BLOG TOUR STOP: Toxic by K.A. Robinson: Review, Excerpt, Teasers, and Giveaway

***Toxic: Logan’s Story is Book Four of the Torn Series, but it can be read as a standalone if desired.***

True love is forever. After years of chasing his best friend, Chloe, Logan finally managed to win her heart—or so he thought. His world crashes down around him when she confesses to cheating on him with a local rock star, Drake. Unable to let her go completely from his life, Logan reassumes his role of best friend while he watches Chloe find her happily ever after with another man. Each day, he sinks further and further into his depression, and the kind, caring Logan he once was dies. When Jade, a member of Drake’s band, inserts herself into his life, Logan never expects to fall for her. He’s too broken, too damaged.

Jade ran away from home when she was seventeen, desperate to escape her abusive stepfather and her controlling boyfriend, Mikey. The only regret she has is that she left behind her little sister, Bethaney. When Jade’s band, Breaking the Hunger, hits it big, she vows to go back to her hometown not only to reconnect with her little sister, but also to show her stepfather that she’s not worthless like he said.

The moment Jade saw Logan, she knew she wanted him. Unfortunately, he was with Chloe at the time. After his world falls apart, Jade steps in to comfort him, determined to bring back the Logan she once knew.

Sometimes, you find true love with the person you never least expect. Can Logan and Jade heal each other? Or will they forever be changed by their toxic pasts?

In Book 1of the Torn Series, Torn, readers watched Logan fall apart when Chloe chose Drake over him, and now in Book 4, Toxic, we get to hear what happened from his point of view and see what really went on behind the front that Logan put on to prove to his friends that he was okay.

Bitter. Angry. Self-Destructive. This is how Logan felt after Chloe broke his heart, not only by cheating on him with Drake, but then choosing Drake to spend her life with. Chloe’s betrayal destroyed Logan and left him depressed, drunk, and promiscuous. He pushed everyone away and wallowed in his heartache. Every time he claimed that he was fine and could handle seeing Drake and Chloe together, he would fall apart again. It seemed like there was nothing anyone could do or say to pull Logan back from the ledge, but through it all, one person stayed by his side no matter if Logan wanted her there or not and that was Jade.

Jade is such a loving and giving heroine despite the hell she went through during her childhood. She has every right to be bitter and closed off after pretty much being forced to leave her home at such a young age, but she’s not. She’s compassionate and empathetic; she cares a great deal for Logan and wants to be his friend; yes, she has feelings for him and would love to have a relationship with him, but even if that doesn’t happen for them, she’s still going to see him through this difficult time and help him in any way that she can.

The title is significant to both Logan and Jade. Due to Chloe’s actions, Logan chose to go down a path of destruction that completely changed who he was, and this transformation turned him into someone who used girls and wallowed in his hatred for the girl who broke his heart. Did he have every right to feel hurt by everything that happened? Absolutely, but the choices he made prolonged his suffering and closed him off to having a healthy relationship with someone else – someone like Jane. Jane’s childhood was a completely toxic situation that she chose to get out of, and while it still affects her in some ways, she fought against the abuse and neglect and chose to live life her way without regrets and without thinking about how others might see her. She’s definitely someone Logan can learn from in terms of how to deal with difficult situations, and thankfully, he does begin to see what Jade is offering him once he begins to get his head on straight.

Even though there are a few bumps in the road to redemption for both Logan and Jade, they do finally get there together, and the payoff is definitely sweet!

Toxic is a great story that teaches readers to fight for second chances and perhaps even to take a step back and see that everything happens for a reason. I don’t think Chloe was meant to be with Logan, and now that Logan has some distance from the situation, I think he’d agree. Fate’s a fickle fellow but he just might know what he’s doing;)

Chloe quickly turned away from us and headed across the parking lot to her car before either of us could say anything. We watched in silence as she pulled out of the parking lot and disappeared around the corner. Once she was out of sight, I turned my attention back to Drake.
“You destroyed everything!” I shouted at him.
“Fuck this. I’m going back inside. As much fun as it would be to watch you two idiots beat the shit out of each other, it’s cold out here,” Adam muttered as he turned and walked back to the bar.
Eric and Jade watched us for a second before turning and following him. I didn’t miss the pity in Jade’s eyes, but I ignored it. I didn’t want anyone to feel pity for me.
“You think I don’t know that, asshole?” Drake said as he glared at me. “I know this is my fault.”
“Then, why did you do it?” I shouted.
“Because I love her!” he shouted back, stopping me in my tracks.
Of all the responses I’d expected, that wasn’t one of them. Drake used women. He didn’t love them.
“You what?” I asked incredulously.
“I love her. I’ve tried to ignore it—believe me, I’ve tried—but I can’t. I love her, and I don’t know what the fuck to do about it.”
“You’re incapable of love, Drake. I’ve watched you screw every woman in sight for months!”
“I haven’t touched another woman since I figured out how I felt about Chloe. I wouldn’t do that to her.”
