“Why’d you push me earlier?”

“It’s not important.”

But it was. She felt it in her chest. It was so important, and she needed him to say it again. She was salivating for the chance. She wanted to reassure him, and this time she felt it in her heart. She knew she wasn’t going anywhere. She wanted him to see it in her eyes, that she meant every single word.

She whispered now, “Ask me. Ask me again.”

His eyes met hers, narrowing slightly. He was looking into her, reading her.

She was letting him. There was no wall, no hesitation this time. She wanted him to know her, not just her body. All of her. A second passed. He was still searching in her. Another second. More. He waited a full thirty before asking, his voice so soft and tender, “What would you do if you found out another person cared about you? If you mattered to one more person?”

“Nothing.” She was trying to convey her feelings through her eyes. She wanted him to know so badly. “I wouldn’t run. I wouldn’t walk. I wouldn’t hide. I’d do nothing except stand and embrace it.”

His eyes darkened, an emotion passed in them, one that had her heart beating so fast again. “Yeah?” He let go of her hand, but touched the side of her face. He held her in the palm of his hand, and his thumb rubbed over her cheek. It was like he was smoothing away any lingering worries she might have. “What if I was that person?”

She leaned toward him, her eyes going from his lips back to his gaze. Both were pulling her in, making her yearn for more. “Then I’d say, I feel the same.” Her breath held in her throat. They were talking in code, but it was out now. She was telling him how she felt, and a second later, his lips were on hers.

This. She turned, wound her arms around his neck. This was everything.

BLOG TOUR: REVIEW, EXCERPT, AND GIVEAWAY: Hail Mary by Nicola Rendell

goodreads-badge.png
AP new - synopsis.jpg
At a boxing gym in Chicago, Mary Monahan accidentally knocks out the most handsome man she’s ever met. After she wakes him up with a few slaps and some smelling salts, the very first thing he does is ask her out for ribs and beer. His name is Jimmy. He looks like a Gillette model. And he’s just too hunky to resist.
Jimmy “The Falcon” Falconi is mystified that Mary has absolutely no idea who he is. Mystified and refreshed. He is, after all, not your everyday NFL quarterback. He shops at Costco, has a soft spot for Pinterest, and is in the midst of an epic losing streak.
Jimmy falls for Mary fast and hard, the way he does everything—balls out and like it’s fourth and long. And he realizes he’s finally met his match. That stamina he’s so proud of? Doesn’t stand a chance against her Kegels.
But what they don’t know is she’s also his new physical therapist, recently hired by the Bears to work on his rotator cuff…and groin injury. If she can’t help him, he’ll be traded faster than they can say “offensive penetration.”
In spite of the thousands of internet memes featuring Jimmy’s face with captions like: “HEY GIRL, WANT TO TOUCH MY BALLS?” Mary finds herself falling for him and his unrelenting desire to make her his.
Until a toddler shows up at Jimmy’s door.
And throws their lives into total chaos.

With her hand in mine, I hail a cab on Fullerton. She isn’t saying much, and I like that. I like talking to her, getting dirty, watching her lose her words. Because I’ll tell you what, I’m planning on her losing a shitload more than that before I’m done with her. Losing everything to me. That’s the fucking plan.

The cabbie pulls off to the other side of the road a little way up from us and puts on his hazards to tell us he’s waiting. As we head for the crosswalk, I kick aside a drift from one of the plows, but it’s unsteady footing, icy and slick. As she begins to slip, her grip on my hand tightens.

“That’s enough of that,” I tell her, and scoop her up into my arms, newlywed-style.

She squeals and hangs on tight. She fits fucking perfectly in my arms, and I love the way she feels tight against me. Her fingers slip past my collar, and her fingernails dig gently into the back of my neck. “I can walk,” she says, mostly to my mouth. Then she raises her eyes. “It was just slippery.”

I don’t answer right away. I don’t want to come on too strong. I don’t want to scare her, but I don’t want there to be any fucking mistake at all about what I want or how I plan to get it. “I know you can. I’m sure you can do pretty much everything.”

Her eyes glisten, and I hoist her up a little higher in my arms. The walk signal starts flashing its hand as we get to the other curb. “I’m no shrinking violet.”

“Good. Because I’m going to need you to come strong for me tonight.”

Her body reacts before her face does, her back arching under my hand, that bend so delicate under my palm.

“Multiple times. Loudly.”

She presses her face to my chest and moans out what sounds like, “Who are you?”

“And you’re going to tell me what you like and how you like it. We’re not going to fuck around. Communication, pussycat. That’s the key.”

There go her words again. I’m getting to know that glaze in her eye, disoriented with desire. “And what about you?”

Now we’re even with the cab, but I’ve still got some things she needs to know. “I don’t come until you do. At least twice.”

She’s got no answer for that, so I bring her chin up toward me, stretching her pretty neck out with my thumb on her jaw. “You hear me?”

She nods. She breathes. She blinks.

“That’s how it’s going to go.”

“I think I can handle that.”

I laugh, sending a plume of steam out of my nose. This girl has no idea how badly I want her. How badly I need her. How fucking hard I am already to get inside her. “Yeah? You think so? You think you can handle me?”

Her eyes widen a little. “I think so,” she whispers.

Then I let her slip from my arms, such a fucking shame, but I’m not about to let her open her own door. As she gets into the cab—on the street side, the safe side—I say into her ear, “We’ll just see about that.”

Review

In Hail Mary, Nicola Rendell does a great job of creating a hero and heroine who are passionate about life and their careers, and while they meet under unusual circumstances, the sucker punch to the heart they feel just by being in one another’s presence isn’t something they want to let go of, even if Mary makes Jimmy work for it!

At face value, Mary Monahan and Jimmy Falconi don’t seem like a good match. Mary’s quiet and easy going demeanor doesn’t really mesh with Jimmy’s stardom and action packed life, but there’s something about each other that they want to explore, so despite Mary’s misgivings and a bit of a conflict of interest, they pursue one another and boy do their bodies and minds connect!

Despite some missteps along the way, Mary and Jimmy’s issues stem from those around them not from each other, and while it should be easy to block out the exterior noise and focus on what they have together, Jimmy’s profession and his deadbeat twin make that an arduous task and prompt actions being taken that just might be game changers in the worst possible ways.

Hail Mary is a witty, steamy, and somewhat angsty sports romance story that’s perfect for any sports enthusiast. Football is used as the backdrop to the story and the close-up moments of the sport blend nicely with what’s happening off the field between Mary and Jimmy. There definitely is an insta-love aspect of the hero and heroine’s relationship, but Rendell illustrates that even though they might be in sync when it comes to passion and sexual desires, there are still obstacles to maneuver around and Jimmy might just need to throw the ole hail mary when he feels likes things are out of his control, both on and off the field.

RELEASE LAUNCH: REVIEW AND PLAYLIST: Rusty Nail by Lani Lynn Vale

He knows that pain makes you stronger…

Wolf isn’t always a good person, and he doesn’t hesitate to say what’s on his mind.

He is who he is, and he doesn’t offer apologies.

He isn’t out to impress anyone, and he doesn’t make excuses for his actions.

She knows that fear makes you braver…

Raven has made some bad decisions, and she’d give anything to go back in time and choose a different path.

The reality is that she can’t go back, and the day Wolf walks into her life, she finally realizes that maybe she doesn’t want to.

Wolf is everything she’s ever wanted, and the exact opposite of what she needs.

They both know heartbreak makes you wiser…

Wolf knows that this is not a good idea. There are a million reasons—all of them bad—telling him exactly why he should stay away.

But when Raven’s nightmares burst out of her dreams and into her reality, he doesn’t have a choice anymore.

He has to protect her, while somehow protecting his battered heart.

d6b45-review

I’ve been curious about Wolfgang “Wolf” Amsel ever since Lani Lynn Vale started providing snippets of his story amidst all of her other alpha males’ drama and instigations. Wolf’s history is not an easy one, and he wears both the physical and emotional scars of one fateful day that upended his life, leaving him damaged, rough around the edges, and suspicious of everyone and everything, with good reason.

Raven is a wounded soul, broken and crushed in ways that most people would have not gotten back up from, but regardless of how many times life knocks Raven on her ass, she works to find her footing again and continues on that path even when she loses pieces of herself along the way…even when no one steps up for her, and she feels like she’s not worth the work. Raven is no one’s charity case, so even though her feelings for Wolf are strong, and she yearns to call her his own, unless she’s treated as Wolf’s equal and needs her as much as she needs him, she refuses to give him all of her.

Wolf and Raven’s journey to happiness is one paved with a number of obstacles, those mostly coming from one another’s scars as well as forces out of their control that can do more damage than they’ve already experienced.

This is the story that Lani Lynn Vale gives her readers in Rusty Nail, and it’s one filled with emotion, drama, and inner turmoil that pushes both Wolf and Raven physically, emotionally, and mentally. Wolf saved Raven from a deplorable, gut-wrenching situation, and she would love to return the favor and help put the light back in his eyes, but in order to do that, she has to truly understand what Wolf wants and needs from her and Wolf has to be willing to give Raven everything in return.

Read an Excerpt from Wherever You Will Go

I head to the door, still clutching at a piece of peppermint chocolate and trying to dissolve the large piece in my mouth. Swinging open the door I yell, “What the hell, bitch?”

Saxon’s eyes are wide and he has an amused grin on his face. “Well, good morning to you too.”

My mouth is hanging open, and I know all the blood has rushed from my face. I’m shocked and not only because Saxon is here, but because he stands before me in dark wash jeans with a tight black t-shirt. It has been years since I’ve seen him in anything but a suit or tuxedo. He looks so much younger dressed casually. Less stressed and almost more… carefree.

Shaking those thoughts, I meet his eyes. “I thought you were Rach. What do you want?” My words come out more harshly than I intended, and Saxon’s smile turns to a frown, his eyes losing their sparkle.

My stomach twists and there’s something about him frowning which turns my gut. I don’t like it. “I’m sorry, I didn’t mean it like that. I’m just surprised to see you. What’s up?” I ask in a much more friendly tone.

He looks up at me, nervousness shining in those bright green eyes. “I wanted to see if I could take you out today?” The confident, cocky Saxon is gone, and I would’ve never believed this insecure one existed underneath.

He wants to take me on a date? Hell no.

“Bugger, I’m actually just on my way out,” I say with fake disappointment.

Saxon raises his eyebrows at me, and the cocky bastard is back. “Really?” he says as he looks me up and down. I follow his eyes down to my outfit.

Sometimes even I can’t believe how stupid I am. I roll my eyes and cross my arms over my chest in defiance, as I also remember not only am I in my flannel pyjamas but I don’t have a bra on. He smiles a cocky smile while looking at my chest, clearly letting me know he caught that also.

Read an Excerpt from Whatever You Do

“So,” I start, “two hundred online dates; that’s a lot. Did you date much before you went online?”

Before Carl answers, he reaches over and takes a fry off my plate. “Yeah, two hundred. I have been online for a few years now. What about you?”

I stare, my eyes wide as I watch him eat the stolen fry. “You are my first online date, actually.”

Carl leans over again and this time grabs two fries off my plate. What. The. Fuck?

“Wow, a newbie. How are you finding it?” he says, as he shoves my fries into his mouth.

I know what’s going to come next so I quickly answer him. “Yeah, great,” I say, before I pick up three fries and shove them into my mouth, followed quickly by another two fries. The heat of the fresh fries burns my mouth, but I don’t even care.

He leans over and once again grabs two fries. It takes everything in me not to stab his fingers with my fork.

There’s no way he’s eating all my dinner. I begin shovelling fries in my mouth. I stab furiously with my fork, picking up as many fries as I can before trying to fit them all in at once.

Carl leans over again and mustn’t see the glare I give him as he picks up a piece of my chicken and pops it between his lips. “Mmm,” he mumbles as he eats my chicken. My freaking chicken.

Is this guy for real? I am not one of those girls who doesn’t like to eat. I don’t go out with guys to only order a salad and nibble at it for three hours. I don’t share food, dammit.

The meal continues like this, except I can’t shovel in as much food as Carl can, so before I know it, Carl has polished off my parmigiana as well as his own steak. How can such a skinny guy eat so much damn food?

I have no idea what we even talked about the whole time as I was too consumed in trying to protect my dinner. Thankfully, Carl doesn’t eat salad, so he did leave that right alone. Awesome.

I sense Tate approach as a shadow falls over the table and his cologne fills the air, but I’m too busy pouting to look up at him and enjoy the sight.

“How were the meals?” he asks.

“Fantastic. Very authentic,” Carl answers.

I don’t bother answering as, let’s face it, I barely got a taste.

“Would you like to order some dessert? We have homemade Italian pastries.”

“Oh God, I couldn’t possibly fit another thing,” Carl says as he rubs his flat belly. Fucker.

Gritting my teeth, I try to fight the urge to jump over the table and strangle him.

“Well, maybe Harper would like something,” Tate says to Carl.

“No thanks,” I say, my voice cold and disinterested. What’s the point? He’ll probably eat it anyway. I just want this nose-dive of a date to be over.

He’s the guy no one likes…

Despite winning two national championships, JR “Ace” Anderson was sent packing from his old school after losing the trust of his coach. Review

JR “Ace” Anderson might be the leader on the field as the quarterback for the Southern U Renegades, but in life, Bryant Johnson is one hell of a defender, and she ends up sacking Ace and turning his world upside down from the very start of the story.

There are two things that Bryant knows extremely well: football and bad boys, and while she’s forced to know the game because her father’s the head coach for the Renegades, her other expertise centers around a catch and release program that she designed in order to turn douchey guys into stellar boyfriends and make-up for a loss she feels Every. Single. Day.

But the game between Bryant and Ace goes way beyond her project mentality when Bryant finds herself taking a more hands-on approach with Ace, leaving her to wonder who’s schooling whom and what’s going to happen to her heart when JR aces his studies?

Heading into Downed, I really didn’t know what to expect from Ace. He seemed to have a mile long chip on his shoulder in Jockblocked, and the way he handled things with Lucy left me feeling like there was no way he would be able to redeem himself in the eyes of his best friend or readers of the series. And, even though he’s still quite the asshole in Downed, with Bryant’s help and his need to prove himself, both on and off the field, Ace finds a way to set things right, or as right as he can make them, with his new team, his new coach, his best friend, and a few of his old teammates, but most important, with himself.

One thing I appreciate about how Jen Frederick wrote Ace’s character is the fact that he owns his mistakes; he understands why he’s the outcast and why his new teammates have pretty much frozen him out. Don’t get me wrong, it hurts Ace greatly, and he’s constantly torturing himself with thoughts of never being accepted, but he also acknowledges that there’s not much he can do about his current situation if he doesn’t give a little…if he doesn’t show his team, Bryant, and himself that he knows what it means to be part of a team and he sure as hell knows how to lead his team to victory. And what Ace also learns along the way is that he might just be willing to be downed by Bryant, even if it means planning routes to traverse a field he’s never played – an actual relationship.

Bryant is quite the dynamic heroine; some readers may find her over-the-top and a bit too sweet for the bad boys she reforms, but Bryant is tenacious as well as extremely headstrong, so when she sets out to do something, especially when it deals with something that honors her sister, she refuses to back down, which is interesting since that’s the first thing she wants to do with Ace because of her feelings for him.

Both Ace and Bryant become works-in-progress as the story continues, and I found that as much as Bryant was teaching Ace about life, commitment, and love, he teaches her just as much about how to truly live even with the fear she feels about getting hurt.

Downed is the perfect story for who Ace and Bryant were and for what they become with each other’s assistance. It’s humorous, sexy, sassy, as well as sweet and it’s a great addition to Jen Frederick’s Girdiron series.

COVER REVEAL AND PRE-ORDER: The Room Mate by Kendall Ryan

New York Times Bestselling Author Kendall Ryan brings us a brand new standalone on January 24, 2017 – THE ROOM MATE!

When someone is off-limits, it’s hard to resit.

room-mate_amazon

room-mate_amazonThe last time I saw my best friend’s younger brother, he was a geek wearing braces. But when Cannon shows up to crash in my spare room, I get a swift reality check.

Now twenty-four, he’s broad shouldered and masculine, and so sinfully sexy, I want to climb him like the jungle gyms we used to enjoy. At six-foot-something with lean muscles hiding under his T-shirt, a deep sexy voice, and full lips that pull into a smirk when he studies me, he’s pure temptation.

Fresh out of a messy breakup, he doesn’t want any entanglements. But I can resist, right?

I’m holding strong until the third night of our new arrangement when we get drunk and he confesses his biggest secret of all: he’s cursed when it comes to sex. Apparently he’s a god in bed, and women instantly fall in love with him.

I’m calling bullshit. In fact, I’m going to prove him wrong, and if I rack up a few much-needed orgasms in the process, all the better.

There’s no way I’m going to fall in love with Cannon. But once we start…I realize betting against him may have been the biggest mistake of my life.

REVIEW: Collecting The Pieces by L. A. Fiore

about-the-book-4

At fifteen I fell in love. His name was Jake Stephens and he took the abandoned, lonely girl I had been and made me whole. His love was a pure and unconditional love that made every day better than the last…a fairy tale of my very own.

But this story isn’t about Jake. It’s about Abel Madden; the man I meet after the fairy tale goes to hell. A cocky, arrogant man who says what he wants, does as he pleases, and makes no excuses for it. He irritates me—downright pisses me off at times—but he also brings me back to life.

My name is Sidney Ellis and this is my story of finding love twice—the first when I needed it most and the second when I never saw it coming.

Review

Collecting the pieces is both a beautiful and devastating metaphor for life because it insinuates that people have fragmented parts of themselves…ones that break off because situations occurred, shattering and scattering parts of who they were and possibly could be, and these life changing and life defining moments take those pieces and hold on to them, perhaps forever or just until these incomplete people find others to help them collect and rebuild the parts that were sliced and torn, creating a whole person again, even if s/he is bent and bruised.

Sidney Ellis is definitely someone who’s been torn and mended a number of times in her less than thirty years on earth, and each of those heartbreaking times, there’s been someone there to help glue her pieces back together, even though some times took longer than others. At 10, it was her foster brother, Connor. At 15, it was Jake Stephens, her first everything, and in her 20s, Abel Madden brought her back to life, even though they both fought their attraction, thinking that the other wasn’t what they needed. But what’s also been clear since the beginning is that Sidney may have needed other people to help her, but she also had to want to be whole again in order for it to work, so her will to live and to be happy also played a key role in her re-creation.

Sidney’s story is told in sections, illustrating those defining moments and important people who both built her up as well as fractured her heart, forcing her to endure gut wrenching pain as well as life altering happiness.

Section One: Then

Connor – he’s the first person who doesn’t make Sidney feel invisible and who makes her feel important and worthy.

Jake – he’s the boy who truly sees her and adores every part of her. He gives her a family, a home, and a happy life, shattering the lonely girl she was and collecting all of her broken pieces.

Section Two: Now

Abel – he’s the first man in three years to make her feel anything but sadness and her raw reaction to him both thrills and scares Sidney because Abel could shatter her in ways Jake never would, making it impossible to be whole again.

Sidney never imagined someone like Abel would fill all the places in her heart and soul that were empty, but it makes perfect sense to me because at this stage in her life, she needs someone different…someone to shake her up, challenge her, infuriate her, and make her wanton all at the same time.

I absolutely adored Jake and how much he loved Sidney and how everything was so easy when it came to their relationship. It was exactly what she needed when she was younger, and the beauty of their bond is something that Sidney carries with her. But now, the only way see can move forward and reclaim all of her broken pieces is to face that future with someone who is a fighter…whose dynamic personality draws Sidney in and their hunger for one another keeps them coming back to one another even when they both think the risk is too great.

Jake was the perfect boyfriend and husband, but Sidney’s a much different woman, having endured three years of pain and loneliness and oh man does Abel Gunner give her something different…something primal…something domineering, which is exactly what she needs. And despite Abel’s past and his need to keep women at an arm’s length – warming his bed but not his heart – Sidney finds a way to break down his walls and plant herself in his mind and his heart, and together, they bring each other back to life, putting their pieces together, little by little, making life worth living again.

I’ve always enjoyed L.A. Fiore’s stories because she creates realistic and complex characters who readers can relate to and champion for when the hero or heroine needs some encouragement or strength to persevere despite the dire circumstances or lack of faith.

Collecting the Pieces is an absolute gem of a read; it’s emotional, steamy, dramatic, and there’s also a bit of suspense in the mix, which means that it will captures readers’ hearts and minds, and if readers don’t walk away with a love for two very different men – Jake and Abel – then they’ve definitely missed out!
