RELEASE REVIEW: Ignite by Rebecca Yarros

In Legacy, Colorado, I buried my father alongside his elite Hotshot team.

Ten years later, I’ve followed in his footsteps—fighting fires in the mountains of Alaska with my brother.

Amid the flames, nothing ignites me like Avery Claire.

She’s stubborn, strong, sexy as hell, and my best friend.

She also has no idea that I’m in love with her.

But Colorado is calling me home, needing every Legacy-born firefighter to successfully rebuild our fathers’ team.

One night will change everything between us,

But she’s tied to Alaska and my future is in Colorado.

Now I’m torn between what my honor demands,

And what my heart can’t live without.

For River Maldonado, nothing is more important than following in his father’s footsteps and keeping his legacy alive by fighting fires just like the one that took his father’s life. River lives and breathes his job, but his heart also belongs to his best friend, Avery – the woman he’s wanted for the past 7 years.

For Avery Claire, there’s only one constant in her life…one person, besides her sister, who makes all of her sacrifices worth it…who allows her to see through her father’s mistreatment and her broken dreams in order to be happy and that person’s River.

For the entirety of their friendship, neither River nor Avery has stepped over that  line, but now that there’s so much to lose, crossing that boundary seems worth the gamble as long as Avery decides to live her own life and not allow her head to overthink and hurt her heart.

What ignites between River and Avery will either light a lasting flame or not last through the spark – the choice is theirs.

Rebecca Yarros’ stories always teach valuable lessons about life, family, and love, and the second novella in her Legacy series continues that model. Both River and Avery are family oriented, which means that regardless of how far their families push them, they follow through because that’s who they are. But there comes a point when a person has to live his/her own life and not be controlled or guilt tripped into making decisions that make that person miserable. Because when everything’s said and done, a person’s self worth and happiness will only flourish when s/he does what his/her heart tells him/her to do.

I can’t wait to meet more of Yarros’ legacy boys and witness their strength in battling wildfires and also creating a flame of their own with the woman who owns them, heart and soul.
