Know-it-all. Bragger. Show-off. Boaster.

Regardless of the term one would use, they definitely all describe Drew Jagger’s personality. But let me tell you…he has EVERY right to brag and revel in his greatness because he gets things DONE!

Drew knows how to use his words, his body, and his own brand of manipulation to get what he wants in the courtroom, the bedroom, or anywhere else there’s an argument to win…a client’s future ex-wife to destroy…or a certain relationship therapist to seduce.

If Drew allows a person close enough, which is highly unlikely due to the damage is ex caused him, that person will definitely still see glimpses of Drew’s egotistical attitude and behavior, but she’ll also see a man with trust issues…a man who does his job in order to stick it to those women who’ve screwed their husbands in the worst possible ways…she’ll see a man who works in an ugly business because that’s how he prevents himself from getting screwed again…that’s how he vanquishes his fears of relationships because the only kind of relationships he sees are ones that never stood a chance – ones that were over before they truly even started because that’s how dishonest and unloving people are in today’s world, and as long as he remembers that, he’ll never put himself in a position to be destroyed again.

But when Drew finds Emerie Rose in his office space ready to come to blows with him, his walls lower and his pain in the ass, tough exterior softens, albeit only slowly at first, but it’s easy to see that Emerie’s a game changer for him, even if she believes the opposite of everything he does about relationship. Emerie’s a psychologist who believes that marriages can endure as long as the two people involved want them to and willingly works for that to happen.

Emerie’s the definition of a fiery redhead and Drew finds her sexy as hell, especially when he pisses her off. There’s an undeniable connection between them but one that Drew wants to explore in only the sexual sense because he has up too many walls for it to be anything more. Emerie doesn’t come from Drew’s Park Avenue world, but her sass and kind heart make Drew want to help her and makes him give her something of himself that he hasn’t given to another person in 5 years, which makes Drew and Emerie so much more than simply sex, but we won’t go telling the egomaniac that little fact;)

Egomaniac is Vi Keeland at her finest. Her characterization of Drew definitely correlates to a man of his stature and profession. Drew is the quintessential arrogant alpha male who does everything he can to protect his heart even if it means fighting dirty. But Drew’s never met a woman like Emerie and her southern background and optimistic outlook is just what Drew needs to realize that his clients’ mess of relationships doesn’t have to be his this time around, but Emerie can only do so much to prove that to him; Drew needs to do some legwork himself and that will only happen if his head gets out of the way of his heart.

I adored Egomaniac, and Emerie is one of my top heroines of all-time. Everything about this story worked for me, and I can’t wait to see who Vi Keeland brings readers next!

She stared back at me with big chocolate eyes.

Molten.

Her gaze washed over me like lava.

Burning up everything in its path.

“You are so beautiful,” she said, voice hoarse.

“Peaches,” I whispered as a warning. Wasn’t sure I trusted myself with her right then.

“You are. Did you know…did you know the first time I saw you…when you were lying covered in blood and you opened your eyes and looked at me, that I saw it? Something so beautiful and raw and powerful. Even when you’d been broken. The way you looked at me shook me straight to my bones. And then tonight…what you did for me…I don’t…”

I roughed a hand through my thrashing hair, a perfect mirror to my thrashing heart. “Peaches.”

Another warning.

I didn’t deserve the way she was looking at me. Like I was good and right when I was no better than the bastard we’d left lying back there on the floor.

So slowly, she reached out, shaking fingers gentle as she traced them along the scar that marked that night beneath my eye.

A tremble took me whole.

I gripped her by the wrist and pressed the underside to my nose. “You’re killing me, darlin’.”

“And you’re saving me.”

A hard frown hit me. “It was you who did all the saving.”

“But that’s where I think you’re wrong, darlin’.” This time it was my turn to reach out and touch her. I cupped the side of her face, glancing between her and the road. “I think you’re so much braver than you’ve been giving yourself credit for. I see it there. Feel it every time I look at you. You’re incredible, Willow. Every time you walk through my door, I know it. So good that I know I shouldn’t be doing whatever the fuck it is I think I’m doin’ with you.”

She was still panting those breathy pants, and she leaned into my touch.

“I…” she attempted before she looked down, averted her gaze. Even with her head downturned, there was no missing the blush creeping to her cheeks. She hesitated before she spoke. “When you kiss me…it doesn’t feel like pretending. It feels like the best thing I’ve ever felt.”

I swallowed hard, crossing a line. Pushing into the boundaries that should have been firmly set in place. “That’s because when I kiss you? It’s not pretend. When I tell you you’re gorgeous—the best thing I’ve ever seen? I mean it. And when I look at you…”

I touched the center of my chest, feeling ripped open wide. Exposed. Maybe telling her the truth when it wouldn’t do either of us any good was wrong. But there was no hiding when this girl was looking at me that way. “I feel it right here. We might be pretending, but you can’t fake this.”

Like she didn’t trust herself, she pressed farther against the door. “You make me want things…things I know I shouldn’t want.”

“I want…” She tucked her bottom lip between her teeth, nervous or unsure whether to give me the truth.

Her ankle turns, and Kass starts to fall. One swift move, and I scoop her up, into my arms.

“Oh!” she cries, gripping my biceps.

Her soft body is pressed against me, and her face is right at my chin. Her breath comes in quick pants, causing her breasts to rise and fall just beneath the thin material of her dress. With her sweater pushed back, I can see she’s not wearing a bra, and all the lust I’ve been fighting shoots straight to my cock.

I know she feels it. Her lids lower, and her eyes are trained on my mouth. Her lips part, and I can just see the tips of her white teeth when she speaks, low and breathless. “Thank you.”

When the Royals Saga reached the end of Smith and Belle’s storyline in Capture Me, I felt good about where all of my favorite couples had reached in their relationships, solidifying the bonds the characters had formed and proving that despite the odds, Alexander and Clara, Smith and Belle, and Edward and David were meant to be together and would fight for their individual and collective happiness.

Life can absolutely feel like a tennis match sometimes; with its ups and downs, risky plays, and must win moments, even the best tennis players can be schooled because the ultimate ace doesn’t happen on the court and regardless of how much practice and skill one may have, there are times when the impossible happens and s/he ends up losing so much more than just one match.

In the first part of Break Point, Jules Smith learns the true definition of a double fault when she puts her trust, first, in her new teammates at her first college and then in her new tennis coach at her new school. The first incident drastically changed her life and how she interacted with others while her secret relationship with Coach King and his desertion of her unilaterally altered every aspect of her world and prompted her to make difficult decisions without thinking of the repercussions for not only herself but for all those involved.

While there is a forbidden aspect of Break Point due to Jules and Drew’s initial relationship, that is not the focus of their story. The story line focuses more on people’s choices and the impact of those decisions even seven years later. Both Jules and Drew handled their feelings for one another and the fallout of their clandestine affair without truly thinking of the impact of those “for the best” actions on the other person. And because of this, when they reconnect 7 years later, they both have concerns and vulnerabilities to work through as well as a plethora of “old feelings, unanswered questions, and new curiosities,” which could ultimately allow them to move forward together or destroy any chance of healing from the past and reuniting in a forever kind of way.

Jules and Drew’s story is complex, and while I did feel like the first part of their story didn’t provide me with enough insights into what exactly happened to Jules at her first college or a clear sense of the true depth of their feelings for one another as they began their secret relationship, the second half of their story illustrates exactly what both of them lost after Drew left his coaching position and Jules behind for what he thought was her own good. It also shows the depth of Jules’ pain and the steps she’s taken to not allow her heart to be broken again. The decisions that Jules made may be questionable, but she never did anything to be malicious; in a sense, she made them in order to survive…in order to make a future for herself, even if it is one that doesn’t heal her heart or surround her with a multitude of friends and family…she has done the best she could for the circumstances she was given, and no one can fault her for her response.

Drew is quite the tenacious alpha male as he works to reclaim the woman he loves, and while Jules made him work for every inch, more out of fear than anything else, Drew proved that he could trust her with her heart…he proved that giving him some of the control she holds on to so tightly wouldn’t hurt her but fill a void that she’s had ever since he left.

Break Point is a second chance love story that illustrates the fact that people can’t really help who they fall in love with, and while it may not be deemed appropriate in the eyes of society, the feelings still remain, and sometimes, doing the right thing is actually the wrong way to handle it because the devastation that it costs is sometimes irreparable.
