REAP
REAP (Scarred Souls #2) by Tillie Cole
 RELEASE DATE
November 10th 2015

Synopsis

Raised as a prototype for the Georgian Bratva’s obedience drug, 221 fails to think, act or live for himself; his master’s perfectly-crafted killing puppet. Standing at six foot six, weighing two-hundred and fifty pounds, and unrivaled in to-the-death combat, 221 successfully secures business for the Georgian Mafiya Boss of NYC, in the dark world of the criminal underground.

Until his enemies capture him.

Talia Tolstaia dreams to break from the heavy clutches of Bratva life. She dreams of another life—away from the stifling leash of her Russian Bratva Boss father and from the brutality of her work at The Dungeon—her criminal family’s underground death match enterprise. But when she stumbles upon her family’s captive, who is more monster than man, she starts to see the man underneath. A powerful, beautiful, damaged man whose heart calls to hers.

But sacrifices must be made—blood for blood… life for life… Souls for scarred souls…

Review

What I love most about Tillie Cole’s storytelling, especially in her Scarred Souls series, is that she allows her readers to see and feel EVERYTHING that her characters endure. She forces us into the darkness, fighting alongside her heroes and struggling for just one moment of lightness…for a way to be more than what they were made into…more than a number…more than beast. And, as her characters are brought to the depths of hell, readers keep their eyes and minds open because we need to understand their suffering; we need to be able to visualize the mistreatment, the torture, the pain; we need to realize that Raze and 221 were turned into killing machines. They were no longer boys and then men, they were slaves and dogs sent to reign down death on those their master or owner commanded. That was their existence for as long as they can remember because their memories were taken away with their freedom and they were meant to live and die in squalor, having no idea what waited for them in the light.

As Raze became Luka, 221 becomes Zaal, but a part of them both will always be a killer…a man who thirsts for revenge…whose rage overwhelms him…who must sort through the confusion to find the truth.

Reap is a story of redemption; it’s a story that illustrates the true meaning of soulful love and how that kind of connection soothes the fire inside…heals irreparable wounds. It’s 221’s journey to the light and how his freedom leads him to a woman who is supposed to be forbidden but all he sees her as is his.

Talia Tolstaia is a Mafia princess regardless of how much she wished she wasn’t. She’s always struggled to find her place in that world, simply enduring her father’s dictates and finding her own ways around them. But when Zaal enters her life, she finally feels whole because that primitive man becomes everything to her in such a short amount of time, and it’s her love, her strength, and her commitment to him that allows Zaal to become more than a programmed killer…more than a fierce monster. Talia allows him to become free in every sense of the word.

But Reap is not only 221’s story; it’s Luka’s as well because he is not whole even with everything that he’s done and received since he escaped. No one becomes fully healed in such a short amount of time when they endured years of brutality and darkness. It still lives and festers in Raze, threatening to destroy all of his progression because no matter how much he tries to remove that part of himself, the part of a killer, he can’t do it. So Reap is also Luka’s struggle to find a balance in his life as the Russian Mafia prince but also as a man who needs to release the rage inside him for the sake of himself and those he loves.

Tillie Cole delivers a well-crafted and complex story line each time she releases a book; from her first text to her newest one, I am in awe of the power she holds over me every time I enter one of her worlds, and I can’t wait to see what she has in store for her readers next.
