For Kenny Woods, she thought she lost her one to love when her husband, Blake, died in a bar fight. Since then, she’s been surviving, not living her life. Her one night of recklessness resulted in a one night stand and an unexpected baby, and while she doesn’t regret that night with Patrick because of her son, Lane, the love she has for Patrick is one of friendship not romance. Slayde Bennett calls himself a “broken down sinner.” He moves to Bayville to start a new life, a dull one where he plans to keep his chin down and avoid any type of personal connections. One night of acting without thinking destroyed his life as he knew it, so now the plan is to lay low, get a job, and try to figure out a way to make a life for himself despite a past that always reminds him of everything he once had.
When Slayde first meets Kenny, there’s an instant connection, but Slayde knows that Kenny deserves better than a has been like him, so he tries his best to stay away from her and offer her a chance to find someone to love who can offer her, her happy ending. But the heart wants what the heart wants, and soon enough, Kenny and Slayde’s relationship heats up, and they find themselves in deeper than they have ever been with anyone else. Despite Slayde’s past, he sees Kenny as his path to redemption, and he wants to give her everything she’s ever wanted, but in order for their lives to move forward, Slayde is going to have to bare his heart to Kenny and hope that when all of his secrets have been exposed, she’ll still see him as her one to love.
One to Love is both a heartbreakingly tragic and completely uplifting story that shows just how much someone’s past defines his/her future and what it takes to rise above it all. Slayde’s past comes back to haunt him and threatens his new life with the woman who has grown to mean everything to him, and Kenny’s search for the one who will love her unconditionally is put into turmoil when her heart gets shattered all over again.
Kenny and Slayde’s story is a fantastic addition to Tia Louise’s One to Hold series. In true Tia Louise fashion, book four brings the steam as well as the angst. One thing that I take away from each book in this series is that nothing comes easy in love or in life, and that message is clearly delivered because the hero and heroine have to fight and endure to get what they want. There’s not an easy fix for any of the situations. True love is not an instant connection; it takes work and it takes compromise, but that’s exactly what each couple in the One to Hold series does in order to have the life they’ve always wanted. With Stuart’s story next and what he was going through in Book 4, it will be interesting to see who’s going to be the one to help him through his past in order to give him a future like the ones the other couples found in their stories.

Character Interview ~ Kenny
Question One: Explain how/why you have lived your life the way you have since Blake’s death?
Umm… well, I guess you mean alone? When I met Patrick, it had only been a year, and I was just getting on my feet again. Then when we had Lane, everything changed again. Only that time, I didn’t feel alone. Or maybe I did, but I could go for a visit or work or something. It was easier that way than trying to risk it again.
Question Two: How do you keep your strong bond with your son even though he lives with his father, Patrick?
Oh, well, he’s my baby! I see him all the time—at least twice a month, and now… well, we’re working on maybe trying an arrangement where he can stay with me sometimes, too. He’s still little, but when he’s bigger, we can figure out what makes sense for him.
Question Three: Explain the significance behind your tattoos and how they define your past.
The star was my very first tattoo. I was just playing around, so it’s not really significant. The butterfly, however, Carl did for me, and it’s about transformation, coming back from the dead. The tear in my palm was for all the tears I cried after Blake died, but it changes in One to Love… No spoilers! J
Question Four: Why did you feel the need to cover up your tear tattoo and how significant was it for you to replace it with what you did?
Okay! Maybe we are spoiling? LOL! I lived in mourning for years—I wasn’t sure I’d ever live any other way until I met Slayde. When I knew how I felt about him, how he’d changed me, I felt like it was important to change that symbol, too. I’m not mourning anymore. I’m living.
Question Five: For so long, you closed yourself off of the idea of having a relationship with anyone after Blake. What makes Slayde different?
I don’t know if it’s just one thing, but the biggest thing was he understood what it meant to lose something very important. He suffered, too. But we both didn’t stop there. We wanted something better. And he’s seriously amazing. J
Question Six: If you could have a do over on any of the events of your past, which one would you choose and why?
Oh, I don’t know. They say the past is what makes you who you are in the present. I guess if that’s the case, I shouldn’t change anything. I’m not sorry I married Blake. I’m not sorry I was so careless with Patrick. All of the mistakes I’ve made got me to here, and I’m pretty happy here.
Question Seven: Do you believe in second chances? What would it take to willingly give your heart to someone after all of the pain you suffered after Blake’s death?
I wasn’t sure I believed in second chances—at least not for me. I’d seen other people get them, but it felt like I never would. What it took to give my heart again is everything Slayde is. He’s caring, warm, passionate, a fighter… sexy. J

LOL! Oh, he just makes me smile. Funny, smart, adorable… I could go on and on.
Question Nine: Describe Patrick in three words.
Hmm… Overprotective, Ridiculously sunny, and an amazing friend.
Question Ten: Describe Slayde in three words.
This is hard. We all know how controlled he is, but he’s also thoughtful. He’s crazy sexy, and so loving. Being with Slayde is intense.
