Review
What I love most about Debra Anastasia’s storytelling is the ease in which she weaves together outrageous, hysterical, and heartfelt moments in a way that will have readers laughing out loud, shaking their heads, and swooning all at the same time.
Anastasia’s newest release, Booty Call, puts an interesting spin on contemporary society’s fixation with online dating, matchmaking, and speed dating. The title of the book is ironic in its own right because the Booty Camps that are touring America are about so much more than just a roll in the sack – it’s matching people with their “forever person” through what the matchmaker senses about their energies and whose energies match perfectly or at least as close to perfect as possible.
Wolf’s family’s matchmaking skills are legendary, but he’s the first male and the first person to turn it into a business. Wolf’s company is all about his customers’ happiness, and he prides himself in leaving his customers 110% satisfied, so when Hazel Lavender becomes the exception to the rule, Wolf finds himself in a difficult position because not only does Hazel want her money back, but his attraction to her goes against his no dating clients rule, placing them in a battle of wills where their stubbornness, awkwardness, and harshness will either have Wolf and Hazel punching one another or ripping each other’s clothes off.
I wasn’t quite sure what to expect from Booty Camp because let’s be honest, Anastasia always writes outside of the box and, at times, off the cuff, which makes her stories as well as her characters quite unique.
I adored Hazel from the very beginning. She’s an amazing person who gives so much of herself to her friends and her job as a special education teacher. Her ex-boyfriend deserved to be junk punched for his antics at the beginning of the story, because not only did it destroy Hazel’s self-confidence, but it also put her in a situation where she felt all men were like Scott, her ex, so those preconceived notions as well as Wolf’s grumpy, asshole antics made her feel unworthy and used all over again, which she definitely didn’t deserve.
Wolf is also quite the interesting character. He’s a matchmaker for everyone but himself, which seems to be his albatross for “exploiting his gifts.” He may know exactly who belongs with whom but when put in the position to be in a relationship with someone he can banter with and is definitely sexually compatible with, he never says the right thing and winds up with blue balls more than he would like.
Hazel and Wolf’s story is a witty, humorous as well as frustrating read because these two can’t seem to get out of their own way – they’re always putting their foot in their mouth because they’re both afraid of getting hurt and neither trust the opposite sex easily due to what happened to them in their pasts. Despite their scathing words, though, their chemistry is off the charts and if they’d actually stop hurting each other and try to understand one another by being honest, Hazel and Wolf just might be the most successful pairing for the Booty Camp Dating Service!

Wolf decided that he would watch Hazel get on the elevator since she was not making any attempt to come open the door for him. And then a couple came up behind him.
“There’s your ex! Holy crap, she looks wasted. How sad. Can you feel me up in front of her again? I love to watch her change colors. She goes all green.”
The man, who looked like a Ken doll come to life, pulled out a key card and tapped it on the device to open the door.
“Sure thing, baby. I love your mean streak.”
As they entered the building, Wolf watched as Hazel’s eyes found the loud couple.
They were fawning all over each other.
The defeat in Hazel’s posture made Wolf grab the door before it closed and locked him out.
Her eyes looked moist before she aimed her gaze toward the floor. The two idiots were play acting their parts to make her extra miserable.
Wolf planned on regretting later what he was going to do now. She might even have him arrested for it, but he pushed the Ken doll out of the way like he was dying of thirst and Hazel was a glass of water.
She was surprised when she looked up to see him stalking her. She looked over her shoulder, saw only the wall, and turned back to him.
Wolf snaked one arm around her waist and slid his other arm behind her neck. Her grabbed a fistful of her brown hair and used it to guide her mouth to his.
He kissed the living hell out of her.
At first she was tense and unmoving. But he refused to let it stop him. The elevator’s bell sounded as the doors opened.
When Ken doll and mean slut tried to step on to it, Wolf held out his arm out to block them.
He hefted Hazel, and she took the hint, hopping up and straddling him, koala style. He never stopped kissing her. Well, now she was kissing him while he used his arm to bar the others from the elevator.
The mean slut muttered, “That’s some damn kiss.”
Wolf turned and put Hazel against the wall. And he knew he was doing it for her, but everything she was doing in rebuttal was very welcome to his now rock-hard dick.
The doors closed behind them and the elevator started its assent before he forced himself to put her down.
She straightened his Booty Camp shirt and jacket on her body and covered her mouth with one hand. Then she slapped his chest with the other.
“What the hell was that?”
