SIDELINED EMMA HART AMAZON KINDLE EBOOK COVER (1)

Synopsis

Three people. Three motives. Three reasons.

When the game leaves the field in the second book in the USA Today bestselling BY HIS GAME series and mixes with sex, lies, and betrayal, the future isn’t the only thing on the line…

Macey Kelly has sworn off men. Unless they’re going to zip in and out of her apartment—and her vagina—quicker than they can give her an orgasm, she’s not interested. Finding out her boyfriend of three years got her cousin pregnant was a total confidence knock. Luckily for Macey, confidence is

something she has in abundance, so all Mitch’s asshole move did was make her pretty cynical toward men.

The last thing Jack Carr needs at the start of the season is for a dark-haired, sexy as sin, gyspyesque beauty to be consuming his thoughts. Football is his life, which leaves no time for girls. Unless they’re the love ‘em and leave ‘em girls. Becoming one of the best running backs the league has ever seen by racking up the yards is his top priority… not bedding Macey Kelly, despite her affinity for blow jobs and total sexual abandon.

Avoiding each other is the perfect solution, but when your best friends are in a serious living together kind of relationship, that isn’t always an option. Sometimes, sex on tap is the easiest option. And the sweetest.

Until Mitch shows up with a bombshell that could shatter Macey’s perfectly carved out life. It’s been a year, but he isn’t giving her up, not now he has a chance at winning her back. And he knows her buttons. Every single one of them.

Unfortunately for him, Jack Carr isn’t a loser. The star running back has his eye on the Vince Lombardi—and on Macey. But seeing her hanging between them both isn’t something he’s down with, not when he discovers why she’s so against anything more-ish, as she puts it.Macey quickly realizes she’s the ball being passed between two desperate yet opposing teams, and that only one of them can score the touchdown. But will the winner be the guy she lived with and loved for three years, or will the winner be the guy who understands her and makes her body come alive?

In this game, someone will be sidelined, and calling the play isn’t always as easy as it seems.

(SIDELINED is a full-length, standalone novel. It’s not necessary to read BLINDSIDED before this book, but it is advised.)

male jawline in sepia the depth of field is shallow, lips and chin are in focus

Review

Macey Kelly and Jack Carr have both sidelined themselves from relationships; they’re content with hook ups and one night stands, removing themselves from the possibility of getting their hearts broken again because they’ve already endured that pain and have no intention of going back to that feeling anytime soon.

But Macey and her bitchy, tell it like it is attitude and Jack and his magic cock find themselves drawn to each other in a way that makes them move beyond the one and done scenario and enter into an agreement where they give their bodies solely to each other, agreeing that if any emotions enter the dynamics of their sexual playtime then they end it and move on because they have no business having feelings for one another when neither of them have dealt with their exes and gained the closure needed to feel whole and ready to commit to someone else.

Macey and Jack’s connection, though, is smoldering and regardless of how much their heads tell them to cut ties before either gets in too deep, their need for each other makes it easier said than done, and even when one of their exes comes back into the picture threatening to sideline their arrangement, Jack’s competitiveness takes over, and he’s playing to win.

Sidelined is another fantastic read from the dirty and creative mind of Emma Hart. In creating Macey and Jack and hooking up two characters who are almost identical in behavior and attitude since having their hearts broken, Hart does a great job of illustrating the repercussions for future relationships of the baggage that comes with being cheated on by someone who was once everything. Both Macey and Jack talk a big game and deliver on giving their bodies to each other, but when it comes to being able to give their heart, it’s a whole different story – one that Macey is deeply conflicted on and stuck in her head about.  The what ifs and the whys are the scenarios that hold both Macey and Jack back and neither of them do a very good job of dealing with those issues, which allows for doubt and complicated feelings to enter into the mix of their sexified arrangement.

I have to admit, at times, both Macey and Jack’s decisions made me want to throttle them, and I couldn’t quite grasp why Macey allowed her douchey ex back in her life, but when there’s so much history and a necessity to understand the truth, it does make sense that the need for knowing could possibly lead to poor choices.

Macey and Jack’s story is an incredibly hot and fast paced read. Jack is one smooth and filthy talking alpha male whose magic cock could lure anyone into his bed, and Macey is his perfect match because she gives as good as she gets both in and out of the bedroom.

Sidelined is a fabulous addition to Hart’s By His Game series, and I can’t wait for Book 3, Reid’s!

Excerpt

“You’re not goin’ anywhere, baby.” He steps closer, his fingers twitching, his breath ghosting across my neck. “At least, you ain’t fuckin’ moving until you’ve told me why you’re avoiding me.”

“Isn’t it obvious? You and I are cut from the same cloth, Jack. We don’t do the post-sex thing.”

“Yet here we are.”

“It’s unfortunate.”

“That what you call it?” he laughs, low and husky.

“Yep.” I drink.

“Put the drink down, M,” he whispers. “It’s fucking with you.”

“Really? I thought that was you fucking with me,” I respond, turning to him and pressing a hand against his chest. “What the hell are you doing here?”

Like, right here. Literally.

“It’s my best friend’s birthday.” He smirks. “Why’ve you been staring at me all night like you wanna suck and bite my cock simultaneously?”

“I assure you it was the latter.”

“Sure it was.” Jack steps closer to me again, and I grab my glass with the hand closest to him so I don’t grab his ass or something, ‘cause, shit. He has a sweet-as-hell ass.

“It was.” I drink. Again. Where the hell are my girls? “I feel like dancing.” I finish the glass and twist my body away from his.

His hand finally falls from me as I stalk toward and then down the stairs. I slip into the moving crowd, but I’ve barely moved my hips when two large, strong hands clasp me and tug me backward. The wall of muscle my back slams into is solid, and I exhale on a whoosh even as I close my fingers against the ones clasping my hips.

“Nice try, baby,” Jack says into my ear. “Run if you want. I’m a running back. I’ll chase you and catch you every fuckin’ time.”

“Sounds like a promise you can’t keep, doll,” I reply, my breath catching when he moves my hips against his.

“Sounds like a promise you’re afraid of.”

Blindsided Synopsis:

From Emma Hart, the New York Times bestselling author of the Game series, comes a brand new series where the game is realer, the tension is tighter, the sex is hotter, and the stakes are the highest of all…

Two people. Two agendas. Two games.

What happens when the out-there It-Boy of football meets the secret It-Girl of fashion?

As the daughter of Hollywood’s sweetheart, Leah Veronica can’t even buy a coffee without finding her face on a magazine stand, so it’s no wonder she’s launching her first fashion line in secret. With it debuting at New York Fashion Week in just under a month, extra time in the spotlight is the last thing she needs.

The son of the best quarterback the league has ever seen, filling legendary shoes as the L.A. Vipers’ quarterback was inevitable for Corey Jackson. So was meeting Leah Veronica—the first girl to hand him his ass without putting a hair out of place.

Getting the handsome, prickly blonde into his bed becomes his number one goal. But getting the sexy, over-confident footballer the hell away from her becomes Leah’s—at least until she realizes the best way to do that is to give him what he wants.

If only it was that simple.

When Corey discovers who she is, and private photos of Hollywood’s finest find their way online, everything they thought they knew is thrown into disarray.

And when secrets are exposed and hearts are shattered, they have to figure out if they’ve been blindsided by love or reality, and if it’s worth running the extra yard to win the game they never meant to play.

Excerpt

“I broke a nail!” I screamed as pain shot up my finger.
“No!” Kane cried.
Multiple footsteps pounded down the hallway and then bodies burst into Kane’s bedroom. “What?” All his brothers hollered as they piled through the doorway.
Kane pointed a trembling hand at me. “Her nail! She broke her nail!”
With a perplexed look I looked at Kane then to the brothers who all gasped and flung their hands over their mouths. They all gripped onto furniture, or onto one another to stay upright.
I was so confused. I had no fucking idea what was going on.
None.
“Your nail?” Alec screeched.
Nico placed his hands on the side of his head and shook it from side to side. “Anything but your nail!”
Ryder rushed over to me and grabbed the hand I was cradling and thoroughly examined it, and when he saw confirmation that my nail was gone, he whimpered. “It’s gone. Gone forever!”
“No!” Kane wailed, fell back onto his bed, and flung his arms over his face. “Why did it have to her nail? Why, God? WHY?”
I glared at Kane, then his brothers.
The bastards were taking the piss out of me, and my broken nail.
“I hate you all.” I said then turned and walked out of the room.
I made it half way down the stairs before I heard the eruption of belly rumbling male laughter, and even though it pleased me greatly that they were smiling again, I hated that it was at my expense.
“Bloody brothers,” I grumbled.

Dove Glitch is embarrassed about everything above her knees and below her belly button. When she has to fill a delicate, embarrassing prescription the last thing she needs is a sexy-as-hell (and brand spanking new) pharmacist behind the counter.

Johnson Fitzwell’s first day of his dream career also happens to coincide with the exact moment Dove needs her feminine meds filled. His glorious voice is way too loud–as in, he should be counting down the hits with Ryan Seacrest kind of loud. Thanks to Johnson’s handsome face and gorgeous jaw line, Dove dives headlong into her waking nightmare and asks for a vagina-scented cream.

How could she not fall for him? Dove’s only active goal now is to get Johnson to kiss her right on the lips. Either set. However, his horrible girlfriend is one of many obstacles preventing her from making that fantasy a reality. When Dove defends Johnson in the most unhygienic, unconventionally gross way in the middle of a crowded restaurant, their tender, slightly tantric relationship is off to a galloping, farting start.

Each print copy of this book will be dipped in holy water by my mom, and glared at by my father as he purses his lips. Neither will help. So, drop your pants and turn to the left and cough. I hope you’re not allergic to latex, because it’s time to fill your prescription. Anally.

Review

I can’t even begin to explain or wrap my brain around what I just finished reading. I tried to explain some of the events in the text to my husband, and he just looked at me cross-eyed and then ignored me! As I read, all I kept thinking was it felt like I was watching a raunchy sitcom with a plethora of rude and crude comments; you know the one where you keep asking yourself why you’re still watching it, but you can’t seem to change the channel or stop focusing on the events as they play out in front of you because it’s as if you are enchanted by the crazies, and with a book it’s even better because you get to decide what all of the characters look like and envision exactly what goes down when Dove and her crew of misfits find themselves in their precarious positions.

I have to say that my reactions while reading Dove’s story ranged from red hot cheeks from feeling Dove’s embarrassment to aghast noises as every awkward and inappropriate moment you can possibly imagine plays out in deliberate vividness. I wanted to grab Dove and hide her away, hoping that just maybe her foot in mouth disease would be cured and her internal monologue would no longer be what actually comes out of her mouth to those around her. But, of course, I couldn’t do that, so I found myself entranced by Dove’s disturbing attempts to sexify herself for Johnson in real life as well as THE Twitter and the play by play of the train wreck that is Duke as well as the strangely entertaining, in a rather scary kind of way, antics of Mr. and Mrs. Anastasia.

I would so love to meet all of these characters in person. I would grab a bowl of popcorn and a pen and paper to write down their running commentary because it’s all of the things you would never expect to be spoken aloud, but it’s right there, and you can’t help but blush and duck your head as it’s delivered.

I can only imagine what Ms. Anastasia has in store for her readers in Book 2. I hope there’s more from Duke’s perspective because as inappropriate that he is, I find myself rooting for the guy because at least he’s honest and real!

A complimentary copy was provided by the author in exchange for an honest review.

Oh God. We’re talking about me being naked, in the shower with cooter cream. Please world, end. Kill me.

“I know it’s not soap. I just… if it’s scented… I can’t do scented. Flowers and stuff like that. Fruit-flavored soaps make… things… burnish.” She could tell from the peeks at his face Mr. Fitzwell had never stepped foot in bath and lotion store, wanting to try the array of fun fragrances. Nor had he purchased Peppermint Candy shower gel, foamed up his nether regions, and felt like he had dipped them in lava. Dove crossed and uncrossed her legs at the memory.

Mr. Fitzwell seemed concerned. “Okay, just a heads-up. It’s definitely not good to put any fruits or plant life near your genitals.” He made a V with his hands and formed his own pretend vagina in front of his pants.

Dove covered her eyes and tried to defend herself because now she could hear the sickly older woman beating her supporters with a purse.

Dove’s mumbling got louder with her embarrassment. “I don’t put weird things down… there. Just make sure that the cream’s vagina-scented. Just plain. For vaginas.” She kept her eyes on the counter.

There are a lot of eyes in Debra Anastasia’s house in Maryland. First, her own creepy peepers are there, staring at her computer screen. She’s made two more sets of eyes with her body, and the kids they belong to are amazing. The poor husband is still looking at her after 17 years of marriage. At least he likes to laugh. Then the freaking dogs are looking at her—six eyeballs altogether, though the old dog is blind. And the cat watches her too, mostly while knocking stuff off the counter and doing that internal kitty laugh when Deb can’t catch the items fast enough.
In between taking care of everything those eyes involve, Debra creates pretend people in her head and paints them on the giant, beautiful canvas of your imagination. What an amazing job that is. The stories hit her hard while driving the minivan or shaving her legs, especially when there’s no paper and pen around. In all of the lies she writes hides her heart, so thank you for letting it play in your mind.
Debra is eternally grateful to Omnific Publishing, which has now published five of her books: two in the Seraphim Series and three in the Poughkeepsie Brotherhood Series, as well as her novella, Late Night with Andres. That one is special because 100% of the proceeds go to breast cancer research. (So go get it right now, please!)
You can find her at DebraAnastasia.com and on Twitter @Debra_Anastasia. But be prepared…

Excerpt

He bites his bottom lip and grimaces. “Fuck!” He growls out to the trees above him and then rolls his shoulders to dissipate some of the stress I see settling there. “Semantics aren’t an excuse. An omission is the same as lying Haddie, but you’re missing the point entirely. It’s not whether it was a lie or not. It’s so damn far from that. It’s you using the sex we’ve had to numb yourself when it should do the exact opposite. It should light your body on fire and burrow so deep under your skin that all you think about is the next time you can have me…because fuck if that’s not what you’ve done to me. So I call your bluff. I’ll keep calling it every fucking day until you admit you want me, that being with me does that to you too…but you won’t will you?” I just remain still, face impassive, body raging with emotion beneath the surface. “You’d rather stand there and tell me you prefer the numb, the void, the nothing, than admit you need me.”

His eyes have their own language as we stare at each other, the power of his words bringing tears to my eyes and knocking the words from my lips. “I was just doing what I thought was best, protecting everyone from more hurt, more everything.” And I hate the numb, I scream silently. I hate it so fucking much that every time we touch you make me feel so alive I realize how dead I’ve felt inside over the past year.

I don’t know why I don’t tell him the rest. Like if I do then I’m just sealing my fate by Murphy’s fucking Law so I keep quiet.

“Really? That’s all you’ve got for me? Next time make sure your eyes and your lips match up City because you’re just adding insult to injury right now. Your refusal to answer is infuriating. Need me Haddie. Use me as your goddamn emotional punching bag or your real one for that matter but fucking need me. I’m not some schmuck who’s going to bolt at the first rough patch and the fact that you still don’t see that is a crock.” He blows out a loud breath, jaw clenched, anger palpable. “I’m so fucking pissed but I’m also so fucking mesmerized by you right now and I don’t know what the hell to do or say. All I know is that protecting someone from the truth is just another way of shutting them out.”

Lane, a tightly wound, up-and-coming CEO who can’t seem to stop enabling his brother, doesn’t know what hit him when Bess falls at his feet and into his life.

It was a night she doesn’t remember, and one he can’t forget.

But rather than stay and help the needy college coed, Lane decides to teach his brother a long overdue lesson––a decision that later comes back to haunt him and only adds fury to the transgressions of his past he is already fleeing from.

Years later, Bess and Lane meet again. She doesn’t know him, and he doesn’t share that he knows what happened on that ill-fated night when she almost died. After all, he has a web of complicated lies from his own youth to protect.

Both are seeking salvation in the arms of others and ignoring the truth—that the only road to redemption lies in confronting your past.

When the past and present collide, is there any chance at redemption?

“Lane’s beard tickling the inside of my thigh in all the right places.” – Bess

A brand spanking new fantasy rolled through my head––visions of a lonely, yet seductive waitress, dressed in navy slacks and a little matching vest, her long hair spread down around her neck… – Lane

I had no choice, so I spent the dinner perfecting Lane Wrigley, the overly involved hotel business man, getting to know Bess Williams, the unimpressed, fragile, mysteriously beautiful waitress… – Lane

Setting my magic pills on the dresser, I stripped out of my smelly clothes from the night before. As they fluttered to the floor, I watched their descent, remembering my own extremely real downward spiral.

I couldn’t be upset…the girl next to me was smoking hot. Intrigued, I took in her long wavy brown hair that she was twisting into a messy bun, small tits in a bright blue halter top, and tight hips and a round ass poured into tight black yoga pants. The disappointing thing was she fucking stank, and my eyes began to water from the stench wafting my way, like booze and stale sweat.

This girl smelled like a bar after a long Saturday night.

Was she drunk? Was she even legal?

“Excuse me? Do you want a table,” I asked.

He flipped the paper down, peering over the top of it, and his crystal-blue eyes sharpened. A series of expressions flitted over his face, first hurt or sadness, then morphing into what looked suspiciously like lust. In the end the man continued to stand there, saying nothing and looking bewildered.

Weird.

Unnerved, I stared back at him for much too long but his gaze mesmerized me, capturing my body, mind, and soul in a way I wasn’t familiar with. It left me wanting to stare forever.

What the eff, Bess? Stare forever? Just seat the damn guy.

“Are you ready to sit for breakfast,” I asked, using my professional tone as a shield. I wasn’t on the menu, and definitely wasn’t one of the specials.

He cleared his throat and said, “Yes. Table for one.” Then he added, “Please.”

“Right this way.”

Review

In the New Adult genre, college romances are the norm, and all of them seem to fit a certain mold – popular, attractive, and athletic hero needs the assistance of the “nerdy” girl in order to remain eligible to compete and ends up wanting more than her academic help. As cliché as the situation sounds, most of the stories told in this format do a good job of conveying the collegiate atmosphere, its pressures and judgmental peers, and developing the characters in a way that allows for an easy and enjoyable read. But sometimes, there’s a diamond in the rough, so to speak, that regardless of how formulaic the story may seem, it stands out because of the seamless flow of story line and the creation of characters who are so well developed that they become extremely lifelike to readers, leaving readers a bit out of sorts at the end of the text, almost like a close relationship had been destroyed. Elle Kennedy’s newest release, The Deal, is one such story; Garrett Graham and Hannah Wells are truly dynamic characters and the humor, wit, honesty, and steam flows effortlessly from the pages of the text, offering readers an incredibly worthwhile and entertaining read.

On the surface, Garrett Graham is the quintessential college hockey star – the ultimate man on campus – manwhore extraordinaire. But if anyone was to look beyond his status, beyond his skill on the ice, they would see a man who works his ass off to live up to a father whose only use for Garrett is living up to his own hockey persona and not disappointing him. But no one wants to see beyond what Garrett’s status can do for their own popularity, and while he may use girls for his needs, they use him right back, perhaps causing more damage than him. Right from the start, I didn’t see Garrett as I normally see the cocky hero. There was a depth to him that was established early on because Kenned gives readers Garrett’s perspective, which makes it easier to see the layers of his personality and the struggles he endures that are way darker than dealing with a game or a grade.

Hannah Wells’ past has prompted her to become invisible, only allowing a few close friends to truly “see” her, but if someone actually took the time to do so, they would see a quirky, witty, extremely intelligent young woman who longs to feel safe for the first time since her life was upended by someone else’s actions. But as cautious as Hannah is, she also doesn’t allow herself to succumb to the fear or be manipulated or overrun by anyone. She’s passionate and talented, and she doesn’t try to be anything that she’s not.

I loved how Garrett and Hannah’s “deal” turns to friendship and then it transitions to something beyond – the gradual buildup of their relationship was extremely well written, and it helped to illustrate the characters’ personal transformations as well. I laughed out loud on numerous occasions due to Garrett and Hannah’s bantering; their one liners to each other and the way Hannah handles herself around Garrett’s teammates definitely add humorous undertones to the story.

The Deal is a fantastic New Adult read; Elle Kennedy takes the typical college romance story and turns it into a text that examines self-worth, social and family pressures, and a few other hot topic issues that aren’t sugar coated or treated indifferently. I believe I read that this is Kennedy’s first foray into this genre, and I, for one, think she’s found another niche for her writing style!

5 poison apples

Excerpt

Thirty minutes before my shift ends, I find Garrett Graham in one of my booths.Seriously.

Does this guy ever give up?

I have no desire to go over there and serve him, but I don’t have much of a choice. Lisa, the other waitress on duty, is busy tending to a group of faculty members at a table across the room, and my boss Della is behind the baby-blue Formica counter dishing out slices of pecan pie to three freshman girls sitting on the tall swivel stools.

I set my jaw and march up to Garrett, making my displeasure obvious as I meet his twinkling gray eyes. He runs a hand through his cropped dark hair and flashes a lopsided grin.

“Hey there, Hannah. Fancy meeting you here.”

“Yeah, fancy,” I mutter, yanking my order pad out of my apron pocket. “What can I get

“A tutor.”

“Sorry, that’s not on the menu.” I smile sweetly. “We serve really good pecan pie, though.”

“You know what I did last night?” he says without acknowledging the sarcasm.

“Yep. You were text stalking me.”

He rolls his eyes. “Before that, I mean.”

I pretend to think it over. “Um…you hooked up with a cheerleader? No, you hooked up with the girls’ hockey team. No, wait, they’re probably not ditzy enough for you. I stick with my original guess—cheerleader.”

“Sorority sister, actually,” he says smugly. “But I’m talking about what I did before that.”

He raises one dark eyebrow. “But I’m very intrigued by your interest in my sex life. I can give you details about that another time if you want.”

“I don’t.”

“Another time,” he echoes in a dismissive tone, folding his hands on the blue-and-white-checkered tablecloth.

He’s got big hands with long fingers, short nails, and knuckles that are slightly red and cracked. I wonder if he’s been in a fight recently, but then I realize the busted-up knuckles are probably a hockey player thing.

“I was at study group yesterday,” he informs me. “There were eight other people there, and you know what the highest mark in the group was?” He blurts out the answer before I can hazard a guess. “C-plus. And our combined average was a D. How am I supposed to pass this makeup if I’m studying with people who are as dumb as I am? I need you, Wellsy.”

Wellsy? Is that a nickname? And how on earth does he know that my last name is Wells?

I never told—argh. Damn sign-up sheet.

Garrett notices my surprised look and cocks his brows again. “I learned a lot about you in study group. Got your number, your full name, even found out where you work.”

“Congratulations, you really are a stalker.”

“Nope, just thorough. I like to know what I’m up against.”

“Jesus Harold Christ! I’m not tutoring you, okay? Go bug somebody else.” I point at the menu in front of him. “Are you ordering? Because if not, then please go away and let me do my job in peace.”

“Jesus Harold Christ?” Garrett snickers before picking up the laminated menu and giving it a cursory glance. “I’ll have a turkey club.” He sets the menu down, then reaches for it again.

“And a bacon double cheeseburger. Just the burger, no fries. Actually, I changed my mind—yes to the fries. Oh, and a side order of onion rings.”

My jaw almost hits the floor. “You’re seriously going to eat all that?”

He grins. “Of course. I’m a growing boy.”

Boy? Nuh-uh. I’m only noticing it now—probably because I’ve been too distracted by how insufferable he is—but Garrett Graham is all man. There’s nothing boyish about him, not his chiseled good looks or his tall frame or that ripped chest of his, which suddenly flashes to mind as I remember the picture he sent me.

“I’ll also take a slice of that pecan pie and a Dr. Pepper to drink. Oh, and some tutoring.”

“Not on the menu,” I say cheerfully. “But the rest is coming right up.”

Before he can argue, I abandon his booth and head to the back counter to place his order with Julio, our night cook. A nanosecond later, Lisa rushes over and addresses me in a hushed

“Oh my God. You know who that is, right?”

“Yep.”

“It’s Garrett Graham.”

“I know,” I answer dryly. “That’s why I said yep.”

Lisa looks outraged. “What is wrong with you? Why aren’t you freaking out right now?

Garrett Graham is sitting in your booth. He talked to you.”

“Holy shit, he did? I mean, his lips were moving, but I didn’t realize he was talking.”

I roll my eyes and walk over to the drink station to pour Garrett’s drink. I don’t look his way, but I can feel those smoky gray eyes following my every movement. He’s probably sending telepathic orders for me to tutor him. Well, too bad for him. There’s no way I’m wasting the little spare time I have on a college hockey player who thinks he’s a rock star.

Lisa trails after me, oblivious to my sarcasm and still gushing about Graham. “He’s so gorgeous. Like unbelievably gorgeous.” Her voice lowers to a whisper. “And I hear he’s amazing in bed.”

I snort. “He probably started that rumor himself.”

“No, Samantha Richardson told me. She hooked up with him last year at the Theta kegger. Said it was the best sex of her life.”

I have no response, because I couldn’t care less about the sex life of some girl I don’t even know. Instead, I shrug and hold out the Dr. Pepper. “You know what? Why don’t you take his booth?”

The way Lisa gasps, you’d think I just handed her a check for five million dollars. “Are you sure?”

“Yep. He’s all yours.”

“Oh my God.” She takes a step forward as if she’s going to hug me, but then her gaze darts to Garrett and she appears to have second thoughts about broadcasting her terribly unwarranted joy. “I owe you so big for this, Han.”

I want to tell her that she’s actually doing me the favor, but she’s already dashing toward the booth to wait on her prince. I watch in amusement as Garrett’s expression clouds over at Lisa’s approach. He picks up the glass she sets in front of him, then meets my gaze and slants his

Review (1)

What would life be like without the ability to feel anything but pleasure? No emotions. No pain. Nothing but physical arousal. In some ways, the inability to overthink, over analyze, and feel consumed by the plethora of positive and negative emotions seems like a fantastic way to escape the inconsistencies of life, but it also seems to be an empty way to go through life.

Conversely, what if life was nothing but sensations, consuming thoughts that wreaked havoc on a daily basis threatening to upend one’s well put together façade and destroy everything that has been gained through hard work and fortitude.

Voided and Filled – these implicitly describe Nicola Forbes aka Jethro Lane and Andris Gunn aka Sinclaire, the main characters of Cassy Roop’s newest release, Void, and although, on the surface, they seem to be the antithesis of each other, the more time they spend together and give into their feelings for one another, the easier it is to see that they are the catalyst for gaining and freeing the emotions that both fight to handle on a daily basis.

But when secrets, lies, and devastating truths are revealed, who will be left standing – the one who feels nothing or the one who feels everything?

Void is another great story from Cassy Roop. It has everything that I’ve come to expect from Roop after reading her Celtic Knot series – a suspenseful story line that keeps readers interest and keeps them guessing from the onset; characters who are multifaceted in their demeanors and actions, and steamy scenes that allow readers to understand the characters’ carnal connection as well as the underlying feelings waiting to be embraced.

There is a lot at stake for both Nicola and Andris as their story plays out and what they gain and/or lose due to their voided and filled lives is a journey that readers don’t want to miss.

BO

Sex is a dance with her. A slow tango where skin flows over skin. It is slick readiness, a quiet welcome. It’s smooth, warm, right, and all wrong.

There’s no move she makes I don’t preempt. When it’s new, I follow. When I’m different, she forms to me. She was the ground I walked on. The air I worshipped. The first years together she was my everything.

With Ingela, sex is love. It is guilt over not giving her what she’s worthy of.

This girl. She deserves so much. And I?

I don’t have it all.

The way she looks at me. It’s knives sharpened and twisting in my gut because the extent of her love is beyond my capacity. I tell her again, for the seventh time in five years, what the answer always must be:

“Ingela, I can’t. You are the best person I know. You deserve someone with the chops to love you hard and forever. I’m not that man.”

Again, I’ve reduced her to this; her body, the one I just took to the skies in ecstasy, wrecks with grief. This is why tonight is the last time we break up. I hate myself. I have to accept that I can’t make her happy.

It’s time I quit chickening out, quit running back to her over a bleak fling and whenever I need solace. To me, she’s comfort and familiarity. I’ll never stop loving Inga.

But to her, I’m still everything.

About The Author

Sunniva

Originally from Norway, I moved to the United States twelve years ago. I hold a Master’s degree in languages and taught Spanish at college level before settling in at the Savannah College of Art and Design as an adviser.

I write New Adult fiction, sometimes with a paranormal twist—like in “Shattering Halos,” published by The Wild Rose Press in February 24th 2014 and in “Stargazer,” estimated release date, November 2014. The first book I’m self-publishing is the New Adult Contemporary novel “Pandora Wild Child,” which will make me a proud indie author in October 28th 2014!

I specialize in impulsive heroines, bad-boys, and good-boys running amok. Then, there’s the intense love, physical and emotional attraction beyond reason—sensory overload for the reader as well as for the characters. Like in real life, I hope you’re unable to predict what comes next in my stories.

Yes, so I write what I love to read, and depending on the reader, you’ll find my books to be a fast-paced emotional rollercoaster—or disturbing because the struggles of love aren’t your thing. Here’s to hoping you have the same reading vice as me! ;-)
