Review
Ethan Dexter – an NFL center who “anticipates, adapts, and protects” his quarterback…his friends…his girl – if he can find the right one and let himself take instead of overthinking every move he makes.
Ethan is quiet, and he keeps to himself. No one sees him fully unless he wants them to and the only person he’s ever willingly allowed fully in is the one person who could send his calm, cool, and collective self spiraling out of control – Fiona Mackenzie.
But regardless of how different Ethan and Fiona may be and despite the distance that stands in their way from truly making a relationship work, what they give to one another during the times they are together is definitely worth fighting for and finding a way to build on their attraction because feelings like the ones they have for one another deserve a chance to grow.
Throughout the course of the story, Ethan helps Fiona find her joy and stop running, and every step of the way, he proves he’s the best thing that has ever happened to Fiona. Regardless of how inexperienced Dex may be, with everything that he gives to Fi, there’s no doubt that he is the man to tame Fiona and make her feel alive, and she’s the woman to breakthrough Ethan’s rational mind and release the beast within in every delicious way possible.
Dex is definitely in the running for my top favorite book boyfriend of 2015!
He is the complete package…he’s a gentleman…he’s an alpha. He’s a giver and a pleaser. He is AMAZING!
I wasn’t sure if I was going to like the Fiona/Dex connection, but surprisingly, as Fi fights for what she wants and stops running long enough to see what’s standing right in front of her, she grows on me and has me supporting her decisions, cheering for her to get her man once and for all despite how exposed she may be by being Ethan’s girl.
Kristen Callihan’s Game On series is one of my favorite sports romance collections out there because her heroes may be flawed, but they are willing to change for the right girl, and her heroines are not docile women – they refuse to be pushed around and aren’t afraid to take control. The story lines are also realistic in what the characters must deal with due to the football god status of the heroes and the back stories Callihan provides for her characters bring a sense of understanding to their current actions and it makes it so much easier to stay strong for the couple as they work through the chaos because there’s no doubt they want and deserve to be together.
