The third and final installment in the Unyielding series from the New York Times Best Selling Author Nashoda Rose.

This is Connor’s story.

Consumed by perfect rage.
I was fighting who I’d become and what I’d done.

There was nothing I cared about except her.
She was fuckin’ mine.
But I’d forgotten her—my shutterbug.
And I lost her.

Until now.

I’d do anything to possess her again.
Anything to keep her safe.
Protect her against my biggest opponent.

The monster.

Ever since I finished Perfect Ruin, I’ve been anxiously waiting to get my hands on Perfect Rage, Connor’s story, because I knew it wasn’t going to be easy to transition him back into the living and I also knew that Nashoda Rose was going to tell his story using full disclosure…illustrating every villainous aspect of his drug altered mind and the degradation of a man of honor into an enraged monster whose urge to destroy and rage was all he could feel.

Rose does an amazing job of juxtapositioning the moral, protective, and playful solider Connor was to the cold, harsh emotionless killer he became due to Carlos Moreno’s manipulation and Connor’s imprisonment as the Vault’s test subject. Being able to witness Connor and Alina’s connection before both of their lives turned to hell on earth contrasted with his treatment of her after his alterations solidified the fact that the old Connor was dead, and it was going to take a hell of a lot of work on Connor’s part and on those who love him in order for him to find his way out of the nightmares…out of the fragmented memories…out of the uncontrolled rage that still consumed him even after he no longer received the drugs.

Connor is definitely not an anti-hero because it wasn’t his choice to become the darkened soul that he did, which is why the results of his torture are so horrendous. But the honorable man that he was, was wiped clean…replaced with a man who was “living in blackness splattered with the tainted blood of what he’d done.” In order for Connor to move on…to be undamaged enough to reenter the lives of those he loved, he needed to fight and to take risks, and for most of the story, he’s not at that point yet, which doesn’t mean that he didn’t want to get better…to not feel so much anger, it’s just that he couldn’t control his emotions…he couldn’t rid himself of the darkness…of the damage that was done to him.

Rose illustrates every forward and backward step Connor takes, proving that what he lost would definitely not be found again but also indicating that he wasn’t completely gone and perhaps the fragmented pieces could be altered and fused together, so that the limitless love that he and Alina feel for each other could find a way to rise from the ashes of their scarred souls and fill one another’s lives with dreams instead of nightmares.

I’m absolutely addicted to Nashoda Rose’s storytelling and the way she weaves the darkness and light of the world in stories that are filled with both anguish, deception, and treachery as well as love, honor, and sacrifice. Rose’s characters are multifaceted; she portrays her heroes in a way that illustrates their entire character – the demons and vices they have as well as their commitment to right the wrongs that are done to the lives of those they love and the lives of the innocent.  Her heroines are strong, dedicated, and determined to stand by their man’s side even when it may not be the safe choice because they know that their world is incomplete without their other half, regardless of how imperfect he may be.

I can’t write my review for Perfect Rage without mentioning my love for Deck and his oath to get all of his men home by any means necessary. Deck has proven time and time again that he’s the man you want in your corner when your back’s against the wall and he also has shown how badass he and all of his associates are in righting the wrongs of the world. Rose’s Unyielding series may be complete, but I know that there are a number of badasses who deserve their stories to be told, and I can’t wait to see what she creates for those tortured heroes and the women who will help them heal.
