The conclusion to the New York Times bestselling romance that began in Phenomenal X, about one woman’s pulse-pounding relationship with a notorious bad-boy wrestler.
“What’ll it be, Anna Cortez? Are you in, or are you out?”
One momentary loss of control has now ruined everything Xavier Cold had going for himself. With his world unraveling fast, he’s willing to do anything to save not only his job but his relationship with the only woman he’s ever loved.
Anna Cortez, still reeling from shock, tries desperately to save the man that’s consumed her heart, body and soul. She’ll have to dig deep and find courage she never knew she possessed to help Xavier fight demons from his past—a past that’s even more haunted than she ever imagined.

I’ve been anxiously waiting for the conclusion of Anna and Xavier’s story since the explosive ending of book one. I knew going into Xavier Cold that they were going to have to fight through all the bullshit occurring at Tension with Rex, Vicky and Deena, but I didn’t expect the shitstorm to come in as many directions as it did, causing Xavier to shut down and feel like Anna was better off without him.
In book two, readers are privy to more of the demons of Xavier’s past and why he does his best to forget that time in his life despite the nightmares he still endures. But back in Detroit, he’s forced to face them head on, which further puts a divide between him and Anna because he’s not good at sharing or letting people in because he’s used to them leaving him, but if Xavier can’t control his actions and be more open and honest with Anna, the darkness might completely take over and leave him without the only person who brings in the light.
As hard as it was to hear everything that Xavier went through as a child/teen, it made it easy to understand why he self-destructed so often and flew off the handle so easily. Not only did he have to deal with his grandmother, but the area he lived in, The Block, didn’t give him much of a chance either, forcing Xavier down a path that he knew wasn’t right, but one that he didn’t know how to get out of because he didn’t know what else to do or where to go to get what he needed.
I loved getting more of X’s point of view in Xavier Cold because it forced me not to feel wrecked by his secretiveness or his inability to trust Anna completely because it was made clear by his inner turmoil why he chose to do what he did when it came to not letting Anna fully in for much of the story.
Anna illustrates how much she’s grown as a person when she does her best to soothe Xaiver’s rage and proves that he’ll never lose her because they’re stronger together. There are times throughout the text that readers can feel how heartbroken she is by Xaiver’s inability to trust and his constant need to protect her by pushing her away, but we also can sense her strength and her resolve to stand by her man even when it doesn’t feel like he wants her to do so.
There are a few twists in the story that I didn’t see coming, which added to the intrigue of the story line, but at the center of the plot was Xavier’s struggle to move on from his past and accept Anna’s unconditional love without doubting that she’s going to stick around forever, which is why I thoroughly enjoyed it.
