Blurb
One story. Two couples.
I fell in love with a man who didn’t exist.
What started out as romance ended in hell.
His words turned to razor blades.
His kisses converted to fists.
His embrace became my cage.
His body transformed into a weapon, stealing parts of me until ultimately….
I broke.
I hated him.
My sole job in life became to protect our daughter.
I wasn’t sure I’d ever escape the prison he’d skillfully crafted from my fears.
Until the day our savior arrived.
This is the story of how I escaped the man who thought he owned me.
The transfer of my life and my family.
Review
It’s amazing to me how seamlessly Aly Martinez weaves Roman and Lisabeth’s story with Clare and Heath’s story to clearly illustrate how vital both couples are to one another’s happiness. Without steps taken on both sides, neither one of the pairs stands a chance to climb out of their respective darkness and find a way to move on despite the scars of the past and obstacles of the present.
In Retrieval, Roman and Lissy were able to find their way back to each other despite the loss of a child, loss of themselves, and a divorce that left them apart for two years, but their story wasn’t finished at the end of book one. There were still situations to work out between them and questions that needed to be answered so that they could feel secure in their love and let go of the damage that they did to one another as well as the devastation done to them by other people’s actions.
In Transfer, the storyline shifts to Clare and Heath, but Roman and Lissy are still very much a part of the events in book 2 and responsible for helping Clare move forward after spending 7 years of her life afraid, beaten, and broken. All of Roman and Lissy’s heartache intertwines with Clare’s hell on earth existence, so in allowing Roman and Lissy to find their way back to one another, Aly Martinez provides readers with hope that Clare will also find her happiness and become the woman she once was before Walter Noir destroyed her and broke her into little tiny pieces of who she used to be.
Heath Light is an amazing hero and the perfect man for Clare to find her way back into the light. He gives Clare what she needs and allows her to take it, proving to her that her past life is over and her new one will be everything she deserves.
Aly Martinez’s Retrieval Duet is an amazing story about loss, love, forgiveness, and redemption. Martinez allows her readers to truly understand and feel EVERYTHING that happens to and with the two couples, and she connects their lives in ways that we can see how vital they will be to one another both during and after the threats against them are annihilated. Roman and Lissy and Clare and Heath’s stories will stay with readers long after they’re finished reading because Aly Martinez created a phenomenal plotline and well developed characters who we wholeheartedly feel connected to and want nothing but happiness to surround them for many years to come.
