Blurb
A thief met a possession and did what he did best.
Now, he has to live with the consequences.
Including the girl he claimed.
Pimlico was stolen and sold all before her twenty-first birthday.
Two years with a master who almost killed her is over.
She has a new master now.
A master who demands everything, expects everything, and requires ultimate access to her mind.
Elder broke countless rules when he took the girl who wasn’t his.
She confuses and bewitches him, but his fascination won’t save her from his desires.
He wants to know her.
She wants to forget.
Together…they’re doomed.
For the past two years, Pim has been kidnapped, brutalized, and tortured, and in the process of being victimized, she somehow found a way to cling to hope and assert herself by allowing no one to hear her voice, fighting her battles with silence and keeping that one part of herself as her own despite the repercussions of that act.
Now she finds herself free from her Master’s abuse, but the question of the price of that freedom remains unanswered for both Pim and readers because Elder’s obsession with the silent one is still a puzzle to solve. Elder stole her with no intention of freeing her even if the cost of her captivity is too much for him to bear due to his predilections.
The second installment of Elder and Pim’s story continues to be a battle of wills and a game that doesn’t have rules or a set format, making every move suspect and powerful because there’s no way to truly know how the game will end or if there will be a winner when everything is said and done.
Pepper Winters continues her masterful characterization of Elder and Pim by only allowing a certain amount of enlightenment of who they were/are. Elder remains a mystery, for the most part, because there are so many facets to his personality, and he only bestows certain qualities upon the people who work for him as well as Pim herself.
As the days go by and Pim’s body heals and she begins to understand that being Elder’s captive is much different than how she was treated with her master, she feels torn in two because who she used to be – Tasmin – is just below the surface of her psyche, and even though she’s afraid to show who she really is and even use her voice to prove to herself that she can still have power without her self-imposed silence, the push and pull between her and Elder and Elder’s dismissive nature at times, leaves her in a state of uncertainty.
Elder’s reasons for stealing Pim still remain unclear and as readers witness Elder become unhinged and his control is mastered by a girl who has been battered and bruised, what his need for her mind as well as her desire for him only furthers the quandary of who Elder used to be and what his past means for his future with Pim.
I’m continually amazed by Pepper Winters storytelling…by the ease with which she delves into the darkest parts of human nature and exposes them in a way that illustrates the minuscule cracks that prove that goodness can still be seen in the most evil of places. As Winters continues to tell Elder and Pim’s story, I hope to truly understand who Elder is and what’s at stake for him in terms of his self-control when it comes to Pim remaining by his side. I’m intrigued by how the meaning of the series’ titles personify Elder and Pim’s worth and the price it will ultimately take for Elder to free Pim, if an amount will even allow him to give her up, which, at this point, I’m not sure matters to him at all.

About the Author
Pepper Winters wears many roles. Some of them include writer, reader, sometimes wife. She loves dark, taboo stories that twist with your head. The more tortured the hero, the better, and she constantly thinks up ways to break and fix her characters. Oh, and sex… her books have sex.
She loves to travel and has an amazing, fabulous hubby who puts up with her love affair with her book boyfriends.
