Synopsis

“When we were kids, my cousins planned for their weddings like they were coronations. Sleepovers revolved around notebooks stuffed with clippings from bridal magazines and elaborate plans scrawled in purple ink. Horse drawn carriages, twenty tiered cakes, groomsmen in tails, and scads of bridesmaids, none of whom were nearly as pretty as the bride. Me? I’d just yawn and wander off to the backyard and play fetch with their dog. I never cared about any of that crap, at least not until I met Joe.”

With her wedding rapidly approaching, Molly’s days consist of herding Joe off to tux fittings and diaper changings times two. She misses life on the food truck, but she isn’t quite ready to leave the twins. Planning for every detail to be as perfect as her groom, she hopes her instincts are wrong that it’s all too good to be true.

Knowing Molly like he does, Joe can plainly see that his girl needs to decompress. She’s as stubborn as always, and talking her into a honeymoon without the babies proves easier said than done. Molly’s on edge about every little thing, from the nosey next door neighbor to cars speeding down their quiet street. While Joe revels in their otherwise blissful existence, he worries that Molly’s paranoia may be a symptom of something bigger.

Come back to Austin one last time for the wedding of Molly Elizabeth Hildebrandt and Joseph Samuel Jensen. Raise a glass in celebration alongside their family and closest friends. Wave goodbye as they ride off into the sunset toward a dark fork in the road that could destroy their happily ever after. Will they finally get their fairytale ending? Find out in Heartwood, the explosive conclusion to the Carved Hearts series.

Excerpt

I was blocks away from the restaurant when traffic came to a crawl. Anxiously tapping the steering wheel, I finally passed the scene of the accident which had tied up both lanes. It seemed some tourist had slammed their Winnebago into a Smart Car, and Austin’s rubberneckers needed an eyeful. The gridlock continued, and growing ever more frustrated, I pulled out my phone and texted my date.

Traffic. I’m a mile away.

She didn’t respond. I was about to call her, when my phone chimed.

I glanced down at the picture message. No accompanying words, but I didn’t need any. The top of her garter belt jutted out from her skirt. It was visibly pinned to black stockings. I licked my lips, ready to park and sprint the remaining blocks to the restaurant. Taking a deep breath, I soldiered on.

When I finally entered Bess Bistro, I scanned the place eagerly. It didn’t take me long to find her in the dimly lit restaurant. She sat at the bar facing away from me sipping a martini. I watched as she placed her glass carefully on the surface in front of her. Her upswept hair accentuated her long, lovely neck which begged to be tasted. Seeing those stockings in the flesh made my temperature rise, and the way her midnight blue dress hugged her heart-shaped ass had me salivating.

Some old dude with greying temples and a droopy porn mustache was giving her the full court press. He was turned sideways on his stool, leaning into her personal space and talking to her cleavage. She nodded politely in response to whatever nonsense he was spewing, as his lustful eyes continued to violate every inch of her exposed skin.

A couple of years back, I might have punched him right in the ‘stache, but this was the new and improved me. The guy that didn’t fly into jealous rages or break irritating people into itty bitty bits. However, when he reached out and stroked her dangling earring, ‘Old Joe’ reared his ugly head. I was tempted to rip him off of his stool and toss him out the front door by the seat of his Depends. Instead, I took a moment and another deep breath. I had kids to think about now. Everything I did (or didn’t do) set an example for them. True, they were far too little to know what I might do here, but their blabbermouth aunts would be more than happy to fill them in later in life. As I stood contemplating the pros and cons of my next action, a far more civilized strategy occurred to me. I felt a devilish grin bloom on my face and I sauntered to the bar.

I slid onto the empty barstool next to her. Reaching out, I picked up her drink and took a sip. “Is this martini dirty?”

“Well if it wasn’t before, it certainly is now.” Her stunning eyes took in my tailored suit, and the corners of her mouth curled coyly as she reached out and reclaimed her drink from me. Her full sleeve of tattoos somehow meshed perfectly with the silky dark material she wore. She was dazzling, and I was glad I’d decided to wear her favorite tie.

“What’s a woman like you doing sitting at a bar alone?” My greedy eyes devoured her plunging neckline and her glossy, full lips. She giggled quietly, and the way her fingertips trailed along the stem of her glass made me heady with anticipation. Mustache Rides shot me a dirty look and turned reluctantly back to his scotch.

“Waiting on my fiancé.” She looked up at me from under her sultry lashes.

“He made you wait?” I asked. She nodded, and the bartender who’d been hovering nearby approached. “Johnnie Blue. Make it a double.”

“He’s a busy man.” Molly sighed dramatically, lifting her speared olives to her lips. She tugged one off showily with her teeth, her eyes fixed on mine.

Oh…it was definitely on now.

“He’s a fool,” I shot back.

The bartender barely stifled a chuckle as he poured my whiskey. It was clear he thought I was trying to pick her up, and of course, I was. Though we owned a house and had children together, and it was my ring on that pretty finger of hers, these facts were all irrelevant.

Tonight Molly planned to make me work for it.

She glanced at the bartender, and then back at me. She was well aware we had an audience. Her amusement was thinly veiled, but she kept a straight face and stayed in character.

“How late is he?” I continued, my voice sounding wanton and thick.

Very.” Her decisive response reeked of promiscuity and I could feel the bartender assessing us curiously.

“I can keep you company while you wait if you like.” I leaned my elbows onto the bar and looked her over casually. She turned toward me and crossed her long legs. She was purposely drawing my attention to one of her best features, and I allowed my eyes to drop. My gaze trailed from the black straps at her ankles all the way up to her risqué hemline that ended far above the knee.

“Buy me another drink and maybe I’ll let you buy me dinner.” With that, she downed the last swallow of her martini. With a wicked smile, I turned back to the bartender who shook his head in blatant admiration.

“Oh, she definitely needs another one of those.” I stated. Mustache Man muttered something and abandoned his drink on the bar. The bartender glanced at Molly, and the gentle curl of her lips made him blush so profusely that his bald head looked sunburnt.

REVIEW: The Raven by Sylvain Reynard

Synopsis

From the New York Times bestselling author of the Gabriel Series comes a dark, sensual tale of romance in a city shrouded in mystery…

Raven Wood spends her days at Florence’s Uffizi Gallery restoring fine works of Renaissance art. But an innocent walk home after an evening with friends changes her life forever. When she intervenes in the senseless beating of a homeless man, his attackers turn on her, dragging her into an alley. Raven is only semi-conscious when their assault is interrupted by a cacophony of growls followed by her attacker’s screams. Mercifully, she blacks out, but not before catching a glimpse of a shadowy figure who whispers to her…

Cassita vulneratus.

When Raven awakes, she is inexplicably changed. She returns to the Uffizi, but no one recognizes her and more disturbingly, she discovers that she’s been absent an entire week. With no recollection of the events leading up to her disappearance, Raven also learns that her absence coincides with one of the largest robberies in Uffizi history – the theft of a set of priceless Botticelli illustrations. When the baffled police force identifies her as its prime suspect, Raven is desperate to clear her name. She seeks out one of Florence’s wealthiest and elusive men in an attempt to uncover the truth about her disappearance. Their encounter leads Raven to a dark underworld whose inhabitants kill to keep their secrets…

 Review

In The Prince, readers were introduced to a powerful vampyre who has ruled Florence’s underworld for over 800 years, seeking justice and retribution for those who openly defy him and his orders. He sees mercy as a weakness, so there is no leniency under his reign, and while that has acquired him a bevy of enemies, it has also kept him in command, allowing him more power than most can imagine. Two years ago, his dominion was under attack and he answered back forcefully, ensuring a clear message to be received to those who went and might go against him in the future.

But now, a new force has threatened him in the form of a beautiful and fearless woman, and her ability to unman him and alter his views and the course of his existence is not something the Prince was prepared for, and while the feelings she evokes are unexpected, he’s definitely not opposed to them, but unlike most things in his many years of living, she is not easily controlled, and he’ll have to open up to her and alter his perceptions if he wants to claim her for himself.

Even though Gabriel and Julianne Emerson make an appearance in the text, this is truly the Prince and Raven’s story. Throughout the tale, the Prince and Raven are both forced to deal with a multitude of issues, together and independently. Their relationship is forbidden in more ways than one, so it is a delicate line they are walking as the Prince places Raven under his protection, and Raven places her trust, although it takes quite a bit for that to occur, in a “soulless monster” who has no capacity for love, even though his actions towards Raven speak otherwise.

But The Raven is so much more than a paranormal love story. It also deals with the duplicitous nature of mankind and what happens when the thirst for power and revenge take over. In the Prince’s underworld, chaos has ensued, and it is coming from within his own coven. When it comes down to it, he has very few allies, and even they are suspect. The Prince is in an extremely unsafe position and now that he has Raven, he has to do even more to protect them both, and while he seems to be doing a good job, at the end of the book, the threats are still there, leaving everything wide open for the next part of their story.

I continue to love the blending of art history and literature that Sylvain Reynard weaves seamlessly into her texts, and The Raven continues in that tradition. Both Raven and the Prince’s connection to the art world is what binds them together after the Prince saves Raven from an untimely demise. The Prince uses Raven’s love of art to catapult their relationship to something more, and at times, it seems that he sees her as another piece of beauty to add to his collection, but as the story progresses, and they get to know each other more, Raven’s character and the multi faceted nature of her personality prove to be a huge catalyst for the changes that the Prince experiences throughout the text.

The Raven is an exquisite tale that weaves the darker paranormal aspects of the plotline intricately around the suspense, romance, and artistic world that is created above ground. The text is a fantastic start to another brilliant series from Sylvain Reynard, and I can’t wait to continue Raven and the Prince’s story in the next novel.

RELEASE WEEK REVIEW: Tight by Alessandra Torre

Tight final cover1 jpg

::::SYNOPSIS::::

I was happy in my small town. In my life as a single, thirty-two year old woman. I had a good job, wonderful friends, my independence.

I also hadn’t got laid in three years. Hadn’t been on a date in two. Had stopped counting calories and wearing makeup… a while ago.

Then Brett Jacobs waltzed in. Caressed my thigh, dug rough fingers into my hair, lowered his soft mouth to my skin, took sexual control of my mind and stirred it all around with what he packed in his pants. He flipped my quiet life upside down and crawled into a place in my heart I thought was dead.

The issues?

His secret.

Her.

The fact that I don’t even know she exists, and he thinks she’s dead.

Everything is about to hit the fan and I can’t hold on to him tight enough.

tight is live

:::::REVIEW:::::

“The word ‘tight’ has twenty two definitions,” and the denotative and connotative meanings of the word explore a plethora of explanations that are dark and devious as well as a positive description of the closest of relationships.

My experience in reading Alessandra Torre’s newest release, Tight, perfectly follows the idea that the multiple meanings of the word bring a bevy of emotions with them, taking me into dark places and also allowing me to understand that the kind of bond that Brett and Riley develop is one that cannot be undone regardless of the situations that occur to break it.

Definition 1 ~ strongly fixed or held

This definition of tight precisely describes the kind of steadfast hold Brett and Riley’s story had over me as I read. As Torre wielded their story and revelations were exposed, my attention could not be swayed. I needed to understand how all of the events that played out fit together and what that meant for the main characters.

When all the pieces of the puzzle started falling into place, my thoughts were then transfixed on the writing itself…the craftsmanship of the storyline and how Torre was able to weave multiple threads together that keep readers guessing until that final reveal.

Definition 2 – difficult to cope with

At times, it was not easy to see how the lines blurred together, which frustrated me because I had a ton of different scenarios playing out in my head, but I couldn’t understand how any of them would work with how the story was progressing, and then when I finally understood the connection, what occurred was hard to wrap my head around and accept.

Those same feelings of unease surround both Brett and Riley throughout the story; Brett due to events of the past and what he’s doing to combat those situations in the present and Riley in terms of the unraveling of clues that don’t fit the persona of the man she willingly gives her body and then her heart to.

Definition 3 – characterized by firmness or strictness in control or application or in attention to details

This is a perfect description of what Brett’s life has turned into since a fateful event that changed every part of who he is and what he does. Control is essential to him but after meeting Riley that commanding presence is drastically altered, mostly for the better, but it still forces Brett to adjust and regroup, leading to more deception.

Alessandra Torre is an author who isn’t afraid to push limits…to take readers to the edge of darkness and then slowly bring them back to a sense of hope…to an understanding that there are evil sides of human nature but if one is willing to fight through abysmal situations and not yield to that malevolence than the end results regardless of the pain will be worth it.

Brett and Riley’s story is a mesmerizing experience. It’s raw, dark, sensual and worth every held breath, perplexed thought, and jumbled up emotion.

Alessandra Torre is a masterful writer who weaves multiple threads of a story together that keep readers guessing until that final reveal. Both books that I’ve read by her have taken me on a tumultuous journey that shredded my mind and my heart, but as soon as she allowed me to understand everything, the path made sense and left me in awe of her brilliance.

I definitely cannot wait for the next crazy read from the devious mind of Alessandra Torre:)

REVIEW

“I’m at my best when I’m being bold.”

No truer words were spoken by Race Hartman, Jay Crownover’s newest hero in her dark and gritty series Welcome to the Point. And even though he’s Shane “Bax” Baxter’s best friend, there’s a dichotomy to Race – one that Bax doesn’t have because he was born and raised in the Point and had to deal with the desolation and deceptiveness that it holds since he came into this world.

Race’s life began on the Hill where everything was handed to him without effort and without appreciation. But that life ended swiftly when the rose colored glasses were shed, and Race realized the darkness behind the money, power, and prestige, and now Race finds himself in a lifestyle that has created, in a way, a fracture of his soul – a duality of sorts of the kind of man the Point has created/forced him to be and the man who still understands the difference between right and wrong. In order to survive, Race’s life follows a deliberate path, skirting the dubious connection of good and evil but never letting that lifestyle fully ensnare him.

This “ruthless, broken King of the Streets” never thought he would need or find a Queen willing and able to deal with what he has to do for his “kingdom,” but he just might have in the unlikeliest of places.

Brysen Carter knows a lot about existing in the middle of the Hill and the Point. Although she’s never personally faced the nightmares of the Point that all changes when she finds herself not only drawn to Race but desperately in need of his assistance when someone begins to target her and threatens to unravel whatever sanity she has left in a life that has imploded due to her parents’ actions.

Race doesn’t know if Brysen can handle the Point and all the blood and filth that comes with it, but neither of them are willing to walk away from something that just might offer them both what they so desperately need – a place to find light in all of the darkness. Race brings Brysen’s “gray world to life,” and Brysen creates a “survivable place” for Race and bridge between who he truly is and who he creates in order to do the things he needs to in the Point.

It’s a bold move on both of their parts to give into their feelings with the chaos that swirls around them, but a little hard work has never deterred either of them before, and Race and Brysen know now that the stakes are even higher, it’s going to take a hell of a lot to separate them now.  Let’s hope that fortitude holds true for the hellish events that are to come.

The environment that Jay Crownover creates by having the setting take place in the Point is something that needs to be appreciated and understood by readers. The Point itself is just as much a main character of the series as the heroes and heroines. To truly understand what motivates the characters and why their decisions are what they are, the backdrop of the story – the ins and outs of a place that controls many people must be seen clearly, and Jay does a fantastic job of making the Point come to life and depicting it in all of its fucked up glory.

Race is such a complex hero. At first glance, he’s seen as a criminal – a law breaker who deserves everything bad that comes at him, but it’s not that difficult to look beyond the facade…beyond the appearance that is portrayed to the public and see who Race truly is at his core. Getting his firsthand perspective is essential for this understanding, and Jay offers that insight to readers with ease, which allows for a deeper appreciation as to how a man can stay true to his beliefs/values while living in an environment that threatens to strip his humanity on a daily basis.

Appearances can be deceiving also epitomizes Brysen’s character. She may look like a cold ice queen with a bitchy attitude and that may have been who she was, but with everything life has thrown at her, she’s been forced to adjust…to grow a backbone…to do what needs to be done to protect her sister. Brysen is Race’s perfect match just like Dovie is Bax’s. The female counterparts couldn’t be more different than the men, but that’s what makes it work…that’s what soothes the beast within both Race and Bax, which is clearly demonstrated in their interactions with one another.

Better When He’s Bold is an intense story that sheds light on the complexity of the individual and what s/he is willing to do to accomplish what needs to be done. It’s suspenseful…it’s intriguing, and it clearly demonstrates that there’s a depth to people that’s way deeper than what is shown by the life they lead. I love that Bax and Dovie play an integral part in Race and Brysen’s story, and I sure as hell can’t wait to find out what’s beneath the cop exterior of Bax’s brother, Titus.

It has been six years since the Awakening and peace in Spokane, Washington is still tenuous at best. The vampires and shifters are all vying for control of the city and the humans seem to be the ones suffering the consequences, or so it seems.

Aria Naveed has spent the last two years of her life fighting to make the many wrongs of the world right, but soon finds out that the humans aren’t as weak as they appear and may be a more terrifying foe than any of the other races combined.

When a stranger rolls into town with trouble on his heels, Aria finds herself trapped in the middle of a battle that could cost her more than she has bargained for as a fight for justice turns into an unexpected fight for her life.

Excerpt

All I saw was blood. Blood soaked my hands and coated the walls. It stained the concrete flooring of the abandoned warehouse and dripped from fixtures that hung from the ceiling, trickling like a slow rain. My vision blurred as anguish filled me. How could this have happened? How could I have been too late?

I stared down at the lifeless body of a child. A boy. Kneeling in a pool of congealing blood, I ran my fingers through his chestnut hair, ignoring the now-cool moisture seeping into the denim of my pants. His face was unrecognizable. Gone was the child with the dimpled cheek and brilliant blue eyes. Left behind was a mass of flesh and bone—a ruined body drained of its life force at such a young age.

Reality snapped like an elastic band, bringing me back to the present as I sat at my desk in Sanborn Place. Ripped from the haunted memories of finding Daniel’s body.

The world was a cruel place. It was a fact of life and even though I knew it was true, I still had a hard time coming to terms with the atrocities people committed. The cruelties that for some god-forsaken reason, people thought were okay. Staring down at the wallet-sized photo now crumpled in my hands, I was greeted by a crown of chestnut hair, bright blue eyes, a heart-shaped face, and a brilliant smile; a single dimple on his left cheek. The face of an innocent seven-year-old boy, cut down like he was little more than a calf brought to slaughter. I found myself struggling to link the image of this smiling boy to that of the ruined body I’d found less than forty-eight hours ago.

Inside, a small part of me burned. My blood heated and a turbulent rage rolled through me, one I had to fight to contain.

“Ari, you’ve got to stop staring at the kid. He’s gone. Let it go,” I heard Mike say.

I couldn’t let it go. I didn’t understand how he could either. I looked up from the photograph and stared Mike straight in the eyes. He cringed but held my gaze.

“He was seven-years-old, Mike,” I said through clenched teeth. “Seven!”

I shook my head, the poor kid had barely lived, barely tasted what the world had to offer. I take that back, he’d tasted too much of what the world could give and it had cost him.

Ever since the Awakening six years ago when all things that went bump in the night decided to come out of the woodwork and play, safety had been tenuous at best and kids like this, like seven-year-old Daniel Blackmore, were suffering the price.

Vampires, shifters, mages, witches and many more creatures of the night so to speak had seemingly popped out of nowhere, deciding they were ready to integrate themselves into everyday, or night, society.

Daniel had been abducted by a rogue vampire. I’d found his mangled body, broken and discarded as if he were nothing more than a piece of trash and I was going to find the bastard that had killed him and make him pay.

“Ari, I know what you’re thinking and the answer is no.”

I looked Mike up and down. He was an older man in his late forties with a streak of silver in his otherwise midnight colored hair. The wrinkles around his eyes would lead you to believe he smiled a lot but I knew better. Those lines were from his ever-present frown. Dressed in black slacks and a grey button up shirt, his mid-section strained against the buttons looking like they could pop off at any moment, likely taking someone’s eye out in the process.

“I wasn’t asking for your permission,” I told him, my gaze going back to the photo.

“I don’t give a rat’s ass if you were asking. I’m telling you, Ari, let it go! You can’t help him anymore. All you’ll end up doing is getting yourself hurt or worse, killed for your trouble.”

That was the problem with people who had lived through the Awakening. Their only concern was self-preservation. Nothing else mattered. Well, screw that because this little boy, he mattered. His life mattered and he deserved justice. I had scrubbed my hands after finding his broken body but couldn’t scrub the stain his death left on my soul.

I stood up from my desk and grabbed my keys and daggers. I sheathed the twin blades on either side of my waist, grabbed my leather jacket, and made a beeline for the door. Mike crossed the room to intercept me, arms folded over his chest blocking my way.

“Move,” I bit out.

“No.”

“I can move you.”

“You can, but you won’t.”

I ground my teeth together. He was being ridiculous. This entire situation was ridiculous.

“Mike, this isn’t some game. A little boy died. He died! Does that even matter to you? I couldn’t live with myself if I let this one go.”

“What’s your plan, Ari, you going to just storm into the coven and force them to tell you who did it? They won’t tell you. They protect their own and you’re one person against an entire Coven of bloodthirsty vampires. Even the kid’s parents know it’s a lost cause. They’ve dropped the case and are focusing on burying their kid. They’re coming to terms with his death. It’s over.”

I’d been hired by Jessica Blackmore, Daniel’s mother, a little over two weeks ago to find her son who’d gone missing one afternoon. He had been walking home from a friend’s, only five houses down from his own, but never made it to the front door. She’d thought it safe enough to allow him the small bit of independence but with paranormals about, it was never truly safe.

Mike knows I’m different. He knows I have pyrokinetic abilities and he knows I can take care of myself. This wasn’t reason talking, this was him being overprotective. Feeling the temperature in the room begin to rise I forced myself to inhale and exhale slowly. Trying to calm down and keep my pyrokinesis locked up tight. It wouldn’t help the situation to start a fire. All it would do is prove to Mike that I wasn’t in control and right now I was in no mood for a lecture.

“Look, Ari, you’re a mercenary. You take on a job when you have a client. There is no client so there is no job. We’re not the police. We don’t try to clean up the streets or bag the bad guys. We’re mercs.”

I couldn’t blame him for his way of thinking. Hell, two weeks ago I would have said the same thing, but this was different. He was just a kid and I couldn’t believe everyone was so willing to leave his murderer out there.

“Why don’t—”

Mid-sentence I heard the distinct buzz of a cell phone. Mike dug his phone out of his left pocket and answered it without looking at the screen.

“Hello,” he said. Mike’s face scrunched in confusion, a furrow forming between his brows. He listened for several moments and then with a grunt he hung up and stared me down. At six feet tall, he towered over me by a good five inches, but I didn’t back down. Lifting my chin and giving him my best try me stare. The one I knew drove him crazy.

“Looks like you’re getting exactly what you asked for,” he said.

“And what exactly is that?”

“That was Declan Valkenaar on the phone.”

Holy shit, the Pack Alpha. What the hell was he doing calling Mike?

“Me, too. I’m … Thomas, by the way,” he said softly. He rolled over and relaxed beside me, his head propped by his hand. Instead of getting dressed, he looked as if he were ready for conversation.

I pressed my lips together. “I’m,” Do it. Do it or you’ll just be kicking yourself later. “…emotionally unavailable.”

“I live in Midtown,” I said, wondering if I would see my neighbor again.

She grinned. “Me, too. A lot of us do. We can drown your sorrows together.”

“I don’t have sorrows. Just memories. They’ll go away on their own.”

***

He narrowed his eyes. “Are you insubordinate, Agent Lindy? Is that why you were sent here, to be under my command?”

“You requested me, remember?”

“I didn’t request you. I requested the best language expert we had.”

“That would be me, sir.”

Just when life seems to be manageable, you’re thrown radically off course by “the one”. “The one” you weren’t expecting. “The one” who single handedly holds the key to the tattered and rusted lock to the walls surrounding your heart. Letting her into your protected sanctuary will only serve one purpose, intentional infliction of pain and heartache.

Jon is a man on a mission with only one agenda, to survive…to survive his past, and avoid letting his future be consumed by his history. It’s all really simple, until she walks into his world and turns it, on its axis. She makes him yearn for things he never wanted, or at least didn’t realize he ever would. Now his dreams and writings are consumed with the fantasy that this girl could change everything. But deep down he knows she deserves better. Better than him. Better than anyone he’s ever met.

He’s the lead guitarist for Garrett McKenna’s band. His life consists of touring, studio time, and writing music. That’s it. Staying healthy means keeping his routine, which has been easy enough until this little effervescent beauty rocks his world. Now he’s left questioning everything and doing some soul searching to decide if he’s equipped to give what he knows she needs and deserves.

Whitney avoids love at all costs. She’s not scared of it. She’s too strong to be that weak. She refuses to allow herself to lose her mind over another person, when there’s a high probability of getting her heart broken. She’s witnessed it more times than she can count, and she’s less than interested in taking the gamble.

Her strong will has served her well in life. Very few people know her secrets. She prefers to keep it that way. Her friends and family own her heart and deep devotion. She could easily do without the rest of the population but plays nice so she doesn’t appear to be the major bitch she knows she is on the inside.

Everything in her life makes sense. Her life is filled with more love and laughter than most will ever see, and it feels complete to her. She’s simply satisfied…until him.

He complicates things. His life isn’t something she understands or is willing to try to figure out. But she can’t keep her mind from wandering to the scruff faced, gorgeous guitarist, no matter how hard she tries.

He’s everything she’s never wanted, yet her heart is telling her differently. She fears she’s diving headfirst off the cliff of heartache. She’ll never recover from her brief no-strings weekend with this man. If she opens her heart it will be “the end”… no matter what. The question is what kind of ending will it be? Not all fairy tales have the happily ever after.

CHASING ME by Jennifer Probst

BOOK SUMMARY

Quinn and James’ Story Continues in Chasing Me…

It was supposed to be a love story….

I knew she was out of my league but I didn’t care. Looking back, I wonder if I hadn’t pursued her, would things have turned out differently? Is it Fate that determines our choices in life? God? Free will? Or just plain old innate selfishness?
I got her, of course. There hadn’t been a girl I wasn’t able to seduce. Problem was she seduced me right back, body, mind, and soul. She possessed me, tormented me, and showed me a world that was so bright and pure I was almost blinded.
Didn’t she know after such a drug I could never settle for less? Didn’t she realize no matter how many times I screwed up, or broke her heart, or bent her to my will, I’d never be able to let her go?
If I hadn’t known such intensity existed, would it have been better for both of us?
True love, the real kind, isn’t nice and sweet and pure. No, it’s dirty, and sinful, and messy. It’s like ripping a chunk of flesh from your body and watching yourself bleed out in slow, helpless intervals until you thankfully pass out.

This isn’t a love story. But it’s the only story I got.

Mackenzie Forbes was everything I ever wanted and the one person I didn’t deserve. When a past mistake costs me the girl I love, I’ll do everything I can to get her back. We both have demanding careers and family secrets darkening our pasts, but I need Mackenzie in my future.

Sometimes everything you have to give just isn’t enough…

FindingYou

FINDING YOU by Jenna Bennett

BOOK SUMMARY

Sex on the Beach, the do-over.
I had a simple plan for what to do in Key West the second time around.

Testify at the trial of the rapist I helped catch last year.
Make sure he gets locked away for the rest of his natural life, so he can never, ever hurt another girl.
Wait for my BFFs to get to town, so we can celebrate.
And stay far away from Ty Connor, because three months after breaking up with him, I still don’t know whether being with him is worse than being without him.

Spring Break, take two.
All of the above? Out the window.
Turns out testifying is a lot harder than I thought it would be.
Not only is the rapist I helped catch last year not locked away for the rest of his life, he’s on the loose and looking for me.
Oh yeah, and it’s definitely harder being without Ty than being with him, especially when I have to watch him with someone else.
Welcome to my world.
