Roxy Sloane definitely knows how to keep her readers on the edge of their seats, flipping the pages as quickly as they can to solve the mystery even before the characters do. Most of the time, though, that’s not possible because Sloan leads her characters through a series of twists and turns, molding theories in a way that could point to anyone. I had my guesses as to who El Jefe was, and although I was correct in my assumption, the way the clues were presented had me doubting myself on many occasions and part of the reveal I never saw coming.
Nikki and Xavier’s connection has sizzled from the start, but she’s never been able to go all in with him because her doubts still linger about the double life he seems to live and the secrets that seem to follow him. The steamy scenes they share definitely illustrate their attraction, but I have to admit, I didn’t understand why Xavier went after Nikki so fiercely because she’s always so hot and cold with him. I really would have liked to be given a bit more insight into why they’re drawn to each other so intensely and the reasons they can’t seem to let go.
The Scene serial is a suspenseful, erotic journey that has a solid storyline with titillating scenes and action packed revelations. I thoroughly enjoyed how Roxy Sloane uncovered the characters’ secrets and she illustrated Nikki’s conflicted feelings well. I would have liked a bit more in terms of the conclusion, but it’s enough to know that Sloane gives readers what they want in the end.
