Synopsis

The boy who remembers everything.

I heard she is finally going home today. The brain is very powerful. Her mind is unable to handle the memories of what happened, so it blocked it out. As I watch her, I envy her. I wish I could forget, just wipe away all the ugly and the bad. I’m not as lucky as the pretty, lost girl.

I would gladly trade places with her. She has no idea how good forgetting can be.

The girl who forgot everything.

I’m going home today. There is nothing the hospital can do to help me remember the last three years. They say I was attacked, but I can’t help them find who it was. They say I’ll eventually regain my memories but, it takes time. What happens when you run out of time? Regaining my memory becomes a deadly game of life or death.

Excerpt

(Unedited Version. Subject to Change.)

Walking into my home could trigger everything I don’t remember. I was told the smallest stimulant could unlock what my brain is hiding from me. Part of me hopes it all comes back. The other part, the weak and scared part, wishes I will stay in blissful ignorance. I’m terrified the most to find out what my brain thought was too devastating for me to handle, choosing to block the memories instead.

“Well, Willow,” Dr. Mason says as he stands to shake my hand. “I will see you next week for our scheduled visit. Good luck.”

“Thank you,” I say to him with a polite smile. I am going to need all the luck I can get.

I leave his office and make my way through the quiet halls to the front reception area. My usual headache starts to form. To ease the throb, I rub my forehead with my fingers on my way to freedom. Only a few more feet and I am out of here for good. With my eyes closed, I slam right into a wall.

The wall is actually a man with a wide and firm chest. Large hands grip my shoulders to keep me from falling back from the impact. I tilt my head back, looking up to see his face. I’m short, even in my heels, but he has to be over six feet tall. A guy about my age glances down at me quickly with dark, brown eyes. When they finally focus on me, I feel my cheeks heat with embarrassment. I stand frozen as the stranger examines me, from head to toe, like some kind of obstacle that he’s trying to figure out.

He’s intimidating with strong facial features, black hair, and dark eyes. The way his stare drills into me makes me feel he can see all the secrets I can’t remember. His grip is firm and steady, holding my body only inches from his own. I can feel the warmth from his wide chest, and I can’t decide if it is fear or comfort washing over me. It’s a heat that spreads over my entire body, stunning me. The silence becomes suffocating, so I clear my throat and pull out of his hold.

“Sorry. I wasn’t paying attention,” I mumble as I slowly inch away from him. I worry I may have just ran into someone mentally unstable. I have seen people snap here for less and his glare looks unforgiving. His hard stare and tight jaw show no signs of forgiveness.

I step around him and keep walking, trying to shake the helpless and useless feelings eating at me. Heat creeps up my neck and to my face with embarrassment. I’m just a young girl that has no idea where she is going, whether it is in the hallway or in life. When I enter the receptionist area, Noah stands from the chair where he had been waiting. I quickly sign all the necessary paperwork and agree to keep my scheduled appointments.

Excerpt

I am completely overwhelmed. My core is on fire and I want so much to kiss him, to touch him. I feel sparks of electricity shoot through every fiber in my body and every nerve ending is screaming for release. I want his hands on me, all over me.

“Amare?”

I put my hands on his chest and push him away. He’s too close, making it hard to form a single thought. I take two steps to the side to put some distance between us so I can speak like a human, not a lust induced zombie. “Yes, they towed my car and it’s in their lot. I haven’t really spoken to them about it yet. I kind of fell asleep on them…”

His face clouds over and he says, “You kind of fell asleep on them? What. Does. That. Mean?” He pauses between each word and growls them at me.

“Jonas took me to see Doc Jordan and he gave me something for the pain, but because I hadn’t slept in days it made me sleepy. I think he ended up carrying me to their clubhouse.” I realize how all this must sound. If someone told me that exact same story, I would be thinking the worst.

“Did they touch you, Amare?” he growls at me, his eyes blazing with anger.

“No, no, no! In fact, Jonas put a guard on my door so no one would go near me. Not that they would. I was safe, Sal.” Something crosses his face and he stares at me so intently that I look away and stare at the floor.

He moves back into my space and lifts my head up. “Thank you for getting me coffee. Let’s go have breakfast and I’m buying. I think I shall keep you in my sights to make sure nothing else happens to you. I have never met a woman who allows herself to get into so many dangerous situations, in such a short space in time. You, my Amare, are a handful.” He moves away from me and does up his shirt, then grabs his jacket. He opens the door to his room and extends his arm. “Shall we?” he asks, offering me a smile that reveals his dimple. My core clenches again and I have to fight the urge to throw myself at him.

I come from a family of fighters. I always thought I’d follow in their shadows, becoming unstoppable in the ring. That changed the day I saved the life of a woman I loved, but could never have.

My brother hailed me as a hero, and my reward was a wheelchair.

Paralyzed, my life became an inescapable nightmare.

Until I met her.

Ash Mabie had a heart-stopping smile and a laugh that numbed the rage and resentment brewing inside of me. She showed me that even the darkest night still had stars, and it didn’t matter one bit that you had to lie in the weeds to see them.

I was a jaded asshole who fell for a girl with a knack for running away. I couldn’t even walk but I would have spent a lifetime chasing her.

Now, I’m on the ropes during the toughest battles of my life.

Fighting the shadows of our past.

Fighting to reclaim my future.

Fighting for her.

Fighting Shadows Excerpt

Prologue

Ash

“Where the fuck have you been?” a man’s voice growled as soon as I entered the conference room.

My eyes flashed to his for only a single second before I recognized them. The door had barely clicked behind me but I already wanted nothing more than to bolt. My heart raced and my mouth dried.

I had to get out of there.

“Um…” I stalled, giving myself time to formulate a plan.

“Sit. Down,” he ordered, pushing out the chair next to him, but there was no way I was getting that close.

“I’m good,” I said, taking a step backwards toward the door.

“Don’t even think about it,” he snapped. “I swear to God, if you so much as open that door…” His words may have trailed off, but the threat was clearly stated.

I swallowed hard, and slowly walked to the chair farthest away from him, perching on the very edge—waiting for just the right moment to escape.

He looked down at the name badge around my neck and quirked an eyebrow.

“Victoria?”

“You can call me Tori if it’s easier.” I tried to fake a smile, but it only seemed to infuriate him. He took several calming breaths, which did nothing to dampen the blaze brewing in his angry eyes.

“I’ve been looking for you, Ash.” He snarled my name.

“Oh, yeah? Well, mystery solved. Here I am.” I pushed back to my feet, but was halted when his fist pounded against the table. I jumped as my whole body flinched from the surprise.

When the room fell silent, I slowly looked back up to find him staring at me with a murderous glare. Even sitting down I could tell he was huge, and as he held my gaze, the tense muscles in his neck and shoulders strained against the cotton of his grey Henley. He blinked at me for several seconds before finding his voice again.

“You live in a homeless shelter,” he stated definitively, as if the words told a story all of their own.

And maybe they did.

“I work at a homeless shelter,” I quickly corrected.

Only he corrected me just as fast. “In exchange for a permanent place to live…In. A. Homeless. Shelter.” He enunciated every single syllable.

I looked away, because it was the truth.

A truth that I hated.

But the God’s honest truth nonetheless.

Tears welled in my eyes and I battled to keep them at bay.

My life was hard, but him being there made it infinitely harder. If I could just escape that room, I could disappear again. It wasn’t ideal, but neither was him showing up.

“I want you to leave.” I lied with all the false courage I could muster.

“I can’t do that. You stole something of mine.”

“Look, I don’t have your book anymore.”

A knowing smirk lifted one side of his mouth. “Liar,” he whispered, reaching into the chair beside him, revealing the tattered book and ceremoniously dropping it on the table.

My eyes went wide, and without a conscious thought, I dove across the table after it.

That was mine.

Not even he could have it.

Just as quickly as the book appeared, he snatched it away and grabbed my wrist.

I slid off the table and tried to pull my arm from his grasp. It was a worthless attempt though because even if he had suddenly released me, his blue eyes held me frozen in place.

“Three fucking years,” he seethed.

“I had to,” I squeaked out as the tears streamed down my cheeks.

“Three. Fucking. Years, Ash. You took something that belonged to me.” He released my arm and pushed to his feet.

My mouth fell open and a loud gasp escaped as he took two impossible steps forward.

Pinning me against the wall with his hard body, he lifted a hand to my throat and glided it up until his thumb stroked over my bottom lip. Using my chin, he turned my head, and dragged his nose up my neck, stopping at my ear.

Sucking in a deep breath, he released it on a gravelly demand. “And I want her back.”

My breath hitched.

I’d waited years to hear those words.

If only I could have trusted them.

“Flint, please.”

EXCERPT REVEAL: King by T.M. Frazier‏

king excerpt revea

Excerpt

“I hate the way you made me feel. Well, most of the time.” I spat. I was tired of dancing around the truth. “I hate the confusion you bring into my already confused life. I need this back and forth shit to end.” I took a deep breath. “I can’t take it anymore. You like me. You hate me. You like me. You want to kill me. You want to fuck me. You want me to stay. You want me to live.  My head is fucking spinning over here.” My buzz faded faster than the setting sun. “You should leave. I don’t want you here,” I added.

“I know. I don’t care.” King said.

“Oh, I’m fully aware that you don’t care. That I know.”

“You don’t know shit, Pup.” King barked.

“Oh yeah? So you didn’t just spend the entire night at the carnival all over me, saying sweet shit to me, making me feel like this stupid thing between us is something more than just a stupid thing, only to whip out your dick with someone else the very first chance you got? Go back to the fucking house, King. Go back to that girl. I hope she’s everything you wanted.”

“I can’t,” King said evenly.

“Why not? Seemed easy for you before.”

“Because, Pup, I can’t because I don’t want to. No matter how hard I try to fight this, I’m drawn to you. You think I like this back and forth shit? You think you’re the only one who’s fucking confused here?” He shook his head like he couldn’t believe the words that were coming out of his mouth. “I’m drawn to you,” he repeated turning my chin up to him.

“What do you expect? Am I supposed to fall at your feet and thank you for being ‘drawn to me’?” Not only was he confusing, he was fucking infuriating. “Drawn to me? You’re drawn to me! Well, let me just take off my fucking panties then, and let’s do this shit. Yeah, you were really drawn to me. Tell me something, KING. Do most first dates end with the guy getting sucked off by another girl? I mean, I’ve never been on one, so you tell me. I could be wrong here. Because if the answer is yes, then this date has gone fucking swimmingly!”

“I’m…FUCK! “You think you know everything but you don’t. All you do is run those pretty lips of yours and expect me to be able to just give into you!” King threw his hands up in the air. “You make me fucking crazy, you know that!” he shouted.

“I make YOU crazy? How the fuck do you think I feel? Most of the time I don’t know if you want to kill me or fuck me!” I screamed, every single word he spoke ignited my anger until it wasn’t something I could even begin to hold back.

King had the audacity to actually smile. He leaned forward and whispered seductively against my cheek, “Can’t I want both, Pup?”

I pulled back and stood up.

“NO! You can’t! And stop calling me, Pup. It’s a stupid fucking name. I’m not your fucking pet!”

I paced the dock. My rage was at a boiling point I couldn’t turn off. This was his fault. He’d made me into this lunatic.

King stood and grabbed my face with both hands, forcing me to look at him. “Yes you are,” he said, as he lowered his lips and brushed them softly against mine in a move so gentle, so unlike him, it took me a few seconds before I registered what was happening.

Then, my anger returned, in full force. Using both my hands, I pushed against his chest until he had no choice but to release me.

“Fuck you! You don’t want to keep me!” I shouted over my shoulder as I made my way to the front of the house and started down the gravel driveway. “Do you think I’m stupid? You wouldn’t be getting your jollies while I’m in the next room if it was me you wanted.”

A large hand grabbed my shoulder and spun me around.

“Let go of me!” I shouted.

“Listen, Pup. I’ve tried it your way. I tried gentle just now, but you didn’t listen. Now, we’re going to do it my way, and you’re going to fucking listen. Don’t make me have to cuff you again.” He warned.

RELEASE BLITZ: REVIEW, EXCERPT, AND GIVEAWAY: Coming Out by Lila Rose

 Coming Out Banner

Title: Coming Out

Author: Lila Rose

Series: Hawks MC Series, Book 4.5

Genre: Fiction/Humorous/Romance/Erotica
Cover Designer: Louisa at LM Creations
Release Date: June 4, 2015
 Add to Goodreads

Living a lie, Matthew ‘Mattie’ Alexander is exhausted. It’s not easy to keep up the pretence, the deceit, but it’s safer. Coming out to a world who so easily hate takes a courage he’s yet to find, so he pretends – pretends to be into women – pretends to love being a part of the university’s football team. It keeps him safe, hidden.

Until he meets Julian.

From the moment they first meet, Mattie knows life is about to change. He’s yet to determine if it is for the better or worse.

Living life through laughter, Julian is lonely. Without the jokes, the humour, he would be living on the edge of depression. Succumbing to his controlling father’s demands, Julian finds no joy in the path laid out before him.

Until he meets Mattie.

As soon as they cross paths, Mattie has the power to drive Julian’s man parts crazy with lust. But can lust be enough to help Mattie out of the closet, and guide Julian into a happier place?

Limits will be pushed. Rules will be broken. But it’s only together, that they will have the strength to overpower fear, fear of themselves and fear of others. Just how far are they willing to go in the aim of coming out?

It’s interesting the ways that people use humor and outlandish comments to hide the scars of their past and present. Meeting Julian in book one of Lila Rose’s Hawks Motorcycle Club series, I don’t think any reader would perceive his backstory to be what it is because Julian is a what you see is what you get kind of person/character. But the more I thought about him after reading Coming Out, Julian’s humorous and flirty mask fits his persona; it allowed him to cope at the time and then it became who he was, and I couldn’t love him more;)

Mattie has definitely been the strong and silent type in the previous stories, so I was glad to get inside his head and understand him better. For four years, he pretended to be someone he wasn’t, and he hated himself and those prejudicial bastards around him every minute of that time. But Mattie just needed the right guy to come along to accept him and show him where he belongs, and Julian is definitely that person. Lila Rose did a great job of illustrating Mattie’s fears and insecurities and providing the reasons behind his decision to stay in the closet so long and go along with the actions and attitudes of his teammates.

This is exactly what I wanted for Mattie and Julian’s story…although I have to admit, I never picked up on their age difference. I love that Julian never swayed from being who he is and that he helped Mattie feel safe enough to be himself as well. Mattie is a quiet hero, but I guess that makes sense since Julian talks enough for both of them;)

5+ Poison Apples

 Excerpt

Once Mattie turned his glacial glare back to me, I demanded, “What are you doing?”

His head jutted back. “What do you mean?”

Melissa stood beside me. I glanced at her to see she was smiling as she said, “He means, why did you interrupt their little…tomfoolery?”

He opened his mouth, closed it, only to open it again to say, “He shouldn’t want to…get with married men.”

“Why do you care what I do?”

He blanched, took a step back and closed his eyes. Once he took a deep breath, he opened them, his eyes warmer. “I shouldn’t,” he uttered.

He shouldn’t what? Care?

My heart thumped, smiled and screamed: he cared.

Why?

The man in front of me confused me more than men who wore sandals and socks together.

RELEASE BLITZ: EXCERPT AND GIVEAWAY: Double Tap by Lani Lynn Vale

Double Tap_release banner
Title: Double Tap
Series: Code-11 KPD SWAT #2
Author: Lani Lynn Vale
Genre: Romantic Suspense
Release Date: June 4, 2015

Nico met the love of his life when he was seventeen.

Immediately, he realizes that the gap in their ages is too significant to make a move on her until she’s legal in the eyes of the law. So he joins the United States Navy, killing time until he can come home to her again.

But a tragedy strikes while Georgia is alone and vulnerable, and with no other recourse, Georgia leaves, disappearing without a trace.

After months of searching, he finds her, but quickly realizes that she needs the time to herself to work out her problems on her own.

So he leaves her be, knowing that if she ever felt anything for him, she’d come back home to him.

But it takes her years to return, and in those years, Nico changes, too.

He’s seen too much. Done too much. Lost too much.

He lives his life as a SWAT officer for KPD, goes through the motions of everyday life, but only as half a man. And not even the good half. The US military saw to that.

When the two finally come back together, one question remains. Will she love him as the man he is now, or leave him because he’s not the same man he used to be?

“Hey, this is Nico.  I wanted to see if you could come clean my house later this week.  I’ve got a bit of a mess going on right now, and you know how I am.  Let me know when you can do it.  Thanks, bye,” I said to Candice’s voicemail.

I hung up and glared at my still dirty floors.

That was the third time I’d called her in three days.

“At least it wasn’t the thirty fifth like someone I know,” I snarled as I threw down my phone and went outside.

Feeling the need for an exhausting workout, I went outside and gathered up my axe and wedge, then took them to the large pile of wood I’d stacked in a heap at the corner of the house.

A tree had fallen a couple of weeks ago during a storm, and I’d cut it up with my chainsaw, leaving the large chunks to cut up for fire wood at a later date.

I’d been doing it nearly an hour when I heard wheels crunch on the gravel road that led up to my driveway.

I didn’t turn around.

I knew whom it was as soon as I heard the engine whine.

So the little coward had decided to finally show after three fucking days.

Imagine that.

I felt her stare, but I never stopped chopping the wood.

Set the wood up on the stump.  Swing back.  Strike hard and fast.

Thwack.

I repeated it over and over, waiting on her to say something.

It took her a long time.

Thwack.

I counted thirty five pieces before she finally spoke.

“I’m mad at you,” she said softly.

She was crying.

I hated when she cried.

I didn’t stop, however.

I just kept going, waiting for what she had to say next.  The only outward sign that I was listening was the bunch of my shoulders.

“You should’ve told me about her suicide the night she did it,” she said tearfully.

I whirled on her.  “Is that right?  And how exactly did you expect me to do that?  I fucking called you seventeen times that night, and left you at least a fuckin’ million text messages.  I know how to take a fucking hint.”

Her eyes widened at the vehemence in my voice, and she took a step away.

I was on a fucking roll, though, and really let her have it.

“All you had to do was be understanding.  If you can’t handle this, what makes you think you can handle it when I have to take down a goddamned kid because he pointed a gun at his big sister?”  I asked irately.

I walked past her, going inside to the kitchen to grab a drink.

She followed.

I heard her stomping feet behind me as I walked up to the fridge and pulled out a bottle of water, twisting the cap off viciously.

“I don’t like it when you’re right.  It makes me mad when I have to admit that I’m wrong.  I know I was wrong, but you were wrong, too,” she snarled.

I looked at her incredulously.  “You’re so full of shit.  You piss me the fuck off.”

She crossed her arms.  “Well, maybe if I’m so full of shit, and I piss you off so fuckin’ much, we shouldn’t be together.”

I shook my head at her and gave her a droll look.

“We fight.  We yell.  You throw shit and I glare at you.  That’s just how we are.  We don’t have the type of relationship where it’s all hearts and goddamned flowers.  We have the type of relationship that’s real.  We fight hard, and make up harder.  And you need to get over your fucking snit, because I’m so fucking hot for you that I might not be nice when you really need it,” I growled in Georgia’s face.

She tried to push me away from where I was pinning her to the wall, but she didn’t get me far.  In fact, it was only the barest of millimeters, and that was only because I didn’t want her to hurt herself when she slammed her wrists against my chest.

“I fucking love you, Georgia.  Get the fuck over it,” I yelled.

I’m a married mother of three. My kids are all under 5, so I can assure you that they are a handful. I’ve been with my paramedic husband now for ten years, and we’ve produced three offspring that are nothing like us. I live in the greatest state in the world, Texas.

Book Two in the Consolation Duet

I fell in love with Liam only to be left shattered into a million pieces. Again. The idea of being without him cripples me but the reality is, he’s gone.

He doesn’t understand and I can’t make him.

If only he’d see the conviction behind my words—then he’d still be here.

Excerpt #1

Time isn’t something I ever thought much about.

It ebbs and flows, but it never changes. I can’t make it stop—no matter how much I want to. There’s no way to rewind the clock or halt it. In this moment, all I want is to make the world stop and go back to when I was happy and ready to tackle the world. Just two short minutes ago, there was no worry about how my day would go. I was going away with the man I love, the one who healed me. But time isn’t my friend. It slaps me in the face and laughs as I stand here wondering how the hell any of this is happening. I don’t want to move forward, and I sure as hell don’t want to slow it down.

Excerpt #2

His voice is thick and husky as he refuses to break from my eyes. “Tell me you’re real.”

“I’m real.”

“Tell me you’re really here.”

“I’m here with you.” My hand rises, and I press my thumb to his lips. “I’m here for you. I’m here with only you. I need you so much.”

His eyes close as I rub my thumb, savoring the rough feel on my skin.

“Stay with me,” he pleads.

Liam’s hands rest on each side of my face as I drag him down further. “There’s nowhere else I want to be.” Our lips meet, and I lose myself.

Liam wasn’t supposed to be my happily ever after.

He wasn’t even on my radar.

He was my husband’s best friend—forbidden.

But my husband is dead and I’m alone. I ache for him and I reach for Liam.

One night with Liam changed everything. Now I have to decide if I truly love him or if he’s just the consolation prize.
