Jonah Riley is the definition of a good ole southern boy; his family means everything to him, and when his father suddenly dies in a freak accident, he becomes the man of the house and does what needs to be done in order to take care of his mother and younger sister. Jonah may not want all of the added responsibilities that are suddenly thrust upon him, but he doesn’t shy away from them either; in fact, he embraces his new role, doing whatever he can to keep his momma’s worrying at bay and get the assistance his sister needs due to her illness. With that outlook in mind, Jonah journeys down a path he never thought he’d find himself – one that will make him question who he is as a man and what his father would think about his decisions if he were still alive. His blossoming career as a singer isn’t something he would have ever thought possible, but it’s happening nonetheless, and when you add in Lacy Abernathy, a closed off, sultry singer who consumes Jonah’s every thought, Gay, a bar owner looking to make him a star for her own gain, and a few other players in the background who seem to have their own agendas where Jonah and Lacy are concerned, there’s no doubt going to be an abundance of angst and drama filling the pages of Southern Rocker Boy.
Ever since I finished Ginger Voight’s Fullerton Family Saga, I’ve been waiting for her to release another series. Her writing captivates readers because her stories are completely character driven. Voight creates flawed heroes and heroines who are endearing as well as frustrating due to their actions and choices. Jonah is the perfect male lead because he epitomizes all the qualities of a southern boy, but he’s also human and can succumb to temptation. Voight does a fantastic job of showing the struggles Jonah goes through as he becomes an overnight sensation and how it changes him into someone he doesn’t even recognize. In a business where everyone pretends to be somebody else, Jonah has to learn to see through the bullshit and put what’s important first, and while he makes mistakes, when everything’s said and done, he does his best to stay true to who he was raised to be.
I’m not completely sold on Lacy yet, but once I get inside her head and see everything through her eyes, I’m sure she’ll grow on me. For much of the story, it seemed like she was also playing a role, and it was hard to tell who she really it; readers get glimpses of her insecurities and softer side, but she’s too busy putting up walls and going against the grain to truly see who Lacy is at her core. Jonah tries to move past Lacy’s facade, but with the tension between them due to their jobs and what’s at stake for both of them, it will be interesting to see how Lacy plays it in Book 2.
Southern Rocker Boy is another great story from Ginger Voight. Nothing over the top occurs in the story line and there’s great character development throughout. I’m definitely ready to hear Lacy’s side of things in Book 2, Southern Rocker Chick.

Ginger Voight is prolific author, freelance writer and optioned screenwriter. Her fiction is diverse, with novels like the edgy, coming-of-age drama DIRTY LITTLE SECRETS, and the fun family adventure for kids of all ages, COMIC SQUAD.
Having grown up reading different authors like Danielle Steel and Stephen King, Ginger has always been drawn more to story than to genre. This shows up in her various stories. Titles such as MY IMMORTAL and TASTE OF BLOOD are a delicious, heady mix of horror, suspense, and romance.
Genre romance, however, has held a special place in her heart, ever since she read her first Harlequin novel when she was only eleven. As a result, Ginger is making a name for herself writing romances of her own, starring women who look more like the average American woman rather than those traditionally represented in the size-biased American media. Her Rubenesque romances were created especially for those heroines with fuller figures, who can still get the man of their dreams if only they believe they can. Such titles include UNDER TEXAS SKIES, LOVE PLUS ONE, THE GROUPIE TRILOGY, THE FIERCE TRILOGY, THE FULLERTON FAMILY SAGA, THE LEFTOVER CLUB and PICTURE POSTCARDS.
Ginger was included in the best-selling book by Smith Magazine NOT QUITE WHAT I WAS PLANNING, featuring her six-word memoir.
