Slow and steady for an alpha male ex-Navy Seal is not an easy course to follow, especially when it comes to making amends for a death he feels responsible for by way of helping and protecting a widow and her baby. But that’s exactly the path Greyson is going to need to traverse if he wants anything lasting with Finley and Maple, and from his reaction to Finley and the way he lights up around Maple, he desperately wants to make them his family. But the only way that’s going to happen is if he follows Finley’s dictates and doesn’t push or go any faster than she’s willing to because one false move and Greyson won’t be just regretting his past actions, he’ll regret his current ones as well if it means Finley wants nothing to do with him.

Greyson and Finley have a tainted past filled with guilt and bitter feelings. Finley holds Greyson responsible for her husband’s death, and she wants nothing to do with his need to “fix” things for her and her daughter regardless of how much she’s struggling to stay afloat. Finley has had to make tough decisions, choices that may be frowned upon by others, but her responsibility is to her daughter and she’ll do what she has to do to keep Maple safe and cared for, but that doesn’t mean giving into a man who wants to right the wrongs that Finley believes can’t be nor does it mean she can let go of the hatred that fills her every time she looks at Greyson.

There’s definitely a learning curve for Greyson when it comes to dealing with Finley’s bitterness towards him. A push and pull relationship develops between them, causing both of them to wonder if forgiveness and healing can ever occur. But Greyson’s a fighter, and this is one battle that he refuses to lose, not only because he needs closure and a way to forgive himself for the events that occurred, but he wants to be the man, not only who protects and cares for Finley and Maple, but also who makes them a family and gives them the love they deserve.

Slow & Steady is a sweet and steamy read about second chances, moving on, and forgiveness. Kendall Ryan does a great job of building up the sexual tension between Greyson and Finley and slowly illustrating that life goes on and love can be found in someone who may not seem like the logical choice. Finley’s hot and cold demeanor may be frustrating to some readers, but it reinforces the dilemma that exists in her heart and her mind.

Can’t wait for Kendall Ryan to bring on her next alpha male!

It was nine o’clock on a Saturday night and I was totally out of my fucking element. A bottle of red wine tucked under one arm. A bouquet of wild flowers in the other. A condom tucked into my wallet, just in case. I was in foreign territory, and my entire body knew it – tense shoulders, my heart beating like a drum, and arousal barely contained beneath the surface.

Finley was standing at the doorway, watching me with a confused expression.

She looked gorgeous, makeup free, pink-painted toes, hair mussed and loose. Little cotton pajama shorts and a tank top that hugged her lush breasts.

“Maple’s not here.” She said the words, but she knew as well as I did I wasn’t here for Maple.

“I know that.” My voice was sure and confident.

“Then why are you … oh.” Finley shifted her weight, her eyes dropping from mine as she saw the wine and flowers. She could read it all, plain as day. I knew she could see my intentions, my uncertainty, and underneath it all, my desire. Maybe it was the desire to fix everything I’d broken, or maybe it was just my desire for her as a man desires a woman.

Normally when I felt that primal urge for sex, I headed to West’s bar. I’d pick out a woman for the night. Share a few drinks with her, a few laughs. Later, we’d head back to my place and fuck until dawn. And that was it. I’d be set for a few months.

This … with the courting and the nerves … it was nothing like my standard operating procedure.

I’d never felt so stripped bare and vulnerable. Never put myself out there so completely with a woman before. But then again, Finley was unlike any woman I’d ever met.

And she was still just standing there. “Can I come inside?” I asked, heart in my throat.

She didn’t say anything. But she opened the door wider.

With Nolan’s words ringing in my ears, I stepped over the threshold, sure that whatever happened tonight had the power to heal us both.

Who knew that Mr. Big Prick…Stuck-Up Suit…Mr. Arrogant Bastard was deep down an amazing man who only needed a woman willing to put him in his place while proving to him that she’d guard his heart.

I absolutely adored the dynamics of this book – Graham Morgan is quite the multifaceted man and wait until readers learn his middle name and the meaning behind some of the other names involved in this story.

While Graham Morgan can be an elitist asshole who’s closed off and controls everyone by being a dick, Soraya Venedetta – a Brooklyn wiseass – knows how to handle him and bring out the loyal, thoughtful man he truly is.

At first glance, Graham and Soraya are complete opposites, but Soraya’s feistiness and loose cannon actions overwhelm Graham in a way that shows no concern for how different they are or the risks that both of them take by feeling more than the sexual chemistry that’s between them. Both Graham and Soraya carry fairly deep scars from their pasts, but Soraya helps Graham to no longer be defined by those wounds; she brings out a side of him that’s laid dormant for quite some time, and she proves to him that being a closed off S.O.B. won’t mend what’s broken – the only thing that will is finding a girl who is just as loyal as he is.

Stuck-Up Suit has the perfect blend of sexy and sweet, wit and raunchiness, and angst and thoughtfulness. Soraya is one of my favorite heroines of all time. She’s quick witted, strong minded, and is comfortable in her own skin. She loves to verbally spar with Graham, keeping him on his toes and off kilter due to how much she makes him feel. She’s not afraid to call Graham out on his shit, but she also sees through his asshole demeanor and allows him to unearth his interior gentleman, which the people who work for him greatly appreciate. As much as I adored Graham and his many layers, Soraya made their story that much better because her personality was dynamic and there wasn’t anything fake about her.

Graham and Soraya’s story is a definite must read! Who would have thought that this amazing couple wouldn’t have met if not for Graham “slumming it” on a New York subway and a few racy pictures 😉 And, let’s not forget that Ask Ida had a lot to do with things as well!

Everyone’s going to love this “jerkier Mr. Big” and his hot-tempered Italian girl!

Outside of the restaurant, Graham’s black car was already curbside.  He must have had it waiting and called the driver when I went to the restroom.

“If you’re not going to come home with me, I insist on at least giving you a ride home to your place.”

“The subway is right around the corner.  I’m good.”

He shot me an annoyed glance.  “Give a little, Soraya.  It’s a ride home, not a ride on my cock.  And I think you know by now that I’m not a serial killer.”

“You’re so crass.”

He put his hand on the small of my back and steered me to the waiting open car door.  I didn’t put up a fight.  Graham was right, I was being stubborn while he had pretty much agreed to anything I demanded.  Something told me it was a rare occasion when the man was this flexible.  

When we arrived at my apartment, Graham walked me to the door.  

“When will I see you again?”

“Well, tomorrow is Saturday, so I suppose maybe Monday on the train.”

“Have dinner with me again tomorrow?”

“I have plans.”

His jaw flexed.  “With whom?”

We embarked into a lengthy stare off.  His gaze was hard.  When neither of us gave for a few minutes, he grumbled Christ under his breath, and before I realized what was happening, my back was against the door, and his mouth was on mine.

He kissed me as if he wanted to eat me alive.  Before releasing my mouth, he took my lower lip between his teeth and tugged.  Hard.  With his lips vibrating up against mine, he spoke.  “Don’t push me to my limit, Soraya.”

“Why?  What will happen?”

“I’ll push back.  And I’m trying not to do that with you.”

He was being honest, and I realized I should appreciate that.  “To my sister’s house.  It’s my niece’s birthday party.  That’s where I’m going tomorrow night.

He nodded.  “Thank you.”

It took every bit of my willpower to go inside and shut the door behind me.  I leaned my back against the door, unable to remember the last time I was so hot and bothered.  Maybe not ever.  His mouth was sinful; the thought of what he could do with that wicked tongue other places on my body kept me in a state of arousal that bordered on frenzied.  But it was more than that.  The way he was so dominating and controlling, yet exercised restraint to respect my wishes, was the sexiest thing I’d ever seen.  The man stimulated something that had been sleeping inside of me.  I needed a glass of wine and an orgasm.  Not necessarily in that order.  If I was going be firm on my stance that we get to know each other and not have sex, then taking things into my own hands was absolutely essential.

In my bedroom, I stripped out of my clothes.  I didn’t sleep naked every night, but tonight was definitely a bare evening.  As I slipped into bed, my cell rang.  

“Is phone sex on the table?”  Graham’s voice was a needy rasp.  Whatever cooling off my body had done since I left him on the other side of the door was instantly reheated.  His voice could definitely speed things up for me.  But…

“Sex is off the table.  That should probably include all types of sex.  Intercourse, oral, phone.”

He groaned.  “Oral.  God, I want to taste you.  And feel that metal tongue ring on my cock.  You have no idea how difficult it was to control myself tonight every time I caught a glimpse of that metal when you spoke.  It’s like you’re taunting me with every word.  What are you wearing, Soraya?”

That voice.  I needed to record him saying What are you wearing, Soraya?  So I could play it over and over again in a loop when I needed to satisfy my own needs.  “I’m actually not wearing anything.  I just got undressed and slipped into bed.”

“You sleep naked?”

“Sometimes.”

He actually growled.  “Touch yourself.”

“I plan to.  But I think I’m going to need both hands tonight.  So I’m going to hang up first.”

“How long do you plan on driving me crazy, Soraya?”

“Good night, Graham.”  I hung up without waiting for him to respond.  Even though my body physically ached for the man, I wasn’t ready to open that door with him just yet.  Although as I glided my hand down my body alone in my bed, the only thing I could think of was God, I wish it was his hand.

“Hey, Bella, right?” My pencil dropped out of my hand as I jumped at the voice next to our table. That was the second time today I caught myself gawking at Owen as he walked away. I studied his ass so much, I’d memorized the fraying denim on his back pockets. Blinking my leering eyes, I turned to a sort of familiar face.

“Yeah. I’m sorry but I don’t know your name.”

“Paul. I’m in Intro to Psychology with you.” Paul was cute in a non-mentionable type of way. With his dark features and average build and height, he easily blended into a crowd—and my psych class was over three hundred people. I spent most of that class feeling like an ant.

“Oh, right.” I smacked my forehead in faked recognition. “I’m sorry. That class is huge.”

Paul chuckled as he nodded. “It’s a good thing Professor Brightman is interesting. It would suck for him to look out and see three hundred people sleeping.” He let out a nervous laugh as he gazed at me.

I smiled back. “I guess you’re right. It’s hard to notice anything or anyone in those seats, though. I’m sure people take naps in that class anyway.”

“Well,” Paul sighed as his eyes dropped to the ground. “I noticed you. From pretty much the first day.”

“Oh,” I replied in a whisper. I was only here on a study date, even though I almost let myself pretend it was more. Paul seemed nice but, whether it was misplaced or not, my interest was in the hockey player waiting by the barista. Should I force myself to flirt with Paul? That wouldn’t be fair to either of us, but putting all my eggs in one unattainable basket wasn’t exactly healthy either.

Paul grabbed the back of the chair next to me and raised his eyebrows in question. “Can I sit? I’d love to get to know the girl behind the pretty face.”

“Seat’s taken.” A southern growl behind me made Paul’s face fall.

Owen placed my iced coffee and straw in front of me as he glared at Paul.

Paul let out a long sigh and nodded. “Sorry, Owen. I didn’t realize you were with Bella.”

“We’re on a study—”

“It’s cool, Paul. See you at practice later.” Owen sat in his chair and scooted it closer to me.

Paul nodded and gave me a sheepish smile before traipsing away.

Okay, what was that? “You know Paul?”

He nodded without looking up. “He’s one of the third line freshmen on the team. Doesn’t seem like a bad guy, I guess.” With a sour face I wasn’t used to seeing, he dug into his bag and pulled out a notebook. If I didn’t know better, I’d have said he was jealous. I sucked in my bottom lip to fight the twitch of a satisfied smile.

“I don’t really know him. He’s in my Intro to Psych class. Too many people in there to really know who anyone is.”

“You know what we should do?” Owen met my gaze as he leaned back in his chair.

I took a slurp of my coffee and squinted at Owen. “Enlighten me.”

Owen laughed as the front legs of his chair dropped to the floor and he leaned forward. “We should go out.”

With the straw still in my mouth, I froze. “Out?”

Owen nodded and gave me a sideways glance. “Yeah, out. You. Me. Without books or ledgers. We can celebrate how well we both did on the midterm—or how well you did and how I got by thanks to you.” Owen’s brow raised as he awaited my answer, but I didn’t know how to reply.

“I really don’t mind helping you. I get to study a little extra too, so it helps both of us.” Still ignoring his question, I opened my notes and skimmed to the midterm review questions. Owen inched closer to peer at my book, and I resented the jump in my pulse whenever he came near me. We’d been meeting twice a week for one hour at a time since the beginning of the semester, and each day I was more drawn to him than the one before. Rather than drive his fist through another man’s sternum to rip out his still beating heart, Alek rudely gave everyone but Sacha his back. He placed his hands on the car’s roof, boxing her in. She pressed back, as though she didn’t want to come into contact with him. Understandable. The last time she’d seen him, he’d had his hands full of a woman that wasn’t her.

He excluded Sheppard entirely by reverting to Russian once more. “I would appreciate a few minutes of your time. We could talk in the car. Vasily’s car,” he specified with a dismissive look at the Mercedes. “Or, if you prefer something more public, we can go into the restaurant. But whichever you choose, it’s time to send him on his way. I’ll make sure you get home.” Preferably their home.

A new tension began crackling in the time it took for her to raise her incredulous stare. The vulnerability surrounding her disappeared, and she made a small sound of amusement that wasn’t reflected in her expression. “Just like that?” She spoke quietly enough so only he would hear. “Your arrogance is shameful and sad if it allows you to believe there would be any point to us sitting down together, no matter the location.” Even in her disgust, he’d never seen a woman so fucking beautiful.

“I’ll admit you’d have to struggle to find something you’d want to say to me that didn’t involve me giving it to myself somewhere I can’t reach, but there is much I’d like to say to you.” He watched her throat work through a swallow and wanted to scrape his teeth over the silky skin. “I don’t know how the hell you came to be here tonight, but if you think I’m going to let this opportunity go without taking full advantage, then you’ve forgotten who I am.”

“No, Alekzander. And that would be the problem; I have forgotten nothing.”

Shut down.

He dropped his arms and retreated. He remembered that tone and knew he wouldn’t get her cooperation this night. Which meant he was going to have to demonstrate some patience after all by allowing her to leave. Maks must have Sheppard’s info by now. If not, Alek would get the plates on the Benz and they’d hack OnStar. Bingo. Sacha’s addy.

Despite the setback, peace was invading him. He had her. And that was everything.

He took another step back and even managed a small smile. “I understand,” he said, inclining his head as if in defeat. But before he could prove how gracious he planned on being about the whole thing by opening the car door for her, she made a fatal error.

Alek watched as if in slow motion Sacha move that stunning hourglass figure over and press what belonged to him into Sheppard’s side. After the slightest hesitation, her date encircled his arm around her shoulders and pulled her in.

Vasily and Maks came forward at the same time to wedge themselves between Alek and the blasphemous display they’d all just witnessed.

Disappointed that she would do such a thing in front of his people, Alek tsk’d quietly. “Why would you provoke me in such a way, Sacha?” he murmured, holding her eyes as he brought that target back up when he’d mentally been lowering it because deep down he knew Sheppard didn’t deserve his malice. Or, he hadn’t. Now, Alek squared that bull’s eye on the guy’s chest, and almost as if she sensed where his mind was, his naughty angel paled before he lost sight of her.

Maks lowered his head and caught his eye. “Time to get this train backed up,” he said in a tone laced with humor. He forced Alek back by bumping their chests together. “He’s untouchable,” he added in a murky tone more suited to what was happening here. “We have to regroup and figure some shit out. Then we’ll take care of this in a more private location.” He bumped again. “Don’t worry, brother. I got you covered.”

The storm tearing through him calmed at hearing that but the dark clouds of possession hovered, going nowhere. “Take my gun.”

Maks’s hand immediately snaked inside his jacket and came out with his nine millimeter. It was gone from sight before anyone had a chance to lock eyes on it. At the same time, Vasily was sending Sheppard back around the car and opening the door to help Sacha into the passenger seat with a quiet farewell that Alek didn’t hear her return.

“Justin Sheppard.”

He paused with one foot in the car, appearing remarkably unfazed by the undercurrent surrounding them.

“Take care of her. She’s precious in a way you couldn’t possibly understand.”

Finally, a reaction came when the blatant warning caused the muscle in Sheppard’s jaw to jump. “I understand that just fine, Tarasov. She’ll be fine. Goodnight, gentlemen.” He disappeared into the car, and the tinted windows shut out prying eyes as they drove away.

SEX! It all started with sex, between my parents. Personally I don’t like thinking about it, but whatever works for you is a-ok with me. No judgment. The sex happened in California and much of my life also occurred in that state until I moved from the land of nuts (almonds), wine, silicon… boobs, and heavy traffic to the southeast US. Like most writers I like to write, but let’s get back to sex. Eventually I married and gave birth to 2 small people-children (boy-6, girl-4 as of this writing).

By day I’m a biomedical researcher with focus on rare diseases. By night I’m a knitter, sewer, lino block carver, fabric printer, soap maker, and general crafter.
