My Review

All the Way is a fitting title for Becca and Owen’s story because going all in, taking their relationship to another level, exploring each other’s bodies, and helping Becca let go of her past and live more in the present seem to require both of them to take a chance and not only put their bodies on the line but also their hearts.

The fact that Becca can bring this hockey playboy to his knees and make him reconsider how he views relationships and what he wants out of them, meaning something other than a sexual release not only proves that Becca is stronger and more enticing than she thinks but also that Owen is capable of so much more than he thinks when it comes to what he has to offer women because while Owen definitely knows how to use his body for pleasure, Becca teaches him how to use his heart when it matters most.

What I loved the most about Becca and Owen’s story and their relationship as a whole is that they established a solid foundation as friends before anything romantic began, and while at the onset it was only supposed to be a physical relationship, more of a friends with benefits kind of arrangement, Owen figured out what he’d been missing and worked like heck to prove that he could be the exact man Becca wanted and needed.

I’m a huge sports romance reader, and I have had a great stretch of reads in this category and I would definitely place All the Way with the ones that I’ve thoroughly enjoyed.

My Review

I CANNOT express how amazing it was to be back in Kylie Scott’s Stage Dive series. They’re one of my absolute favorite rock bands and Mal is in my TOP FIVE of fave book boyfriends of all time!!

What I love even more about CLOSER is the fact that Scott broadens the scope of the Stage Dive family, allowing readers to see beyond the celebrity band members and focus more behind the scenes to the people who matter to either the guys or their girls.

Mae Cooper is no stranger to the rockers who live in the same building as her, and her friendship with Lena, Jimmy’s wife, puts her in close proximity  with these successful musicians, but her up and coming modeling career also puts her in the crosshairs of a stalker whose actions suggest that his a loose cannon willing to do just about anything to get the object of his infatuation. 

Crossing a professional line is not something people head into lightly, so it’s understandable that Mae Cooper and her bodyguard, Ziggy Thayer, spend more time fighting their feelings for each other than they do giving into their obvious mutual attraction and the sexual tension that always surrounds them.

Mae and Ziggy’s story is a falling for the bodyguard romance story that not only brings readers back to the lives of their beloved Stage Dive members but also introduces us to a couple who absolutely fits in with David, Mal, Jimmy, and Ben and their leading ladies. And while CLOSER was perhaps too quick of a read, anytime I can hang out with Mal and witness his crazy antics is fine by me.

My Review

Fear is a powerful feeling; so much so that it forces people to live life differently than they would if that overwhelming emotion didn’t guide their choices and make them fearful of being fully themselves in a way that allows others to see who they truly are. With panic comes secrets and lies, which means that doing anything to protect the information that is solely theirs is something they’ll fight to the death for, but when a threat to unravel more than their past seems imminent, Xena Morgan and Stark Security Agent Liam Foster will have to decide which is more inevitable – revealing every sordid detail of who they are or losing the chance to see what they could be together.

By design, every member of Stark Security is trained to protect and serve, not only their clients but also those who they’re involved with, whether it be on a professional or personal level. And while it seems that these guys try not to get too close to anyone because entanglements of that kind were long ago forgotten due to a number of reasons and secrets that these men hold close to the chest, always fighting to keep their demons at bay while going all in to ensure that no one gets hurt on their watch, including themselves.

J Kenner definitely knows how to write romantic suspense and the newest release in her Stark Security series, Ruined With You, finally gives readers Liam Foster’s story – Dallas’ best friend and one hell of a protective vigilante. And with the amount of baggage both he and the heroine have amidst fighting to outrun the danger that she seems to be in, we watch their undeniable chemistry become something that will either ruin or heal them.

The way J Kenner’s series and worlds co-exist with one another allows for readers to catch special appearances by some of their favorite Kenner characters and see how they interact with the newest recruits to the Stark team or other associates who work with the Stark conglomerate. And because I’m a huge fan of all things and people associated with Damien Stark, I always love getting the chance to see how some of my favorite people and couples are doing, especially after all that they have weathered.

I started writing the moment I could read. My first characters were Wibbley and Squig and I used MS Word and clipart to bring them to life when I was a kid in elementary school. I started seriously thinking about being a writer in High School and I remember the day exactly, because it was such an epiphany. I was always so uncertain. You know how everyone was always asking what you wanted to be when you were older? Well I NEVER could decide.

I wanted to be a marine biologist.

An actor.

A FIRE FIGHTER (thank you Joaquin Phoenix in Ladder 49 for that phase).

One day it hit me—A WRITER. I could do it ALL. Then you couldn’t stop me from writing. I penned my first novel at fifteen (but don’t ask me to show it to you, because it’s like I was in competition to beat the thesaurus). When I was diagnosed with a chronic illness, writing became even more important, because it became my therapy. When I wrote my characters, suddenly I wasn’t so alone.

My Review

Like most mythological stories, Darkest Sinner, Timber and Kyra’s book, is one of epic proportions, so much so, that it’s necessary for Rachel Van Dyken to craft and illustrate just how entangled their lives have always been, even before they knew one another or could understand why they always felt incomplete, as if their souls were calling for each other in order to feel whole all this time.

But before the characters or readers can truly see the scope of what was to be Timber and Kyra’s relationship, answers to what is happening to Timber and why it began when Kyra entered his life must be explored and handled because fear can only keep everything at bay for so long and as headstrong and driven Timber is, he needs that information so that everything is known and dealt with, even if that means his path changes.

Because Timber and Kyra’s backstories need to be established, weaving the details of their upbringings together in a way that clearly shows just what fate had in store for the two of them, the past did seem to overshadow the events in the present a bit too much, making me wish that more of the plot focused on the current situation or at least expanded on a few of the conflicts that needed to be dealt with in order for Timber and Kyra to move forward.

Even though I would have liked more of the present-day plot to unfold amidst the pages of this story, I truly enjoyed Timber and Kyra’s story. Timber was one of the first characters who intrigued me in this series, so I’m so glad that his story was finally told, and I have to say that the sexual tension of the paranormal variety seems so much hotter and fueled by more angst than what happens between their human counterparts…maybe it’s their extra abilities or heightened state…not completely sure but I do know that I love reading it!

As a high school English teacher who adores mythology and loves to see how authors use the concepts of fate and destiny in their stories, Van Dyken’s spin on these ideas worked extremely well, and I hope she continues to explore so much more in her paranormal world!

My Review

Confession: at the end of Fallen Saint, I was so angry at Monica James…for real, I couldn’t control my emotions, and even though I can usually see past the events that occur, understanding that their story is not over…that there’s more to come and that part will bring everything full circle, it wasn’t enough to calm me…to ease my mind that everything will work out in the end because it all seemed so dire when book 2 ended.

Because I don’t want to give anything away, this review is going to be a little bit different…I’m going to explore the situations/characters that intrigued me throughout my reading experience of All the Pretty Things trilogy.

First, the title of the trilogy itself. At face value, the title doesn’t seem to fit Willow and Saint’s journey. Anything ‘pretty’ always seemed to be overshadowed by lies, duplicitous acts, and corrupt characters. The light inside always seemed overshadowed by malicious acts that brought more darkness than anything else. But I think what readers are supposed to take away from the series’ title is the fact that there is beauty even in the darkness and that although the path may have been one filled with hate, jealously, and spite, when it mattered most, the light…the beauty of the moments shared between characters is what kept them fighting toward an ending that most would have not been able to get to due to everything that was thrown their way.

It intrigues me how an author can construct and craft a character who is supposed to be seen as the ‘bad guy’ or the enemy when it comes to the hero and heroine’s happy ending and turns this character into someone who the readers care for and, in some ways, want the heroine to take a chance with, especially when it seems like all hope is lost for the hero finding his way back to her. When Alek was introduced, I was made to hate him, partially because I didn’t truly understand his role or what he truly wanted out of the situation at hand but also because he was in the way for Willow and Saint’s happiness. But something happened throughout the course of book three that had altered my perception of him and humanized him in a way that doesn’t seem to happen frequently when it comes to one of the antagonists in a story.

Willow and Saint’s journey was never easy; in fact, there were parts that I didn’t know how they would come through it in one piece, and for all intents and purposes, they aren’t whole when their story ends…they can’t be, not with everything they faced and endured, not with what remains when they rise above the darkness and into their own kind of light. But the fact that they get to that place is all that matters to me as a reader. And while the twists and turns Monica James’ took me on in these three books felt like cruel and unusual punishment, I wouldn’t change my journey because it truly illustrated the growth of these characters and what they were willing to do in order to be together.
