From the New York Times bestselling author of Jake Undone, comes a full-length standalone companion novel and sequel.
A different side to the story: Jake’s side.
“We’re getting a new roommate,” they said.
I thought nothing of it…until she walked in the door. Her hand trembled in mine as she looked at me with fearful eyes. My entire world spun on its axis.
Nina…
It was a mismatch made in heaven: innocent girl from the boonies moves in with tattooed, pierced, badboy engineer.
I came up with a bet, a plan to tutor her in math and coach her through her phobias. What I wasn’t betting on was becoming addicted to her.
But I was living a double life on weekends, and once she found out about it, she’d be gone.
I had to protect myself and that meant one thing: I couldn’t fall in love.
In Jake Understood, pivotal scenes from Jake Undone are retold from Jake’s point of view combined with all-new material from both the past and present time where Jake Undone left off. It can stand alone but if both books are read, should follow Jake Undone. Contains graphic sexual content and harsh language. It is only appropriate for adult readers age 18+.

Review
I love that Jake told Skylar and Mitch his side of the story, and we as readers were able to experience it right along with them. Who better to tell than a couple who had to fight for their own happy ending and a woman whose personal struggles and close connection with Nina makes her the perfect person to add in her own knowledge and give Mitch a clearer picture of all that Jake and Nina endured to reach the point where they are right now.
As Jake takes Skylar and Mitch back to his first encounter with Nina, the pull he feels towards her almost instantly and the constant torment and self-loathing he experiences due to his feelings for Nina and his responsibility to Ivy, his hot and cold demeanor towards Nina makes much more sense. Jake has always done what’s needed to protect Ivy, sacrificing his own happiness by not allowing himself to move on and find someone he can truly be with and his reasons become so much clearer in Jake Understood. But he never counted on Nina knocking him on his ass and making his heart beat again, and despite his resistance, he can’t deny the need to live in the moment and make Nina his in every sense of the word.
Jake Understood is a perfect name for this text because getting Jake’s point of view for pivotal moments in Jake Undone and witnessing his constant internal struggle and the sacrifices he made in order to protect Ivy illustrates the kind of man he truly is. The text also exposes new information about Ryan’s role in the turmoil and other insights that allow for a much clearer picture of everything that occurred in book one. Readers also get Nina’s point of view towards the end of the book, shedding light on what the current turmoil involves and how Ivy’s presence in her life with Jake still creates friction between them. But what’s also clear is that Nina is it for Jake and vice versa, and that’s exactly what Penelope Ward unravels for readers in Jake Understood adding a more intimate look into who Jake Green is and how he came undone and made anew by Nina.
