My Review

‘Fight like your life depends on it.’

This should be the battle cry/mantra of Creed, Sophia, Garett, and all those who protect and support them in S.M. Soto’s Chaos series, and while their entire team has had to endure the physical punishments dispensed at the hands of their enemies, it’s the emotional and mental pain and suffering that are taking the biggest toil on Sophia and the man who helped her heal, trust, and love again – Creed.

In Deception & Chaos, readers witnessed Sophia struggle to dig deep and find the capacity to survive her captivity as well as the influx of maddening emotions and nightmarish thoughts that made her question everything. But Sophia battled on…slowly finding her way back, and even though she will never completely heal, with her brother and her vengeful angel by her side, she would be able to do a lot more than merely exist.

But then the deception of a madman took over, causing a hell of a lot more than simple chaos, and book two, Blood & Chaos, begins in that maelstrom and everyone can’t help but be affected by the brutal betrayal that occurred and the devious plans that have been executed for far longer than anyone anticipated.

And what that means for Creed and Sophia is life altering because not only will he sacrifice everything he came to be/is in order to protect the only woman he has ever loved but his willingness to do so will monumentally redefine both of their lives, separating them in ways they never thought possible and the fallout of what Creed decided with no input from Sophia will make her, once again, question who she is and where she fits in a life she would have never wanted for herself but now desperately wants to hold onto for the sake of her sanity and her heart.

Blood & Chaos, in my opinion, is more Creed’s story than Sophia’s due to the lengths he has/had to go to in order to protect what’s his. Readers witness the rebirth of the Ghost…of the Diavolo Sabella…of the merciless killer who takes vengeance as he deems fit. The monster that Creed, once again, becomes is the one that has always been festering at the surface, and now that it has a reason to be unleashed, no one/nothing will stop him from his deadly mission.

In Book Two, S.M. Soto takes readers deep into Creed’s old world, where the badass alpha male he is was born, and as Soto explores exactly what Creed has committed to by asking for help for Sophia, it’s clear that there’s only one way out for Creed, and it’s one that readers and Sophia do not want. But what that means for Creed and Sophia’s future, especially given all the new information and insights we receive as the story progresses, is very much in limbo, and I desperately need book three so I can see how everything is resolved – good, bad, or ugly.
