About FIGHTING FOR WHAT’S HIS (Warrior Fight Club #2, 9/7/18)

This fight club has one rule: you must be a veteran…

Resisting her only makes him want her more…

Private investigator Billy Parrish is good at three things—fighting, investigating, and sex. MMA training with the other vets in the Warrior Fight Club keeps his war-borne demons at bay—mostly, and one night stands ensure no one gets too close. But then his best friend from the Army Rangers calls in a favor.

Shayna Curtis is new to town, fresh out of grad school, and full of hope for the future. With a new job starting in a month, she’s grateful when her brother arranges a place for her to stay while she apartment hunts. But she never expected her roommate to be so brooding. Or so sexy.

Billy can’t wait for Shay to leave—because the longer she’s there, the more he wants her in his bed. To stay. He can’t have her—that much he knows. But when fight club stops taking off the edge, Billy lets down his guard…and starts fighting for what’s his.

My Review

Billy Parrish has proven himself a warrior, from his time in the military to his current job as a private investigator; he’s fought the good fight every day of his life, but he now faces an even greater opponent – one who has the ability to capacitate him and send him spiraling OR heal him in ways he never thought possible. But in order for this to take place, Billy needs to get his demons at bay and whether his new roommate, Shayna Curtis, can help him in that process is unclear because while he is attracted to her and his body craves hers, his decision to remain in control and alone makes Shayna’s fight an uphill battle, but it’s one she’s willing to endure because it’s beyond clear that fighting their battles alone is no longer working, so making it a team effort seems like the best option…but that’s the thing about people’s past demons…sometimes, regardless of how much they could use the help, their old operating methods plague them, placing barriers and obstacles that must be endured for these two warriors to learn to fight for each other.

Billy Parrish has a rough exterior, which makes perfect sense due to his background and his time served, and it’s also understandable for him to keep his distance from people given his loss and what he’s endured. But it’s beyond clear that Shayna is going to be one heck of a problem for Billy, not only because they’re forced into this ‘roommate’ situation, but also because their attraction is instantaneous and fending off their desires and feelings for each other just makes things that much more complicated.

It’s interesting to see how Billy and Shayna interact with one another when she first moves in; the sexual tension between them slowly builds each day they’re around each other, and while they both have every intention to stay away from the other, forcing them to temper their desires, it’s impossible for them to do so and once that barrier is tore down, what comes next will either heal their wounds or force further torment and devastation.

Fighting For What’s His illustrates that support and comfort can be found in many places…that trying to control feelings that just might heal one’s soul is futile. Billy found a way to cope with his past by pushing himself and his body at the Warrior Fight Club, and while he never thought he would find solace and peace with a woman when a certain woman enters his life – one that finds a way into his heart, the risks may multiply but so does the chance at happiness and once Billy realizes that, he’s willing to fight to claim Shayna regardless of what or who tries to thwart his attempts.

I’m a huge fan of Laura Kaye’s storytelling and her characters are always dynamically diverse; every story she writes is one that resonates with her readers, even in small ways, and allow us to escape into the world of protective men and the women who love them regardless of the scars of their past. Her Warrior Fight Club series, just like the other series that I’ve read, is a collection of fast-paced, suspenseful and steamy reads, and I can’t wait for Sean Riddick’s book!

Excerpt

“Shay, wait.” The words came out of Billy’s mouth before he even thought to say them. As if keeping Shayna around had been pure instinct.

And maybe it had been, because despite staying away from her all week, just one night in her presence had him craving more of her. Her humor. Her sarcasm. Her easy acceptance.

Maybe it was because of how little sleep he’d had all week. Or because doing his job well had meant delivering to his client the terrible news of her husband’s infidelity. Or because his surveillance work had required a lot of hours of sitting in his car—and the constant press of his back against the seat had awakened the phantom pain of long-ago fried nerves that he sometimes felt something fierce. All of which had him feeling exhausted.

Billy sighed and crossed the room to the staircase. “Come with me. Tomorrow, I mean.”

From where she stood on the fourth step, Shayna frowned. “Dude, it’s okay.”

He shook his head. “I want you to come.”

Her frown deepened. “Why? It’s not a big deal. Really.”

Why did he want her to come? When just moments before he’d felt so ambivalent and even a little embarrassed about it?

Billy didn’t have to think long on the answer—because she’d reacted as if WFC was not only perfectly normal, but really cool. And it was. But it was also fucking therapy of a sort, even though the format was something way different than sitting on a couch and spilling your emotional guts.

He needed to make up for hurting her feelings—and he knew he’d done just that. The expressiveness of her face made her an open book. And telling the truth was the best way to make up for it. He knew that, too.

“I was fucking embarrassed about what you’d think. That’s why I hesitated when you asked. Not because I didn’t want you to come. Besides, you could meet some of my friends.” Unusual heat rushed into Billy’s face, and he dropped his chin to his chest.

Shay made her way down to him until he was staring at her bare feet and her bright red toenails. “Did you think I’d tease you or something?” she asked, her voice neutral.

He forced himself to lift his chin and meet her gaze. “You do like to bust my balls.”

“Not about this. Never about this.” Her expression was so fucking earnest, and her face was even more beautiful.

He nodded, feeling the truth of her words down deep. After all, she’d seen his scars and heard him talk about how hard it was to come home from deployment and been nothing but cool about that, too. “So. will you come?”

Her smile answered before her words did. “Yeah. Sounds fun. I’d like to come. But I promise I’ll stay out of your hair.”

“You don’t have to stay out of my hair, Shayna.”

“Oh, good, because this is driving me crazy,” she said, her fingers suddenly combing through his hair. “You made it stand up funny.”

Billy could’ve fucking purred. If he did things like purr, which he fucking didn’t. But her nails felt damn amazing against his scalp. He would’ve closed his eyes at the goodness of it if it weren’t for watching the satisfaction shaping her pretty face as she touched him.

“There,” she said, her smile turning a little shy. She cleared her throat. “So, uh, okay then. What time do we need to leave?”

And grab Book 1, FIGHTING FOR EVERYTHING, right now!

Guilty until proven innocent.

That’s the way the world works, right?

I’m tired of being convicted without evidence, all because my last name is Gable.

From New York Times bestselling author Meghan March comes a brand new saga of forbidden love and second chances.

A Riscoff and a Gable can never live happily ever after. Our family feud is the stuff of legends.

Ten years ago, Whitney Gable caught me off guard with her long legs and grab-you-by-the-balls blue eyes.

I didn’t know or care what her name was.

Like any Riscoff worth the family name, I went after what I wanted. We burned like a flash fire until she married another man.

She hates me, and she should.

I objected on her wedding day.

Now she’s home, with those same long legs and man-eater stare, but there’s no ring on her finger.

They say a Riscoff and a Gable can never live happily ever after . . . but I’m not done with Whitney Gable.

I’ll never be done with her.

REVIEW AND EXCERPT TOUR: IF WE FLY by Nina Lane

We fell in love. Then our world fell apart.

I wished so hard for Cole Danforth. And one day, he came true. He was my first crush, my first lover, my first and only love. He should also have been my last.

But in a split-second, we were ripped apart, our lives broken, my heart shattered. After ten years, I’ve returned to my hometown, the place of my greatest joy and darkest pain.

Cole is still here, but the beautiful boy I’d loved is gone. Now he’s a ruthless, unforgiving man determined to feed both my resentment and my lust.

Then our torturous past encroaches again, trapping us in a violent storm.

But this time, there is no escape.

My Review

“Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” John 8:32

But while this is sage advice, sometimes the cost of the truth ruins lives…destroys hearts…crushes souls.

10 years ago, Cole’s lies stole his happily ever after with Josie and it’s that same misguided judgment that continues to divide these two soulmates. Because even though they’ve reunited their bodies, their hearts and souls still remain separated…still yearning for the love they once shared but making that seemingly impossible because they’re not the same people nor does Josie understand why Cole left her all those years ago.

Neither Cole nor Josie have the ability to rise above their pasts and the events that unequivocally altered the dynamics of not only their love but also of who they are at their core, and until their souls are set free…until they can let go of their grief, their anger, and their regret, they’ll truly never be able to rise above, to open up their hearts and their minds in a way that will allow them to fly high and no longer be trapped by their memories or the demons and nightmares that constantly plague them.

In If We Fly, Nina Lane forces Cole and Josie to face that god awful night 10 years ago…to shed the lies and accept the truths…to understand their respective actions and evaluate, whether or not, they can overcome everything that has spiraled out of control, accept who each other is in the present, and forgive what was lost when a single sentence was allowed to build an insurmountable wall between them.

Lane’s What If Duet, is perfectly named. The first book, If We Fall, illustrates what occurred when Cole made a decision that categorically altered every facet of both of their lives and then the story begins to help these soul mates find a way to move forward, to reconnect, and to heal what was broken all those years ago.

And, in If We Fly, Lane allows Cole and Josie to make their own decisions when it comes to what their present and future lives will look like and who they will share them with, and while these two appear to be unable to free themselves, perpetually grounded in the events of the past, re-opening their hearts and allowing the goodness back in will more than allow Cole and Josie to open their arms and fly high together, no longer giving their past the power it’s had for far too long.

4.5 Poison Apples

Excerpt

While I’ll take Josie wherever I can get her, I’d rather be with her at the cottage than anywhere else. Reminds me of our cramped apartment where we were always bumping into each other and never had enough room.

As both a girl and an artist, Josie came with stuff. Hair bands. Fuzzy socks. Premium pastels. A thousand tubes of lip balm. I loved her stuff because I loved her. But I’d also been baffled by her inability to hang up a sweatshirt.

Her cottage isn’t any neater, which is just one reason I like it there. She doesn’t answer my knock. I unlock the door and let myself in.

She’s sprawled on the bed in the sunroom, her body moving with quick, shallow breaths indicating a restless sleep. One shapely legs rests over a pillow, and her T-shirt is pulled up far enough to reveal the curve of her ass encased in panties printed with purple butterflies.

Much as I love the sight of her, I dislike like her insomnia, the way she sleeps in fits and starts. Though I haven’t seen evidence of a nightmare, that doesn’t mean she’s not still having them. And going back to the accident site…

My chest tightens. I sit in a chair by the window and rub a hand over the back of my neck.

Two weeks. That’s it. Then she’s gone. After that…hell, you don’t have to think about after. You just need to make sure the truth stays locked down. That means keeping her away from Peterson and any reminders.

Or taking her away.

A roll of half-opened Lifesavers rests on the windowsill. Peeling it open, I find a red one and stick it in my mouth. Sugar and cherry spill over my tongue.

“You’re going to pay for that.” Her sleep-husky voice draws my attention.

She’s watching me, her arms around a pillow.

“I’ll share.” I push to my feet.

“You’d better.”

After crossing the room in three strides, I sink onto the bed beside her and lower my mouth to hers. Though I had every intention of talking to her first, her kiss fires me with heat. The tension in my chest loosens. I brush her silky hair back from her face and slide my hand over her cheek. Breathe in her strawberry smell. My unease slides away, overpowered by her soft sweetness.

She flicks her tongue into my mouth and over the cherry candy. After passing it to her, I lower her back onto the bed. My dick is already getting hard. I cup her breasts and rub my thumbs over her nipples, urging them to tighten. Josie sighs and shifts, hooking her legs around my thighs and wiggling her hips against me.

“You need to stop wearing jeans when you’re here.” She pushes me away and rises up to unbutton my jeans and shove them off. “Makes it hard for this spontaneous sex thing we’ve got going on.”

“I’m always hard for this spontaneous sex thing.” I shed my clothes before climbing on top of her again. Nuzzling my nose into her neck, I lick the hot hollow of her throat. I fucking love that tender little spot where her pulse beats so fast.

I inch my hand up her shirt, pulling it up far enough to expose her breasts, her pink nipples sticking straight up. The sight of her naked body jerks my cock into full hardness. Josie breathes out a moan and grasps my dick.

“God, Cole.” She shifts, urging me closer and parting her cherry-red lips. “Put it in my mouth.”

“Not this time.” With effort, I detach her hand from me and bend to kiss her breasts, pulling her nipple into my mouth. Her groan of satisfaction fires my lust hotter. I slide my hand between her thigh and into her pussy. Ah, fuck, my girl is already wet and primed, like she’s been waiting for me.

Moving lower on the bed, I push her thighs open. She rises to her elbows, her eyes widening. “Cole…”

When we first got together, it had taken her a long time to let me go down on her. No matter how aroused she was or how careful I was, she’d tense up and get self-conscious about being so exposed. But we’d both persisted, and I’d started with gentle licks of my tongue that soon had her panting and pumping her hips. And when she came…more than once, I’d been unable to hold back and ended up shooting my load all over the bedsheets.

That’s not happening this time.

We fell in love. Then our world fell apart.

I wished so hard for Cole Danforth. And one day, he came true. He was my first boyfriend, my first lover, my first and only love.

BLOG TOUR STOP AND GIVEAWAY: BLOCK SHOT by Kennedy Ryan

“Kennedy Ryan’s writing continues to amaze and inspire. She is a genius wordsmith and a prose poet. And in Banner Morales, she has created the perfect heroine for this day and age. Don’t miss this read. It’s everything.”

— Emma Scott, Bestselling Author

Block Shot, Kennedy Ryan’s enemies-to-lovers, second-chance standalone romance is LIVE and FREE in Kindle Unlimited!

JARED

If I had a dollar for every time Banner Morales made my heart skip a beat…

The heart everyone assumes is frozen over.

Her anger is…arousing.

Every glare from those fire-spitting eyes, every time she grits her teeth,

gets me…well, you know.

If I had a dollar for every time she’s put me in my place, I’d be an even richer man.

I’m a successful sports agent because I assume “no” means you’ll think about it.

I’m sure what you meant to say is “Coming right up.”

They say even rich men don’t always get what they want,

but those men don’t know how to play the game. The trick is to keep them guessing.

Take Banner. She assumes she’s winning, but this game?

She doesn’t even know how to play.

BANNER

If I had a dollar for every time Jared Foster broke my heart, I’d have exactly one dollar.

One night. One epic fail. One dollar…and I’m out.

I’ve moved on.

I’ve found success in a field ruled by men.

Anything they can do, I have done better.

They can keep the field while I call the shots, blocking them when I have to.

And Jared has the nerve to think he gets a second chance?

Boy, please. Go sit down. Have several seats.

I’ll just be over here ignoring the man carved from my fantasies with a lust-tipped chisel.

Oh, I didn’t say the struggle wasn’t real.

But I’ve got that one dollar, and Jared won’t have me.

My Review

I’m a HUGE fan of smart romances…of romances that understand the consciousness of the times and uses this medium to not only enlighten readers about certain life lessons but also to prove that the only obstacles that are insurmountable are the ones that people are too afraid to attempt.

Even though Block Shot is only the second book that I’ve read by Kennedy Ryan, I knew after finishing Long Shot, the first book in Ryan’s Hoops series, that her romance stories were intellectually rich, thought provoking, and so well written that it was beyond easy to get swept up in the storyline and in the characters themselves, longing to truly understand what makes them who they are and how their paths seem destined to cross despite the extenuating circumstances that surround them on all sides.

‘I’ve always known how to play the game, Ban. Always calculated what every move would yield and how I would come out the winner.’

Jared Foster couldn’t have described the way he approaches life any better than the quote above, and what’s even more striking about this statement is that it guides both his professional and personal life, allowing him to pave his future and to earn EVERYTHING that he’s always wanted despite the odds against him. But when it comes to his feelings for Banner Morales, there’s not a game plan in his repertoire for him to follow because with her, his logic almost ceases to exist and while he may want to continue his cutthroat sports agent demeanor, Banner lives by her own set of rules and values, and with her in Jared’s life, he can’t help but be changed by Banner’s passion, by her heart, and by the way she loves with all of her heart and soul.

Banner Morales is my spirit animal; she’s who I want to be when I grow up…if that was a possibility;) Her strength…her backbone…her intelligence…she is inherently good and it’s that goodness that guides her…that shapes who she is. Kennedy Ryan crafted Banner’s personality in a way that speaks to readers…speaks to our own insecurities…our own distorted self-perceptions. I loved witnessing Banner’s growth in a realistic and authentic way, and even though she’s a work-in-progress throughout much of the story, what we learn about her and what she figures out about herself are ideas that allow Banner to finally she herself…her heart’s desire over anything else.

Due to her authentic voice, her ability to shed light on societal norms and issues, and the way she constructs her stories and thoroughly develops her main/secondary characters, Kennedy Ryan has quickly become one of my favorite authors. The fact that Ryan allows her hero and heroine to make mistakes…to make bad decisions even though they’re good people at their core enables readers to identify with these amazingly multifaceted characters and as they work towards their second chance, we can see ourselves in these characters’ happiness and struggles and feel comforted by the fact that they never gave up, which means that even seemingly hopeless situations can be overcome.

Excerpt

I stretch my arm toward the wall and turn out the lights.

With the light snuffed out, my other senses rise, hunting for her in the dark. The smell of her hair and her quick, shallow breaths. My sight adjusts until the heavy black curtain completely obscuring her fades to gray. Light from the outer room spills under the door, revealing just the shape, the outline of her, but still camouflaging details. I cup her cheek, taking a moment to appreciate the softness of her skin, the silky hair brushing my knuckles. I’m not an idiot. She wants the lights out because she’s self-conscious, but from my perspective, she has nothing to be ashamed of.

“I think you’re beautiful, Ban.”

“You do?” she asks, her voice hushed.

My words surprise me as much as they seem to surprise her, because I don’t say shit like that to girls. The prettiest ones usually seem to already know, which makes any admiration I’d express redundant. But Banner . . . she’s so beautiful, and I’m not sure she knows.

“I do.” I push the hair away from her face.

“Uh . . . thank you.” Her laugh isn’t much more than a breath. “The lights are out, so I’m not sure that compliment counts.”

“I know your face by heart. You have seven freckles here.” I swipe a finger over the straight bridge of her nose and drift down to caress her full lips and the tiny dent in her cheek her smile displays. “And a dimple right here.”

I explore the smooth skin of her nape, under a heavy fall of hair.

“Now I want to know your body, too,” I say softly. “Take off your clothes for me, Banner.”

After a sharply indrawn breath, she raises her arms. The rustle of her clothes—the sweatshirt, jeans, socks, shoes—being discarded whisper in the dark. I approximate her by touch, reaching for her arms and closing my fingers around the softness, the velvety skin. I lower my head and run my nose along her neck, discovering.

“You always smell so good.” I’ve wanted to tell her that since the first night we studied here.

“Pretty Pastel,” she replies, her laugh low, nervous.

“What?” I pause.

“The smell. It’s my dryer sheets. The scent is Pretty Pastel.”

“I like it.” I resume my exploration, running a palm over her shoulder, her collarbone until I find the soft, full weight of her breasts, testing them in my hands, cupping them, holding them, brushing the nipples with my thumbs until they pebble and her breaths come harshly.

“You like that?” I ask.

I see her head nod in the semi-darkness. “Yeah. It feels good.”

Her touch startles me in the best way, her hand finding my face, traveling over my mouth, eyes, and hair. I sense her approach, feel tiny pants of breath on my lips, and anticipation has me panting, too, shortens my breath and sharpens my senses. Her mouth seeks mine, eager and sweet when she kisses me. Her pleasure, her excitement matches, answers, fans mine.

I guide her back down to the couch, and with a hand at her shoulder, urge her to stretch out. I’d shave points off my GPA for a glimpse of her, but she doesn’t want that. I get it, so I settle for a taste.

BLOG TOUR REVIEW AND EXCERPT: DIRTY HEADLINES by L.J. Shen

“Dirty Headlines is a fantastic enemies to lovers office romance with a perfect filthy asshole hero that I wish I’d written myself.” – Laurelin Paige, New York Times bestselling author

Dirty Headlines, an all-new sexy, enemies-to-lovers romance from bestselling author L.J. Shen is LIVE!

LJSDirtyHeadlinesBookCover6x9_BW_324

Célian Laurent.

Manhattan royalty.

Notorious playboy.

Heir to a media empire.

…And my new boss.

I could have impressed him, if not for last month’s unforgettable one-night stand.

I left it with more than orgasms and a pleasant memory—namely, his wallet.

Now he’s staring me down like I’m the dirt under his Italian loafers, and I’m supposed to take it.

But the thing about being Judith “Jude” Humphry is I have nothing to lose.

Brooklyn girl.

Infamously quirky.

Heir to a stack of medical bills and a tattered couch.

When he looks at me from across the room, I see the glint in his eyes, and that makes us rivals.

He knows it.

So do I.

Every day in the newsroom is a battle.

Every night in his bed, war.

But it’s my heart at stake, and I fear I’ll be raising the white flag.

My Review

No one does insanely hot asshole heroes like L.J. Shen…the way she creates and develops these sinfully sexy men allows them to become the center of every one of her reader’s world because despite the fact that we can’t decide if we want to nut punch them, slap them, or do a combination of both while also imagining what these perfect specimens of bravado and intellect look like when they’re stripped bare in a number of deliciously decadent ways.

At the onset of Dirty Headlines, it’s clear that Célian Laurent and Judith “Jude” Humphry live in completely different worlds and even though their paths cross for one night of fantastic sex, the second time they connect winds up turning both of their lives on tilt because the first impression that Jude made on Célian turned to shit fairly quickly when she was forced to cross a line and now that she finds herself working for him, Célian’s definitely going to take his shots at her because no one takes from him without paying for it dearly.

The way that Shen crafts Célian’s personality forces Jude and readers to see through his cold and dickish demeanor to the man underneath is definitely a slow process. But as opposed to Shen’s other alpha assholes, it’s much easier to recognize his good qualities and understand why he’s approached his life the way that he has. There are so many layers to who Célian is and fortunately, Jude is the person who unravels his icy personality, forcing him to be a much different version with her, at least when it comes to their time together.

Jude is another one of LJ Shen’s strong heroines and like her predecessors, she has to be due to her circumstances and the guy who she unfortunately, at least at first, can’t get enough of regardless of the things he says and does to her. The way Jude juggles everything while still managing to go after her dreams is commendable; she is definitely a force to be reckoned with and thankfully she found a man who could weather that storm with her despite the bumpy journey they take to get through it all.

What amazes me the most about Shen’s storytelling is how seamlessly she weaves the angsty dramatics throughout the plot line while also clearly illustrating the reality of her characters’ true feelings for one another. I do feel like Célian and Jude’s story is a little lighter than some of Shen’s other books, but it still forces readers’ emotions to run the gamut and it keeps them on their toes as they watch the push and pull between the hero and the heroine play out.

Dirty Headlines is an office romance ON FIRE…I truly don’t know how my fingers didn’t get singed from all of the dirty talking and filthy fucking, and even when
Célian and Jude exchange rude and snarky remarks, the sexual tension oozes off of them, never letting either of them forget who owns them body and soul, even if they fight like heck to deny it and even, at times, defy it.

L.J. Shen is definitely one of my favorite authors for angsty romances, and she continues to showcase why her fans/readers just can’t get enough of her arrogant assholes and the women who ultimately bring these men to their knees.

4.5 Poison Apples

Excerpt

He had an American accent. Not French. American. Smooth. Familiar. Ordinary. He fired out sentences at the speed of light. I heard him, but I couldn’t listen. Shock gripped my body as the pieces of the puzzle fell into place. My dirty one-night stand was my boss. My lying, American boss. And now I had to deal with that—hopefully for a very long time, because I desperately needed this job.

Someone snapped their fingers, and my gaze shot from Célian’s face to Grayson.

His forehead had crumpled into a frown. “You look like you’re trying hard not to cry or having a really intense orgasm. I’m hoping for you that it’s the latter and some kind of a weird-slash-awesome condition. You okay?”

I nodded, scraping up a smile. “Sorry. Zero orgasms happening under this dress. I just zoned out for a second.”Lies. I was about to orgasm just remembering how good Célianhad felt parting my thighs with his big, callused hands and dipping his tongue into my slit.

Then words stopped streaming down on everyone’s heads like a scalding shower, and I realized that indeed there was something worse than hearing Célianspeak in his perfect American English. And that was not hearing him speak at all. Because now the icicles were pointed at me like a cocked gun.

I glanced up to meet his gaze. He stared at me for exactly one second before his focus snapped to Grayson. “Am I understood, Gregory?” he asked.

Gregory?

“Crystal clear, sir,” Grayson bowed, his voice trembling at the edges.

Célian jerked his chin toward me. “Your cover girl material is going downhill.”

God. Damn. Bastard.

He recognized me, and I knew it. His eyes had kindled, melting the ice and growing darker the minute our gazes mingled. He remembered, and maybe it killed him that I was here in the same way it buried me.

I want my iPod back, my gaze told him. I had over three thousand songs on that thing, and they were all too good to be wasted on that jerk.

“Jude Humphry. Junior reporter. It’s her first day,” Grayson highlighted, almost pleadingly. He shifted in my direction, as if he might need to physically protect me from the sharp-tongued, suited monster.

I suppressed a smile when I realized I’d told Célianmy last name was Spears. Well, he certainly wasn’t a Timberlake. He was a Laurent. An American monarch through and through. A billionaire, a powerful force, and judging by our one and only encounter—a raging playboy.

This man was inside you, I internally shrieked. And not just once. His cock was buried so deep in you, you screamed. You can still taste the salty, earthy flavor of his cum.You know he has a freckle on his lower back. You know what sound he makes when he empties inside a woman.

I internally thanked my mind for ruining my panties in public, and nodded. “Pleasure to meet you, sir.” I offered him my hand, my face flushing with embarrassment at my choice of words.

Everyone was looking at us, and there were at least fifty people in the room. Célian—if that was even his name—ignored my outreached hand. Instead, he turned his face to the man beside him. “Mathias, any other words of wisdom?”

Mathias? Wasn’t that his father? Just how cold was the man with the icy blue eyes?

“I think you touched everything,” said the big boss—and he did have a heavy French accent, so at least the lie had a seed. Mathias stared at me placidly, like he could read the secret his son and I shared on my face.

Célian spun toward me, uncuffing his cufflinks and rolling his sleeves up his veiny forearms. “Accounting can go back to their unfortunate line of work. Couture is excused from this meeting—though not forgiven for their horrid blog. Miss Humphry?” He snapped his fingers impatiently.

He was already waltzing down the narrow hallway, knowing I’d chase him like a puppy, and no doubt taking pleasure in that fact.

“I have a bone to pick with you.”

Bone, boner—same difference, right?

I shot Grayson a please-save-my-butt look. His eyes said, I would but I still have a life to live.

I followed Célian down the hall, my Chucks slapping the floor in a hurry. He sliced through the throng of accountants, then stopped at a corner office, opened the door, barked “Out!” to the man inside, and tilted his head for me to go in. I did. He closed the door, and it was just the two of us.

Two feet of empty space between us.
