Review

I thought I loved Jack Lair in the first two books, but Encore gives readers another side of Jack that makes him even more swoonworthy. His world has been all about Leila since the beginning of their relationship, and it continues to be in the final book of the series. The once player and self indulgent man has developed into a compassionate, protective, and loving husband, and readers have been able to watch his development over the course of the three books. Because the angst and drama from external forces is gone, book 3 focuses on the relationships of the Devil’s Lair and Cliffhangers members. Jack and Leila aren’t the only ones getting their happily now, and A.M. Madden shows readers how everyone is doing and how their lives have changed.

Encore is told through four different perspectives, so readers get a chance to see how other people view Jack and Leila’s relationship as well as how they are doing with their own. Readers feel like they are a part of this close knit group of friends because Madden invites us in through the first person perspectives and the banter between all of them. The supporting characters are just as vital to the series as Jack and Leila, so providing some of their voices and showing them all grow into somewhat responsible adults is just how the series should end.

The definition of encore is an additional performance added to the end of a concert; this is exactly what A.M. Madden gives readers in book 3. At the end of any book/series, we all wonder what happened next…how did their lives turn out, and Madden graciously gives us that information and leaves us with a satisfied sigh knowing that our rock stars and their significant others are well on their way to their happy endings, and with Trey’s book coming next, hopefully, he’ll even end up right where he belongs.
