Review
Dani and Shadow’s path to their happily ever after has been paved with club business, threats, darkness, and babies, and while it definitely hasn’t been easy, it’s what makes Dani Shadow’s light/fire in his tormented world.
In The Love that Defies Us, Dani and Shadow’s story continues. It’s a few years later, and they’re settling into family life with their son, Zane, but with Shadow’s new position as VP of the club, there’s definitely a strain in their relationship because the time they get to spend together is far and few between, but that’s not something that will divide them because they’ve been through too much and defied too many odds to not be together.
In this Devil’s Dust novella, it’s Valentine’s Day, and Dani and Shadow, despite turmoil surrounding the club, want to show one another how important they are to each other and the idea of possessing the other’s body and soul is the only thing on their mind. Dani is Shadow’s number one priority, and he’s going to show her exactly what that means because he wouldn’t be able to exist without her by his side.
The continuation of Dani and Shadow’s relationship is a steamy, suspenseful ride that epitomizes how defying love can be even when faced with extreme situations. Dani and Shadow are bonded together; every challenge and obstacle thrown their way has been overcome, not without pain and suffering, but they’ve still been able to challenge anyone or anything from stopping them from being together. The idea of love fighting to beat the odds is personified in The Love That Defies Us; it shows what’s at the heart of both Dani and Shadow’s characters and it gives readers a bit more insight into the kind of man Bobby is as well, which helps lead into the next book in The Devil’s Dust series, and one that I’m anxiously awaiting.
