How do two people whose lives depend on control end up giving someone else the power to dictate how they feel, act, and live? How do two people who seemingly couldn’t be more different form a bond that is so strong that in just two weeks of knowing each other they are unwilling to give each other up?
Blaire Michaels (Raven) is a 22 year old virgin who takes her clothes off for money because her mother needs an expensive heart operation, and she thinks it’s the only way she can cover the cost. She’s a fan favorite at the strip club, Club Climax, but she only goes as far as the stage; she won’t walk the floor or go behind the Ultimate Climax door – it takes everything she has just to bare herself to the customers without throwing up, so she never goes any further that that…until she receives an offer she can’t refuse from a man whose face she’s never seen – at least she doesn’t think she has.
Jaxxon Ryder (Mr. R) is a man of wealth and importance. At 25 years old, he has more money than he knows what to do with and a harem of women at his disposal at any time. He’s a man without feelings…a man with dark desires…a man who wants what he wants when he wants it, and he wants Raven. He has to have her at any cost – even if he has to give up his control, battle his inner beast, and deal with feelings that he’s never experienced before.
Their two week arrangement is simple – Raven is at Mr. R’s beck and call 24 hours a day…she remains blindfolded when they interact…she calls him “Sir” and only speaks when spoken to. He can use her any way he desires. But it becomes anything but easy when feelings come into play for both of them. She needs his “harshness”…his “darkness”…his “demon.” He needs her light…her love…he just needs her.
But once Raven and Mr. R’s true identities are revealed and the true nature of the beast exposed, can a relationship that started as a means to an end – one money/one sexual desire really work?
As I was reading Climax, my mind was a jumbled mess. For most of the text, I hated Mr. R. He was a cruel, over the top bastard, but I was drawn to him. I wanted to understand him and the things that he needed. Like Raven, he scared me, turned me on, and drove me crazy. Being in his head was a mindfuck all on its own. It’s probably one of the rawest looks into a man’s mind that I’ve ever read.
Climax is definitely a hot read…no place is off limits for Raven and Mr. R’s sexual escapades. It’s a text that allows readers to step out of their own reality and into a world full of dominance/submission, control/powerlessness, light/dark. It’s about two people who live dual lives and only are able to merge their two selves by being with each other. It’s definitely not a book for everyone…it probably won’t give you warm and fuzzy feelings. Jaxxon/Mr. R. is someone readers will love to hate with his stalker tendencies. I still can’t wrap my mind around the book…it intrigues me, disturbs me, and plays with my head. I think Sexxa Kohl is doing something right if I’m still thinking about the book days later. Can’t wait to see what kinds of twists and turns readers will get with Honey’s story.
