even a bit more fickle.

The beginning of Deklan definitely grabs readers’ attention and then once the wedding day unfolds and Kera begins her new life as Deklan’s wife, everything becomes quite overwhelming for both of them; Deklan’s position as mafia enforcer is risky, which means that Kera can be used against him by the Foley’s enemies, forcing her to remain isolated and lonely as Deklan continues his henchman duties.

Because the story is told strictly through Kera’s perspective, it’s hard to truly get a handle on the type of man Deklan is. He’s a bit of an enigma because he’s a religious man who believes in Catholic doctrines, but he also is a crime organization’s muscle and as such must complete tasks that leave blood on his hands and his soul. He’s caring and gentle when it comes to Kera, but he’s also secretive and brutal when it comes to his job for the Foleys.

Even after reading the story, I’m not exactly sure how I feel about Kera. She handled a series of difficult situations the best she could, but there were times that her actions didn’t sit well with me. I get that she’s only 20 years old and that she has been sheltered much of her life due to her kidnapping when she was 15, but I didn’t think that some of her reactions fit how she’s been portrayed throughout the story, so I struggled with some of the character development.

Overall, I really liked Deklan. It was interesting to watch everything play out between Deklan and Kera since they entered into a marriage not knowing much about each other. Because the inner workings of the Foley organization were illustrated throughout the book, it was easy to understand why certain actions were taken and what was going to have to be done in order to ensure the family’s reputation remained in tact.

I always enjoy the gritty worlds and dynamic characters that Shay Savage creates, and Deklan definitely stays true to Savage’s winning formula.

About Kristen Ashley

Kristen Ashley was born in Gary, Indiana, USA and nearly killed her mother and herself making it into the world, seeing as she had the umbilical cord wrapped around her neck (already attempting to accessorize and she hadn’t taken her first breath!). Her mother said they took Kristen away, put her Mom back in her room, her mother looked out the window, and Gary was on fire (Dr. King had been assassinated four days before). Kristen’s Mom remembered thinking it was the end of the world. Quite the dramatic beginning.

Nothing’s changed.

Kristen grew up in Brownsburg, Indiana and has lived in Denver, Colorado and the West Country of England. Thus, she’s blessed to have friends and family around the globe. Her family was (is) loopy (to say the least) but loopy is good when you want to write. They all lived together on a very small farm in a small farm town in the heartland. She grew up with Glenn Miller, The Everly Brothers, REO Speedwagon and Whitesnake (and the wardrobes that matched).

Needless to say, growing up in a house full of music, clothes and love was a good way to grow up.

And as she keeps growing, it keeps getting better.

COVER REVEAL AND EXCERPT: Love Profound by Kelly Elliott

I write about love, but I’ve never experienced it. Sure, I’ve been with guys that I cared about. Even thought I found ‘the one’. He turned out to be the frog and not the prince.

A few Frank Sinatra songs and a wildly handsome cowboy who calls me Darlin’, will have me second guessing everything I ever thought I knew about love.

Does happily ever after really exist…or is it only something I write about in books?

Love Profound is book two in the Cowboys and Angels series.

Excerpt

With a roar of laughter, I got up and walked up to him. “Mitchell, seriously, do you honestly think one of your friends would ever touch me? Hell, half the guys in this town are afraid to even look at me, let alone sleep with me.”

“Don’t say that.” He covered his ears.

I rolled my eyes. “Sit back down, and don’t put a hit on Rodney. He’s a nice guy. I tried hitting on him once, did my best moves and he turned me down flat. Said he valued his life over his dick.”

This time Mitchell’s body relaxed and he let out a chuckle. “You realize you almost had me killing one of my closest friends, Amelia?”

Shrugging, I replied, “You do know I have had sex before and with some people you know.”

He shuddered. “Why are we having this conversation?”

“You brought it up!”

“No I didn’t. I simply said I was on vacation you brought up having sex!”

My father walked into the kitchen and stopped. “Who is having S. E. X?”

“That spells sex,” Chloe called out as she ran by all of us and headed into the game room.

“Lord almighty, that child is a good speller.” Mom said.

“Back to my original question, who is having S. E … oh hell. Sex?”

“Mitchell.” I said a little too quickly. He shot his head over and glared at me.

“I hope your wearing a C.O.N—”

Standing, he held up his hands. “Mom, please.”

Hiding my smile behind my hands, I tried not to laugh when Mitchell shot me the finger when my parent’s weren’t looking.

“Don’t mom please me young man. Practicing safe … festivities … is never anything to shy away from.”

My hands dropped to my lap as I stared at my mother.

“Festivities?” Mitchell and I said at once.

“Little ears around. Little ears,” mom said with a wink and smile. “Amelia, the same goes for you.”

RELEASE REVIEW: STAY by Sarina Bowen and Elle Kennedy

Stay (Wags #2)

Can you fall in love with someone you’ve never even met?

Hailey Taylor Emery has a hunch that her favorite client at Fetch–an anonymous virtual assistant service–is actually hockey star Matt Eriksson.

Although it’s against the rules for her to check his file, she’s 95% sure she spends at least part of each day texting with her lifelong crush and catering to his every need. Still nursing a wounded heart thanks to her recent breakup, Hailey is perfectly content with some harmless online flirting…until she has to meet her client. Face to face. Cue: utter panic.

Matt Eriksson is no stranger to heartbreak. He’s still not over the destruction of his marriage, and it sucks to be the only guy on the team who knows the truth–that hockey and long-term relationships are a toxic mix. He barely sees his kids, and dealing with his ex makes him feel insane. The only person in his life who seems to understand is someone who won’t show her pretty face.

But it’s nothing that a pair of fourth row hockey seats can’t fix. Hailey can’t resist the offer. Matt can’t resist Hailey. Good thing he doesn’t have to. Fire up the kiss cam!

Warning: Contains rabid hockey fans, misunderstood dick pics, hockey players at the opera and exploding ovaries.

Review

When Matt Eriksson was introduced in book 1 of the WAGs series, I was desperate for his story to be told…I wanted him to so badly get the happily ever after he deserved after his marriage imploded and all of the blame was placed squarely on his shoulders due to his frequent absences because of his career.

18 months after his divorce, he’s left jaded and his self confidence has been put through the wringer because his ex-wife isn’t making his life easy, especially when it comes to spending time with his twin girls.  Now, as all of his teammates are involved in happy and healthy relationships, he’s left to pick up the pieces of his life and figure out if a new relationship is something he can have when everything in him believes it’s impossible.

Haley Emery’s divorce may not have been due to her career, but it’s still wreaked havoc on her life; she’s lost her best friend and over thinks and second guesses every move she makes when it comes to moving on and dating again. Never in her wildest dreams did she think her long-time celebrity crush would find her attractive or want a chance to date her, but that’s exactly what happens when Sniper87 figures out who Hottie is and goes out of his way to pursue her, even if neither of them know exactly what they want from each other.

Sarina Bowen and Elle Kennedy do a fantastic job of illustrating just how much Matt and Haley’s disastrous marriages have changed their outlook on dating and relationships while also making it abundantly clear that their attraction is way beyond physical, so as much as Matt and Haley want to believe that it’s only fun not a relationship, the way they feel and how that’s expressed in their words and actions seems to prove otherwise.

It’s definitely a delicate situation – one that must recognize how a new relationship will affect more than just themselves. Matt’s girls as well as his ex-wife and Haley’s business are all factors that must be considered, but at the heart of Matt and Haley’s issues is Matt’s belief that his job is not conducive to getting serious with anyone and due to Haley’s inexperience, her nerves and uncertainty make her a “bumbleberry” and a “flutterstutter.” So, even if it’s clear as day to readers and to those around Matt and Haley, having a second chance at love might be out of the question.

I can’t get enough of Bowen and Kennedy’s hockey studs and their WAGs. There’s just something about their camaraderie and loyalty that stands out in each one of the stories, and in Stay, readers get to witness how two realistically portrayed characters learn from their mistakes and vow to find their happiness even if it wasn’t originally how they planned it.

Matt and Haley’s story is charming, sweet, and sexy, and it will have readers swooning over the way Matt takes care of Haley, giggling over Haley’s nervous behavior, and anxiously anticipating the happy couple finding a way to get past what happened to them in order to move forward in a healthy and honest way.

This author duo is definitely one of my favorites and I can’t wait to see what they plan to give readers next!

He’s set to start living on the edge, but when he meets Poppy Cruz, her sad eyes in the most gorgeous face he’s ever seen hook him in right away. Review

I’ve been waiting to read Wheeler and Poppy’s book since I met them in Jay’s previous stories. Both characters were completely eviscerated by the people who were supposed to love them the most, and while the damage done to them was strikingly different, their scars and demons threaten to destroy their futures because being a survivor is a difficult uphill battle that sometimes feels too much to manage on their own.

Hudson Wheeler is the quintessential good guy, but that’s not simply who he’s always been…it was a conscious decision in order to have what he’s always wanted – a family. Based on his hellacious childhood and the fact that there was no one to look out for him besides himself, he vowed to obtain the life he always longed for, even if it meant over pleasing the girl he thought he’d have forever.

Wheeler’s life definitely didn’t work out the way he thought it would, but in Salvaged, he learns to take the broken and tattered pieces of his life and rebuild them in an effort to juggle all of the changes life threw at him and also to help heal the girl he always saw, even when he wasn’t supposed to truly see her.

Poppy Cruz’s life has never been her own; since her childhood, there’s always been a man dictating what her life is supposed to be like, controlling her in every way and  making her feel like she’s nothing but a toy for him to play with and abuse. The amount of trauma and pain Poppy has endured would leave most people incapable of moving forward, but she refused to completely break, and she’s slowly found ways to heal and work through her fears, her nightmares, and her constant inferior feelings. But when Poppy truly comes alive is when Wheeler helps her to slay her dragons and gives her the support she needs to free herself from the chains of her past and recover the woman she was always meant to be.

Wheeler and Poppy’s path to happiness is absolutely a work-in-progress, but it’s easy to see that by being each other’s right person, all things are possible. Through every kind word and comforting touch, Wheeler proves to Poppy that there are men in the world she doesn’t need to be afraid of…men who would do right by her regardless of the struggles she bares to them, and through every gentle movement and careful step that Wheeler makes towards Poppy, she learns to takes steps towards him, cherishing the fact that he can take her bent and broken pieces and put them back together in a way that heals her fractures and binds them together.

Wheeler and Poppy are amazing characters who grow as individuals and as a solid couple throughout the duration of their story. Jay Crownover absolutely stays true to who these two people are at their core and tells their story in the most beautiful way possible. Wheeler and Poppy rebuild themselves as the story progresses, but they also provide the tools to help one another keep their head above water. Their journey is not easy, but it’s made clear from the beginning that they are survivors in every sense of the word and they’re exactly what the other one needs to blossom from something that was considered worthless to something that is beyond priceless and amazing.

I CANNOT begin to tell readers how amazing Wheeler and Poppy’s story is! I’ve adored Jay’s writing since I read Rule all those years ago, but there’s something even more spectacular and beautiful about SALVAGED…maybe it’s Jay’s openness about writing a story about two characters who aren’t her typical definition of broken. But Wheeler and Poppy’s story will stay with me for a long time because it illustrates the idea of what it means to be a true survivor and how the past doesn’t have to define one’s future…it’s all about fighting for oneself and finding the right place to land and the right people to stay by one’s side even when past demons want to claim what they consider theirs time and time again.

Excerpt

I didn’t want her to be scared of anything ever again.

Things at home had been rocky, rougher than class-five rapids in winter, but I was paddling for my life and prepared to ride it out. I couldn’t let go. I wouldn’t let go. I saw Poppy the day she walked through my shop and I started to feel how sore my hands and my heart were from holding on.

Her head was down, focused on the tips of her shoes. Her shoulders were hunched over and her long hair hid her face. She was skinny, so skinny, nothing but skin and bones. She was nothing that I should have noticed, not because she was clearly doing everything in her power to be invisible, but because I was supposed to have my eyes locked on my future and doing whatever I could do to salvage it. But I did notice her and I couldn’t look away once I did.

She was obviously terrified, clearly out of her element and uncomfortable, but it wasn’t her unease that called to me…it was her loneliness. I could feel it filling up the space that separated us. Stretching, growing, expanding until it was all I was breathing in and exhaling back out. It was bitter on my tongue and heavy across my skin because I knew the feeling well. I lived with it pressing me down and pushing me forward every minute of every day. The reason I was so set on the way things had to be, the reason I was singlemindedly set on settling down and building a life with the girl that was slipping through my fingers was because I never again wanted to be as alone as this girl was. I didn’t want to be left and forgotten. I’d barely survived it the first time.

I did my best to sell her a car that was as beautiful as she was…a classic with clean lines and a flawless finish. She picked something practical and boring but that was ultimately safe and reliable. I understood her choice but it grated and annoyed me long after she left the shop. When she wasn’t standing in front of me, she should have been easy to forget; after all, everything in front of me, everything I had been working for and toward, was falling down in front of my eyes. My world was collapsing in on itself and everything I thought I was so goddamn sure about turned out to be nothing more than lies and illusions. In the middle of all of it, I couldn’t forget her sad eyes and shivering, shaking form. Her loneliness clung to me, unshakable and unforgettable. I didn’t think I would see her again and against my better judgment I often found myself wondering how she was doing and if she had gotten a handle on all the things that seemed to be crushing her under their inescapable weight.

I was wrong about seeing her again, just like I was wrong about thinking that doing everything in my life differently from how my mother had lived hers would ensure my happiness and a future built on an unshakeable foundation. I was wrong about hard work and sacrifice being enough. I was wrong about holding on when what I was holding on to desperately wanted me to let go. All I was left with was bleeding palms, rope burns around my heart and scars on my soul.

The next time I saw Poppy Cruz it was my loneliness that was filling up the space, suffocating me, choking me, making me forget to handle her with care. I was nothing more than a vast, open wound. One that was raw, aching, throbbing, and leaking my heart and shattered emotions out everywhere. I felt like I’d lost everything, like my entire life had been nothing but a waste of time, nothing more than building blocks knocked over with the swipe of a careless hand. The girl I loved didn’t love me back, my future was ultimately nothing more than a fuzzy, fractured blur. I couldn’t see anything clearly other than waste and ruin.

But I saw her. And I saw that I scared her.

It was the last thing I wanted to do but my loneliness was just as big and just as consuming as hers was. It spread out, hungry and angry, looking to consume anyone that might try and challenge its reign.

I tried to pull myself together, apologized because I knew our paths would cross again now that she lived next door to my best friend. I didn’t want to be another man that she was terrified of. I locked the loneliness down, wrestled it into submission, and tried to quiet down the wild inside of me that was howling, screaming at the loss of its mate. I wanted to be nothing more than gnashing teeth and tearing claws but I swallowed those instincts and allowed myself to be like a kicked puppy that just wanted to whimper and cry.

Poppy had been through more than I could imagine. She was the one I couldn’t look away from, but even then, she managed to slip past me and disappear. She looked like honey but she moved like a ghost. I memorized everything about her even though she hardly let me see her face.

I wasn’t supposed to be looking at anything other than how to salvage the mess my life was in, but she was all I could see.

Review

Since the beginning of Lexi Blake’s Lawless series, the Lawless siblings quest to avenge their parents’ deaths has led each brother to take drastic measures, compromising their principals and taking advantage of anyone who can help them bring down those responsible, and even though Riley and Bran made amends to the women they betrayed, Drew Lawless is nothing like his brothers, so using a woman for anything more than a release isn’t going to be easy, especially when his heart starts to dictate his actions and his treatment of Shelby Tate.

Revenge is the perfect title for Drew’s story because that has been his singular focus, besides providing for and protecting his siblings, since he built his company and had the means to destroy those people who destroyed their lives. But as each book in the series is published, readers realize that Drew’s plans have to be modified because the person responsible for wreaking havoc on the Lawless family is someone he never would have considered and now not only does he have to deal with the emotional fallout of discovering the truth, but he also must decide how best to protect his siblings, knowing that their lives will be upended even more than they already were all those years ago.

Lexi Blake has always portrayed Drew Lawless as a ruthless and controlled man, which is exactly who he was forced to become as the oldest Lawless sibling. In his viewpoint, his brothers and sister are his responsibility and he doesn’t take that position lightly. Everything he does revolves around providing for and protecting them and he’ll do whatever he needs to do to ensure their safety, even if that means compromising parts of himself to be able to do so. He’s a powerful man who knows how to work the system due to his intellect and deep pockets, but he doesn’t know the first thing about how to show someone his heart without making it a contracted transaction – one that is mutually beneficial but also temporary. So when Drew brings Shelby into his life, into his home, and even into his bed, it’s part of his plan for revenge on the only enemy who hasn’t already paid for their part in destroying his family, but what Drew doesn’t anticipate is the fact that Shelby is not someone who can be handled the way he normally takes care of those around him, proving that perhaps it’s time for someone to give Drew what he’s always needed but never asked for – a person who puts what he needs first and takes on his burdens so that he finally has a chance to claim something completely for himself, which is not something that he’s ever done before.

Drew may piss off a slew of characters in the story as well as some readers who don’t agree with his words or actions, but if everyone took one step back and looked at who Drew had to become at such a young age and the fact that he’s put every part of himself into taking care of everyone around him, it makes sense why he doesn’t know how to deal with his true feelings for Shelby or tries to get what he wants by less than stellar tactics, making himself look like an arrogant prick who’s incapable of opening himself up even one someone gives him the chance to do so.

Shelby is Drew’s perfect counterpart because she’s an independent woman who knows how to handle herself in difficult situations and as a investigative reporter, she’s not afraid to get dirty in the process. She might have been blackmailed into pretending to be Drew’s girlfriend in order to tell the story of the century, but she stands by Drew throughout the entire story because she sees something in him and herself that gives them a fighting chance at something real amidst the deception.

Central to the storyline in Revenge is Drew working to figure out the final puzzle piece of that tragic event all those years ago, and while he’s definitely close to allowing his family to move on, his enemy is figuring out ways to play with him, to destroy his leads, and to take him down. And let me tell you, there are mind-boggling twists and surprising revelations that threaten to upend all of Drew’s progress, forcing him to develop new maneuvers and to shutout those who willingly want to help make things easier on him because he’s always been the one to fix and take care of every aspect of his and his siblings’ lives.

I’ve loved every second spent with the Lawless clan, and I’m hoping that Lexi Blake isn’t finished with this series because one of the characters who is introduced in Revenge needs his story told, and I would love for Blake to do just that!

5 Poison Apples

Excerpt

“I suppose we’re going to be seeing Carly and Bran while we’re in Dallas next week.”

She had one week to get comfortable around Drew. One week to figure out if she could actually sell this cover to his family.

“It would seem odd if I didn’t pay them a visit. Bran knows I have a meeting with Taggart scheduled. We’ll be in Dallas for two days. Dinner with Bran and Carly and Mia and Case has already been planned.”

“Exactly. And you don’t want to raise a bunch of questions. So I was thinking it might be smarter for me to get my own hotel room. I can lay low and they don’t have to know I’m in town.” She’d sat up for a good portion of the night doing two things: thinking about how much she’d wanted to kiss Drew Lawless and then freaking out about it because that was a bad idea. Beware of billionaires with six-pack abs. It was her new mantra. Yes, she’d signed the contract last night, but that didn’t mean she couldn’t reason with her new . . . boss . . . partner . . . whatever he was.

“I told Bran you’re coming with me.”

This was exactly what she’d worried about. “You told him? I thought I would have more time. How am I going to explain this to Carly? I think she’ll wonder why one of her closest friends didn’t mention she was dating her future brother-in-law.”

“I’ve already explained it. We wanted to make sure it was real before we went public. It’s that simple. We met in Los Angeles. I contacted you. We went on a few dates and we’ve been talking a lot. You’ve come out to Austin because we’re contemplating moving in together. This is a trial run,” he said calmly, as though he hadn’t upended her entire life. “Also, I asked Bran not to mention it to Carly because you would rather tell her yourself. It was a safe bet Bran wouldn’t ask too many questions, but Carly will want to know everything. It’s why we need to get our stories straight.”

She focused on the words that messed with her life. “Moving in together? You told them we’re thinking of moving in together?”

“How else was I supposed to explain it when all your belongings arrive here?”

“What?” She winced because the words had come out in a screech. “I’m having your things packed up as we speak. They’ll be here in a few days.”

“Why the hell would you do that?” How was she going to get everything back to LA?

Drew relaxed again as though he’d already gone over this argument in his mind and knew he would win. “I wanted you to be comfortable. This is going to be a full-time job, and not a quick one. I suspect we’ll have to keep up our ruse for at least six months. Potentially a year. Also, that apartment you were living in was incredibly dangerous. Did you know it was recently condemned? The movers told me about it when they explained they were charging me extra for how fast they had to move. It’s scheduled to be demolished in two weeks.”

“What?” She stared at him. He expected her to live with him for six months to a year? Somewhere in the back of her head she’d been thinking a week or two tops, and then she’d go back to LA and work from there. Her apartment building was shitty and she was fairly certain someone cooked meth in part of it, but it was all she could afford. And it was solidly built. There had been no hint that anyone was planning on building in her part of LA. Gentrification had not reared its upscale, hipster head yet, so that left her with one very manipulative bastard. “Tell me you did not buy my apartment building and schedule it for demolition in an attempt to leave me with nowhere to go.”

He managed to look almost angelic in the soft light of morning. “I have no idea what you’re talking about.”
