Dane Prescott spends his days staring at perfect holes, and knows how to use his stiff shaft to get there. He’s as hot as he is good at the sport he loves more than breathing.
Dane has one goal and one goal only, to be on the professional golf tour. It’s who he is and what he lives for. Women, although fun, aren’t in his long-term plans.
Beverly Whitfield didn’t start off as the confident woman she is today. Teased mercilessly as a child and always feeling second-best, she set out to change her future and is finally putting herself first. Never in her wildest imagination did she think she’d fall for a man with stunning good looks and sex seeping from his pores. And, oh yeah, he plays golf.
To those who say golf is complicated and frustrating, Dane says, “No, that’s love.”

Review
Dane Prescott can give me a golf lesson anytime;)
Gripped was my first read by Joanne Schwehm, and I definitely enjoyed her writing and characters. My preferred perspective when I read is dual first person point of view, which is exactly what readers get in Dane and Beverly’s story. With both characters’ viewpoint, we get a complete look at why both Dane and Beverly don’t do relationships and how the attraction they feel for one another is unlike anything they’ve ever felt.
There are quite a few missteps along the way, which makes sense due to Beverly’s insecurities and Dane’s lifestyle. Golf is Dane’s life; his dream to be a pro is almost realized when he meets Beverly, so any type of relationship they have is going to be a long distance one, and because Dane has never really had a girlfriend, he mishandles some situations, which causes Beverly to doubt his feelings and question if she’ll ever come first in anyone’s life.
Dane Prescott may be a manwhore who can’t even remember the names of the girls he’s had a one night stand with, but with one look at Beverly, he wants to catalog everything about her, which puts him in a difficult situation because no one is going to stand in his way of achieving his goals, but his desire for Beverly and his determination to prove that he’s more than his reputation makes him question exactly what he wants.
Beverly Whitfield has worked hard to become a confident woman after everything she dealt with in high school. She’s an amazing person who gives her time to underprivileged kids, and Dane recognizes how smart, stunning, and giving she is, which is why he fights with her to spend time with him and give him a chance to show her what they can be.
Dane and Beverly’s story is heart warming, steamy, and a bit angsty, and Dane is one hell of a filthy talker who has so much more than just a good set of hands;)
Gripped gives great insight into what determination and hard work can accomplish, both in reaching goals and having a good relationship. It also shows how one’s past may complicate the present, but fighting through those obstacles makes it all worth the pain and heartache.
