Chasing the Sun Synopsis:

When Ian Radcliffe gets the opportunity to leave town to consult on the project of his career he’s doesn’t think twice. He loads his dog and guitar into the back of the Jeep and flips Dallas the bird as it becomes a speck in his rearview.

A change of scenery, that’s just what he needs. His heart isn’t broken anymore, just sore. He thought he’d found the one in Katrine MacNamara, but unfortunately she thought he was number two.

He wasn’t a rich businessman, or a rockstar…he was just an architect. He believed in love, family, and friendship. Some might call him the ‘nice guy’. He always thought so— do the right thing, protect the bullied, return your mom’s calls.

When two dynamic women enter his life in this new city the lines of friendship, sex, and love are blurred, his world of black and white becomes a little more gray.

Will the heartbroken become the heartbreaker?

Readers fell in love with Ian in Rebound and Resilient. This is his story and his chance at a love of his own. It won’t come easy, like he always thought it would. But nothing good comes easy…at least nothing worthwhile.

Hold onto your hammocks girls, your favorite nice guy is taking center stage. It’s Ian’s turn to get the girl…or two.

Chasing the Sun is a 40,000 word novella, and although this is a spinoff of the Rebound series, it can be read as a stand alone.

Review

When readers last saw Ian Radcliffe at the end of Resilient, he was heartbroken and angry; he thought he did everything right to get Katrine in the end, and she still ended up going back to Xander. Destroyed by her rejection, Ian gets the perfect opportunity for distance when his design is chosen for a building in Austin, so he packs up and heads out, hoping that time and space will help him to heal and move on. Ian never thought in a million years that he would grow to understand the conflict Katrine felt in choosing between him and Xander, but all it takes is two special women to make him see that things are not as black and white as he once thought.

Trevia “Trey” Swartz is the beautiful barmaid he meets soon after he arrives in Austin, and they instantly hit it off. They start up a fast friendship, and even though there’s a pull between them, Ian doesn’t want to risk a falling out by acting on that attraction, but the deeper feelings are always at the surface waiting for the chance to spark. Aurora “Rory” Monroe mesmerizes Ian with her voice and her body. She’s a free spirit looking for a good time, and for Ian, that’s something he needs after what he went through with Katrine. But despite his physical relationship with Rory, Trey’s always there as Ian’s friend, so Ian’s heart is torn between the two.

When it’s time for Ian to go back home, will he give into his feelings for Trey, stay with Rory, or go back to chasing the sun?

I’m so glad that Ian was able to find his own happiness, and I love that his experience with Trey and Rory helped him, in a way, to heal and forgive Katrine for everything that happened. I have to admit, there were times in the novella when I wanted to shake Ian. I was 100% Team Trey throughout the entire book; they seemed perfect for each other, but maybe that was the issue for Ian…maybe that’s what scared him off.  I understand why he pursued Rory, but it still didn’t sit well with me.  Sure, people’s track records shouldn’t define who they are, but when your good friend is telling you to stay away, there’s a reason. Could it have been jealousy on Trey’s part absolutely, but Trey also wants Ian to be happy, and she clearly proves that with her actions throughout the entire text.

Let the sun catch you

I think when it’s all said and done, Ian finally understands the difference between chasing something/someone and allowing that something/someone to find you; it may have taken him a bit longer than usual, and he may regret some of the things that happened along the way, but if everything happens for a reason, it led him down that path, and he’s learned from every experience that occurred. He finds what he needs, which is what all of us want to be able to do.
