My hands wander down to his forearms. “You want me now today, or forever? Or maybe a time in between those two?”

“Always. Always, Fast Lane. I want you forever. This is hard for me, too. Sharing isn’t a word in my repertoire.” It shouldn’t be in mine either. His gaze darts to the water on the side of my house. My island doesn’t feel as safe as it did five minutes ago.

Focusing on the task at hand, I lean my head against his chest. “I need to break up with Dax.” I don’t need to explain. I owe it to Dax to keep the explanations for him. I feel Cody’s hand in my hair and his kiss on the top of my head.

“I’m sorry for this.” His voice is low and coiled with control. “I’d deal with it if I could. I’d make the pain go away if there was a way.”

I shake my head. “It’s my fault. I never stopped loving you, Cody. I should have. My, God I should have.” I look up to meet his gaze, ice blue, so much like Dax’s.

“He saved me, but you own me.”

With the hands that are still in my hair, he brings my face up to meet with his, our lips touching in the barest flutter of a kiss. Not enough to taste him, but enough to know he’s mine right back. “Be mine again. All mine.” There’s that word again. I think of Dax.

Chapter One

The letter smelled like her.

Like rain.

He ran his thumb over the corner of the paper, and closed his eyes briefly. Memories rose to the surface, feeling like hope and possibility.

Far too risky things when it came to her.

Michael shut them down, opened his eyes, and stared out the floor-to-ceiling windows of his penthouse on the Strip, trying to focus on the here and now, not the enticing lure of what if. Soon, the lights of Vegas would blink like a carnival unfolding below him, from the miniature Eiffel Tower, to the pyramid, to the blazing signs adorning The Cosmopolitan. Neon, glitz, and billboards ten stories high whispered of the best nights ever.

He had to stay fixed on the minute details of the present, not be seduced by the past, and how good it was. Or of how much he’d longed for a future with her.

Boy did life imitate art in the final book of Nelle L’Amour’s Unforgettable series. Book three was a cross between Jerry Springer, Cops, and a May sweeps dramatic series episode, and how can it not go down that way when there’s one of the nastiest female characters I’ve ever read – Katrina. She epitomizes the catty bitch readers/viewers love to hate and her claws are out to play.

Brandon definitely has his work cut out for him with Katrina and Zoey and his acting skills are going to come in handy in order for him to fix the mess he’s created by not standing up for himself and defending the woman he loves and the way everything shakes out in the end couldn’t be scripted any better.

After Zoey gets her heart broken and finally resolves herself to live her unhappily ever after, she works hard to put everything with Brandon and Katrina behind her and focus on herself; it’s definitely not easy, but Zoey finds the fight to keep going and has the courage to do something she’s always wanted and how that occurs is screenwriting at its finest.

But regardless of how much Zoey wants to forget Brandon and everything that they shared, he’s unforgettable and irreplaceable in her heart, so there’s a chance Brandon can dig himself out of the hole he’s dug for himself if he acts with his heart in order to land his dream girl.

The conclusion of Brandon and Zoey’s story is every television show genre in one – there’s drama…there’s comedy…there’s definitely steam, and the horror and reality factors play their part as well, and when everything is said and done, when their story finally fades to black, readers will feel like they’ve been put through the wringer, which is exactly what I think Nelle L’Amour wanted us to feel!

I definitely wasn’t expecting Makenna and Caden’s story to take the turn that it did, but the more I thought about it, the more I understood that that’s exactly the direction Laura Kaye needed to take them because without dealing with Caden’s past – a past that is very much still in his present – there’s no moving forward for the couple.

The conclusion to Makenna and Caden’s story is an emotional journey, and it’s one of enlightenment for Caden, which is exactly what he needs to let the light completely in.

“Do you want to get changed and I’ll set dinner out?” Caden asked.

“Yeah,” Makenna said. “Sounds great.” The kitchen, dining area, and living room were one big room, with her bedroom door toward the far end. She paused there and looked back. He still had his townhouse in Fairlington, but he rarely slept there anymore. And it was so bare bones in furnishings that he preferred they not sleep there because he feared she’d be uncomfortable. A part of her wasn’t sure why he even kept it at this point.

“Oh, I got trapped with a smoking hot stranger and made out with him in the dark. The usual,” she said.

He smirked. “That never happens.”
