REVIEW BLAST: KEEP IT CLASSY by Lani Lynn Vale

Ghosts are real.

Well, technically speaking, maybe not. But the ones that haunt a man’s soul? Those are very real. So real, in fact, that there are times when Castiel would rather silence them forever in the worst way possible than to go on living with them haunting his every step.

All it took was one single second in time for his attention to drift, and everything changed.

Life as he once knew it, is over.

Now he’s struggling to make sense of the pieces that are left, and he’s fairly sure at least half of them are missing.

He’s living for three things now.

His club—the Bear Bottom Guardians.

His work as a police officer for Bear Bottom Police Department.

And the occasional glimpse of a girl that makes his spirit feel free.

Despite the ghosts that haunt him, he’s not willing to present them with another target. Which is why he has to stay away from her. He can’t touch her. He can’t talk to her. He can’t get anywhere near her.

Not and live with himself afterward.

The only problem is, Turner doesn’t care what Castiel wants. She also has a solution for his ghosts.

You may call her Ms. Ghostbuster.

My Review

I don’t think I’ve ever read a Lani Lynn Vale story where I haven’t had a plethora of feelings filling up my head and my heart. And I think the reason for that is the fact that her characters’ flaws are realistically portrayed and Vale delves deep into their minds, mostly through her use of dual perspectives, when she crafts their stories. It’s not difficult to understand what the hero and heroine are feeling and thinking because readers are privy to EVERYTHING from both of them.

What’s not to love about Castiel – he definitely deserves his ‘hot cop’ moniker and even though his exterior defenses alienate him from people and prevent them from truly understanding who he is, it’s more than obvious that Castiel is worth the extra work it takes to know him and to have him in one’s life.

Ever since Turner was introduced as Jubilee’s best friend, I’ve loved her. She’s quirky and way stronger than she thinks she is; she’s full of life and tries to find happiness and laughter each and every day. And I get that she still sees herself as a work-in-progress even though she’s taken steps to recreate herself in a way that makes her feel healthier…that kind of body image issue is not something that easily goes away, especially when her childhood has left its own scars on her heart and her soul.

Even though Castiel and Turner wanted nothing to do with each other on their onset of their would be friendship and even relationship, there was always more like than hate when it came to these two, and while they kept up appearances quite nicely in the beginning, when it comes to their mutual hatred, but as soon as Turner needs him, Castiel steps up in big ways and has no plans of remaining invisible, at least when it comes to her.

The two things I always love about a Lani Lynn Vale story are the fact that her heroines are easily relatable and the fact that family, whether blood-related or not, is essential to the growth of these characters and they seem to always be at their backs when they need them.

Because Vale gave readers insight into how the events of her real life fused into her words and storyline for Keep It Classy, it’s easy to see just how much of her emotions are embedded into the plot and into the characters’ feelings. And I appreciate that fact so much because, in some ways, it makes Turner and Castiel’s story more personal…more impacting…more everything and then some.

BLOG TOUR REVIEW AND EXCERPT: THE LEGEND by Dylan Allen

The Legend - BT banner.jpg

THE LEGEND is a slow-kindling fire that, before you know it, has consumed you. Lies, twists, turns, passion, devotion, and a love that, though tried, never breaks. Dylan Allen masterfully weaves them all into this unputdownable, compelling tapestry of a tale.”

— Kennedy Ryan, Amazon bestselling author

The Legend, an all-new steamy, second-chance romance from Dylan Allen, is available now!

LEGEND_FINAL.jpg

The love of a lifetime deserves a million chances.

Remington Wilde had heartbreak written all over him.

He was the most beautiful boy I’d ever seen.

When I looked into his midnight eyes,

I saw a happy ending I’d never dared to dream of.

I was seventeen the first time he asked for my heart,

I didn’t hesitate to hand it over.

In exchange, he gave me the best summer of my life.

He was my first everything.

Falling in love felt written in the stars…

But our legend, it turns out, was all a lie.

And when our story ended, all I had was a broken heart.

Now, he wants a second chance.

But this time, I’ve got more to lose than just my heart.

When the lies that pulled us apart, threaten again, it will take more than sweet words from his sinful mouth to convince me.

He says the love of a lifetime deserves a million chances,

But am I strong enough to fall again?

My Review

Legends…tales…folklore…fables…myths…each one of these story types is entrenched in fiction, obscured by secrets, and covered in lies.

Remington Wilde’s family is legendary in their wealth, in their ambition, and in the gossip and fodder than surrounds their name and their social position. Kalilah Greer may be viewed extraordinary by those who love her, but as far as her social standing and

To understand how Remi and Kal got to the point they were in when their story opened up in the present, it’s necessary to start at the beginning with the first time they met and every subsequent encounter that fused their hearts together and made it impossible for either of them to completely let go of the ‘what ifs’ and ‘if onlys’ that kept them constant company even when Remi and Kal were no longer together or even on speaking terms.

‘Moments deferred by life’. There’s not a better explanation for how everything life seemed to be against these two from the start, whether it was their opposing social statuses, meddling family members, or just simply unexpected encounters that were complicated by extenuating circumstances, there never seemed to be a time where their focus could be on one another and no-one and nothing else.

I never doubted Remi or Kal’s feelings for one another, and even though, I’ll admit, I didn’t see how these two could find their way back to each other after everything that was left unsaid and pertinent information that they didn’t know, I knew that if given another chance, Remi wouldn’t squander it and he would prove to Kal and to himself that she is all he needs despite other people’s beliefs to the contrary. And I have to say that if I was in Kal’s shoes and Remi asked me for another or one million chances, I wouldn’t deny him because what’s beyond clear is how much that man loves her despite everything that stood in their way in the past and still seems to be hindering their present.

The man that Remi is and pretty much everything else about him had me swooning from the start and he never failed to put a smile on my face, whether it was his filthy mouth or his sugary sweetness; he owned his feelings for Kal and it almost seemed like he was biding his time until their paths would, once again, cross and he could say and do what he should have done all those years ago when there were too many secrets between them and not enough faith and trust to conquer the legends and lies.

The one aspect of legends that more than epitomizes Remi and Kal’s love story is the fact that it’s EPIC, not just in the amount of time they spent loving each other or the way their hearts still beat for one another despite going in opposite directions…it’s those ideas and then some. Their love knows no boundaries or distance…there’s not an obstacle that it can’t surpass as long as there’s a chance that that they’ll find their way back to one another, stronger and better than ever. And it’s that idea that allowed me to keep the faith…that made me put my hurting heart in Dylan Allen’s capable hands and give Remi and Kal the ending they deserved and the resolution that I craved.

Excerpt

I can see the heat in her eyes and right away I know.

“You watched me?” I ask.

Her dark eyes widen, but she doesn’t look away.

“Yes.” She swallows hard.

“Did you like it?” I ask her.

“Remi,” she admonishes sharply, but I don’t miss the way she shifts her stance. She liked it.

“I want to hear you say it.” I ask again.

She nods and sucks her fat lower lip into her mouth.

I want to suck it, too.

“You know you could have gotten in and watched up close. You could have helped if you wanted.”

I circle her wrists and hold her hands in front of my face.

“They’re a little small, they wouldn’t fit all the way ’round.”

She draws in a big gulp of air and takes a step closer to me.

“Really?” she whispers her eyes flit down to my pants.

“I would have covered your hands with mine. We could have done it together.”

I let go of her wrists and slide my hands up so that we’re palm to palm.

Skin to skin.

It’s not nearly enough.

I’m this close to crossing a line I shouldn’t. But, when it comes to Kal, I can’t seem to help myself.

“Remi…we shouldn’t.” Her voice is husky and her fingers flex a little against mine.

“Yeah, probably not,” I agree, but I see the reflection of my own disappointment flash in her eyes and it emboldens me.

I know I should stand down. Even if it feels like it, we aren’t a good idea.

But she’s so tempting. And when it comes to her, I can’t seem to get a grip on my control.

I link our fingers and bring her hand to my lips for a kiss. She inhales sharply and looks up at me through the inky fringe of her lashes.

Her gaze lingers longingly on my mouth and I smile.

“Oh, Kal. We have a dilemma.” I drawl.

“Really? Then why do you sound amused? A dilemma isn’t generally a good thing.” The corners of her mouth turn up in a small smile.

“It’s a very good thing…because even though you don’t want to be, and I absolutely shouldn’t be, we’re interested in each other.”

“Well, that’s the perfect recipe for an unhappy ending, if I ever heard one.”

BLOG TOUR REVIEW: LOVE AND CHAOS by S.M. Soto

The Chaos series is complete!

————-

Love and Chaos by S.M. Soto

Blurb

Hell is rising

People are dying…all in the name of love.

Tell me, can the Devil and his Angel survive the flames?

Deception and Blood were the counterparts, but now, can Sophia and Creed navigate their way through the never ending Chaos?

Add the book to Goodreads

My Review

Throughout the entire Chaos series, readers have witnessed Sophia rebuild who she is after the darkness almost swallowed her whole due to a monster’s manipulative and sadistic ways – one who’s obsession with her forced Sophia to endure an immense amount of loss and pain. But now, that man has been dealt with…or is in the process of feeling Garrett and Creed’s wrath and punishment for his betrayal, manipulation, and cruelty, which means that Sophia can finally feel safe or at least as safe as she can since she’s in love and having the baby of a mafia prince.

Creed becomes more devil than man in the final book in the Chaos trilogy, and, at first, it was difficult for me to wrap my head around his behavior. I get that he wanted Finlay to suffer for what he did to Sophia, but holy shit does he go dark, so much so, that he’s hiding what he’s doing and keeping secrets in the hopes of protecting her, but what it’s also doing is alienating her from what she needs most – Creed and the truth.

I feel like Love and Chaos can be divided into two parts – the first one is the aftermath of Finlay’s actions and Creed’s subsequent punishment for all of Finlay’s sins and then the second one that focuses on the underbelly of Creed’s new dealings and those who want to challenge his family’s status and reach. And for that very reason, Sophia’s suffering doesn’t seem to be over, and even though it’s a new threat and she’s a secondary target due to her relationship with Creed, it’s more issues to be dealt with and Sophia’s current state doesn’t allow for anymore stress or worry than she’s already had to endure.

One thing that stood out to me about Sophia was her fierce protective nature of those she loves, especially when all hell breaks loose. She fights like hell to keep everyone safe, even when it’s more than apparent that she needs some help in that area, but what I loved most about her in these situations is that she never stopped fighting…she never stopped pushing back…she never stopped sacrificing herself and those actions proved her resilience and her inner strength, something that was always there but just needed a bit of healing for them to come to the forefront again.

I wasn’t sure how S.M. Soto was going to bring Creed and Sophia’s story to its conclusion. There was so much chaos encircling them and so many enemies looking to wreak havoc on their happiness that I worried that casualties would be high and Creed would head towards a downward spiral that he couldn’t come back from, but I should have trusted in Creed and Sophia’s love and I should have remembered that Creed takes care of his own and won’t allow anything to happen to his famiglia.

I’m excited that Soto plans to stay in the Chaos world with not only the second generation but also with some of the members of Creed’s crew, and I’m sure she’ll continue to bring both darkness and light, chaos and calm, destruction and restoration into her stories and her characters’ lives.

RELEASE BLAST: PURE BLISS by Lexi Blake

Re-released in a second edition with new content.

The town of Bliss, Colorado, offered Hope McLean a second chance at life, a gift she cherishes every day. Her past was dominated by dark secrets and regret, most of which centered on a man named Christian Grady. All of that was behind her now, years of horror distilled down into the occasional nightmare or a random feeling of being watched. Surrounded by new friends, she tried hard to leave the past where it belonged—in the rearview mirror.

Raised together, James Glen and Noah Bennett were the best of friends. They dreamed of growing up in Bliss, finding love, and settling down to share their lives on the Circle G ranch. James would manage the day-to-day operations of the ranch while Noah served the town as the resident veterinarian. Everything was perfectly planned out, until a woman came between them and their future shattered. Noah left Bliss for New York City and James was left to struggle to keep the Circle G alive on his own.

Noah returns to Bliss on a mission to rebuild his life. When he sees Hope, he knows his return home was meant to be. Hope’s kindness shines like a beacon calling him to her. Unfortunately, he isn’t the only man interested in Hope. James is also interested in the beautiful girl with a mysterious past. He can’t be forced to choose between the woman of his dreams and his best friend again.

As romance begins to bloom, a dark specter from Hope’s past returns to claim her. To save Hope, and themselves, James and Noah will have to rebuild the relationship they lost and fight for their future with Hope together.

My Review

What I’ve learned throughout my times in Bliss, Colorado, and its inhabitants is that it’s a place where people can go to start over…to get a new lease on life…to leave the past behind and focus on a present and a future much different than the hell they’ve been through. And each person who enters this safe haven finds sanctuary there, but it also never fails that the darkness follows them as well, placing the townspeople in rather precarious positions but also illustrating just how bonded this small community is when they step up for those who have become some of their own.

I always feel like readers get a better understanding of the characters when they have a history together, and while James Glen and Noah Bennett’s past ended with harsh words and a destroyed friendship/brotherhood, the good memories they shared and all that they endured together always remains amidst the pain.

The lesson that a woman should not come between two friends/two brothers was one that James and Noah didn’t seem to learn the first time around, but now that Noah has returned to Bliss and they, once again, seem to be vying over the same woman, if these two don’t find a way to bridge the divide between them and stop treating Hope like something to possess instead of someone to cherish then these two men might lose the best thing to ever happen to them and to their shattered relationship.

It always seems like the added suspense involved in this series is something that forces the characters’ hands, in a way, to acknowledge their true feelings and to push through the bullshit in order to not only protect the ones they love but also to truly address their issues, making strides to fix their broken parts and fuse them back together knowing that while the memories are still there, the wounds have finally healed.

Noah, James, and Hope are three characters who have their own personal demons to address, but none of them will be able to work through them unless they reveal their secrets and their true feelings, and this is what they struggle with, along with the danger that surrounds Hope when her past pays a visit, throughout the course of the story, and while I would have liked a bit more time spent with these three when they had everything figured out because there was so much to process and heal from, it makes sense that the focus would be on going through the steps to restore Noah and James’ brotherhood and figure out a way to share Hope, knowing that her feelings for both of them are strong enough to sustain them all.

Assistant District Attorney Alec Pierce wants a future with the sexy, tough-talking biker who came to his rescue six months ago. But when evidence capable of destroying his future comes to light, Alec sets a plan in motion to keep the man he loves from a district attorney bent on vengeance.

Will Alec’s efforts pay off or will he destroy them both in the process?

As a Disciples of Havoc member, Keyes Dixon rides the line between society’s moral code and that of his brothers. He straddles two worlds… One owns him and the other seduces him with the promise of a future. But when a rush to judgment has him swerving to miss the roadblocks suddenly in his lane, he’ll have to choose between the club that demands his loyalty and the gorgeous assistant district attorney who deserves his commitment.

Can Keyes escape his circumstances to take a chance on a future he wants?

Six months into what started as a one-night stand, both men must navigate their developing feelings as they remain bound by differing oaths that threaten to drive them apart. Not only does their future hang in the balance of opposing forces, but an unexpected strike of the gavel could send them on a collision course neither is prepared for.

Will havoc continue to determine their lives or is their love strong enough to bring order?

Havoc normally doesn’t breed order; in fact, it usually looks to devastate, to destroy everything in its path regardless of the casualties that occur.  But it’s never been up against two men hellbent on ensuring the disarray somehow becomes more manageable, maybe even controlled if the obstacles can be maneuvered around in a way that will allow some sort of modicum to be reached.

Alec Pierce and Keyes Dixon live by a code – one that upholds justice and one that upholds the dictates of the brotherhood – neither saw one another coming or ever thought that a one-night stand would turn into something they both desperately want and in some ways need to give them what’s been missing from their lives regardless of how busy and full they are.

And here’s the thing about test two – if their feelings for each other were only based on sex, there would be no reason for these two to fight as strongly as they do to find a way to be together despite their differing worlds, so the fact that they do is a testament of what they’ve found in one another and it also proves that when it comes to matters of the heart, the law, a moral code, and a brotherly bond doesn’t compare to the all-consuming love two people share even as they stand on opposite ends of the law and perhaps even life.

Alec and Keyes’ loyalties may come into question by those around them due to the destruction that their relationship might cause their respective alliances and livelihoods, but when it comes to one another, there’s nothing they wouldn’t do to prove just how essential they are to each other and their protective natures come out in a multitude of ways, proving just how willing they are to give up parts of who they are, so that it’s easier to be by one another’s side as long as they can.

Kindle Alexander does a great job showing Alec and Keyes’ internal struggles when it comes to what they’re willing to give up, willing to concede to in order to be together. And boy does Alexander put their two heroes through their paces…making them question everyone and everything around them, and while Alec and Keyes know that it might be easier just to give one another up, that’s one line they’re unwilling to cross, and as long as they hold on to what they’ve built together, the havoc that surrounds them will have bend to the will of these two alpha males because they’ll turn their lives upside down just to be able to keep one another and bring some order back into their lives…but this time…on their terms.

RELEASE REVIEW: ARRANGE Me by Katy Regnery

Blurb

My name is Courtney Jane Salinger…
and I’m sick of games.

Sick of the Friday night bar-scene-cum-meat-market.
Sick of the boy-girl, man-woman, mars-venus, flirtation-without-expectation, game-playing nonsense.
Sick of awful dates and one-night stands, booty calls and guys who don’t call back, mixed messages or NO messages and—and—and…I’m sick of all of it.

I’m done.
I just can’t do it anymore.
It’s too hard, and worse: little by little, it’s making me hard.
It’s breaking my heart.

What DO I want?
That’s easy.

I want a house in suburbia with a white picket fence.
I want babies to buckle into a minivan.
But most of all, I want to be married.
I want a husband.

So I’ve made an important decision: I’m making my escape from the dating world and the single life.
I’ve filled out my application on ArrangeMe.com and I’m putting my fate into the hands of experts.

Is it a little scary?
Sure.
I mean, I have no idea who I’ll end up with. After all, I’m planning to marry a complete stranger.

But between you and me?
I can’t wait.
Being arranged can’t possibly be worse than being single.
Can it?

My Review

Today’s dating world is not what it used to be, and while we can thank dating websites and apps for a lot of those changes, due to their ease of use and a plethora of choices, single people have also changed the dynamics of dating, swiping left or right, looking for nothing more than a one-night stand, and not settling for one woman when there seems to be a never-ending supply.

What’s the complete opposite of the dating games that Courtney Jane Salinger is no longer willing to play…how about a website called ArrangeMe.com where you submit an application and let the experts do their arrange marriage magic.

Can you imagine how desperate Courtney is to take such an extreme step…I mean, it shouldn’t be that difficult to find a happily ever after, but it sure seems like it is  and what’s even more mind boggling is the fact that what Courtney wants is what everyone deserves in life.

But here’s the thing, in any kind of arrangement, there’s a bevy of things that can go wrong, which means that even in an arranged marriage, there are no guarantees, even after the decision is made and the journey begins, and with some interesting outside interference, it’s unclear if Courtney made the right or wrong decision, even when everything is said and done.

I haven’t read a Katy Regnery romance story in quite some time, so when I saw the sign-up for an advanced copy of Arrange Me, I instantly filled out the form. I love Regnery books because they’re unique, not only in their concepts and content but also in the paths she takes her characters on, and I’m excited that Courtney’s story will continue in Arrange Us.

Molly grew up in California but now lives in the oh-so-amazing state of Texas with her husband, daughter, and fur babies. When she’s not diving into the world of her characters, some of her hobbies include hiking, snowboarding, traveling, and long walks on the beach … which roughly translates to being a homebody with her hubby and dishing out movie quotes. She has a weakness for crude-humored movies and loves curling up in a fluffy comforter during a thunderstorm … or under one in a bathtub if there are tornados. That way she can pretend they aren’t really happening.

RELEASE BLITZ: MAKE ME YOURS by Tia Louise

He’s a billionaire single dad who needs help.

She’s a sassy single gal who needs work.

Live-in nanny? What could go wrong?

Remington Key: I left the Navy, scored a billion in tech, got married, and had a baby. I did everything by the book. Happily ever after, right?

Fast-forward four years, and I’m alone, raising my daughter, caring for my mother-in-law, and trying to keep my stuff together. How did this happen?

I was clearly drunk the night I offered a gorgeous girl in a bar $500 a day to be my live-in nanny. Or maybe it was my dick talking.

So what if I’ve been alone since forever? I’m focused on launching my new business, not bedding the sexy siren who sleeps down the hall.

At least that’s what I keep reminding myself…

Ruby Banks: Remington Key is distant, brooding, and ridiculously sexy. And when he scoops up his adorable four-year-old daughter Lillie and blows raspberries on her tummy while she squeals with delight, my ovaries literally explode.

Bumping into him at our local pub that night slightly drunk and overly frustrated was a total accident. He needed help, and it was the Christian thing to help a man in need. Right?

Only, Remington Key does not make me feel very Christ-like… No matter how committed I am to being a responsible employee.

(A small-town STAND-ALONE CONTEMPORARY Romantic Comedy. This is Ruby and Remi’s hilariously adorable love story.)

My Review

After watching Ruby Banks in action in Make You Mine, her best friend’s story, I couldn’t wait to see what Tia Louise had in store for this sassy and strong character in her own story, especially when I discovered that the hero would be a certain gorgeous single dad looking to get a little bit of himself back while also making sure his daughter is loved and cared for when he’s working.

The pull between Remi and Ruby is evident from their first interaction at the bar, and the fact that they’re attracted to each other and want to act on their lustful emotions complicates an already complex situation. Lines were going to be crossed as soon as Remi offered Ruby the job as his 4 year-old daughter’s nanny…how could they not be when the air around these two is as sexually charged as it is. But while Remi doesn’t seem to have too big of an issue when it comes to acting on his feelings for Ruby, she has a lot more to lose, which means that her desperate need for him as well as her desire to find a new path for herself, which can be jump started by the money she’s making as Lillie’s live-in nanny, contradict one another and make things a bit more problematic than she would like them to be.

Like Remi, I was captivated by how effortless it was for Ruby to care for Lillie, not just by making sure she got to school or ate the right things at meals, but Ruby got down on Lillie’s level, proving that Lillie’s ideas were important to Ruby and that Ruby was interested in allowing Lillie to express her individuality any way she wanted to…she allowed Lillie to be a little girl, kept her secrets, and made her own version Disney magic, and that meant everything to both Lillie and Remi.

My one point of contention with Remi was his inability to put Eleanor in her place when she needed to be. It frustrated me that Remi allowed her to speak the way she did to Ruby and to Lillie, and I didn’t understand why he let her dictate so many things in his and Lillie’s life, and while it probably has something to do with the fact that she stepped up in major ways when her daughter and Remi’s wife passed away, Remi’s alpha male tendencies in other areas of his life didn’t mesh well with the version of Remi that was brought out when Eleanor was in the room.

Despite my one issue with Remi, I truly enjoyed my time spent with him, Ruby, and Lillie. They made such an amazing little family, and despite uppity bitches’ criticisms and judgments, they were exactly where they were meant to be, and I loved seeing Remi fight for Ruby in all ways that mattered, especially when Ruby wanted to run from her feelings and the complicated mess that they put her in. Ruby definitely had a less than ideal childhood due to her father’s extraordinarily  high expectations, her mother’s submissive personality, and vindictive girls who always judged her, and she may have even struggled to find her place in life and love for a bit, but as soon as she moves into Remi’s house, she’s home in ways that she never thought possible, and despite the bumpy road it took to get to this point, she learned who she was, what she wants, and ultimately, what she deserves.
