Devil’s Game (Reaper’s MC #3)

Author: Joanna Wylde

Release Date: June 3, 2014

Synopsis:

Liam “Hunter” Blake hates the Reapers MC. Born and raised a Devil’s Jack, he knows his duty. He’ll defend his club from their oldest enemies—the Reapers—using whatever weapons he can find. But why use force when the Reapers’ president has a daughter who’s alone and vulnerable? Hunter has wanted her from the minute he saw her, and now he has an excuse to take her. Em has lived her entire life in the shadow of the Reapers. Her overprotective father, Picnic, is the club’s president. The last time she had a boyfriend, Picnic shot him. Now the men in her life are far more interested in keeping her daddy happy than showing her a good time. Then she meets a handsome stranger—a man who isn’t afraid to treat her like a real woman. One who isn’t afraid of her father. His name is Liam, and he’s The One. Or so she thinks.

Review:

“’Romeo and Juliet died, son. Consider that all the answer you need.’”

This time around, it’s star crossed lovers MC style. It’s the Reapers against the Devil’s Jack. It’s the Reapers’ princess and the Devil’s Jack’s right hand man. It started out as a mission; a way to get information, but it turned into so much more than Liam or Emmy could have ever imagined. The only question that remains is which one comes first – the club you pledged your life to or the woman who’s slowly stealing your heart?

Joanna Wylde’s Reapers MC Series is my favorite biker series of all time. The storylines are packed full of intense action, hot sex, and interweaving anecdotes that keep readers’ interests until the very last page. There are so many twists and turns along the way that we can’t help but immerse ourselves in the biker lifestyle and all that entails – both the good and the bad. Joanna’s strong character development has readers’ invested in the characters’ lives, so when they face tragedy and suffer from grievous acts, we feel that, and when things are going well, through the dual point of views, it’s like we’re part of the Reapers cheering them on and reveling in their happiness.

Devil’s Game is Book 3 in the series, and it is the best one so far. In Reaper’s Legacy, readers were given Sophie and Emmy’s kidnapping through Sophie’s perspective, but now, in Liam and Emmy’s book, readers get the gaps filled in my the kidnapper and one of his victims, which makes it so much clearer. From Book 2, we know that Sophie and Emmy escape, so Book 3 goes on to explore the fallout from Sophie and Liam’s choices and what it means for their respective clubs.

Emmy Lou is one fantastic heroine. She knows the biker lifestyle; she grew up in it, living and breathing it. She’s feisty and strong, looking to find her own way in the world – out from underneath her father’s protection and control, and even though she knows the Reapers will always be there, she needs to make her own mistakes as she struggles to find herself.

Liam/Hunter is an enigma. His life is the Devil’s Jack. He found them at a time when he didn’t have anyone; he’s done all that they’ve asked of him and more, but this time around, he wants to take something for himself, even if means going up against the only family he’s ever known. He’s charming, witty, and he oozes sexuality. He’s used to getting what he wants from everyone, but he knows enough about Emmy and who she is that the takes a step back and does what he needs to show her that what started out as something for his club is now all for him.

Em and Liam’s story is gritty and raw. It’s filled with violence and deception, but it also illustrates the bond between father and daughter and what true brotherhood means. There’s tons of action, hot sex, and witty banter. Some of my favorite scenes are when Emmy calls Liam out on his actions and then proceeds to kick him in the balls both literally and figuratively. Emmy is one hell of an old lady, and I can’t wait to see where this series and these bikers go next. Bring on Picnic’s story!
