about the book

Her cheating ex deserves to see her living her best life; a one-night-stand with a hot South African soccer player would be the perfect revenge. Right?

Wrong. Allie is so, so wrong.

On and off the field he’s at the top of his game. Roan respects hard-work, dedication—and follow through. He’s not a one and done kind of man, and he’s far from being done with Allie Harris.

One sexy night and two years later, Allie’s job brings her back to town. An opportunity for the perfect replay Roan has been fantasizing about since they slept together.

Allie Harris has a secret; one she’s been keeping from Roan all this time. Digital proof of their one night together—taken without his consent.

Will Allie’s payback plan come back to bite them both? Or can she erase her past mistake and embrace a new future with Roan?

Loving everything about her. Beautiful young couple bonding and

I feel like I need to walk down the road and have people yell ‘Shame!’ ‘Shame!’ at me because, hangs head in shame while also protecting my face, Payback is my first Amy Daws’ sports romance…my first Amy Daw’s book period.

But before avid Daws’ readers pass judgment on me, I do have to say that I just checked my Kindle content, and I have 8 of Amy Daws’ books! So, it’s not that I haven’t heard of her; it’s just that I need more time in the day…in the week…in the month…in the year to get through my ARCs, my proofreading, and my content editing books, so I can hit my endless TBR list.

I can wholeheartedly say, though, now that I finished Payback, Allie and Roan’s story, I’m going to find time to check out her other stories, especially the ones that center around this awesome Harris family and a group of sexy alpha males who give it their all both on and off the field.

The way Allie Harris and Roan DeWalt meet, the reason behind Allie’s request for a blind date, and the circumstances that arise after said night together becomes more than either of them could have imagined, and while the fact that Allie is only in London for a few days definitely prevents anything substantial from developing between them, let’s just say that it’s not only the distance that stands in the way of Allie and Roan committing to each other, but by the time that information is shared, one or both could already be in too deep, which then has the power to destroy so much more than just their feelings for one another.

The title, while ominous, only depicts one aspect of the story, and the revenge that Allie wants to exact on her ex and her stepsister actually becomes insignificant the more time she spends with Roan and the deeper her feelings for him grow. But here’s the thing about someone feeling betrayed…it’s not a logical emotion, which means that reactions are what drives it and then if it’s never truly dealt with, it has a tendency to fester, preventing an open wound from closing and also disallowing one’s ability to move on.

Because there’s a two year gap between Allie and Roan’s blind date and the second chance they get to be together, Amy Daws is able to illustrate Allie’s growth from a woman who is determined to make those who betrayed her pay for their sins to a woman who has more than learned the meaning of family and the value of finding your person. I have to say it takes a hell of a lot of courage and strength to go through with a plan like the one Allie made for payback, but as much as I understood the hurt and grief that Allie felt, I do wish she would have come clean much sooner, especially when her connection with Roan clearly demonstrated where they were headed. I can’t fault her for her desire for closure, but I do think she went about the wrong way of handling it because it had the ability to implode her life and potentially lose everything that she had worked so hard to obtain.

Roan is such the swoon worthy hero; the way he lives his life…the way he helps his mom and sisters…everything about him will only add to readers’ obsession with him

The Harris brothers definitely have me intrigued; they’re exactly the rough and in your face guys I expected, and the fact that they protect their own, regardless of what happened or why, they’re the ones responsible for showing Allie what family does for each other and their hijinks are also what kept me quite entertained when they were a part of the scenes.

The sense of belonging…of finding one’s true home…of creating unbreakable familial bonds are the overarching themes in Payback, and while Allie may have gone about things in the wrong way, in the end, she learns the lessons she needs to while also figuring out exactly where she needs to be and who she needs to be with, regardless of the work that has to be put in, in order to accomplish that feat.

Amy Daws has absolutely made me a fan of her storytelling and of her characters, and I can’t wait dive into her other series and learn everything I can about these Harris brothers as well as the other heroes and heroines who grace the pages of her books.

4.5 Poison Apples

Without warning, my uncle pushes open a set of double doors and leads me into a changing room full of…

Naked. Soccer players.

Butt naked, wet or sweaty—I can’t quite tell—soccer players.

I catch sight of one guy flicking a towel at the bare ass of another, so I duck my head and shield my gaze. Good-god, if I’m caught ogling several hanging members being swung about all willy-nilly, I’ll be sure to lose my job! Be cool, Allie. Be cool. You’re one of the guys! And you’ve seen penises before!

I stumble behind Vaughn, who doesn’t miss a step as he continues marching on, walking past loads more of naked soccer players positioned at their lockers. Seriously, why are they all completely naked? Don’t they get cold? I thought shrinkage was a real thing! Nothing in this room is shrunken. Shranked? Whatever…I can’t grammar right now, there’s dicks everywhere!

Vaughn rounds a corner to another set of lockers and states firmly, “Here we are.”

I look up just as my high heel catches on something beneath me. I make a move to extract it, but my foot hooks on to whatever it is, holding my leg hostage while my body continues propelling forward. Letting out a yelp, I brace myself for an epic tumble.

But instead of falling down on the concrete flooring like I thought I would, I end up face planting into a chest. A very manly chest. A very manly, naked chest, whose pecs feel like two smooth boulders tensing beneath my twitching fingers that are currently clinging on for dear life.

“Ag, careful…That bag’s a biter,” a familiar voice murmurs on the top of my head as two very large hands wrap around my waist.

I look up and every organ in my body does a somersault as I stare up into the gorgeously pale brown eyes of Roan DeWalt. My one-night-stand.

Who’s apparently not at all worried about shrinkage.
