“Sorry, I wasn’t looking where—”

I froze.

The sight of Chase standing there was almost enough to knock me over. I’d secretly hoped to see him, yet never thought I actually would. What are the chances? I did a double take, sure I was seeing things. But it was him all right, in the flesh. And what flesh it is. Standing there shirtless and wet—wearing nothing but a pair of low-slung swim trunks—he had me stuttering. Literally.

“Ch…Ch…Ch—” I couldn’t get the word out.

Of course, Chase didn’t miss a beat. He smirked and leaned in. “You do a cute train impression, Buttercup.”

He remembers me.

I shook my head, attempting to snap myself out of it. But it was no use. He was so tall, and I was so short, I had no choice but to stare at his body. Water trickled down his abs. I was mesmerized watching it speed up and slow down as it crossed the rippled lines of his six-pack. Damn.

I cleared my throat and finally spoke. “Chase.”

I was pretty freaking proud of myself for getting that much out. He had a towel slung around his neck and lifted it to dry off his dripping hair, revealing even more flesh. His pectoral muscles were carved and perfect. And—oh, my God…is that… Holy shit. It is. His nipples were cold and erect, and one of them was….was…pierced.

Review

Professional and personal frustrations abound in Hitched 2. Olivia and Noah are pushing forward even after Olivia jilted him at the altar, but both of them are still holding back information that could undo everything they’ve managed to move forward with, including the company they’re fighting for and a relationship that could end up being everything they never knew they wanted.

At the beginning of the text, Noah wants to explore the feelings they have for each other, and Olivia wants to keep things strictly plutonic, despite the Mr. and Mrs. titles they now have. She thinks she has to remain steadfast so that she can protect her heart and save her father’s company without suffering from the mandates that were forced upon her and Noah in order to do it.

It’s supposed to be a marriage of necessity; it’s supposed to be a marriage without feelings because Olivia can’t deal with the fallout emotions would cause, and she definitely doesn’t see this marriage as her happily ever after. But despite Olivia’s protests against being intimate or allowing her feelings to become part of the equation, Noah’s plan to woo her…to win her over and force her to let her guard down is working, but when Olivia finds out about an important clause in their fathers’ will, all of Noah’s hard work may be for naught because the only thing she sees is betrayal.

Noah Tate has definitely shown Olivia and readers the caring and passionate man he can be if only she would let him completely in and acknowledge that what they can have is so much more than a marriage that, on paper, is only a business transaction.

At the end of Hitched 2, Noah still has his work cut out for him, but Kendall Ryan has done a great job of illustrating his growth throughout the first two books, so I have faith that Noah will do what needs to be done to not only claim his bride but also keep Tate & Cane in their rightful hands.

Imperfect Love is the perfect title for Noah and Olivia’s story – they’re opposites in so many aspects of their lives, but those differences/imperfections allow them to mesh well at the office and in the bedroom.

Kendall Ryan always does a great job of fusing just the right amount of humor, steam, and drama into fast paced storylines. The banter between Noah and Olivia is charming and witty from the start and their chemistry sizzles on every page, allowing readers to see how good this imperfect couple could be if only they’d both get out of their own way!

Match Point combines two of my favorite romance subcategories – sports and M/M, so it was an easy decision to sign up for an ARC of the first book in Leigh Carman’s new Sports of the Seasons series. I haven’t read many stories that center around beach volleyball, so that alone intrigued me and then I was further captivated by the fact that the two heroes loathed each other and were as different as two people could be.

Going in, readers aren’t given much insight into why Finn Callahan is a brash asshole, but as Carman shows us who Finn really is beneath his cockiness and flippant attitude, a clearer picture is developed and every part of his harsh demeanor and angry personality makes sense and regardless of how much readers may loathe his words and actions, it’s clear that it’s how Finn copes with all that he has to deal with as a closeted gay man, which is why it was easy for me to see past my desire to throttle him.

Dexter Savage is Finn’s antithesis in every way. Dex is a people person who can easily charm anyone he comes into contact with, which is a great attribute to have as a professional beach volleyball player because it gets him noticed and gives him multiple ways to bank money, which is exactly the safety net he needs, because sponsors want him to be the face for their products.

Both Finn and Dex have major insecurities that they attempt to keep hidden from the public eye, but when Finn loses his way and Dex loses his teammate, all the feelings both men have held in rise to the surface and threaten to alter every aspect of their lives, especially how they perceived by their fans and family.

Finn and Dex’s story is definitely a roller coaster ride of emotions. There are seven years of hatred that both men have to deal with and try to sort out as their feelings for one another change from loathing to ones of attraction, lust, and eventually, deeper feelings that can either destroy or heal.

I really enjoyed Match Point; it took me a bit to warm up to Finn and realize the reasons behind his attitude, but once it became clear why he created the persona that he did, I felt sorry for him and hoped he would find a way to move on and live fully instead of merely survive and I knew that Dex was going to be the man to give him that chance.

“Get it. Get it. Hurry, hurry!”

I scramble for the ball while Coach yells out encouragements—or possibly reprimands. I can never be sure which. Either way I’m on top of my game today. I hustle to the net, get under the ball, and bump it with my wrists, arcing it high for Dex.

Dex waits for it to come down and lifts it using his fingertips. As the ball goes in the air, I take a running jump, curve my body so it doesn’t touch any part of the net, and smack the ball over our opponent’s head. It hits the sand.

“Yes,” Dex shouts and holds up a hand for me to high-five. Grinning, I reach out and slap my hand into his. Dex holds on to it for a brief moment. The contact is quick—less than a second—but the heat that sears through my palm leaves a lasting impression. It’s time to switch sides and it’s my turn to serve. Dex puts his hands behind his back and gives me the signal to hit it left with no spin. I toss the ball up and hit it over the net.

Beautiful. Our opponent drops to his knees and makes the save, but he can’t get to his position quickly enough to reach the ball his partner perfectly sets for him. Dex cheers and pumps his fist in the air. I grin at his enthusiasm. Watching Dexter Savage have the time of his life is mesmerizing. It infuses me with an energy I’ve never felt before. I no longer see Dex as just another charming guy. He has me spellbound and hanging on his every word.

“Nice whiff, dickhead,” I call out when he misses a dig and comes up with a mouthful of sand.

I can’t have him thinking I like him or something.

Dex laughs and spits out the sand. “Shut up, Callahan.”

By the end of the day, we should be exhausted, but we’re riding high on winning the New Orleans Open, and on the thirty-minute ride back to the hotel on the river, we both get our second wind. Dex is literally bouncing around. He’s so full of energy, he’s making me dizzy.

“Come on, Finn. Let’s go out to celebrate. This is New Orleans, The Big Easy. There’s sin on every corner and a ton of awesome clubs here.”

I roll my eyes. “I doubt your idea of an awesome club is the same as mine, Savage.”

“What?” Dex squints at me. Then his eyes widen almost comically. “Oooooohhh. You don’t think I can handle a gay club?” A slow, snarky grin spreads across his handsome face, and my breath hitches.

Hello dimple.

I shake off my dirty thoughts to get back to the subject at hand. “No. I don’t. God. I can’t even think about you going into a gay club without laughing.”

Or getting hard and groaning.

“Hmph.” Dex levels his intense hazel eyes at me and quirks one eyebrow in challenge.

“No, Dex.”

“Yes, Finn,” he sings gleefully.

“No way.”

Dex chuckles and nods his head. “Oh yes. Pull out your sparkly top, baby, because we’re hitting the gay clubs tonight.”

“Fuck you, Savage. I don’t own a sparkly top.”

“Rainbow?”

“No.”

After five minutes of back and forth, I finally get Dex to let go of the idea of cruising gay clubs tonight, but only on the promise that I’ll take him to one when we get back to LA. We change and grab a cab, and Dex directs the driver to head toward Bourbon Street. “Really, Dex? Bourbon Street? Can’t we go somewhere a little less—”

“Whatever, Savage,” I mumble, turn to the window, and shift my hips so Dex can’t see my now fully hard cock.

Dex laughs and shoves my shoulder. Does he not know what he’s doing to me? I sneak a glance at my teammate. He’s looking out his own window, eyes glittering, smile as wide as a kid on Christmas morning.

Fighting Silence

Prologue

He didn’t budge, but my bare feet slipped, sending me toward the ground. Impossibly fast, Till’s hand snaked out and caught my arm. But I didn’t let his chivalrous gesture douse my fire. I had six months’ worth of words to say to the man I was irrevocably in love with.

“You took what you wanted. Then you left me.”

“Doodle,” he whispered.

I had been perilously close to the edge of insanity, and with one single word, he’d pushed me over.

I lost it completely.

Pounding my fists against his chest, I screamed at the top of my lungs, “It’s Eliza! My name is fucking Eliza! Not Doodle!” I spun to march away, but Till’s arms folded around me, lifting me off my feet to restrain me.

I was miniscule compared to him. There was no use in fighting, but I still kicked my legs, irrationally desperate to get away from him—but only because I knew I couldn’t keep him for forever.

“Stop it!” he growled into my ear. “I know your goddamned name—probably better than I know my own.”

While I was wrapped in Till’s strong arms, six months’ worth of tears fell from my eyes. He carried me to my apartment and guided me back through the window before following me inside. Then he stripped out of his blood-soaked shirt before dragging the blankets down and climbing into the bed behind me. I cried for a while in his arms, even turning to face him, only to cry against his chest. I had missed him so much.

I knew I’d loved Till years ago, but this was more. I needed him in order to function on a very basic level. Together, the world didn’t feel so big and overwhelming. He was my escape—the dream personified.

Till Page was comfortable.

His hands trailed up and down my back as he lulled me until the words fought their way out.

“I couldn’t stop going back,” I announced in a broken whisper. “I didn’t know where you had gone. And for the first time since I was thirteen, I was alone inside my own head. God. It was a scary place.” I tried to joke, but the tears streaming down my face told the truth.

“I’m sorry,” he responded on a sigh. “I couldn’t stay.”

“Why?” I whined, but I curled in closer against his chest, needing to feel him more than anything else.

“I don’t know, Doodle,” he lied.

God! It was such a fucking lie. He knew as well as I did. He just didn’t want to tell me.

“Where did you go?” I pressed further.

There was no way I ever could have expected his answer, but that wasn’t because it was a novel thought. No. His answer was surprising because it was the source of my anguish too.

“The real world.” He kissed my forehead.

Review 

Noelle Bond is back, but this time, Emma Hart gives readers Noelle’s “kickass softer side,” the part of her that she tries to keep hidden because she thinks it makes her weak, but I have to agree with Drake because he believes Noelle’s heart is what makes her a fantastic private investigator because her investment means that she’ll do what ever it takes to get things done and find the answers that both her client and she need in order to move forward and find some peace.

The case in Twirled Bond is not Noelle and Drake’s typical investigation. It still takes twists and turns throughout the storyline, but Noelle’s investment is much more emotional; she still follows her gut and uses her thirst for knowledge to gather the necessary information and put the clues together, but the suspense is a bit milder than the other books and the focus is more on Noelle’s attempts to juggle all aspects of her life and still keep a level head in order to help solve a very personal case.

Droelle is out in full force in Twirled Bond, and while Drake and Noelle still have their arguments and still butt heads when they work the same case, they definitely have reached a good place in their relationship. Not only do readers get to see how big Noelle’s heart is and how much she cares for her family and friends, even when she tries not to get in the middle of everything, we also get to witness the tender moments between Drake and Noelle. The times that they are simply there for each other, giving one another exactly what they need when things get too stressed and too overwhelming. Drake and Noelle may seem like an unlikely couple but they work because their personalities complement each other, balance one another out and they have what it takes to stay happy and in love because they are 100% invested in what they have.

A Holly Woods Files book isn’t complete without Nonna’s crazy antics to marry her grandchildren off in order for them to stop living in sin or Gio’s colorful greetings to everyone who enters Noelle’s parents’ house. There’s also a side story line that deals with Bek’s conflicted feelings, which is the perfect set-up for Book 6 – Burning Bond.

I absolutely love this series! The driving force of each book is Noelle and her need for answers when it comes to a case that just won’t seem to be solved. Surrounding that plot line is a great look into relationships – both familial and friendships. The Bond family absolutely has each other’s back, even though they seem to fight more than anything else, and the bonds that Noelle has formed with the people who work for her as well as Drake continue to pull me in, in each book because besides solving the case, I’m always eager to see what drama and mystery Emma Hart delivers along the way.
