Cover Designer: Clarise Tan from CT Creations

Release Date: February 21st

“If Livingston was the King of the South, I was the Queen of Lies. From my deceit and his charm, we could build a kingdom that could last for centuries.”

The year is 1919, and the Great War has ended. As everyone picks up the pieces of their lives, I have only copious amounts of alcohol and women keeping me together.

Most of the men I went to war with didn’t make it home, including my best friend, Miles. I thought I knew everything about him until I discovered he made me the executor to his little sister Rainey’s dowry.

Rainey Pleasonton is anything but pleasant. Most men in Charleston found her wild and carefree ways to be terrifying, which explained why she was twenty-eight and still unmarried.

I have sixty days to help her find a husband before she loses her inheritance, her family’s legacy, and I lose the last of my sanity.

The only problem is, I’ve watched her go from a little girl who chased us around with a bow and arrow to the only woman in the South immune to my charm. And the men who were once scared of Rainey? They now find my le savauge beguiling, and I do not care for it one bit…

It protects us more than them.

I broke it once, the night Grayson Crowne mistook me for his true love and stole my first kiss. I’ve regretted it every day since.

He hates me.
He torments me.

He won’t let me go, because that night he whispered a secret against my lips not meant for me. Grayson Crowne, heir to the Crowne empire and notorious playboy prince is… a virgin.

I signed a contract in my heart’s blood as much as ink: help him get back his love, repair what I broke. Give him my body, my soul, my heart, let him use all of me, so when the time comes to marry her, he won’t need me.

I shouldn’t need him.

About the Author

I started writing the moment I could read. My first characters were Wibbley and Squig and I used MS Word and clipart to bring them to life when I was a kid in elementary school. I started seriously thinking about being a writer in High School and I remember the day exactly, because it was such an epiphany. I was always so uncertain. You know how everyone was always asking what you wanted to be when you were older? Well I NEVER could decide.

I wanted to be a marine biologist.

An actor.

A FIRE FIGHTER (thank you Joaquin Phoenix in Ladder 49 for that phase).

One day it hit me—A WRITER. I could do it ALL. Then you couldn’t stop me from writing. I penned my first novel at fifteen (but don’t ask me to show it to you, because it’s like I was in competition to beat the thesaurus). When I was diagnosed with a chronic illness, writing became even more important, because it became my therapy. When I wrote my characters, suddenly I wasn’t so alone.

These days you can find me daydreaming about where to travel with my husband, singing in my car, or lost in the newest K drama. And planning my next novel, of course

But he’s way too young. Plus, office romance is never a good idea. Besides, my relationship track record is pitiful and the last thing I need is to get my heart broken again. So Simon Walker can take his charm, his Star Wars sheets, and his genius IQ and sweet talk some sweet young thing.

Simon

Elaine Madigan is easily the most beautiful woman I’ve ever met. Hilarious. Sexy. Smart. And unfortunately, she’s also convinced herself that I’m way too young for, so she’s friend-zoned me.

Simon

We’ve been at this scavenger hunt for a good half hour, and we’re tied at 5. We’ve got a list of outlandish costumes and the goal is to spot as many, in real time, as we can. People watching is fun, but let’s face it: I’ve mostly been watching Elaine–the way she smiles softly, the way she toys with the ends of her hair or the bracelets on her wrist. I thought I was crushing before, but spending time with her one-on-one, (and no, the occasional carpool does not count) has me completely enchanted.

She scans the bar again, but the look on her face tells me she’s come up empty. I take a quick glance around and smile.

“What?”

“Sexy nun for the win.”

“No freaking way.”

“Yes freaking way. Sexy nun right at your back. Wait.okay, look now.” I watch her turn to spot a co-ed in little more than a crop-top and a habit. Seriously, her skirt’s the size of a business envelope, which could be an issue in the eyes of the Lord. “Holy crap, that girl will catch pneumonia.”

“Maybe the sexy doctors at the bar should lend a hand?”

She laughs, and my heart expands. “Well, sure. It’s the medically responsible thing to do.”

I shake my head at the visual. “Sounds like a bad porno.”

“Is there such a thing as a good porno?” The sincerity in her voice makes me choke on my beer.

“Oh, God! I’m sorry! Are you okay? Here, put your arms up. Maybe you need the sexy doctors?”

I cough loudly and draw a few stares. I smile in reassurance. “I’m good,” I promise, as I clear my throat a final time. “I don’t need the sexy doctors. Thoroughly enjoying my evening with a sexy copy-editor, though.”

Elaine blushes at my compliment as I flag down the scarecrow. Hell, even I’m impressed with the level of smooth I’ve been able to maintain. Being with Elaine is so easy that all–well, okay, a solid 50%–of my awkwardness seems to have dissipated.

The scarecrow returns and nods when I ask for a refill. She turns to Elaine, “Another for you, too?”

“Yes, thanks, but I’ll switch to a Shirley Temple Black.” Scarecrow nods again and disappears into the crowd.

“Did you seriously just order a Shirley Temple?  That’s awesome. I don’t think I’ve had one of those since I was ten.”

She opens her mouth, and I’d bet my Wookie collection she’s about to knock on my age.
Emboldened by the fact that I’m making her laugh and this date is going well, despite my inability to wear matching shoes, I reach across the table and press my finger to her lips. “Don’t say it.”

She widens her eyes with innocence, but I’m not fooled. Gifted program, remember? “Don’t. Whatever crack you were going to say about my age or yours, don’t.” Scarecrow returns with our drinks, and I accept mine, even if it means pulling my hand away from Elaine’s lips.

“I wasn’t going to say anything.” She can’t keep a straight face as she lifts her drink.

“Bullshit. You were two seconds away from saying something like, ‘When you were ten? What was that? Three years ago?’” I’m sure I impress her with my exaggerated falsetto.

“Yes, well.” She looks appropriately and adorably sheepish. “I was merely going to clarify that a Shirley Temple Black is an improvement on the old standard because it contains a shot of vodka. And the Black comes in because that was her married name.”

“Who knew?  And it’s good, this grown up version?”

“It’s delicious.” She sips her drink through her straw, and my cock, which has been half hard since this date began, presses painfully against my fly. Christ. If she starts talking about porn again, I’ll go out of my damn mind.

She reaches across the table this time and puts her hand in mine, lacing our fingers together. Her thumb rubs over my pulse point; it’s barely a touch, but it’s enough to drive me crazy.
Her hand moves down to my forearm, and her fingers caress the skin there. It feels good, sure, but when I look up at her and see the flush on her cheeks and I know she’s getting turned on by my forearms, I nearly lose it.

She pulls away quickly, and I’m about to protest or cry like a baby, but she’s toying with the little plastic sword, and I’m a little mesmerized as she peels a cherry off the length of the sword, rolls it on the tips of her fingers, and then points it in my direction. “Want my cherry?”

Sweet. Jesus.

BLOG TOUR REVIEW AND EXCERPT: Dear Ava by Ilsa Madden-Mills

Dear Ava - BT banner

“Dear Ava is heartwarming and angsty and don’t get me started on Knox. Read this book! You will love Ava’s fight and Knox’s alpha.”

Tijan, New York Times bestselling author

Wall Street Journal bestselling author Ilsa Madden-Mills delivers a gripping enemies-to-lovers, secret admirer, high school romance with Dear Ava, available now!

IMMDearAvaBookCover55x85_MEDIUM

The rich and popular Sharks rule at prestigious, ivy-covered Camden Prep. Once upon a time, I wanted to be part of their world–until they destroyed me.

The last thing I expected was an anonymous love letter from one of them.

Please. I hate every one of those rich jerks for what they did to me. The question is, which Shark is my secret admirer?

Knox, the scarred quarterback.

Dane, his twin brother.

Or Chance, the ex who dumped me. . .

Dear Ava,

Your eyes are the color of the Caribbean Sea.

Wait. That’s stupid.

What I really mean is, you look at me and I feel something REAL.

It’s been ten months since you were here, but I can’t forget you.

I’ve missed seeing you walk down the hall.

I’ve missed you cheering at my football games.

I’ve missed the smell of your hair.

And then everything fell apart the night of the kegger.

Don’t hate me because I’m a Shark.

I just want to make you mine.

Still.

My Review

When I read the short excerpt of Dear Ava in the Team Player 2 Anthology, I felt like I was brought back to my very first Ilsa Madden-Mills’ read – Very Bad Things – and I was more than a little excited. Nora and Leo’s story CONSUMED me in that New Adult Romance way, and I couldn’t get enough of the angst, the dramatics, the larger-than-life personas that Madden-Mills’ created at Briarcrest Academy, so to feel some of the same emotions that I felt as I lost myself in that book in her newest release, I couldn’t wait to get my hands on the whole story.

There’s an intense and emotionally driven tone and feel to this book as soon as chapter 1 begins and readers are provided with details of the night that unequivocally changed everything that Ava was and what she believed about herself and about her peers.

Fast forward ten months, and Ava begins her final year at Camden Prep – a prestigious private school where she’s not the typical rich kid on campus; in fact, she’s about as polar opposite to the rich, popular, and untouchable students who run the school and see her as nothing more than a charity case and an unworthy, lost cause. And, as much as Ava version 2.0 is focused on holding her head up eye and refusing to be intimidated by the Sharks and their mean girls, it’s a daunting task given the fact that almost the entire student body thinks she’s trash and undeserving of even walking down the same halls as them.

I’m glad that Ilsa Madden-Mills didn’t make readers wait too long to find out who Ava’s secret admirer was and just how long he’s wanted to claim her as his. There are so many layers to Knox Grayson that the author slowly unravels as Knox stops fighting his attraction to Ava and starts fighting to make her is. But any kind of relationship with Ava is going to have to be painstakingly fought far, not only because of what happened to her all those months ago, or even the fact that Knox hasn’t treated her the best when they did/do interact…what he has to worry about the most is Ava’s inability to trust a Shark and her perception of him and all of his friends/football teammates who not only runt he school but also seem to run/ruin other people’s lives if they so choose.

Dear Ava is an emotionally rich and thought provoking story – one that allows its main characters to bear their souls and realize that the greatest moments in life are those fought for at all costs. The way that Ilsa Madden-Mills transitions these two enemies from worthy adversaries to each other’s safe place doesn’t happen instantaneously, which allows the progression of their feelings and any kind of relationship other than the snarky banter that they seem to dish out to one another to be built on a solid foundation and to expand in a lasting way, despite a bevy of obstacles, drama, and poor choices.

What’s provided with absolute clarity at the end of Ava and Knox’s story is that persevering through loss, through heartache, through unimaginable experiences makes a person stronger and allows them to see just how worthy they are of life, of laugher, and of love.

Excerpt

“What do you want?” Knox says with as sneer as I ease in the football locker room. Cold eyes flick over my cheer skirt then move up and land on the hollow of my throat. It’s not cool enough at night for our sweater uniform so tonight my top is the red and white V-cut vest with CP embroidered on my chest.

“Where’s Chance?”

He whips off his sweat-covered jersey along with the pads underneath. “I don’t keep tabs on my best friend for you. Get out—before I scare you.”

He’s scaring me already.

But I can’t stop looking at him.

His shoulders are broad and wide, his chest lightly dusted with sparse golden hair, tan from the sun, rippling with powerful muscles, leading down to a tapered and trim waist. He has a visible six-pack, and my gaze lingers briefly on a small tattoo on his hip, but I can’t tell what it is. He isn’t brawny or beefy-looking like one might expect from a guy blessed with his athletic prowess, but sculpted and molded and—

Dropping my gaze, I stare at the floor. I shouldn’t be ogling him. Chance is my maybe-boyfriend.

I hear male laughter from one of the rooms that branch off from the locker room, maybe the showers, and I deflate, guessing that’s where Chance is.

Glancing up, I intend to ask him to tell Chance I came by to congratulate him on his two touchdowns, but my voice is frozen. Knox has unlaced his grass-stained pants and is shucking them off. His legs are heavily muscled and taut, unlike the leaner build of Chance. His underwear are white and tight, cupping his hard ass, the outline of his crotch—

“Like what you see, charity case? You can look, but you can’t touch.”

Anger soars, replacing my embarrassment. I know I’m just the scholarship girl at Camden, but why does he have to constantly remind me?

“Don’t worry about me touching anything. I don’t like ugly.” The words tumble out before I can stop them. I meant his superior attitude, not his face, but I see the moment when he freezes and takes it the wrong way.

He touches his face, tracing his scar while his jaw pops. “Get the hell out. Only players allowed in here.”

I pivot and go for the door, forcing myself not to run. “Asshole,” I mutter.

His laughter follows me.

BLOG TOUR REVIEW AND EXCERPT: Then You Happened by K. Bromberg

“Bromberg is the master of making hearts race and pulses pound.” -Jay Crownover, New York Times bestselling author

Then You Happened, an all-new small town stand-alone romance from New York Times bestselling author K. Bromberg, is available now!

THEN-YOU-HAPPENED-KRISTY-BROMBERG

Jack Sutton was the man I didn’t want to need.

His know-it-all attitude. His annoying suggestions. His outlook on life.

He was determined to help me while I had resolved to figure it out on my own.

But he taught me things I’d forgotten.

How to trust. How to believe in myself. Who I was.

The problem?

I went and fell in love with him.

Tatum Knox was the disaster I should have walked away from.

Her ruined reputation. Her failing business. Her chaotic life.

She hated me at first sight and yet intrigued me all at the same time.

I was only supposed to be there six months.

I was supposed to use that time to make amends for things I’d done wrong.

Instead I fell in love with her.

They say it’s better to have loved and lost, then not to have loved at all. Does that hold true when the love is based on a lie to begin with?

My Review

The Prologue to Then You Happened, K. Bromberg’s newest release, is incredibly powerful, illustrating what a person is willing to do to be able to choose who and what she wants in life, but Tatum Valor’s choice costs her way more than she ever thought possible and with one decision, she redefined her life in ways that she might not come back from, because six years later, she only has overwhelming heartache and loneliness as well as a multitude of failures that might truly leave her with nothing and no one.

But then you happened…

In both good ways and bad, this becomes Tate and Jack’s mantra as they contend with a litany of issues, both personal and professional, as well as deal with their internal torments that only seem to intensify the more time these two spend together, and once secret agendas and truths are finally revealed, it’s unclear if they will see their connection as the best or worse thing to happen to them.

I have to be honest…Jack and Tate frustrated the heck out of me, and my feelings for both of them, but especially Tate, fluctuated based on the amount of over-the-top actions and reactions she had compared to the scenes where she seemed willing to listen…willing to work together with Jack, not against him.

The fact that both Jack and Tate are more than a little headstrong may play into their banter and the sexual tension that builds between them, but it felt like they acted without thinking way too much and then when they finally figured out a way to communicate, their reactions didn’t seem to fit the situations nor did they seem to be argue about important issues or concerns. I get that when emotions are high, the worst can be brought out, but after everything that both of them had been through, it would have liked to see them work to not make the same mistakes.

K. Bromberg creates quite the small town feel in Lone Star, Texas, especially when it comes to the busybodies and gossipers. These townspeople may feel like they’re doing nothing wrong, but when they don’t know whether they’re spreading facts or spreading lies, they definitely have a knack for causing way more trouble than happiness.

Even though I had my ups and downs with Tate and Jack’s story, I really liked how Bromberg resolved her characters’ issues and gave them exactly what they wanted and needed after struggling for so long.

Excerpt

“Just face it, Knox. You’re head over heels in love with me.” Jack finally smiles, dimple winking and those eyes lighting up as he takes a step toward me, holding the scoop to his chest. “You can’t be near me because you want me, and you can’t talk to me because you get all flustered and tongue-tied.”

“There is nothing about you I find attractive,” I lie.

He places the scoop in my hand but doesn’t let it go when I try to take it. “It’d be much easier and a whole lot less distracting if I could say the same of you.” He lets go of the scoop and dips the tip of his hat in an aw-shucks kind of way. “But I’m not one to lie.”

Our eyes hold across the short distance as his comment floats through the air and fades like the dust specks dancing in the sunlight.

“That won’t work, you know?” I say.

“What won’t?”

“You trying to charm me every time you want something. I know your kind, Jack Sutton, and I’m not impressed by them.”

“Is that so?” He shifts on his feet and adjusts his hat before re-crossing his arms over his chest. “And what kind is that?”

“A man who uses his good looks and smooth words to get his way with people. A man who turns on the charm to disguise it.”

His eyes darken and then narrow. “Just like you’re the woman who keeps living her privileged life . . . fiddling while Rome burns down around her?” he counters, making me want to scream that he knows nothing about me or how I live or what I’ve been through for the last year. A small part of me is shouting about how that was his point, but I tell the voice to shut up. “And if by good looks and smooth words, you’re implying I’m like Fletcher, I suggest you not infer that again.” That muscle in his jaw feathers in contempt.

“I’m not the woman you think I am.”

He twists his lips and stares at me in a way that feels like he is seeing right through me. It’s unnerving and unsettling, and I force myself not to look away because his silence is telling me that maybe he thinks I am.

I’m not sure why that bugs me. Why I want him to see me as someone different.

“I’m not even certain you know who that woman is either.”

Dr. Easton is part man, part myth.

He’s a formidable surgeon. Highly respected in his field.

He also happens to be an ex-collegiate quarterback with a classically handsome face.

Are you catching on yet?

He’s horrible.

Beautiful.

A walking Ralph Lauren ad.

He’s also so off limits he should come with a warning label: This way lies heartache.

Not only is he an attending at the hospital where I’m training, he’s also my brother’s best friend. If you’ve lost count, that’s two reasons why I plan on putting this ridiculous crush behind me. Besides, it’s definitely not mutual.

Dr. Easton has never once paid me special attention. No tempting smirks. Not even one subtle innuendo. To him, I’m just another resident—all but invisible.

Connor

For the last five years, I’ve mentored Natalie in the OR, stayed in line, and kept my hands to myself, but it’s been agonizing.

Natalie is trouble in scrubs. A walking temptation I’ve been forced to ignore.

For so long, I’ve wanted her in silence. By the time fate finally gets around to throwing me a bone, my patience has run out.

Natalie’s brother is leaving town, and he wants me to watch over her while he’s gone.

He has no idea how I feel about her.

Neither does she.

But she will.

Haven’t you heard good things come to those who wait, Natalie?

Well…I’ve done my waiting.

My Review

It’s always entertaining for me to read and witness a hero and heroine have no clue that what they feel for the other person is mutual. And R.S. Grey has a knack for making these exact situations quirky, comical, and endearing in all the best ways.

In her newest release, Dearest Doctor, Grey demonstrates just how oblivious someone can be, especially when she has very little experience with personal relationships and a whole lot of emotions trapped inside her for a guy who she thinks won’t give her the time of day, at least if it’s not a topic in the field of medicine.

But Connor Easton is about to show Natalie Martin exactly how he feels about her, because now that she’s no longer his mentee and her brother, his best friend, has given him the green light to look out for her and stay with her while his place is renovated, he’s about to finally give into his desire and his need for the woman he wants; let’s hope she can see that his feelings for her are way more than plutonic or professional.

Grey does a great job illustrating just how married to her job Natalie is, but I do have to say that it didn’t make her very personable at the beginning of the story, which meant that I had to warm up to her as the story went on, when I usually click with both the hero and heroine from the start, and I would say that the biggest obstacle that Natalie and Connor have to overcome is her inability to read personal situations and clearly see what Connor wanted from her when he finally gave into his feelings for her and went all in.

I’m always excited to dive into a R.S. Grey romcom. I love the humor that she infuses into her story lines, and the uniqueness of the characters she creates. There hasn’t been a book that I haven’t found myself laughing out loud as I read it, and I’m looking forward to more of her words.

RELEASE BLITZ: Fake It ‘Til You Break It by Meagan Brandy

From USA Today and Wall Street Journal Bestselling author Meagan Brandy comes a new standalone, fake relationship romance with a twist!

FAKE IT ‘TIL YOU BREAK IT

By Meagan Brandy

Release Date: February 4

Synopsis

Fake.

That’s what we are.

That’s what we agreed to be.

I thought it would be harder, convincing everyone our school’s star receiver was mine and mine alone, but we played our parts well.

So well, the lines between us began to blur until they disappeared completely.

The thing about pretending, though, someone’s always better at it, and by the time I realized my mistake, there was no going back.

I fell for our lie.

And then everything fell apart.

It turned out, he and I were never playing the same game.

He didn’t have to break me to win.

But he did it anyway.

My Review

When I read the blurb for Meagan Brandy’s newest release, Fake It ’Til You Break It, I immediately started thinking about some of the quintessential teen romantic comedies that I’ve watched and loved for many years.

FITYBI uses a tried and true premise that centers around the popular football star and the smart, shy girl striking a deal for both of their benefits, not knowing that their plan would cause such an uproar and lead to places and feelings that they didn’t think possible.

I’ve read quite a few stories where the hero and heroine began as a fake couple but then slowly transformed into something real…something they both wanted, but didn’t know how to make a reality when everything was based on false pretenses when it started. And that’s definitely part of the obstacles surrounding Nico and Demi as they get their fake relationship up and running and find themselves wanting to step across the line that keeps them squarely in the fake zone.

Because Nico and Demi were never friends until they decided to undertake this crazy fake romance, anything real feelings between them grow slowly, which is exactly how it should work. The slow burn that Brandy crafts allows her hero and heroine to get past the walls that they both have up and get to know the real Nico and Demi – the ones behind their monikers and positions in their high school social dynamics.

Nico appeared to be something completely different than who he is at his core, but I feel like that was deliberate on his part…it allowed him to guard his heart…to protect himself against anyone or anything that could wreak havoc on his life, and while he didn’t see Demi being anything more than a means to an end, what he finds with her is something he’s bound and determined to keep.

I have to say…I’m glad that Demi is nothing like Raven – the heroine from Brandy’s Brayshaw High series. Demi is not outspoken but one of her best qualities is her fierce loyalty to those who matter to her, so I guess in one way, her devotion matches Raven’s. Demi feels more relatable to readers because of her personality and how she views things, and I loved watching her come into her own and be exactly who she wanted and needed to be .

What I love most about the dialogue that Meagan Brandy crafts for her characters is how much what they say is based on their differing personalities as well as what they bring out in each other when they’re together. The witty banter between Nico and Demi spoke to who they were at their core and just how easy it was for both of them to pretend to like each other. Another aspect of storytelling that Brandy does with ease is the angst factor. I have yet to read a book by her that doesn’t revel in all the angsty goodness that she weaves in among the pages of her books.

I liked how FITYBI had a much different feel from Brandy’s Brayshaw Boys; it was a great change of pace and it allowed her storytelling to keep many of the techniques she used in her other stories but also allows for an expansion of her writing, stylistically and creatively.
