Hoax knows two things very well.

One, he’s not relationship material. Two, the nurse that treats him for erectile dysfunction is the most beautiful thing he’s ever seen, and practically has ‘the marrying type’ stamped on her forehead.

Does that stop him from wanting her? No.

Unfortunately, he learned a long time ago that Army Delta Force and long-lasting relationships don’t go hand in hand.

But beautiful hazel eyes, curly blonde hair, and the prettiest lips he’s ever seen play havoc with his resolve, making him forget his earlier convictions.

All it takes is one teeny, tiny kiss for every shred of control he has to disappear, along with the problem in his pants.

Soon he finds himself doing things that he knows that he shouldn’t. He doesn’t know that he’s found the woman that’s meant to be his. Nor does he realize that her father is the man he’s idolized from the moment he joined the army at the age of eighteen. Because, maybe if he had, he would’ve tried a little harder to ignore the pull he felt between them instead of making her his the night before he deployed for six months.

He also might’ve tried a little harder not to knock her up.

My Review

My Bad is one of my favorite of all Lani Lynn Vale books; it encompasses all aspects of Vale’s writing style and character development that I’ve loved in all of her other stories – the overprotective alpha male, a band of brothers who would lay down their lives for their friends and family, a sassy and stubborn heroine who does’t she herself as others do and finds her foot in her mouth more often than not, an abundance of outrageously funny and suspenseful moments as well as a supporting cast of characters who understand the meaning of friendship and family and prove that fact by refusing to let them down.

The first scene in My Bad is definitely an interesting one, and while I found myself a bit uncomfortable due to Hoax’s ‘situation,’ I also think it speaks to just how ready he might be to find the woman he wants and needs and based on his ‘reaction’ to Nurse Pru, he’s found her…now he just needs to figure out how to keep her.

Hoax and Pru must contend with quite a few obstacles throughout My Bad’s story line, which means as Hoax works to bring down Pru’s barriers, proving he is not just another typical military man, he also has to deal with his recovery from his accident, his impending deployment, his ‘family’ members’ opinion of Pru, as well as the volatile and unsafe working conditions that Pru has to endure in order to keep the job she loves.

Any one of these situations would be difficult to deal with on its own, so the fact that there are so many variables to overcome places more than a little pressure on Hoax and Pru’s new relationship and with how skittish Pru seems to be, it’s more than clear that Hoax has his work cut out for him…I guess it’s a good thing then that he’s used to working hard and fighting against impossible odds as a Delta Force and Bear Bottom Guardians’ member.

So, with his brothers at his back and Hoax’s fierce determination and commitment to claim Pru as his own, there’s nothing he won’t do to prove the kind of man he is to Pru, her family, and himself, especially since this is the first time he’s ever wanted more than one night with a woman, which means that the visceral reaction he has to her from the very beginning is a huge indicator of what Pru will come to mean to this military and motorcycle man.

Hoax and Pru’s story is an entertaining, dramatic, and steamy read that proves that not all men or women are cut from the same cloth and with that knowledge in mind, Hoax and Pru move rather quickly when it comes to what they grow to mean to one another and just how off balance both of them are when the other is not around.

Hoax is definitely a keeper and I’m so glad Pru realized that fairly early on so they could fight together as a team instead of against each other, making everything they face not necessarily easier but at least doable with them standing by one another’s side.
