REVIEW
I’m a huge Lola Stark fan. I love her Needle’s Kiss series; it has great characters with awesome storylines. When I found out that Lola was writing a cowboy book, I couldn’t wait to see what she had in store for readers with this one. I loved Destry; yes, it is more of a contemporary romance…a bit different from her other series, but it’s still Lola; in fact, it seems immensely personal…she makes a point to explain at the beginning of the text that she wrote this book at a time where she felt a bit lost and lonely. Both Destry and Amelia fit those feelings to a tee.
Amelia and Destry’s story is filled with angst, sexy scenes, and witty banter. One part of Lola’s writing that really works for me is the way she tells her stories in dual point of views; readers understand where both the hero and heroine are coming from, which adds to the story immensely.
For Amelia’s entire life, she hasn’t been able to be her true self. She’s always had to play a role, and it’s one she detests. At the beginning of the book, the life planned out for Amelia blows up due to an indiscretion, and she looks at it as a blessing in disguise. Freedom is finally in her grasp and then she gets ran off the road by a cow! This event actually introduces her to Destry and his brothers because it’s one of their cows that she’s trying to beat with her fists! The storyline moves quickly after their first meeting, and its focus is not only on the chemistry between Destry and Amelia but also on Amelia’s journey to find herself and be true to only what she wants and needs.
Amelia is definitely my kind of heroine. She’s feisty and stubborn. She has a mind of her own, and she finally uses it. I love the fact that she proves Destry’s first impression of her wrong and continues to show the type of woman she is on a daily basis. There are numerous times in the text where I want to slap some sense into Destry. It makes sense that he would prejudge city girl Amelia based on his experience with his ex, but those scars he carries threaten to ruin everything he has with Melia. There’s definitely an uphill battle for both Amelia and Destry at the latter half of the text due to miscommunication and an overabundance of stubbornness. The way it all plays out is in true Lola Stark fashion.
Rough and Hard is the title of this new series, and it’s a perfect description for Lola’s cowboys 😉 Readers will definitely enjoy the ride of Destry. Braxton, Destry’s brother’s book is up next, and I can’t wait to see how things play out! Lola gives readers a preview into his story at the end of book 1 and we are in for one hell of a show with that one!

EXCERPT
“‘Melia.” A light kiss on my shoulder had me stepping from complete sleep to eyes closed not wanting to wake up. I loved when I had these types of dreams. Destry touching me, his soft gentle lips touching my skin. “‘Melia, darlin’. Time to wake up.” His voice sounded so real, but then it always did. I snuggled deeper into the blankets and sighed. Only when I moved my hands to grab the pillow I always tucked up against me, did I realize I wasn’t dreaming. I slowly cracked an eye and was greeted with a glorious naked—from the waist up—Destry. His hair ruffled from sleep.
“Mmmm.” Best non-dream ever,” I quietly mumbled, smiling to myself. That earned me a chuckle and another soft kiss this time to my forehead.
“Time to get up, sleeping beauty.” He moved to his knees and I noticed his jeans weren’t buttoned. The happy trail that I’d taken my time following the night before caught my eyes, and I all but eye raped his toned stomach.
“Commando in the morning might be the best thing in the world.” I yawned, stretching out my sore muscles. We’d cuddled under the stars all night making good use of the food I’d packed, and eventually fell asleep in the back of the truck. “Cum gutters are pretty high up there too,” I smiled sleepily.
“Cum gutters?” he asked with a short laugh, handing me my clothes he’d obviously gathered up at some point.
“Mhmm.” I ran the tip of my finger along the clearly defined V muscles that ran from the top of his hips and disappeared into his jeans. “Cum gutters.” Tapping the skin there, I slowly sat up, watching him shake his head and smirk.
Lola Stark lives in Australia, Is an at home mummy with no filter raising a hoard of minions and a husband who sometimes appears not to have grown up. Lola has loved to read for as long as she can remember. When not wrangling the family she can be found sitting at her computer , writing, facebooking or just generally messing around.
