When beautiful, sad Melissa Jones flees to New Orleans with her telepathic best friend, she is looking for a cure—not an erotic encounter with a sexy former Marine.

At a bar on Bourbon Street, Derek and Melissa cross paths, and their sexual chemistry is off the charts. Acting on their feelings, they are pulled deeper into an affair, but Melissa is hiding, hoping to escape her cruel maker.

It doesn’t take long before the shifters uncover her secret. Still, Derek is determined to confront the Old One and reclaim her mortality—even at the risk of losing his.

ONE IMMORTAL TEASER 1

Review

I absolutely love where Tia Louise took Melissa and Derek’s relationship in One Immortal – all of their deep feelings and the instantaneous, sizzling connection still exists in the darkness of the paranormal world, even putting a series of different obstacles in their way, but it still stays true to the essence of what the couple had from their very first encounter in One to Hold. In a way, due to their other worldly attributes, their connection is deepened and amplified in a way that every emotion resonates off of the pages, and as the mystery unfolds and questions are answered, readers are treated to a New Orleans’ underworld that never sleeps and threatens to take every character into the black magic environment of the Big Easy.

Melissa and Derek are both searching for answers when their pull towards each other distracts them and the control they’re both holding tightly to begins to unravel. They crave one another, but that need is dangerous because Derek’s hunting the type of monster that Melissa was forced to turn into and one taste is all it takes for their desire for each other becomes a thirst they can’t quench and don’t want to despite the repercussions of their sensual relationship.

The paranormal world created in One Immortal is vividly brought to life through Tia Louise’s word choice and the details she uses to bring the underworld into the light; this world includes a multitude of supernatural characters – some who are allies to Derek and Melissa and others who threaten everything they’re building as well as their lives. Elaine, Patrick, Stuart and Mariska are all play pivotal roles in helping Melissa to fight her cravings and protecting everyone against other vampires thirsting for new blood. Things also move forward in their own relationships, which flows nicely into their own paranormal stories, which definitely need to be told because Louise transitioned Derek and Melissa’s story into the paranormal realm so well, keeping the essence of who they are together and bringing the darker and more sensual aspects of the supernatural.

(A paranormal retelling of the Derek & Melissa story)

Melissa

Derek clears his throat, and glances down. “You told them?”

“Told us what?” Patrick looks up from where he and Elaine are sharing a private tête-à-tête consisting of smiles and soft laughter.

“My friend got a little hungry last night.” Elaine gives him a wink, but his expression turns fierce. If my friend weren’t blocking him, he’d be on his feet grabbing me.

“What the fuck?”

Derek extends a strong arm. “Take it easy. It doesn’t concern you.”

“Fucking concerns me if you end up dead and drained.”

“Oh god,” I whisper. “I’m sorry.” Turning in my seat, I have a straight shot for the door, and I take it.

I’m down the short flight of stairs, out on the flagstone sidewalk, when Derek catches me, cornering me between a white stucco column and a curtained window. His large body shields me from the street traffic.

“Where are you going?” A smile is in his voice, but I’m on the verge of tears.

“He’s right. I can’t risk your life like this.”

“It’s my decision, and I want to help you.”

Holding his arms, I can’t stop a shiver. “If anything happened to you. If I couldn’t stop—”

“You will. You controlled it last night. You’ll control it again.”

Shaking my head, my fingers tighten on his biceps. “You have no idea how hard it is to control.” His nearness, his breath against my skin sends desire racing to my core. “I can barely control it now.”

His head lowers, his breath a warm whisper at my cheek. “What are you feeling right now?”

Lifting my chin, I take a deep inhale of his masculine scent. My nose just touches his collarbone, following the line of his neck higher. My insides clench, and I feel his muscles respond to my nearness, beckoning me on. His pulse is just beneath his skin. A whispered moan exhales through my lips as they part, allowing me to touch him with my tongue.

With a hiss, I realize my fangs are out. I’m on the street, in the middle of a mercifully overcast day, on the edge of biting him again. My hand flies to cover my mouth, and I see desire burning in his navy eyes.

“Oh, god, Derek.” I can barely speak between my changed features and my hand.

He shocks me when he only grins. “Glad I’m not the only one who can’t hide how attracted I am to you.” A shift of his hips, and I feel the erection nudging my thigh.

It’s exactly what I needed, because a little laugh chokes out with my frightened tears. He pulls my face to his chest while we both attempt to regain control.

“Deep breaths, my love. I’m not going anywhere, and you’re not going to hurt me.”

RELEASE WEEK REVIEW: THE FIFTEENTH MINUTE by Sarina Bowen

The Fifteenth Minute

Sarina Bowen’s Ivy Years is my favorite New Adult series of all-time!” — Elle Kennedy, New York Times bestselling author of The Deal
A love story brimming with emotion and tenderness. Read it and fall in love like I did.” — Kristen Callihan, USA Today bestselling author of The Hook Up

Summary

Just because she’s famous doesn’t mean she’s happy.

Freshman Lianne Challice is known to millions of fans as Princess Vindi. But sometimes a silver screen sorceress just wants to hang up her wand, tell her manager to shove it, and become a normal college student. Too bad that’s harder than it looks.

She’s never lived a normal life. She hasn’t been to school since kindergarten. And getting close to anyone is just too risky — the last boy she kissed sold the story to a British tabloid.

But she can’t resist trying to get close to Daniel “DJ” Trevi, the hot, broody guy who spins tunes for hockey games in the arena. Something’s haunting his dark eyes, and she needs to know more.

DJ’s genius is for expressing the mood of the crowd with a ten second song snippet. With just a click and a fade, he can spread hope, pathos or elation among six thousand screaming fans.

Too bad his college career is about to experience the same quick fade-out as one of his songs. He can’t get close to Lianne, and he can’t tell her why. And the fact that she seems to like him at all? Incredible.

Excerpt

Lianne Challice is chatting me up.

As I fetch the pizza I ordered from the window, I try to decide whether or not I’m going insane. Maybe all the stress in my life has finally cracked me.

But no. When I deposit the pie on a table, her big eyes cut from the jukebox over to me, before darting away again. She is so freaking cute and so feminine that it’s making me crazy. Her mouth is like a little red candy that I’m dying to taste. And who has teeth that straight? She intimidates the fuck out of me, to be honest.

I make another trip to the pizza counter for paper plates and napkins. Usually we just grab slices off the tray like animals. But tonight I’m trying to be classy. The idea makes me snicker to myself. As if. Impressing Lianne Challice isn’t something I’m capable of. But I’m having fun trying. And there hasn’t been a whole lot of fun in this year for me. So that’s something.

Years from now I’ll look back on this night and laugh. Guys, did I ever tell you about the time I chatted up a movie star? I mean, my father is still telling people about the time he sat one table over from Tina Fey at Nobu.

Lianne sneaks another glance in my direction and I beckon to her. “Have a slice?” If she wants one, now is the time. In a minute my brother and his teammates will fall on the pizza like seagulls.

“Thank you. I guess I should. I didn’t make it to the dining hall tonight.”

“Your enthusiasm for Capri’s pizza overwhelms me,” I tease. “Aren’t you a fan?”

She slides a slice onto a paper plate, considering the question. “Pizza is like a nineties hit. Pretty good, especially if that’s all there is and you’re hungry.”

My own slice stops halfway to my mouth and I laugh. “Seriously?”

“What?”

“I don’t know if we can be friends,” I say before taking a bite.

“Because I don’t love pizza?

I shake my head. “Who doesn’t love pizza? It’s, like, a basic human desire.” I cram a bite into my mouth to prove my point. Smooth, right?

She bites her bottom lip, and I realize I’d rather have that for dinner. “It’s okay. But it’s mostly just something you eat when you’re in a hurry or need to feed a crowd on the cheap.”

“Ah, I see,” I say when I can speak again. “The problem is that you haven’t had any great pizza. You’re a freshman, right? You don’t know all the glory that is Harkness pizza. Have you been to Gino’s Apizza?”

Lianne shakes her head. “I don’t think so.”

“She doesn’t think so,” I scoff. “Baby, if you’d had great pizza, you’d remember.” And now I sound like a real perv, but Lianne Challice is smiling at me, watching me with her big doe eyes, and I feel it like a drug. “They make everything from scratch. Even the sausage. We’ll go together, so I can prove my point.”

Annnd I think I just asked a movie star out on a date. Here comes the crash and burn.

First her eyes widen just a smidge. Then two pink spots appear on her face, one on either cheekbone. “Well, it would be a shame to live in this town and never know its true pizza greatness.”

I replay that sentence in my head and realize that she didn’t turn me down. “True,” I agree. “Do you think Thursday would be a night to experience pizza Nirvana?” I’m overselling the hell out of Gino’s now, but it’s working for me.

She gives me a serious frown, and I’m hoping she’s not busy on Thursday. Because I have back-to-back hockey games to DJ on Friday and Saturday. “Thursday it is. I shall prepare to be amazed.”

Review

Sarina Bowen definitely knows how to craft interesting story lines around controversial and relatable topics, and her characters are also realistic in the struggles they go through and the variety of ways they handle them, and in the fifth book of her The Ivy Years series, she explores subjects that are current hot button topics in the media – sexual conduct on college campuses, aggressive paparazzi, and the price of fame at a young age, and while Bowen does a great job of shedding light on all of those issues, I felt like they overshadowed the actual relationship and feelings that were forming between DJ and Lianne, not allowing me to truly see/feel the chemistry between them nor understand why, particularly DJ, is willing to risk so much to be together despite how easily it could blow up in his face.

As separate characters, I really enjoyed learning about who DJ and Lianne really are and the insecurities that Lianne has despite being a well-paid actress. They both seem to overanalyze everything and due to the positions they find themselves, it makes sense and Bowen makes sure that readers understand DJ’s reasons for keeping Lianne at arm’s length for so long and what being in that position is costing him.

Another aspect of the text that I liked is the way Bowen inserts humorous parts as a kind of comic relief after heavy situations, and she also includes all of the previous characters in multiple scenes as a way to catch up with the characters we’ve grown to love and also to illustrate how much of a family the hockey team is and how far their reach goes. That’s one of the main reasons why I love reading a series where each book focuses on a different couple; readers don’t have to completely say goodbye to characters because they pop up in the other books and give us a bit more insight into how they’re doing.

Overall, the Fifteenth Minute is an enjoyable new adult read. It’s angsty, sexy, and entertaining, and it even has parts in it that gamers and athletes will love. It’s not my favorite of the series, but it is one that has some important life lessons in it that readers can easily learn from and find applicable.

Soraya Naomi – “For Cesare”

Website | FacebookGoodreads | Twitter

I was born in South America in 1984 and raised in Europe where I presently reside with my fiancé.

I read many genres but favor intense, dark, seductive, and provocative novels where the male character loves fiercely, without remorse or boundaries. I also adore forbidden love tales and have an odd fascination with kidnapping romances. No, I don’t secretly want to be kidnapped, though!

I have a passionate obsession with the written word and indulge in chocolate pastries much too often.

My debut novel For Fallon (Chicago Syndicate, #1) was released on July 26, 2014. I’m honored that For Fallon won “Best Breakout Novel 2014” in the Novel Grounds Semi Annual Literary Awards.

Synopsis

Everyone knows you should never say never.

Cooper Moore never saw Maggie Williams coming. She was just his best friend’s little sister, the curly-haired, freckle-faced girl from Mississippi who was absolutely off limits. And he never thought about her any other way — not until he saw her that night, broken and brave. From that moment on, he knew he’d do whatever it took to protect her, even if it meant he had to stay away.

Maggie never expected to find her fiancé banging her maid of honor an hour before she was set to walk down the aisle, but life’s funny that way. The only option to save her sanity is to get the hell out of Jackson and move to New York where her brother lives. The only downside: Cooper is there too. And she just doesn’t know if she can stay away from him — the filthy rich, dead sexy playboy who’s allergic to commitment.

The second Maggie sees him again, she realizes he’ll be impossible to resist. Luckily, commitment is the last thing on her mind, and Cooper is the perfect escape. As long as she can keep her heart in check, everything will be just fine. Because she can never have feelings for him. Or at least that’s what she’ll keep telling herself.

Chaser is a standalone romantic comedy and book 2 of the Bad Habits series.

Excerpt

Cooper grabbed me by the hips and dragged me to the end of the bed where he knelt. I gasped — somehow, I was completely naked, but he was fully clothed, smiling up the line of my body, that crooked smile of his that made my insides turn into mush. My thighs rested against his shoulders, and his eyes were smoldering hot, locked onto mine as he closed his lips over me and sucked. Hard.

“Whoamygod.”

That’s what I tried to say, at least, but I think it sounded more like Humuguh. Not that Cooper needed clarification. His eyes closed, dark lashes against his cheeks, fingers digging into my hips as he licked and sucked, sending tremors up my thighs when he moaned softly against me. My eyes slammed shut, and my chin pointed at the ceiling as my fingers twisted in his dark hair. Within seconds, I was rocking against him with my heart doing its best to escape my ribs and the rest of my body begging him to keep going.

He broke away. I cracked my lids, which weighed about seven pounds each, and glanced down at him. His face was turned toward the closed bedroom door, with alarm written in every angle.

And then I heard the front door close.

Lily.

Cooper looked back at me, blue eyes wide, and we stared at each other for one stunned second before bursting into action. I rolled out of bed with wobbly knees, and he stood, scanning the room for a place to hide.

Here’s the problem: No one knew Cooper and I were hooking up.

Here’s the bigger problem: My brother, West, might actually kill Cooper if he found out.

Review

A Runner and a Chaser – on paper, that dynamic should work with ease because the one following behind will ensure that the other doesn’t get too far away or end up completely gone. But for Maggie Williams (the runner) and Cooper Moore (the chaser), the complexities and feelings involved in their no strings, secretive relationship, the complication of Cooper’s relationship with Maggie’s brother, and Maggie’s past and strict rules create a guaranteed mess that is bound to break hearts and friendships regardless of how careful Maggie believes she’s being in keeping Cooper at arm’s length.

Cooper Moore – like a lot of rich, playboys – lives a glorious life of leisure, partying and womanizing long into the night, but if people willingly looked past the slacker persona and got to know the real Cooper, the one that he hides from most people, they’ll understand the reasons that Maggie has a difficult time keeping her feelings out of their arrangement because as Cooper and Maggie’s story progresses, readers witness his transformation into a man who now has a purpose – someone who has been altered to his core by a woman who may not have been his in the beginning but will soon be if he has anything to say about it.

Maggie Williams is broken and simply existing, trying to figure out where her life is supposed to take her now that it’s basically imploded with her fiancé’s betrayal. Cooper was meant to be someone who helped her through a difficult night and perhaps provide her with a few weeks of fun, but even with her carefully crafted rules, Cooper finds a way to sneak past her defenses and become someone she can’t get enough of, which is exactly what scares the shit out of her. Ever since her would be wedding day, Maggie has been running scared – afraid to get hurt…afraid to give her to her feelings…afraid to deal with anything too overwhelming, and all of that avoiding has caused her to truly face nothing, which only further complicates things instead of making them easier.

Cooper and Maggie may not make a lot of sense to those around them, but they actually give each other exactly what they need, which allows Cooper to find his place in life and figure out his path, and even though it will take Maggie a bit longer and quite a bit of sadness and torment, she’ll also realize what needs to happen in order to deal with her past and move forward but none of that is going to work if she doesn’t stop running.

Chaser is an incredible story about self-discovery and the simple and impossible ways life gives you what you want and need. I love that Staci Hart provides readers with both Cooper and Maggie’s perspective because it allows us to truly understand what they’re both going through as their feelings for each other grow and the fear that that brings to Maggie and the peace that it provides for Cooper.

Sometimes it’s good to be chased – and let me tell you, if Cooper Moore was chasing me, I wouldn’t  mind getting caught, but I’d make him work for it of course;)

EXCERPT REVEAL: The Fall Up by Aly Martinez

the fall up excerpt reveal

EXCERPT ONE

Chapter One

Levee

It was raining. Isn’t that the way all great love stories start? And also usually end? The midnight air was cool against my skin as I stared off that bridge. My blond wig was secured in place by a headband, and chunky sunglasses covered my whiskey-colored eyes. I didn’t look like myself any more than I felt it. Bruises from the night before painted my legs while fresh scabs covered my knees, but it was the hollowness in my chest that hurt the most.

Yep. Still me.

Which was exactly why I was standing on that bridge, wishing for the mental fortitude to hurl myself off.

A man’s voice interrupted my thoughts. “You finally gonna do it tonight?”

I instinctually smoothed my fake hair down and pressed the bridge of my glasses closer to my face, sealing out any possible glance he could catch. I stared ahead as I snapped, “Excuse me?”

“I’ve seen you here three nights in a row now. I was just wondering if tonight was going to be the night you finally jump.”

My eyes flashed wide, but since they were covered by the dark glasses, my reaction remained hidden. “I just like the view. That’s all.” What a load of shit.

I watched him nod out of the corner of my eye. “Yeah me too. It’s gorgeous up here.”

Shuffling my feet to the side, I attempted to slip away as he pulled a pack of cigarettes from his pocket and offered it my way.

“You want one?”

I shook my head and then crept down a few inches to put distance between us.

“Suit yourself.” He used a hand to shield the lighter from the wind, but the constant sprinkle of rain made his task impossible. “Damn it,” he cursed with the cigarette tucked between his lips. “Little help?” he asked, swinging his gaze to mine.

Arching an eyebrow, I asked, “With what?”

“It’s raining…and windy…and I’m trying to burn one.” He tilted his head, equally as incredulous.

“You want me to call God? We had a bad breakup recently, but he might be willing to do me one last favor.”

He breathed an exaggerated sigh of relief. “That would be fantastic. What’s the big guy’s response time like these days? Last time we spoke, it was”—he paused to look at his watch—“oh, twenty-seven years.”

A soft laugh bubbled from my throat, and one side of his mouth lifted in a gorgeous grin.

“I’m not exactly in the mood to wait that long, so maybe you could just block the wind with your body?” His smile spread as he stepped toward me, forcing my gaze to nervously bounce away.

“Sorry. Can’t help you there. Lung cancer and I broke up too.” After gathering the back of my wig into a ponytail, I pulled it over my shoulder and turned away from him. The chill of the wind blasted my face and roared over my ears as it rushed past me.

I went back to staring out at the dark, choppy water, becoming lost in the idea of how cold it might be.

Is tonight the night?

No.

My feet would more than likely never leave the edge of that bridge, but there was a definite reason why I was imagining ending it all. Exactly zero other people in the world would understand why. I had it all, and I dreamed about losing it all—more often than I would ever admit, even to myself.

After stepping out of my heels, I slipped my foot between the bars on the railing. The wind slammed my bruised leg against the metal. “Shit,” I hissed as pain shot through me.

“You think that hurts? Imagine falling twenty-five stories then crashing into the water, which might as well be concrete, at speeds upward of seventy miles per hour,” the man said, leaning on the metal railing next to me.

“Wow. Someone’s done some research,” I said sarcastically, barely sparing him a glance.

“Daily,” he responded frankly, causing my surprised gaze to swing to his. Simply shrugging at my reaction, he turned his back to the railing and propped himself up on his colorfully tattooed forearms. “You forget I’ve been here the last three nights in a row too.” He smirked, lifting the cigarette up to his lips for a deep inhale.

“Listen, I’m not going to jump if you’re some kind of caped crusader on a mission. I just needed some fresh air.” I pointedly glanced at his cigarette.

A laugh escaped his mouth in a grey puff. “Fresh air is overrated. Especially given the reason you’re standing here.” He knowingly arched a dark-brown eyebrow.

“Riiiiight,” I drawled, rolling my eyes behind my glasses. “Okay, well, I was just heading out anyway.”

“Then my work here is done.” He bowed, and the corner of my mouth lifted in a smile as I stepped back into my shoes and walked away.

I shook my head at the random stranger. Then, a thought struck me, stopping me only a few feet away. Spinning back to face him, I asked, “Wait. Were you reaching out to me as a cry for help?”

“Oh look. Designer Shoes has a conscience!” He dropped his cigarette to the damp ground, stepping on it with the toe of his well-worn, black boots. Bending over, he picked the butt up and tucked it in his pocket.

At least he didn’t litter.

“Oh look. Tattooed Stalker has jokes!” I smarted back.

He smiled, pulling another cigarette from his pocket and then pausing just before guiding it between his lips. “Were you judging me based on my tattoos? I’m offended.” He feigned anguish then laughed while lifting his lighter to once again battle the wind for a nicotine fix.

I wanted to walk away, but he wasn’t wrong. I did have a conscience, and right then, I was worried that it might really be his night to make good on his apparent numerous visits to the bridge.

With a huff, I headed back towards him, praying that I could wrap it up as quickly as possible then head back to my house for a few hours of sleep. Or, more likely, lie awake while staring at the ceiling and crying.

“Are you planning to jump for real?” I asked.

His smile fell as he focused on the water. “Nah. I don’t have the balls to do something like that. Talking to you wasn’t a plea for help or anything. You just look worse than usual tonight.” His gaze slid down to my battered legs.

“Oh!” I exclaimed in understanding. “That’s not at all what you’re thinking. I fell down some stairs.”

He quirked his lips in disbelief.

“I’m serious!”

“I’m sure you are,” he told the wind. “You can go. I’m good.”

I could have walked away, but for some reason, I pulled my jacket tighter around my shoulders and silently stood there while he finished his cigarette.

After a final deep inhale, he flicked it over the railing of the bridge.

Apparently, he does litter.

Turning to me, his face became serious. “You need to call the cops before he makes the decision to end it all for you.”

“Who?” I asked, watching the burning ember hit the metal column then explode in a million different sparks before disappearing down to the water below.

Lucky cigarette.

“The stairs…and whatever inanimate object you’re blaming for those bruises you’re hiding behind sunglasses at one in the morning. You should call the cops before…” His voice trailed off, but his dark gaze narrowed on mine. His eyes bored into my hidden stare, combining with the rain and wind to send chills down my spine.

I took the moment to secretly assess him. He was insanely sexy, but nothing like the men I was accustomed to. His chin was the kind of scruffy that made women weak, but it was obvious he didn’t pay four hundred dollars for his personal hairstylist to shape it. Judging by his shaggy, brown hair that begged for me to thread my fingers in it, I wasn’t sure he was even a barbershop kind of guy. He stood a few inches taller than I was in heels, so I pegged him at around six one. And while his tattooed forearms were deliciously sculpted and his shoulders were notably defined, his body didn’t appear to be swollen with muscles from hours spent at the gym. By the aura of bad boy he gave off, I would have expected him to be a self-consumed, arrogant prick.

He wasn’t though.

He was just an average guy worrying about the well-being of an average girl.

Only he couldn’t have been more wrong, and a pang of guilt hit me hard.

Just not hard enough for me to do anything to correct his assumptions about who I was.

Very softly, I attempted to put his fears to rest. “I promise it’s not what you’re thinking.”

“Okay,” he responded, unconvinced. He nodded to himself before dragging another cigarette from his pocket.

I watched him struggle for a second before I scooted towards him, using my body to block the wind.

Biting the cigarette between his straight, white teeth, he smiled devilishly around it. “Thanks.” Flicking the flame to life, he hunched over until a stream of smoke swirled up from the red tip.

“You should stop smoking.”

“Noted.” He exhaled through his nose.

We went back to silently staring over the side of the bridge. The familiar lights of the San Francisco skyline danced all around us. And, even as tourists and locals alike passed by us, I felt an odd, and unbelievably comfortable, isolation standing there with him.

When my teeth began to chatter, his attention was drawn my way. “I’m not here to jump. You really can go.”

I nodded but didn’t move away.

He chuckled, crossing his arms over his chest and rubbing his biceps for warmth.

“How are you not frozen?” I asked, taking in his thin Henley for the first time since we met.

Shrugging, he dropped his cigarette, answering as he bent to retrieve it. “Thick skin? I’m used to it? I come here a lot? I’m half Eskimo?”

I eyed him suspiciously. “You’re cold, aren’t you?”

“Fucking. Freezing,” he admitted, tucking his arms close to his body and blowing into his hands. “I just came up here for one smoke. Then I saw you. Now, come on. Be a lady and loan a man a jacket,” he joked, tugging on the edge of my coat.

I laughed, hugging it even tighter around my body and stepping out of his reach. “How about we both just leave? Then neither of us have to worry about the other plummeting to their death.”

“Sounds like an amazing plan.” He shoved his hands into the pockets of the tattered jeans riding low on his hips. As we began the hike back down to the foot of the bridge, he asked, “You have a name, Designer Shoes?”

I smiled and shook my head, not willing to lie—or divulge the truth.

“Yeah. Me either,” he replied.

I bit my bottom lip to suppress a laugh.

Side by side, we trudged the rest of the way in silence.

When we got to the foot of the bridge, he turned to face me and sighed. “Well, I genuinely hope I never see you again.”

My head snapped back in shock, and maybe a little hurt.

But he quickly corrected himself. “No! I just mean… Shit.” He ran a nervous hand through his hair while I watched, amused. “I just mean, given the way we met… I…um. I hope you never have a reason to go back up there.”

I teasingly tipped my head to the side. “But I really like the view.”

He cleared his throat. “Right. Of course, the view. Okay, well, have a good night.”

“You too.” I smiled tightly, but my feet didn’t budge. I told myself that it was because I didn’t want him to see my car or the bodyguard waiting for me behind the wheel. But, in reality, I just wasn’t ready to leave. Home wasn’t where I wanted to be. I didn’t actually want to be anywhere.

Not even standing at the foot of a bridge, talking to a witty and sexy man.

Okay, maybe I wanted that a little bit.

“Yep. Have a good night,” he repeated, shoving his hands inside his pockets and slowly backing away.

I gave him a quick wave, which he returned before he jogged in the other direction.

I smiled to myself, shaking my head at the entire interaction—secretly lamenting that it hadn’t been longer.

Excerpt

“So, how does all this work? Do you mind if I pry a little?” Her cheeks heated slightly, knowing all the questions spinning in her mind. It was one thing to hear about it over drinks the other night, it was quite another to see it with her own eyes.

“Pry away,” he chuckled softly, his hand slowly stroking up and down against her spine.

Awareness zinged through her. It had been a long time since she’d felt a man’s touch. Six months to be exact.

“How did she end up living here with you?”

“I knew her through a mutual acquaintance, and after breaking up with her ex, she needed somewhere to live. I offered my guest room up. Rent free. No strings. And she said yes.”

“That was awfully nice of you.” She blinked at him in wide-eyed astonishment. It wasn’t something many people would do.

“Trust me, I’m very far from being a white knight.” His voice dropped lower, and his hand came to rest at her lower back again. “Our relationship sort of evolved from there.”

He didn’t continue, leaving Lacey to guess if it was some type of BDSM interest that they shared.

“What else is going on inside that pretty head of yours?” he asked.

“H-how did you come to be this way?” She cringed when she realized how it sounded. As though he was damaged goods. Then again, maybe he was. Nolan didn’t even raise an eyebrow to her question.

“After a demanding career as a SEAL …” He let out a deep sigh, gazing down at the courtyard. “My goals are much simpler now – to enjoy life one day at a time and take pleasure where I find it.”

She simply nodded. He didn’t elaborate, but he didn’t need to. Growing up in a family of men who served, she knew he had seen too much, done too much, probably experienced losing teammates he fought beside. She knew it could mess a man up. At the very least, it changed them. And in Nolan’s case, it made him harder and closed him off to the hearts and flowers kind of love she hoped to find someday. He was surviving, in his own way.

“I need to know what you taste like,” Nolan murmured.

She blinked up at him, her eyes still searching his. There was so much she was unsure about, but the electricity buzzing between them wasn’t one of them.

He leaned forward, moving slowly, and brought his lips to hers. Hesitating for just a moment, as if to give her a chance to decide, Nolan’s warm breath ghosted over her mouth. Lifting up onto her tip toes, Lacey touched her lips to his. With one hand stroking her jaw, his other came to settle against her hip, his thumb running along the bare skin at the waistband of her jeans. Nolan pulled her body close, until she felt the hard ridge of him against her belly. He felt massive. Her lips parted in a silent gasp and he stroked his tongue against hers.

His mouth seemed made to fit over hers. And the skillful way he moved his tongue provoked thoughts of what other ways he could use that tongue. While her panties grew wet, and her breathing turned ragged, they kissed deeply for several minutes.

Her hands wandered, running over his firm biceps, and down the front of his shirt where rounded pecs waited invitingly under his shirt.

Sex rolled off of him in waves. No, not just sex. Fucking. Lacey was sure that being intimate with Nolan would be unlike any other experience she’d had. And that excited the hell out of her.

“God damn, woman,” he murmured breaking away from her lips.

Lacey couldn’t disagree. Everything about that kiss felt right. Backgrounds ceased to matter. Messy entanglements forgotten. When she was kissing Nolan, nothing mattered except getting even closer. More, her body begged.

“Just keep an open mind,” he said, tucking a stray lock of hair behind her ear.

Dirty Lies

OCT 12, 2015

Bad boy drummer Aidan Burke of Dirty B takes center stage in New York Times bestselling author Emma Hart’s hotly anticipated follow-up to Dirty Past and Dirty Secret!

Aidan Burke is the perfect rebound guy for Jessie Law after she catches her asshole ex-boyfriend with his hands down some other girl’s pants. The world-famous drummer of Dirty B isn’t shy about his preference for no-strings-attached relationships, so when she meets him on a night out, she takes him up on his simple proposal: One night of fun. Hot sex. Zero expectations.

But Dirty B’s tour is over, and they’re back in South Carolina—which means running into Aidan more often than Jessie would like.

When Aidan saves Jessie from her ex-boyfriend by insisting the two are dating, the band’s manager convinces them to keep up the charade in the hopes of re-inventing Dirty B’s image as lovable bad boys, as opposed to d-bags. Now all Aidan and Jessie have to do is put on a very obvious, very public show to convince everyone their affection is real.

But pretending to be in a relationship is harder than it seems. Aidan’s hordes of jealous fans have no problem bombarding Jessie with threatening messages online—and worse. And things only get more complicated when Jessie realizes her feelings for Aidan may not be so fake after all. Can Jessie live with the risks? And is Aidan willing to let her?

Review

I absolutely loved the deliciously dirty talking Aidan Burke, and Jessie Law is the perfect girl for him because she refuses to allow him to control her, and she is more than happy to put Aidan in his place.

Every lie begins with truth.

Every legend was borne of reality.

All readers have probably seen the effects of a lie and the fact that it can instantly fester and spread is not unusual, and that is exactly what happens when Aidan forces Jessie to pretend to be his girlfriend. But what happens when small glimpses of the truth sneak into the lie – can the truth ever out power the lie or is there no way to push past the deceit solidified so much so that no one will believe anything but the fabrication?

The deceitfulness of lies and the mess they make is a huge topic of discussion in Dirty Lies…but another just as important issue is what crazy fans and online keyboard warriors do to the lives of the famous and those they love, and depending on how the celebrities are able to handle the chaos/gossip/altered facts determines whether or not they can be in a relationship and make it or watch it burn out due to lack of trust and understanding.

I love enemies to lovers’ storylines, especially when there’s a rich history between the hero and heroine. This is exactly the situation that Aidan and Jessie find themselves in when he steps in to help her and ends up setting social media on fire, which in turn, brings out Jessie’s bitch mode, which I adore, and sends them down a rather tumultuous path of secrets, lies, and hard truths.

The way Emma Hart plays out Aidan and Jessie’s fake relationship is brilliant because it’s completely realistic, and as the saying goes, there’s a thin line between love and hate, which definitely proves true for these two.

There are multiple layers to how Aidan and Jessie feel about each other and because Hart allows both of their perspectives to be heard, readers understand Jessie’s concerns, Aidan’s outlook, and the reasons they’re both denying how much they actual work.

Jessie Law is one of my favorite heroines because she doesn’t give a rat’s ass about what other people think about her and she has never been afraid to do her own thing. She’s a passionate woman who is easily wound up by Aidan, but she also knows how to give it right back to him.

Dirty Lies is a phenomenal read; it’s sexy, angsty, and dirty, which is a perfect combination – one that Emma Hart continues to master!

One more Burke boy to go!!

“You think I’m gonna take you back to my mom’s?”

She opens her mouth then closes it again. “Ah.”

“Ah.” I smile, gently stroking my thumb across her thigh. “So? Where to? Because you don’t look so sure about either.”

“I’m not,” she admits softly. “But hey, I’m already gonna get shit tomorrow because I left with you, so I may as well earn a damn good reply. That and I’m technically out for a rebound fuck.”

“So you’re using me,” I murmur, moving closer and touching my lips to her jaw.

“Only as much as you are me,” she breathes as I kiss my way around the curve of her jaw to the corner of her mouth. I linger there for a moment, waiting for her to make the move, because I’m an asshole, but not that much of an asshole.

“Hotel,” she whispers, her breath hitching. “Definitely the hotel.”

“Hotel,” I say loudly, reaching to knock on the partition. “The usual.” One loud rap and the car buzzes as the engine comes to life.

“The usual?”

“The usual,” I repeat.

Jessie’s face turns into mine, her brows drawn together and her lips barely a breath from mine.

And, sweet shit, I’ve been fucking waiting for this all night.

I kiss her, our lips molding together as I slip my hand around the back of her neck and her hair twines around my fingers and she grasps the collar of my shirt tightly. Her leg muscles tense as my mouth moves over hers.

She tastes like fucking cosmos. Sweet but tangy, sharp but fruity. Just like her. And it’s so fucking delicious that I pull her farther into me so I can feel more, taste more, of her. She curves her body into me, one leg lifting and her heel brushing against my calf. I take my hand from between her legs and grab her hip, maneuvering her on top of me. Her knees fall to either side of my hips and she gasps as her center pushes against my already hard cock, straining against my jeans.

The slight part of her lips gives me the opening I need to flick my tongue against hers. I do it, tentatively, waiting for her to respond, handing her control I know won’t last.

When she’s on top of me this way, her pussy against my cock with only two pathetic layers of fabric between us, my own control is severely waning.

I wrap my arm around her as she wraps her hand around my neck and grasps my hair and kisses me, tiny moans leaving her mouth. If I could flip her onto her back and get the driver out of the car and fuck her right here on the backseat, I would. I would lift that sinfully tight dress, tug her panties away by whatever means necessary, and bury myself inside her before she could utter my name.

“Sir? We’re here.”

By day, New York Times and USA Today bestselling New Adult author Emma Hart dons a cape and calls herself Super Mum to two beautiful little monsters. By night, she drops the cape, pours a glass of whatever she fancies – usually wine – and writes books.

Emma is working on Top Secret projects she will share with her followers and fans at every available opportunity. Naturally, all Top Secret projects involve a dashingly hot guy who likes to forget to wear a shirt, a sprinkling (or several) of hold-onto-your-panties hot scenes, and a whole lotta love.

She likes to be busy – unless busy involves doing the dishes, but that seems to be when all the ideas come to life.

TRANSLUCENT Book 1

Sometimes you reach a point where you just can’t take any more — a breaking point, some call it.

The day I watched my husband murder the woman who was pregnant with his child, my point didn’t just break, it exploded like a full magazine’s worth of hollow points firing through the barrel of a fully-automatic AK-47.

Literally.

I am no longer his American Princess, nor am I his slave.

Now, I’m a murderer in hiding. My name was Bryleigh Carter Oliveira, and that was my story.

Translucent is one woman’s story of breaking free, starting over, and learning to trust again through willful submission.
