Off limits. Stay away.

Don’t even think about it.

I know the rules.

I repeat them endlessly in my head.

But damn it, I can’t stay away.

Can’t stop thinking about it. About her.

She’s perfect. Beautiful. Exceptional in every way.

When in the world did she grow up?

No! I refuse to touch her. I won’t do it.

But I did. Just once.

And now. I want more. So much more.

Once I’ve set my mind to something, nobody can stop me.

Not even him. Screw him.

He’s just my best friend.

She’s just his little sister.

Rules are meant to be bent.

Broken. Hell, rewritten.

How bad can it be?

Smooth. Sexy. Irresistible.

Review

Where can an instant spark lead? Where can a relationship go that was supposed to be a rebound? A way to get past several months of betrayal and grief?

All Brynne Calloway knew upon meeting Fenton Abbott is that her body responded to him and her attraction to him was something she hadn’t felt for far too long. But there’s a mystery that surrounds Fenton and his business dealings, and when the man she starts to have feelings for doesn’t believe in love or happily ever after, how does she walk away from him unscathed, especially when he can’t seem to let go either and wants to see where their feelings lead them, which could actually end up destroying Brynne even more than she already has been.

Wherever It Leads was my first read by Adriana Locke, and I loved it. Even though I sensed the plot twist from early on, I still enjoyed reading how it all played out and witnessing how Brynne and Fenton reacted to the truth once it was revealed. I was absorbed in the story right from the start and with how Locke wrote Fenton’s character, I definitely understood his sex on a stick status, and I would have loved to hear his cashmere voice!

I love the idea of allowing a relationship to go in the direction that the couple’s hearts want it to go, refusing to let complications deter it and even through extenuating circumstances weigh heavily at times on Brynne and Fenton’s relationship, the rewards they both receive due to the risks they’re willing to take with each other definitely is worth it.

I so hope that Adriana Locke plans to tell Presley and Brynne’s brother’s story because that’s definitely a story line that would have a lot of meat to it.

A complimentary copy was provided in exchange for an honest review.

I pull out a cute emerald green dress. I brought a bright yellow bikini that would look really cute under it. Tossing my things around in the suitcase, I come up empty handed. Staring at my luggage, I realize I don’t see any of the five bikinis I brought.

Dashing into the closet, I look on the rack where I hung the red one up from yesterday.

Gone.

“That fucker.”

“Who?”

I spin around to see Fenton leaning against the doorframe. His blue tie is loose, his jacket missing, his hair a mussed-up, yummy mess.

“The thief,” I say, hands on my hips, trying to hide my desire to wrap my legs around his waist and kiss the hell out of him.

“We have a thief?” He watches me with complete sincerity, like he has no clue what I’m talking about.

“We do. And he seems to have a penchant for my bikinis.”

“Huh.”

“Yeah,” I say, traipsing over to him. “And nobody likes a thief.”

“You know what else nobody likes?” He shoves off the frame and wraps his hands around my waist, lacing his fingers together in the dip at the small of my back. “Girls that can’t listen.”

“I’ve never been a good listener,” I sigh dramatically. “I just make things happen … like when my bikinis get stolen, I just call the concierge and have them bring me another one up.  Something skimpy and very, very sexy.”

He smacks my ass, making me yelp.

“And I charged it to your room since you stole my others. Thief.

“Did you really have them bring you another one?” he chuckles, a sinful smirk on his face. He’s trying to figure out how to handle me, yet still get his way.

“No,” I give in, as his lips find the crook of my neck. “But I hadn’t ruled it out.”

“You’re going to make me crazy, you know that?”

He brushes his lips to mine and, in a split second, has me forgetting all about the bikinis. I’m focused solely on getting him out of his suit.

RELEASE BLITZ AND REVIEW: Last Call by Staci Hart

Last Call BannerLast Call

Goodreads

Synopsis

Once Rose Fisher makes a decision, that’s it. End of story.

Like when her ex, Patrick, dumped her out of the blue, then showed up with a super hot, tatted up sex kitten on his arm. Then it was over for good. The end. Poof. Dead to her. Except he was everywhere — down the hall, at the bar with their friends, worming his way into her dreams.

But with their friends paired off, they’re left alone more and more. Rose is determined to keep him friendzoned — doesn’t matter that he stares at her with a smolder that drops all panties in a ten foot radius. She’s over him, and she’ll prove it by getting back into the dating game, Patrick be damned.

Patrick Evans is no stranger to consequences. When your mother walks out, your dad drifts away. When you leave home, you’re on your own. And when you run away from the girl you love, you lose her. He finally has an opportunity to rebuild the bridge he burned, and it’s not one he’ll take for granted. But he’ll have to fight for her, even if it hurts. Even if it means he’ll walk away brokenhearted. Because deep down, he knows that she’s it for him.

The trick will be to get her to admit she feels it too.

Last Call Teaser

Review

It’s so true that some couples just don’t know how to get out of their own way and make things work by openly communicating and fighting for what they want…not running scared when things get tough or overwhelming. It’s never just one person to cause a relationship to breakdown when there are not extenuating circumstances. It takes two people to make it work and it takes them both to tear it down as well, which is exactly where Patrick and Rose are when Last Call begins.

It’s been 7 months since Patrick broke Rose’s heart and since that day, she’s built a wall to protect herself from any further heartbreak, but in the process, she also prevented herself from ever fully moving on and making amends with the one person who owns her heart regardless of how much she wished he didn’t.

Patrick realized almost immediately that he made a huge mistake by walking away from Rose because he was too afraid that she would break his heart and walk away from him, but he doesn’t know what to do with that information because Rose refuses to give him another chance, refuses to hear him out and allow him to explain why he did what he did.

But since Lily and West got together, Patrick and West’s apartment doesn’t really feel like his anymore and so he finds solace down the hall sleeping next door to Rose and hoping against hope there’s a way they can find their way back to each other and figure out how to be honest and tell each other how they feel, hopefully giving them the happily ever after just like their friends.

It was clear from the very beginning of their story that Patrick and Rose still wanted each other…even months after their break up and even after Rose’s heart was shredded when Patrick broke up with her. But things have never been easy between them so why would they think that getting over each other would be. All of their friends knew Patrick and Rose were better together but no one could mend what was broken between them if they weren’t willing to put their hearts on the line even if it meant heartache in the end.

Patrick and Rose’s story is perfectly titled. They have one more chance to make it work…to feel like the risk is worth it…to stay put instead of walking away when things get tough and to realize that the only thing standing between them is themselves.

Staci Hart does a great job of exploring what happens when friends become lovers and then hurt each other; Hart proves that even when a bond is still there, it’s hard to see past the hurt and pain that was caused in order to move forward, but she also illustrates how not letting go of the resentment and not fighting for what people want will only leave them lonely and unsure of where they fit in while everyone else around them revels in their own happiness.

Hart created a fantastic group of characters in her Bad Habits series, and I’m glad Lily and West as well as Cooper and Maggie are a big part of Last Call by being shoulders to lean on and the voice of reason for Patrick and Rose when they can’t seem to get their heads on straight. This group of friends has each other’s back and that is definitely shown throughout this entire series.

About the Author

Staci has been a lot of things up to this point in her life — a graphic designer, an entrepreneur, a seamstress, a clothing and handbag designer, a waitress. Can’t forget that. She’s also been a mom; she has three little girls who are sure to grow up to break a number of hearts. She’s been a wife; even though she’s certainly not the cleanest, or the best cook. She’s also super, duper fun at a party, especially if she’s been drinking whiskey. Her favorite word starts with f and ends with k.

From roots in Houston, to a seven year stint in Southern California, Staci and her family ended up settling somewhere in between and equally north, in Denver. They are new enough that snow is still magical. When she’s not writing, she’s sleeping, gaming, or designing graphics.

From New York Times Bestselling Author, Penelope Ward, comes a new standalone novel.

Sharing a summer house with a hot-as-hell roommate should be a dream come true, right?

Not when it’s Justin…the only person I’d ever loved…who now hates me.

When my grandmother died and left me half of the house on Aquidneck Island, there was a catch: the other half would go to the boy she helped raise.

The same boy who turned into the teenager whose heart I broke years ago.

The same teenager who’s now a man with a hard body and a hardass personality to match.

I hadn’t seen him in years, and now we’re living together because neither one of us is willing to give up the house.

The worst part? He didn’t come alone.

I’d soon realize there’s a thin line between love and hate. I could see through that smug smile. Beneath it all…the boy is still there. So is our connection.

The problem is…now that I can’t have Justin, I’ve never wanted him more.

Author’s note – RoomHate is a full-length standalone novel. Due to strong language and sexual content, this book is not intended for readers under the age of 18.

Romantic style photo of missing couple

Review

In the newest release to the Consequence series, The Consequence of Seduction, Rachel Van Dyken finally introduces Reid to his perfect girl – hopefully putting his Grandma nightmares to rest and allowing him to understand what it means to woo a girl with more than just his smoldering eyes.

But how does a heart throb in the making and an invisible girl go from dating as a publicity stunt to happily ever after?

The answer is simple enough – Max Emory.

Since the beginning of the series, Max Emory has stolen my heart with his crazy schemes, lewd comments, and hilarious reactions – all done in the name of love and friendship – even if his behavior, at times, should get him committed or in a fist fight with the very people he’s supposedly helping.

But Reid and Jordan can’t deny that Max’s fairy godmother behavior is exactly what they needed to be able to turn a ruse into reality, and with Max’s help, Jordan goes from a girl who lives in the background going unnoticed by everyone around her to the woman others are jealous of because she’s snagged the man everyone wants and just maybe, she can turn their “real-life taming of the shrew” into a relationship that makes Jordan feel extraordinary instead of invisible.

The Consequence of Seduction is a hilarious and heartwarming read that will have readers laughing out loud with Max’s antics as well as Reid and Jordan’s banter. Readers get to witness Reid’s taming of Jordan as well as Jordan’s domesticating of Reid and even though there’s misunderstandings and fears, readers remain hopeful throughout the course of the text that Reid and Jordan will get exactly what they both want and deserve – each other.

4 Poison Apples

The lady who fell in love

Excerpt

I wasn’t nervous. Please. The nervous guy was always played by a dude who had no fashion sense, had never kissed a girl, and thought that foreplay was an actual play—in baseball.

I had killer fashion.

Had kissed tons of girls—even secured my first by the age of four from a six-year-old riding the bus to school.

And foreplay was my specialty. I like to think that some men are just gifted in that area—not to boast, but I’m one of them.

Oh, and I was a hell of a baseball player.

So that weird, shaky feeling currently residing in my stomach, slithering its way up my chest? Heartburn.

I popped two Tums.

“Hey, you okay?” Jordan asked. Her big brown eyes were makeup free—making them look even prettier—more natural. She’d given up on her hair so it was wildly cascading in every direction known to mankind, giving her a sex kitten look I wasn’t at all comfortable her sporting outside my apartment.

“Yeah.” I coughed. “Heartburn.”

“Weird. I wonder why you have heartburn after all those shots, five slices of pizza, and three glasses of red wine?”

I grinned. “Beats me.”

She rolled her eyes and grabbed the remote from my hand.

“What are you doing?” I asked calmly, trying to keep my voice from shaking.

“Changing the channel?” she answered without looking at me. “The movie ended an hour ago and you usually go to bed at eleven, so . . .”

“But this is date night.”

“Uh-huh, and now date night is over. I’ll tell you what.” She turned and tucked her legs beneath her. “Since you’re new at this whole dating thing, I’ll give you a free pass and let you in on a little secret.”

“I’m listening.” Okay, so I was trying to listen while my eyes zeroed in on her low-cut blouse and fringes of the black lacy bra that was peeking from beneath. Focus. Focus. Focus. Did she have pizza sauce on her breast?

“When girls come home from a date, they don’t take a hot shower and run their hands all over their body moaning and groaning and replaying every touch, every caress, every kiss.”

Can’t. Look. Away. I leaned forward. Yup, definitely pizza sauce. “Well, that’s disappointing.”

“Usually, they pour themselves a glass of wine, toss off their tall heels, turn on the TV, put on their sweats, and read while New Girl plays in the background.”

How was it possible she wasn’t aware she had food on her chest?

“Reid, are you listening?”

“Of course I am!” I nodded. “Wine, heels, TV, books, New Girl.” I know, neat trick, right? Just pull the details out of what they said and repeat them. Works nine times out of ten. Unless you’re Max. If you’re Max, you usually just get punched, because he tends to brag about the fact he remembered in the first place.

“What?” Jordan looked down. “What are you staring at?”

“Sauce.”

“Huh?”

“Sauce.” I pointed. “Right there.”

Jordan rolled her eyes. “I’m not falling for that trick where you point and I look down and you hit me in the face. How old are you, ten?”

“No, seriously.” I moved forward. “You have pizza sauce right here.” I swiped it with my thumb and then licked it off.

“That should be gross,” she breathed.

“I know.”

“But it was kind of sexy.”

“I know.”

“Stop saying ‘I know.’”

I smirked. “Sorry . . . oh, look, you have something right here too.”

This time she did look down. And my ten-year-old self cheered as I knocked her in the chin and said, “Gotcha.”

Defeated, her shoulders slumped forward. “I deserved that.”

“I couldn’t help myself.” I watched in a hypnotic trance as her tongue sneaked out and teased her lower lip. It was the perfect moment for a kiss, but the line had been . . . skewed. I wasn’t sure if it was okay, in the privacy of my apartment, to actually kiss her. I mean, I’d kissed her, but this felt different, more intimate.

“This is the part”—Jordan leaned forward and gripped my shirt with both hands—“where you either kiss me or cough awkwardly, make an excuse, scratch your balls, and cower back in your bedroom.”

“Wow, so many choices,” I mused, meeting her halfway. “Eenie, meenie, minie—” Our mouths met in a frenzy. She tasted like wine and pizza.

Holy shit, it was hotter than it should have been.

My hands moved to her hips as I tried to pull her onto my lap. But her skirt was too tight.

“Damn it.” I tugged harder and heard a split.

Jordan reared back. “Did you just rip my skirt?”

“Small tear.”

“Rip.”

“No.” I gripped the fabric until it gave with a scratchy tearing sound. “That’s a rip.” With a grin I tossed the discarded remains onto the ground.

Jordan stared at the skirt for a few seconds before wrapping her legs around my torso and fusing her mouth with mine. “You owe me a skirt.”

“Can I rip you out of that one too?”

She laughed against my mouth. I stood, lifting her with me, and walked her backward toward my bedroom.

We looked good. She was half-naked, sexy, I was carrying her around like a badass, and then things went . . . south.

And not a good south.

“Watch out for my shoes—”

I tripped over two spiked heels, sending Jordan flying into the wall. She slid down said wall and landed on the plant—yes, the plant, the one she’d kept alive for all those years.

“My plant!” she yelled. I burst out laughing as remnants of dirt and plant sifted through her hands. “You killed it!”

“Whoa!” I held up my hands and backed up, tripping over the damn shoes again and stumbling to the floor.

I shit you not, Jordan giddyup crawled toward me, faster than lightning, straddled me, and started fighting.

“We’ll get you a new plant!” I yelled as she smacked my chest. I gripped her wrists and flipped her onto her back. “Don’t you think—”

She bucked beneath me.

“—it was probably time to let the plant go? You know, cut the apron strings!”

“It’s not my child!” she wheezed, tuckering herself out.

“Exactly.” I nodded, then released her hand and patted her cheek.

Her eyes went wild.

SYNOPSIS: Colonel Gabriel de Laurent departed for the war intending to die.

After a decade of bloodstained battlegrounds while fighting in Napoleon’s army, Gabriel returns to the streets of Paris a shattered and haunted soul. Plagued by inner demons, he swallows the barrel of his flintlock pistol and pulls the trigger.

But fate has a different plan.

Ariah Larochelle is a survivor. Orphaned at twelve and victim to a devastating crime, she has learned to keep her back to walls and to trust no one. But when she finds a gravely injured soldier washed up on the River Seine, she’s moved by compassion. In spite of her reservations, she rescues him from the icy water and brings him into her home.

Now scarred inside and out, Gabriel discovers a kindred spirit in Ariah—and feelings he imagined lost forever reawaken as he observes her strength in the face of adversity. But when Ariah’s own lethal secrets unfold, their new love is threatened by ancient ghosts. Can Gabriel and Ariah find hope in the wreckage of their pasts—or will the cycle of history repeat again?

Perfect for fans of Gaelen Foley’s Lord of Ice and Judith James’s Broken Wing, Finding Gabriel features all the dark romance, searing passion, and historical intrigue of The Phantom of the Opera and Les Misérables.

EXCERPT

“Look at me. Look at what you have saved.”

Gabriel released Ariah’s chin and tore away the bandage in a harsh movement. As his eyes bore into her own, pale moonlight fell upon the deformity, illuminating the twisted flesh and grotesque welts. The sight reminded her of a beautiful chateau . . . a stunning fortress situated along the coastline . . . one that had fallen into ruin and neglect. The skin was concave, destroyed, cavernous – a remnant of former glory. And the surrounding features – his burning eyes, the right side of his face, his powerful body – dwarfed the disfigurement with a striking beauty.

“Look at the monster you have created. Look upon my face, Ariah.”

She shivered at the sound of her name; slightly muffled from the injury to his mouth, it slid from his tongue with equal parts venom and hunger.

“I was supposed to die that night . . .” The last of his words ended in a choked whisper. His face fell forward in despair until his forehead was pressed against her own. He was impossibly close. And he appeared every gram a flesh-and-blood warrior – coarse and ruthlessly untamed. Sweltering heat radiated from his body and engulfed all five of her senses. She was suffocating. Visions of that long-ago night echoed in her mind until she could perceive nothing else. Ariah gave a shallow cry as she struggled to free herself once more.

“Don’t. Don’t leave me. Please.”

Her movements ceased. The words struck a chord deep inside her chest. She connected her gaze with his and was rendered speechless by the naked anguish in his stare. Regret and desire were etched in every line of his face – but what stole her breath was something entirely different. For the second time, it was neither anger nor resentment that radiated from his eyes, but a longing so intense that it nearly overwhelmed her: hope

SYNOPSIS

To rescue her was to rescue his own soul.

On a cold Parisian night, Vicomte Aleksender de Lefèvre forges an everlasting bond with a broken girl during her darkest hour, rescuing her from a life of abuse and misery. Tormented by his own demons, he finds his first bit of solace in sheltering little Sofia Rose.

But when Aleksender is drawn away by the Franco-Prussian war, the seasons pass. And in that long year, Sofia matures into a stunning young woman—a dancer with an understanding of devotion and redemption far surpassing her age.

Alongside his closest friend, Aleksender returns home to find that “home” is gone, replaced by revolution, bloodshed, betrayal—and a love always out of reach. Scarred inside and out, he’s thrust into a world of sensuality and violence—a world in which all his hours have now grown dark, and where only Sofia might bring an end to the winter in his heart.

Inspired by the 1871 Paris Commune, The Frost of Springtime is a poignant tale of revolution, redemption, and the healing power of love.

Excerpt

What happened next was totally unpredictable. One second, I was looking at my picture on the desktop, all smiling and beautiful on my graduation day, while the next second, I thought I’d seen a ghost. The face that was looking back at me had a rather distorted face with a leathery texture. The right side of the face was covered in something that was a weird color of yellow and white; it looked like it was made up of play dough, while the left side was all clean, normal and soft. The skin looked leathery, almost gaunt and scary. It was charred at some part of my cheeks and towards my neck.

The eyes that stared back at me were the same colors as mine, chocolate brown, and the skin on the normal side of the face looked like my skin as well. It was my face; just a distorted version. I tried to touch the left side of my face, but it felt smooth under my skin. My breathing hitched as I realized that the ghostly skin, the gauntness in the eyes—it was all mine.

And then I screamed at the top of my lungs. I saw the ghost in the screen in front open her mouth, but the only noise that I heard was of my own howl. This can’t be me! This can’t be me! I tried to tell myself again and again.

The door flung open, and the nurses rushed in, looking around at my source of terror, but she found nothing. She came towards me and glanced at the laptop. Seeing the Photo Booth application open, she quickly, picked up the laptop from my knees and shut the flap.

“You’re not supposed to use that yet!” she scolded me as she put the laptop back on the side table. I was having difficulty breathing and my heartbeat was going a mile a minute.

Trying to dash off to find the British Prince of Moodiness proves difficult in the six-inch stilettos the stylist had strapped onto my feet. I didn’t wear clothing like this. I was the Oklahoma girlnextdoor, cute and pretty in my sundresses and boots. I didn’t do skintight, short or heeled. I could hear the snickers of the PR handlers around me as I stumbled like a baby calf off of the carpet in search of my responsibility.

Turning down the block and moving away from the mayhem, I spotted a tall figure in the shadows. I’d read enough about Jack the Ripper before coming over here to be spooked, but then I saw the shine of a metal flask being raised to the lips, and I could only take one guess as to who that was.

I marched up, as best as I could in the shoes. “You need to come back and walk the red carpet.”

Killian’s skyblue eyes twinkled with sly amusement and barely restrained anger. “Oh, and you’re going to make me, huh America’s Sweetheart?”

The smell of what I’m sure was overlyexpensive whiskey blew across my face as he exhaled. He pretended to give an air of nonchalance, but I could read his body language better than he thought I could. He was so coiled and tense, he gave a cobra ready to strike a run for its money. Rage and sorrow poured off of him in waves, blanketing the dark side street in misery so abundant that I could feel it down to my bones. And something else. I don’t know why it struck me, perhaps because the emotion was running through my veins as well. But this man…he was lonely.

“You’re cheeky, I like that.” He raised the flask in a salute to me and tilted his head back as the amber liquid disappeared into that appealing mouth. Damn it. This bad boy with a bad attitude was not going to ruin my career or my time here. I was done letting people decide the future for me, sweeping me along in the current just because I let them.

I knocked the flask straight out of his hand, sending little droplets of whiskey landing on both of us.

“Listen you jackass! I don’t know who you are. In fact, I don’t care if you’re the Prime Minister of this country! This job, I really need it. I’m taking this shot and succeeding at it if it means I have to put my blood, sweat and tears into it. And some London bad boy parading his pissed off attitude around for the world to see is not going to stop me! So button your jacket, plaster a smile on, and get on that carpet!”

My breathing was ragged, all of the energy I’d saved up to get through the event suddenly spent. Jetlag, homesickness and heartbreak were taking over, and I could feel the pull of all three from the inside out.

The leer on Killian’s face only proved that my tirade was all for nothing.

And then he moved. It was a blur of motion and speed before my back was against a brick wall. He’d pinned me, like a wolf circling in on their prey. Nervous tremors washed over my flesh, and I could hear the roaring in my ears. I was half afraid he would actually rip my throat out for speaking to him that way. The other half of me was too incredibly aroused to care.

“I am bad. But I’m not a boy, I’m a man. Have you ever been with a man, little lamb?” He chuckled darkly, leaning his entire form into me and pinning my hips with his hands. “No, I don’t think you have.”
