Mike Haddican is a proud small-town gym owner, a renowned karate instructor, and all-around good guy. He’s never needed much to be happy: his family, his friends, his girl. Especially his girl. But when Kyra left him seven years ago to chase her dreams, she all but destroyed him.
Contemporary dancer Kyra Brims made it big, but it cost her dearly. With her life and career in shambles, she doesn’t need a do-over, she needs a friggin’ miracle. Injured, broke, and out of options after going through hell, she’s come back to Alden, the town she swore she’d never return to and home of Mike Haddican, the man who ripped her soul to pieces, to lick her wounds and recover.
Forgetting and letting go proved impossible when they were worlds apart; now that they’re stuck together they don’t stand a chance, especially with Mike’s grandma and her partners in crime plotting, meddling and refusing to give up on them.
As the passion that never died burns out of control, so do old hurts and unresolved issues. Both have reasons to be angry and feel betrayed, but now that they’re older, are they wise enough to make things work?

READ CHAPTER ONE (CLICK HERE)
When two people who have been in love since high school suddenly see their futures moving in two different directions with neither of them willing to meet the other halfway, there are usually casualties along the way, and when you add in a heavy dose of miscommunication and a mountain of misunderstandings, hearts will be broken, and lives will be turned upside down. This is the exact situation that readers are thrust into in Elle Aycart’s Deep Down.
Mike and Kyra’s story is not an easy one. They thought they had it all, but a few regrettable nights destroy any chance of a reunion. For years, they both struggle to get past the love they feel for one another; Mike fills his nights with a plethora of women, and Kyra tries to make a new life with her husband and daughter. But things are not going well for either of them, and many years later, when Kyra finds herself back in the town where it all began, will they finally get a chance to talk about their past and move forward with the help of a few meddling “Original Grandmas,” or will Mike and Kyra hold on to their grudges and prevent the second chance that deep down they truly want and need?
Boy does this book take readers on a roller coaster of emotion! Because the text is told in third person point of view, readers are allowed insight into both Mike and Kyra’s thoughts and feelings. We witness their heartbreak; we hear their side of the story. It’s hard to take one side or the other or pass judgment on either of them because Elle Aycart presents it in such a way that our only option is to hope Mike and Kyra will work through their issues and make another go at a relationship.
Mike and Kyra are amazing characters. Readers can’t help but feel for both of them. Even when Mike’s a complete asshole, I had sympathy for him…I didn’t want to, but I couldn’t help it. The way his struggle is explained clearly shows he’s as much a casualty in all of this as Kyra is. Mike’s alpha male to the core, and it’s clearly shown through his domineering attitude. Control is extremely important to him, but Kyra makes him lose it on more than one occasion. Mike in protective mode is a sight to be seen, and this side of him comes out in droves when it comes to defending what’s his – namely Kyra and Sam.
Kyra’s strength through all of her ordeals is portrayed phenomenally. She definitely didn’t make the right choices and those demons haunt her daily, but she can’t regret what she did because she has her daughter because of it. The growth that she demonstrates throughout the course of the text speaks to her finally figuring out what matters most in life.
I loved Deep Down. It has a fantastic mix of angst, steam, and humor. The “Original Grandmas” are hilarious; they added the perfect about of laughter to ease all of the tension, and their meddling plays a big part in giving Mike and Kyra their second chance. I highly recommend this text as well as Elle Aycart’s Bowen series. All of them are fantastic reads.

After a colorful array of jobs all over Europe ranging from translator to chocolatier to travel agent to sushi chef to flight dispatcher, Elle Aycart is certain of one thing and one thing only: aside from writing romances, she has abso-frigging-lutely no clue what she wants to do when she grows up. Not that it stops her from trying all sorts of crazy stuff. While she is probably now thinking of a new profession, her head never stops churning new plots for her romances. She lives currently in Barcelona, Spain, with her husband and two daughters, although who knows, in no time she could be living at the Arctic Circle in Finland, breeding reindeer.
Elle loves to hear from readers!
