It’s past noon, and I’ve spent a productive morning in my office getting all my proverbial ducks in order. Marge is making calls to all our clients to let them know about Eric’s departure and to tell them I’ll be calling to update them later in the week. Abby is taking point on hiring one new person who can walk the line between tech and client relations, and I’m doing everything else.

So far, there’ve been no crises today, and I’m feeling about eight thousand percent better than I was yesterday. It was still hard leaving the girls this morning, but I went in a bit later, and so we had breakfast and some playtime together.

Glad to hear it. Sending a car for you at five.

I frown, then tap out a reply.

I have Coop here. I drove my Mini Cooper into the office this morning and he’s tucked away in the small parking garage that serves my building.

He can stay in the garage overnight. I want you relaxed. We have plans tonight.

I laugh, delighted.

Are you handling me, Mr. Stark?

His reply is swift: Absolutely.

Love you. (Whispers: but I want to see my babies)

I can almost picture him smiling when he sends the next reply.

No need to whisper. I want to see them, too. Then I want to see you. Alone.

I sigh and realize that I’m smiling, the stress of the last twenty-four hours fading to zero. Maybe Jamie and Abby are right. Maybe I have got this.

Sounds good to me, I reply.

Sexy Stranger would make one fantastic romantic comedy movie (of the X Rated variety;)

A small town guy lives an undistracted and routine life running his family business, still looking for the right woman to settle down with because he was burned before by a woman looking for more than his little, quiet town could offer.

A big city girl, running from a high society life that was chosen for her, breaks down in the middle of nowhere – a place she clearly doesn’t belong and finds herself face to face with a “rude redneck” – a man who she’s not quite sure if she wants to slap or rip his clothes off due to his arrogant nature and downright rude preconceptions about the kind of girl she is.

The plot line of Kendall Ryan’s latest would make for one hell of a country song because the disdain and hostility Luke Wilder and Charlotte Fremont feel for on another upon their initial meeting is palpable, but then again, so is the sexual tension that sizzles around them and doesn’t subside until they give into what they’re feeling and soak up the days they have together until Charlotte goes back to her world and Luke stays planted in his own.

I love stories that smash misconceptions of certain stereotypes; Luke nor Charlotte hide their contemptuous feelings for one another based on one interaction – a confrontation that spins into Luke living up to his country redneck label and Charlotte easily fitting into the bratty rich girl façade who has no business in a place that doesn’t have a Starbucks and only has one stoplight.

Kendall Ryan sets up both her hero and heroine to typecast the other one and when they learn the truth – when they witness the reality of who one another actually is, they both realize that they may come from different worlds but they sure as heck are nothing like they perceived each other to be.

Shady Grove, Texas, might be in the middle of nowhere and it might not be as fast-paced or in your face as Charlotte’s New York City life was, but in this country town, she evolves into the person she wants to be…she finds her true self – the one who doesn’t cater to her parents simply because she wants to have their approval and the one who revels in her witty remarks and sassy attitude because they only make her more real and everything that Luke Wilder can’t get enough off, even if there’s an expiration date on their time together.

Sexy Stranger is a story about finding what one needs in the most unusual places; it’s about not trying to fit into a cookie cutter life because there’s nothing unique or worthwhile in that kind of existence. It’s about defying misconceptions about the type of person someone is and proving unequivocally that she is so much more than anyone ever thought she was. It’s about finding the simple pleasures in life and surrounding oneself with people who see who a person truly is or at least the work-in-progress that’s occurring.

For ten years, Ford Landry and Ellie Pagan have compared every person they’ve dated to each other, always finding a flaw that doesn’t fit the standard of their “perfect” significant other and further solidifying for Ford that he let the best thing that has ever happened to him slip away due to his doubts and fears about who he was supposed to be in order to bring pride to the Landry name.

But now that he has a second chance to make her his, Ford will stop at nothing to prove to Ellie that he’ll never walk away from her again and if she finds a way to allow him back into her heart, he swears that he’ll weather the storms and fight to give her the rainbows and the love that she deserves.

Since the beginning of the Landry Family series, Ford’s story is the one I most wanted; he seemed so different than his siblings, stepping away from the family business, fighting for his country, and then finding his own path once her returned home, and while his family still means everything to him, he also feels like he’s his own person and his life is exactly how he wants it…except for maybe having more than a one or two night stand with a woman and then moving on because when he really looks at his personal life, he realizes that he never truly moved on from his first love and now that he has a chance to make amends and perhaps even claim Ellie once again, he sure as heck isn’t going to allow her to put up a wall and push him away when he’s so close to having everything he’s always wanted.

Adriana Locke does a great job of explaining and illustrating Ellie’s fears when it comes to allowing Ford back into her life, her bed, and her heart. She has every right to be insecure and fearful when it comes to starting over with Ford, so even though it’s a bit frustrating to see how Ellie handles things with Ford, at times, I can’t blame her hesitancy. She was destroyed the first time Ford walked away from her, and even though she’s no longer that naïve girl, she knows that he’s still her weakness and she just can’t be completely certain that Ford won’t break her heart all over again.

But as much as I can sympathize with Ellie, Locke also shows Ford’s determination and commitment in rectifying the past and building a future with the only girl he’s ever loved. He never falters in his quest, even when Ellie slows things down or puts space between them. Ford consistently proves that he won’t give her up or ever leave her again and due to the honorable man that Ford is, readers can’t help but swoon as well as pant over the sweet and dirty words he uses to show Ellie his love.

Swear is a sweet and steamy second chance romance story; one that teaches great life lessons as well as the true value and meaning of a pinky swear, and as Locke works with Ford and Ellie in order for them to build a future together, readers can’t help but get swept away in the plot line, rooting for Ford from the very beginning and praying that Ellie gives him the chance he so desperately wants and earns as the story progresses.

Fallon is definitely the backbone of the family. She holds the family together and puts her whole heart into everything that comes to her kids and her husband. She’s the perfect partner for Lucas and their connection is what allows them to conquer any hurdle, whether it be their kids growing up, the time spent apart due to the hockey season, or the craziness that always follows them around due to their brood of kids – there’s nothing the Brooks family can’t do as long as they stand by each other, cheering one another on and reveling in the fact that their lives couldn’t be any more imperfectly perfect than they are.
