My Review
Recreating, in a contemporary way, a beloved piece of literature is a difficult task, one that doesn’t seem to work a lot of the time because it’s either a carbon copy or what similarities that are there don’t speak to the true nature of the books, but Skye Warren achieves that arduous balance of maintaining the classic feel, atmosphere of Jane Eyre while also modernizing language, characters, and the world in which they dwell.
This is a trilogy, as the series name suggests, Rochester Trilogy, which means that book one ends with a few discoveries revealed but there is still much more to come and with the amount of secrets that both Beau Rochester and Jane Mendoza seem to have, there’s no telling just what will be unraveled and the series continues and the characters’ relationships become more than games of cat and mouse…they become important and worthwhile and almost sustaining but they’re always tested, always challenged in a way that could be the end or just the beginning, depending on how new information is handled.
I’m always so enchanted with the worlds that Skye Warren creates and the dynamics at play in them. Nothing is what it seems in a lot of ways and it’s up to the main characters to unravel the truths behind all the masks as well as decide whether to give in to temptation or fight against the chemistry that seems ready to explode.
Beau and Jane’s story is just beginning, and I, for one, am excited to see where Warren takes them and us.
