Review
This series has been a bit of an uphill battle from the start. The secrets, lies, cheating, and messed up actions on the part of the main characters and their enemies has left my mind spinning in each and every book.
In Unbreak this Heart, Mason (Reaper) and Hilary are the main focus; readers get their past history and the current state of their marriage, which is far from good. Much of their background we already know from the previous books, so I felt like parts were too repetitive, but we do see a bit more of Reaper’s dark side and the hell Hilary went through to stand by him when he was consumed with anger and delivering pain. But Mason and Hilary’s past dominates the first half of the book and then when the action and drama starts, it’s difficult to absorb it all because it feels a bit rushed. There are three couples that need their relationships tied up in the end, and with not a lot of book left, illustrating how everything plays out is not entirely possible.
I have to admit throughout the entire series, I really had no clue why the heroines wanted the heroes. It was extremely difficult for me to find any redeeming qualities in Jasper, Vinny, or Mason, so I struggled to understand why the girls would want to endure the heartache that they do. All of the relationships, some more than others, are crazy dysfunctional, so it boggled my mind that they were willing to continue with their relationships.
There were a lot of unanswered questions going into Unbreak This Heart, and readers do get their answers, and like most of the situations in this series, the reasons behind the betrayals and the people who are involved are completely messed up.
I’m not one to question a writer’s decision with the ending of a book and/or series. Do I get upset when things don’t work out the way I would have liked, absolutely, but it’s not my story or my ending, so while I know that readers will be ticked off with how this series ends, I understand why it does and it actually makes sense to me. Nothing has been easy or perfect in this series. It’s been messed up, difficult, and out of control, so giving readers the perfect ending just wouldn’t be realistic. There had to be pain in order for growth and that’s what we get.
Even though I didn’t love the Angels Warriors MC Trilogy, I did like the fact that Dawn Martens had the guts to write about characters that some readers would hate and take them on a journey that is dark, dangerous, and deadly.
