My Review

I’m a huge fan of Sawyer Bennett’s alter ego Juliette Poe’s sweet and sassy side, and I was beyond excited to head back to the small town of Whynot, North Carolina because I’ve been waiting for Larkin Mancinkus’ story ever since being introduced to and getting to know her in previous books. This sweet as sugary baker deserves her happily ever after, just like the rest of her siblings have found, and I was eager to see who Poe brought to Whynot for that very reason.

Like Poe’s other leading ladies, Larkin is an adorable and quirky heroine – one who is more reserved than most and doesn’t see herself as the amazing and beautiful woman she is. Larkin desperately wants to find her ‘person,’ especially after watching and helping her other siblings find theirs, but with her quiet nature and self-doubt, that’s easier said than done, which means that the man who sees her as the perfect woman for him will have his work cut out for him.

Enter Deacon Locke…

Deacon’s a nomad, a wanderer – one who has never set down roots because he likes the freedom of leaving whenever he wants, but Whynot just might offer him something that no other place has – a woman he can’t get enough of and just might be willing to stay in one place to keep Larkin by his side. Deacon’s exterior persona does not truly illustrate the man he is; on the outside, he comes off as a dangerous bad boy, but there’s so much more to him than the biker vibes he gives off, and his true personality comes out when he sets his sights on Larkin.

Larkin’s Sweet Cakes Bakery has always been a breeding ground for all of Whynot’s gossip, which means that Larkin’s privy to everything that’s happening to its inhabitants, even when it comes to herself and a certain alpha male staying at her brother’s Bed & Breakfast. This aspect of the story was hilarious and it illustrated just how quickly information spreads in a place like Whynot, even when the townspeople would rather it didn’t.

Gimme Some Sugar is a sweet and humorous read that includes the right amount of angst to offset all of the sugary sweetness that resonates from the characters’ interactions and feelings. The insight readers get about Deacon’s past adds to his complexity and also proves why he prefers to not settle down in one place, but Whynot and Larkin are game changers for him, and even though there’s a bit of doubt in regards to Deacon’s permanence in Whynot; I never doubted once he found his ‘home,’ he would plant his feet and watch his life grow around him.

COVER REVEAL: Coming Up Roses by Staci Hart

Coming Up Roses, an all-new enemies to lovers romantic comedy from Staci Hart is coming August 1st, and we have the beautiful cover!

CUR-ebook.jpg

Everyone hates parts of their job.

Maybe it’s the paperwork. Maybe it’s the day-to-day grind. Maybe it’s that client who never knows what they want, or the guy who always cooks fish in the microwave.

But not me. I love every corner of the Longbourne Flower Shop, every flower, every petal, every stem. I love the greenhouse, and I love Mrs. Bennet, my boss. I love creating, and I love being a florist. I don’t hate anything at all.

Except for Luke Bennet.

The Bennet brothers have come home to help their mom save the flower shop, and Luke is at the helm. His smile tells a tale of lust, loose and easy. He moves with the grace of a predator, feral and wild. A thing unbridled, without rules or constraint.

When he comes home to save Longbourne, I almost can’t be mad at him.

Almost.

He doesn’t remember that night I’ll never forget. That kiss, touched with whiskey and fire. It branded me like a red-hot iron. But it meant nothing to him.

Everyone hates part of their job, and I hate Luke Bennet.

Because if I don’t, I’ll fall in love with him.

About Staci

Staci has been a lot of things up to this point in her life — a graphic designer, an entrepreneur, a seamstress, a clothing and handbag designer, a waitress. Can’t forget that. She’s also been a mom, with three little girls who are sure to grow up to break a number of hearts. She’s been a wife, though she’s certainly not the cleanest, or the best cook. She’s also super, duper fun at a party, especially if she’s been drinking whiskey.

From roots in Houston to a seven year stint in Southern California, Staci and her family ended up settling somewhere in between and equally north, in Denver. They are new enough that snow is still magical. When she’s not writing, she’s reading, sleeping, gaming, or designing graphics.

BLOG TOUR REVIEW AND EXCERPT: SLAY: RIVALRY (Slay Quartet #1) by Laurelin Paige

SLAY: RIVALRY (Slay Quartet #1) by Laurelin Paige

Release Date: June 4th

Blurb

Edward Fasbender is a devil.

He’s my father’s business rival, a powerful, vicious man who takes what he wants and bows to no one. I only took the meeting because I was curious. I thought he was going to offer me a job.

But that’s not what he’s after at all. His proposal is much more intriguing, and I see an opportunity. An opportunity to turn the tables and bring down the devil.

I’ve gotten in trouble playing these games before. I know when the risk is too great, when the stakes are too high. I know how to be cold and strong-willed and destructive. I know how to withstand dominant men with arrogant charm and rugged features.

Yet I can’t resist taking on Edward.

And I can’t resist the pull he has on me.

Soon I’m not so sure which side of the battle I’m standing on–if I’m the warrior meant to slay,

Or the one who will be slain.

My Review

Before I start my review for book one in Laurelin Paige’s Slay Quartet, I need to be upfront with my feelings for Paige’s newest heroine…it even hurts my heart to call Celia Werner that because I never thought that the woman who made one of my favorite book couples of all time (Alayna and Hudson Pierce) lives’ hell with her spiteful and vindictive ways would ever be viewed as a central character, let alone one who, ultimately, would find her happily ever after, even if it’s by walking through fire and brimstone.

But that’s exactly the role Paige has penned for Celia, has been penned to play, so despite my disdain and loathing for her, I attempted to have an open mind about where Paige planned to take Celia and her readers in her latest release, and I have to say while I still don’t like her, I feel like I have a better understanding of who Celia Werner was when she and Hudson played their ‘games’ and the woman she is now, and with this new development in her life and the fact that someone else is actually playing a game against her – one that she doesn’t seem to know the rules of or can’t quite figure out how to play the creator of this new game – changes the woman she had worked so hard to portray and puts her in a rather precarious position – one that she’s not used to being in nor likes one bit, and I have to admit, I enjoyed watching her squirm…watching her feel overwhelmed, and while I don’t like the devil who has invaded her life with his own agenda and playbook, finding out that Celia isn’t as unfeeling as she’s always portrayed herself to be makes it quite interesting to be in her head space!

I wholeheartedly feel that the Celia Werner that readers were introduced to and detested in the Fixed series is nothing like the one we get in SLAY because even at the beginning of the book, when she’s determined to land her next ‘victim’ or do something else to get her out of her funk for lack of a better word, the fact that she reveals the reasons behind her need to not feel…her need to ‘run on nothingness and feast on void,’ it changes the picture of who she truly is…it lowers the mask, but what it also does is open up a multitude of questions as to why she chose to live her life that way and why everything changes when Mr. Edward M. Fasbender enters her life and proposes a new game for her to play, but it’s not one she’s ever played before and since he seems to be in complete control, constantly testing her and forcing her to play right into his hands, what the end game is for either of them is still too early to predict.

The devil has definitely come to play and as much as Celia likes to believe she’s a fiery dragon who will burn any adversary who gets in her way, Edward has the ability to stifle her fire and treat her as a broken bird – one he can easily manipulate and force her acquiescence at every stage of the game.

The Game is most definitely own, and unlike all of the other games Celia has played, she’s quite the underdog in this one, so readers will have to see as the series and the game continues, who has the advantage/upper hand when everything is said and done!

Excerpt

Sitting like this, on the arm of the chair, his back straight, we were practically the same height. It occurred to me that this was the closest we’d ever been to having equal footing, and somehow that made me both heady and encouraged.

I reached out to rub the collar of his shirt between my thumb and forefinger, my breath stuttering under the thick weight of apprehension, my mouth watering from how close I was to touching his skin. This close, I could smell the liquor on his breath and the musky scent of his cologne and the fainter scent underneath of pure man.

“Tell me your requests.” Was it my imagination or did his voice suddenly seem darker? Less steady?

“There’s only one.” I leaned in until my lips were near his ear. “I want to add sex to the deal.”

He made a sound low in his throat, half like a laugh, half like a moan. “What, now?”

He turned his face toward mine, and now our mouths were only inches away from touching. I could feel the warmth of his exhale on my skin, sending a trail of goosebumps down my arms.

“Now, sure.” Fuck, I was wet already. “But I meant in the marriage, too.”

His lips danced around mine. “You don’t know what you’re asking for. You want to be humiliated, degraded, and hurt?”

Yes.

Because that was the goal of The Game.

But, also, YES!

Because, in that moment, there was nothing more I could imagine wanting than to be all those things, to be humiliated and degraded and hurt, by him. I wanted it so much I ached. Ached in places I hadn’t known could feel.

I reached my neck forward, pushing my mouth toward his.

Just when I thought the kiss was inevitable, he leaned back. “You couldn’t handle it.”

RELEASE PROMO AND REVIEW: Exquisitely Broken by M. Jay Granberry

Release Day Banner EB

ExquisitelyBroken_NowAvailable

MeganRD-2

Exquisitely Broken is a second chance romance set in the glittery world of Las Vegas, Nevada.

Four years ago, one bad decision irrevocably destroyed a six-year relationship. There are some mistakes you can’t get over, some things that an apology can’t fix.

Sinclair James walked away from Jacob Johnson with her heart in pieces and her pride in shreds. She took the pain of betrayal and harnessed it, turned it into a bestselling album that changed her life. She was no longer the girl defined by what she didn’t have because she had everything, money, fame, an award-winning album. But there was always something missing. Some small shard of what use to be.

Now she’s back, her band unknowingly signing a yearlong residency to work for a new hotel on the Las Vegas Strip and subsequently Jacob Johnson.

Back in the same city, working for the same hotel, sparks that had died to embers suddenly burst into flame. Jacob finally has a second chance to remind Sinclair just how good they were, just how good they can be again.

This time he refuses to her go. He can’t. He works to prove to Sinclair he’s worth a second chance. That sometimes love can be enough to erase a disastrous past and embrace a promising future.

History seems to repeat itself as outside forces seem determined to keep them apart. But in the end their love proves strong enough to overcome the past and blaze the way for their future.

My Review

When I read the blurb for M. Jay Granberry’s debut romance, the two ideas I took away from it…the two reasons why I immediately wanted to get my hands on an ARC, were that Exquisitely Broken is set in Las Vegas and it’s a second chance love story, and if you’ve been reading my reviews, I clearly have a thing for soulmates getting another shot at forever.

Then, as I learned more about Sinclair James and Jacob Johnson’s history as well as where their lives were currently headed, I couldn’t wait to see how Granberry brought these two back together after the pain of Jake’s betrayal and how easily it seemed for Sin to walk away from the only man she ever loved.

In order to understand exactly where Sin and Jake’s relationship went wrong in the end, it’s necessary to see where they began, over a decade ago, and with that knowledge, it becomes clear that, even back then, there were so many obstacles for them to overcome and because they led such different lives with different interests and different paths to follow, the fact that they lost their way, acted out of spite, and refused to communicate six years into their relationship illustrates exactly why they’ve spent the last four years apart. But even after they broke each other’s hearts, their love never truly died and now with Sin’s band signed on to do a residency at Jake’s hotel/casino, it just might be the chance they’d never thought they’d have to let go of the past and move forward together, like they always thought they would.

I’ll be honest…I didn’t want to like Jake; in fact, for the first half of his and Sin’s story, I didn’t want Sin to take him back in any capacity. What he did broke her heart and fractured her soul in a way that’s never been repaired. But as the story went on, and Granberry allowed Jake’s voice to be heard, his perspective to be provided, I understood a bit better why he did what he did and what that act of betrayal cost, not just Sin, but him as well. I also have to say that the way he addressed Sin’s inability to fight for something worth it and how easily she ran away when things got difficult made sense to me and allowed me to see everything in a clearer light, even though I still found it difficult to get past what he did to her and their love.

Sin is such a beautiful soul and there’s a presence about her, not just because she’s stunning, but because she seems comfortable in her own skin and she’s not afraid to be who she is, even if people don’t like it. The fact that she uses her music to attempt to soothe her soul after things end between her and Jake fits the girl/woman that she is. The band’s first album, Exquisitely Broken, is Sin’s personal story – it’s the outlet she used to deal with the pain that Jake caused her. It’s a song…an anthem for the brokenhearted, and the lyrics become a battle cry – a way to release everything that coiled up inside her and demanded a way out – a necessary way to purge the painful memories. Her music is her lifeline…it’s the language she uses to speak to her fans, to herself, to anyone who has ever felt like her or been in similar situations and that idea resonates throughout the entire story line.

M. Jay Granberry crafted a steamy, angsty, and soulful second chance romance in her debut novel. I enjoyed reading Sin and Jake’s story, and I’m crossing my fingers that she’ll give me Adam and Seth’s story because I’m desperate for some insight on those two!

“Get up, Jake.” I’m surprised when she offers me a hand. Our fingers intertwine, and for the first time in days, I feel the frayed edges of my world begin to knit back together. I get to my feet, and she immediately drops my hand as if the contact burned.

“What do you want?” Her arms wrap tight around her middle like she’s trying to hold herself together.

I’m finally face-to-face with Sin and I’ve got… nothing. My brain is blank. Every practiced speech and contrite apology are gone. My eyes are glued to hers and fuck me, I can’t think of one word. After holding my gaze for a little less than a breath, her eyes glaze over with tears, and her teeth sink into her bottom lip to stop the trembling.

She takes a step back over the threshold, doorknob in her hand, preparing to close the door in my face.

“Hold on.” I press a palm against the door, keeping it cracked, to wedge myself between the opening. I close the space between us. The need to feel her, smell her, be in her space, and have her in mine propelling me forward. My hand slides around the back of her neck pulling her toward me. She stumbles into my arms and trips over her own feet, but like every other time we’ve touched, it’s right.

Finally, the pressure in my chest lets up, and I breathe easy. I rest my forehead against hers and whisper against her lips, “I still want you, Sin. Only you.” I close my eyes against the accusations in hers. This close, her breath is co-mingled with mine, and I can smell the faint scent of almond from her shampoo.

“Come back home,” I beg. My lips move over hers, but she doesn’t kiss me back. “I need you. I need us.” I breathe out on a plea.

This time when I seek her lips, she yields but it’s not with sweet abandon. It’s stiff and tinged with regret. This kiss is heartbreak played out with the brush of lips and the slide of tongues.

And it hurts.

Our lips pull apart and I let out shuddered breath as my heart finally rips completely apart. Instinctively I tighten my arms around her, trying to keep her close, but she pulls back. The air slips between us as easy as a knife through butter. I know what’s coming. Good-bye.

MeganRD

53541731_1099461780241547_3728169167845588992_n

M. Jay Granberry is first and foremost an insatiable reader.

Among her favorite things are classic fairy tales, smutty books where characters have heart, old lady sweaters (preferably chunky knit), gift baskets (giving not receiving), and charcuterie trays (green olives, smoked cheese, and Genoa salami).

She is a true Las Vegas native, the one in Nevada not New Mexico, and to answer the most frequently asked questions about growing up in Sin City…

No, she doesn’t live in a hotel.

No, she has never been a stripper although she does know some.

Prostitution is absolutely illegal in Clark County (Las Vegas)!

And what happens in Vegas does indeed stay in Vegas.

M. Jay earned a degree in words and stories, and after fifteen plus years of doing everything other than writing, she penned her first novel.

Giving a voice to characters, that are strong yet fragile, that are sometimes uncomfortably real, that express love in dirtiest ways with the sweetest sentiments is honestly a dream come true.

Some girls like things that are destructive, and toxic. Things that fuel our bodies with adrenaline and bring our demons to their knees.

They say magic isn’t real, but it’s it the closest way to describe love? It doesn’t exist physically. It merely exists around us, within us, possessing our souls and making us do stupid shit. I’m not just in the middle of this game, I’m helping orchestrate it. Can the cries of my aching soul be enough to drown out the burning embers of my mistakes?

REVIEW BLAST: HIDE YOUR CRAZY by Lani Lynn Vale

Blurb

I’m kind of a lady, but definitely more of a weirdo.

Hearing the woman at the table behind him say that to her friend should’ve turned Logan Gibbs off.

It doesn’t. In all honesty, it only makes him listen harder.

He’s had enough weird in his life to last a lifetime. The last thing his complicated life needs is a woman in it who has no clue what color you get when you mix yellow and blue together.

Yet, her obvious blonde moments aren’t enough to deter him. Nor is her lack of finger-painting skills.

I’m a cop, not a miracle worker.

Hearing the man in the group behind her say that should’ve had Katy Roberts running away as fast as her feet would carry her. Katy’s father’s a cop, and it’s hard enough to live her life with Daddy trying to dictate her every move. She needs another cop in her life like she needs yet another thing to go wrong.

To add onto that, she can’t find a job, has no love life to speak of, and has to be the oldest known virgin in Kilgore, Texas.

Yet, when she sees his painting—a painting that resembles a piece of the male anatomy more than the lighthouse they were supposed to be painting—she knows that she has to give him a chance.

The very last thing the two of them expect is for her father and his boss to force them to marry after an eensy-weensy accident. An accident that, surprisingly, both of them want.

My Review

The past always seems to have a way of interfering in the lives of Vale’s characters, whether it’s a series of bad choices or mistakes, guilt over things that seem to be holding on regardless of how long it’s been or the fact that they’re not to blame, or old flames/off-kilter people of the opposite sex who don’t understand that they’re not wanted anymore. All of these things have a way of impeding any forward progress for the hero and heroine’s relationship, and while having a supportive family around is supposed to be seen as a positive, it also can become a burden when those people think they know best or demand that they follow the path laid out for them, not the one they would have chosen for themselves.

In Vale’s new series, KPD Motorcycle Patrol, readers are brought back to Kilgore, Texas, and introduced to the next generation of characters whose stories have already been told. The heroine, Katy Roberts, is the daughter of Luke Roberts from Center Mass and her leading guy is Logan Gibbs, a police officer himself and one who works for Katy’s dad. From the start of the story, it’s clear that these two really have no business taking up with each other, but the body and heart want what they want, and for some reason, one that neither Katy nor Logan fully understand, they’re drawn to one another and are willing to fight the odds and those who don’t approve of their relationship to be together.

But here’s the thing…both Katy and Logan have a whole heaping mound of baggage in the form of crazy exes and somewhat overbearing families, which means that their lives are challenging enough on their own, but blending their two lives together and all that comes with them, hiding their crazy, whether it be of their own doing or the actions of others, is damn near impossible, meaning they’re going to be tested time and time again and how these two react in those situations and how they come out of them will speak to who Katy and Logan truly are and just how much there is to them than most people know or care to understand.

By now, it should be beyond clear just how much I love Lani Lynn Vale’s books, and from the beginning, my pull to her stories had a lot to do with the flawed and quirky characters she creates as well as the sense of family that is built in to every series and every book written. Vale’s series center around headstrong, dependable, and gorgeous alpha males who all protect and serve in some capacity and feel the need to control everything in their lives, even their women to a certain degree. And the women Vale matches her heroes up with seem, at times, like hot messes who would be more of a headache than anything else, but it’s their eccentricities and unique personalities that draw their guys in and make them willing to do just about anything to stand by their side.

Katy and Logan’s story is a great start to this new series, and I can’t wait for more!

My Review

In 2013, I came across S.L. Scott, a new-to-me author, and her Welcome to Paradise series and then I proceeded to devour Mallory and Evan’s story, not only because the story is set in Hawaii, which is one amazing backdrop for a summer romance, but also because I thoroughly enjoyed the evolution of their relationship and the fact that what should have been nothing but a sexy and sweaty one-night stand turned into something they both desperately wanted, even if they lived thousands of miles apart and their respective pasts made them hesitant to go all in with their true feelings towards each other.

Mallory and Evan’s story holds a special place in my heart; it’s what led me to be a huge fan of S.L. Scott’s storytelling and it also was one of the first series I read once I found my way back to reading after being away from the book world for quite some time.

So, while I was a little sad that Scott was changing the series’ covers and titles, I knew I would get to revisit Mallory and Evan’s story, remembering all the reasons I loved the ups and downs and twists and turns these two went through as they worked to make a go at a relationship despite their differences, outside interference, and the emotional baggage that they both seem to carry with them.

And with Redeeming the Playboy and Loving the Playboy releasing in quick succession, the fact that I don’t have to wait to continue my stroll down memory lane makes it that much better!

BLOG TOUR REVIEW AND EXCERPT: Pretty Scars by CD Reiss

PS - BT banner.jpg

“A gripping, sensual and darkly romantic masterpiece.”– Frolic

Pretty Scars, Carrie Drazen’s long awaited love story from New York Times bestselling author CD Reiss, is available now!

Pretty Scars FOR WEB

In Carrie Drazen’s diamond-studded world, beauty is everything: a blessing, a commodity, and a curse. Her beauty got her past the velvet ropes and into New York’s high society, but it ripped her away from the man she loved and chained her to an unbearable life.

Then, in a single night, a song played by a mysterious and secretive musician carries her back to a past ripe with possibilities, when love could open any door.

Who is this anonymous performer?

How can a man she’s never met tell the story of a boy she loved with such precision?

She needs to know. But sometimes masks exist for a reason, and this unveiling could scar them both.

My Review

I CANNOT get enough of CD Reiss’ Drazen family’s stories. The authentic voice that Reiss uses for each one of her Drazen characters allows readers to, not only understand the world that they live in but also the reasons for their lifestyle choices and the precarious positions they find themselves in, sacrificing their happiness, even the loves of their lives, due to extenuating circumstances as well as outside forces they can’t control or even identify.

In Pretty Scars, readers get Carrie Drazen’s story and the title alone indicates the fact that Carrie’s life doesn’t go as planned, finding herself in a life she wouldn’t have chosen for herself, and even though fate stepped in to allow her to meet a man who seemed to be the love of her life, the freewill of others forced her to lose everything that mattered, leaving her with nothing but her beauty, which is both a blessing and a curse, and only gives her so much in return and nothing of any substance.

Even though Gabriel brought light to Carrie’s darkened world, the love between them couldn’t survive everything that these two seemed to be up against, which sends them down much different paths, destroying most of the hope Carrie once had and forcing her to endure a life that she would have never chosen for herself. It’s difficult to witness all the ways that Carrie is used as a pawn and she frustrated me a number of times throughout the course of Pretty Scars because I wanted her to truly see what was happening and fight harder for the life that she wanted for herself. But I also understand the lack of control she has and because Reiss takes readers back to two years ago when everything begins for Carrie and Gabriel and then forward to the present and everything that Carrie must deal with, it makes sense why Carrie’s too far encased in the darkness and unwilling to hope for a future of her own choosing.

What I love most about Reiss’ storytelling is the way in which she threads multiple story lines together in a way that both boggles the mind due to its complexity and leaves readers in awe with how cohesively she unravels every strain to shed light on the main conflict as well as explain how events and words said in the past both complicate and lend hope to the characters’ present and their future as well.

Pretty Scars is not an easy read; most of Reiss’ books push readers to their limits, but that’s what makes her stories so addicting and so thought provoking, which is exactly why I can’t wait for more from this author!

4.5 Poison Apples

Excerpt

After four years at USC, I knew how to survive. I went to the University Village mall, where Earl the security guard liked to hear me play.

I needed to practice anyway.

“Play that Stravinsky thing, would you?” I’d educated Earl in the ways of classical composers and he turned out to have a great ear. He always had a request.

“You got it.”

“Gonna miss your playing after you graduate,” he said as I set up my case.

“I’ll miss the acoustics in here.”

“Where you going?” he asked.

“New York.” I drew the bow across the strings and made an adjustment.

“Big Apple. You got a job there?”

“Not yet. But that’s where the opportunities are.”

He shook his head not as a negation, but with a rueful look back at youth.

When I started playing the piece Earl liked, I wasn’t looking to fall in love. I wasn’t looking to get tied down. I hadn’t fallen in love since Babette, and that was fine. Making a name for myself as a musician would take up all my time.

The acoustics in the front hall of University Village were outstanding. My eyes were closed as I played, listening for off tones and missed notes. I was in perfect flow. My fingers acted before my mind could correct, so my ears made adjustments. The conversations, the clattering food trays, the dim Muzak in the speakers were miles away.

There was no reason for me to open my eyes, but I did, and that changed everything.

She changed everything.

Standing with her friend, red hair covering her face as she rooted around her bag, she looked up just as I saw her, as if my gaze had called out.

USC is full of the children of actors, models, and athletes. My friend Danny said you couldn’t swing a dead cat without hitting something fuckable.

But she wasn’t fuckable.

Not exactly.

She was more.

Calling her beautiful illustrated the inadequacy of language. She was a melody. A perfect symphony. The final crescendo in a masterpiece written by a genius. Taking my eyes off her would be impossible. All the air in the room bent in her direction and emanated from her as if she owned it.

And still, my fingers did their job, filling the room with music that had been written for her before she was born.

She was impossible. Eternal. Divine.

Nothing like her should exist anywhere but Olympus.

With a little smile, she dropped a bill in my case and walked out with her friend, getting momentarily lost in the afternoon sun.

I stopped playing to watch her go.

“You got a day’s worth out of her,” Earl said from behind his podium.

“Yeah,” I said, assuming he was talking about her looks.

“You gonna get greedy and keep playing?”

“Huh?”

He pointed at my case with its dotting of loose change and a single, rolled up bill. I picked up the cash. Benjamin Franklin stared at me with a sly smile.

That couldn’t be right. Even if it was, I couldn’t take it. Not from another student. Not from anyone who wasn’t Bill Gates.

Looking out the glass doors, I saw her and her friend make their way to the crosswalk and wait for the light.

“You okay?” Earl asked with a knowing smile. “Or did that pretty thing shake you?”

“I’m shaken,” I said, grabbing the pen off his clipboard. I scrawled my number on the bill and handed back the pen. “Save my spot.”

“Will do.”

I dropped my violin in the case and snapped it shut, losing a spray of pennies and dimes, grabbed my bag and case, and ran after her.

About CD Reiss

CD Reiss is a New York Times bestseller. She still has to chop wood and carry water, which was buried in the fine print. Her lawyer is working it out with God but in the meantime, if you call and she doesn’t pick up she’s at the well hauling buckets.

Born in New York City, she moved to Hollywood, California to get her master’s degree in screenwriting from USC. In case you want to know, that went nowhere but it did give her a big enough ego to write novels.

She’s frequently referred to as the Shakespeare of Smut which is flattering but hasn’t ever gotten her out of chopping that cord of wood.

If you meet her in person, you should call her Christine.

My Review

For Satisfaction Guaranteed, Lauren Blakely dives back into telling the majority of the story through the male perspective, and boy have I missed the way she takes on the hero’s point of view and runs with it, delving into male idiosyncrasies, their say it like it is mentality, and their competitive nature that seems to come out regardless of the situation or the absurdity of circumstances.

And, the fact that there’s already an established past between Malone and Sloane makes the plot that much more intriguing because I find myself more invested in story lines where the hero and heroine have a second chance to be together, and even though these two only spent a week in each other’s lives, it was clear just how much an impression they made on each other and the fact that they never stopped thinking about their time together, even 7 years later.

Malone is definitely one sexy and total package book boyfriend; he’s a vet, which means he loves and cares for animals, but he’s also a lounge singer, crooning out the classics and seducing women with his voice and his sex appeal. It’s clear that Sloan has remained on his mind during the years apart, so when she reenters his life and wears her feelings for him on her sleeve, there’s not much Malone won’t do to have Sloan back in his life and in his bed because the sizzling chemistry between them forces their hand in more ways than one.

As much as I enjoyed Malone and Sloane, I have to admit that I adored Truly, and I’m beyond excited to get her story.

Satisfaction Guaranteed is a quick, light, steamy read that oozes sexuality and attraction and proves just how much satisfaction Malone and Sloane provide each other even after several years apart.

Excerpt

I meet Sloane’s gaze then go for it. Because this night has only one destination. “We should go to Tahiti.”

“Tonight?”

“Too long a flight?”

She lets go of my hand and holds up her thumb and forefinger. “Maybe a little. Not that I’m turning down a trip to Tahiti. Wait? Are you saying you want to take me to Tahiti? Because I can pack like that.”

Smiling, I slide my hand to her ass, squeezing. I whisper roughly in her ear, “I’m saying I’d like to escape with you. Like we’re getting away for the night. Let’s fuck away all this hot, wild desire.”

She exhales then goes quiet, perhaps lost in thought. “But I thought we were going to resist kissing.”

I brush the backs of my fingers along her jaw. “We already failed that test.”

She pouts. “I was supposed to be an un-vixen.”

“Didn’t work. You’re the opposite, and I want you so fucking much.” I press against her. “You have me so wound up. I’m pretty sure you’re wound up too.”

She pushes back. “You know I am. You know I want you too. That was never the issue.”

I have to get closer to her. I need to have her. “Let’s give in. Just once.” I slide my fingers into her hair, she leans her head against my palm, and I continue making my case. “I can take you places. I can make you feel extraordinary, like I’ve always wanted to.”

She hums. “You’re making it hard to say no.”

“True. I’m very hard to resist.”

A smile spreads across her face. “You are, Malone. You’re terribly, impossibly hard to resist.” She nibbles on her bottom lip. “One night. Our secret. What happens in Tahiti stays in Tahiti.”

“Absolutely,” I say as my dick high-fives me.

“And where is this alternate universe?”

I curl my fingers around her hip bone. “My place isn’t far. There’s also a hotel down the block. Either way, I intend to strip you naked, get my lips all over you, and make you feel as fucking good as you looked when you were watching me sing.”

She shudders. “I looked good when I was watching you? How so?”

I run my thumb over her hip, rubbing in slow, sensual circles. “You’re so seductive. You looked so incredibly alluring. You looked exactly as you are—the most beautiful woman I’ve ever met.” My fingers stray to her belly, gliding down the fabric of her dress toward my final destination. “And you and I have unfinished business.”

She leans her head back, and the most delicious moan ever recorded escapes her lips. When she raises her face, she tap-dances her fingers down my chest then runs them over the silk of my tie. “Are you saying we’re going to finish the business tonight?”

“Yes, and then tomorrow . . . we can be friends again.” The thought pains me, but I know this is the only way to deal with our reality.

“Exactly,” she says, nodding her agreement. “We take a trip tonight. We get away to a remote island. And tomorrow we go back to the real world?” She’s seriously considering this. Hell, I’ve already considered it six ways to Sunday in the span of ten seconds, and I say it’s a brilliant plan.

“Let me take care of you tonight. Let me spend the night worshipping your body and driving you wild with pleasure.”

“You say these things . . .”

I grin. “And?”

“And you make it impossible to walk away.” She grabs my tie and tugs my face inches from hers. “But what do you think my voice says?”

I want her to say it. The permission must come from her, and I’m dying for it. “You tell me.”

She brings her mouth to my ear and whispers, hot and sexy, “It says take me to Tahiti. Fuck me hard. Fuck me good. Fuck me senseless.”

That’s the only voice I’m listening to tonight.
