Up in Smoke is the second book in Tessa Bailey’s Crossing the Line series, and just like its predecessor, it includes a possessive alpha male hero who would do anything to protect his woman and a feisty heroine who asserts her independence and overcomes her struggles.

Connor and Erin’s attraction is instantaneous, but the relationship they form is anything but normal due to Erin’s inability to be touched. But despite Erin’s issues, Connor is steadfast in caring for and protecting her, and they seem to comfort and free each other from their demons just by simply being together. It’s not an easy relationship due to exterior circumstances and the risks that surround their new lifestyle, and Erin definitely tests Connor’s control numerous times, but only Connor can heal Erin and allow her to feel the extent of his feelings through the power of touch and only Erin can soothe the beast inside Connor and his need for destruction.

I’ll admit it took a bit to get into this one and truly understand Connor’s need for Erin because, for a while, it felt like Connor was more frustrated and out of control than anything else, but once their back stories were given, the comfort and freedom they found in each other made more sense. I still would have liked a bit more insight into Connor’s struggles and how Erin truly soothed him, but as I continued reading their story and witnessed Connor’s drive to ensure Erin’s protection and prove his want and need for her, I couldn’t help but fall in love with this couple and feel for Erin’s situation both before and during the story.

Up in Smoke is an intriguing and sexy read that will have readers swooning over Connor and rooting for Erin to not allow her demons to control her and find the comfort and freedom in Connor that she needs and deserves. Erin is in no way a weak heroine, but she’s stronger with Connor by her side; he soothes her in a way that no one else can, and with everything that she had to endure, she needs him in her corner.

As if her thoughts had made him appear, Connor strode into the courthouse. Her pulse started beating double time, her stomach muscles tightening. Good Lord, the man was a fucking panty dropper. She’d only been away from him for a few hours and it felt like years since she’d experienced his presence. In jeans and a fitted gray T-shirt that molded to his muscles like her hands itched to do, he personified confidence and authority. Hot, rugged male. His gaze connected with hers immediately and darkened. She thought back to that morning when he’d dressed in the early morning light, his abs flexing as he pulled the shirt over his head. His erection barely contained by his boxers. She’d never been one to beg for anything, but she’d been seconds from offering him her mouth. Pleading for the privilege of sucking him off.

Conner shook his head at her with a sexy half smile on his face, as if he could read her thoughts across the room. He stopped at the metal detector and walked through after the security guard beckoned him forward. When the woman grabbed her wand and instructed him to raise his hands in the air, something ugly reared its head deep inside her. The detector hadn’t even beeped. Appreciation spread in her belly like honey. He hadn’t chided her for her behavior or apologized to the woman on her behalf. Instead he’d given the impression they were on their way to get married, appeasing her jealousy in one fell swoop. “That’s right.” She sauntered toward the elevator. “There’s vows to be exchanged. Rings to put on fingers. Shit like that.”

She glanced behind her to find Connor staring at her ass as she walked, so she put a little swing in her hips and savored his groan. Damn. She’d definitely never had this much fun at a courthouse.

A moment later, she and Connor stepped into an empty elevator. She hit the button for the top floor even though the clerk was on the first, and leaned back against the wall, looking up at him through her eyelashes. “How was your morning, baby? Was it worth leaving me in bed, all hot and bothered for you?”

“Fuck no, it wasn’t.” He crooked a big finger at her. “Climb on up here.”

I have always had a passion for storytelling, whether it be through lyrics or bed time stories with my sisters. I wanted to be an actress growing up so I could live many roles but I learned early on that my mind was too active… I would want to change the script.I would watch films and think of ways they could have improved the story if they took another direction so i thought it best that i tell my own.

My mum would always have a book in her hand when I was young and passed on her love for reading, inspiring me to venture into writing my own. I tend to have a darker edge to my writing. Not all love stories are made from light, some are created in darkness but are just as powerful and worth telling.

When I’m not lost in the world of characters I love spending time with my family. I’m a mum and that comes first in my life but when I do get down time I love attending music concerts or reading events with my younger sister.

Sinning has never felt so good or dirty!

The definition of carnal is not spiritual; merely human; temporal; worldly – there’s nothing divine or transformative about a carnal act. But whose opinion is that and how can an abstract idea be quantified?

Yes, Father Tyler Bell took a vow, but it was one taken due to quilt, regret, and powerlessness. But with the indication of Tyler’s past sexual experience, it seems as though he’s always been an extremely sexual man, and credence is given to that fact with his initial internal musings about Poppy Danforth – the female penitent who makes him question his promise to his sister and the vow he took to the Catholic religion.

Father give father for I have sinned and sinned and sinned.

Once Tyler and Poppy give into their mutual attraction and need to know one another on a carnal level, there’s no turning back for either of them, and regardless of how conflicted both of them are – Tyler due to his vow and Poppy due to her struggles to allow Tyler to destroy his life – they can’t get enough of each other, and while most of their interactions are of a sexual nature, there’s a depth to their connection that refuses to be broken despite the knowledge of how wrong it is in the eyes of the church and Father Bell’s congregation.

Sierra Simone creates such dynamic characters in Tyler and Poppy. There’s so much to understand about them, and Simone reveals who are they at their core slowly throughout the story, allowing readers to perhaps form their own opinions and criticisms about them and then forcing us to reanalyze our positions and understand their choices despite our belief systems and contrary attitudes.

Priest is a phenomenal erotic read, and while there is an abundance of steamy scenes, the book is about so much more than the taboo sex. It’s about a man trying to do right by his sister…it’s about a woman trying to break free from the constraints of her family name and the position she put herself in due to her decisions…it’s about a man and a woman finding what they need in each other and saying the hell with the consequences because the only way they truly feel alive is with each other.

Belle Aurora is one of my absolute favorite authors because she easily weaves wit, sass, steam, and angst together in her storylines, creating entertaining and enticing reads, and her newest release, About Last Night… continues to showcase her talented writing.

I loved Mia/Maya from the start. She’s a heroine a lot of readers will be able to identify with…she’s quirky and innocent. She’s shy and doesn’t really know how to talk to guys. But she’s also intelligent and independent; she wants to be able to stand on her own without her brother’s help because it will prove to her and him that she’s stronger than he gives her credit for. She’s had her eye on her brother’s best friend, Matt Quinn, for awhile now; he’s the perfect guy for what Mia needs, and she’s determined to have him.

For five years, Quinn has worked for DFT as an escort, and he loves his life. He knows how to please women, and he prides himself on satisfying every client. He’s sexy, smooth talking, and he knows his way around a female body. But what he didn’t expect is starting a friendship with a client before he even meets her – a relationship that is simply an exchange of words, but through those discussions, Maya and Quinn get to know each other and find themselves anticipating one another’s texts and phone calls. I love how Belle writes the progression of Maya and Quinn’s relationship, keeping in mind the shy person that Maya is. She’s not going to be one to jump into a face to face meeting right off the bat, so Belle starts their interactions off slowly, which fits Maya’s character perfectly. Getting both Mia and Quinn’s perspectives easily conveys the mixed feelings they both have as their friendship turns to more; their internal musings show the confusion they both feel and what’s at stake for both of them if/when they continue to see where this is going between the two of them.

I absolutely loved About Last Night… The secondary characters are just as amazing as Mia and Quinn, and Harry definitely needs to get his own book because he deserves his happy ending. Mia and Quinn grow individually and as a couple throughout the book, and I love the power that Mia has over Quinn, especially since she doesn’t believe someone like her could get someone like him when she’s exactly the person he needs.

Mia and Quinn’s story is sweet, sexy, and must read!
