Review

While Chloe, Drake, and Logan’s stories are unfolding in the first four books of K.A. Robinson’s Torn series, there’s another one developing as well, and this one creates just as much tension, drama, and heartache as the others; it’s just carried out behind the scenes and hidden in plain sight amongst the rest. But now it’s time Amber tells her story, and readers see what happens to Chloe and Logan’s supportive best friend when no one is looking out for her or watching her back when she needs them the most.

Amber and Adam – two imperfect people who carry the scars of their past relationships like badges – determined not to give anyone else the chance to shred their hearts again. The rules are perfectly clear – no attachment…no feelings…no promises and definitely no love because as they both see it – love is a death sentence that only ends up destroying every part of one’s soul.

Amber’s scars lead her into her first year of college not looking for a relationship. Her outlook on guys completely alters when she’s betrayed by her high school boyfriend. She’ll use them for sex but won’t give them her heart because there’s nothing left of it. Amber finds a few guys who help her scratch her itch when she needs to, but when she starts up a friends with benefits’ relationship with Drake’s bandmate, Adam, the highs and lows she experiences with him define her existence and turn her into someone she’s not proud of but can’t help being.  She’s a frustrating heroine because readers see who she is at her core and what she truly wants from Adam, but she’s too afraid of getting hurt and rejected to put herself out there with him, so she plays his game and finds out that he’s a much better player than she is.

Adam…I don’t even know where to begin with him. Unlike Drake, he never grows on me. Don’t get me wrong, I still find him an incredibly sexy manwhore, and I understand why he plays by the rules he does when it comes to women and what he wants from them, but he is even more in denial than Amber is and because of that, he uses his actions and words to destroy Amber, which is why throughout most of the story I wanted to kick him in the nuts and smack the hell out of him.

Amber goes through hell and back in her rocky relationship with Adam, partly because her feelings for him are more than she can handle and the outlet she uses to suppress those feelings turns her life completely upside down. Throughout much of the story, a real relationship existing between Amber and Adam seems impossible, especially when their lives take them in much different directions as well as states. But if readers have learned anything about the couples in Robinson’s Torn series, it’s that they are never to be counted out because life has a crazy way of making everything right when it seems nothing but wrong.

Tamed is a steamy and emotional read that will have readers threatening bodily harm to both Amber and Adam as their story progresses. It was interesting seeing the whole Chloe, Drake, and Logan love triangle play out through someone else’s eyes, especially a very perceptive someone. Now that Eric’s the only person unattached, it will be interesting to see what K.A. has in store for him. If the only four stories are any indication, it’s going to be one hell of a bumpy ride!
