I don’t read a lot of taboo stories, but it’s not because of their forbidden aspects…I just don’t read/review a ton of books anymore since I’ve been editing for a few years and I usually gear my selective ARCs toward the categories I enjoy the most. But I had seen a few bloggers I’m friends with talk about Q.B. Tyler and her writing, so I thought I would give it a go, and I’m so glad that I did.

I get that taboo romances aren’t for everyone, and I’ll admit that there are some forbidden stories that are written in a way that just doesn’t convey all the emotions and details needed to truly understand why the relationship occurred the way it did and continued on, focusing solely on the sexual dalliances and how sexually compatible they are but not much else.

Which is why I appreciate how Q.B. Tyler crafts Stassia and Dominic’s story in Love Unexpected, and while it took me a bit to get past the fact that he was her stepfather since she was ten years old, the way that Tyler expresses the conflicting feelings that both the hero and heroine are feeling as the pull between them becomes too much for them not to give into provides a complete picture of what they’re both struggling with, on top of dealing with the loss of Stassia’s mother.

And holy shit can Q.B. write hawt as hell sex scenes! Stassia and Dominic’s sexual compatibility and the time they take to explore each other’s bodies singes those pages of the story and will definitely lead to quite a few readers being all hot and bothered.

I can say with 100% certainty that this will not be my last Q.B. Tyler read because the way she delivers her characters’ perspectives and emotions along with their interactions keeps the story line intriguing and properly paced.
