Perspective – it’s amazing what happens to a storyline when the point of view changes; things are no longer black and white – they become muddled and what was thought to be true about characters, relationships, and who’s good and who’s bad is turned upside down until instead of answers, all that’s left are more questions because the plot expanded and its scope resembles something different…something that no longer leaves any of the pieces that were once put together in tact; rather, they are falling out of place because with the outlook shift, a new order needs to be created, and although Jay McLean has given readers possible directions to head towards, at the end of Redemptive, it’s still unclear who’s truly the savior and what still must be combated.
What I love about this series is the fact that the storyline requires analysis; it forces its readers to see beyond the façade and to look beyond the mask and realize who’s behind it and what their agenda is. In Combative, Ky and Madison’s struggles resonated off of the pages; readers could feel their pain and anguish, and we were forced to silently ponder our theories as to why Madison’s past remains so tightly sealed. Redemptive, at least in my opinion, implied that liberation would occur…that the characters would no longer feel held down by their sins, but Jay’s meaning for book two actually makes more sense, especially given who the book is about and what they’re faced with throughout the story. And, even when Redemptive ends, the idea of redemption remains a bit distorted because the angle from which the story was told has to change yet again, leaving the story wide open because lines have been crossed and there’s been damage done that there may not be any way to come back from at least without more pain and more questions. I’m not quite sure where this series is headed, but I can’t wait for Jay to take me there!
Tick Tock, Jay, I’ll be counting the minutes…hours…days…months…until you put the puzzle back together for me and show me who I should allow to remain damaged beyond repair and who I should reach for, hoping beyond hope that the damage and scars that surround those individuals can be healed by a promise of a future that is nothing like their past or the present hell they are living.
