From New York Times bestselling author Kim Karr comes a brand new powerful standalone in the Connections Series.

We each had a plan.
We knew what we were doing.
Until love got in our way.

Him:
The first time I laid eyes on Gemma Ross, she belonged to another man. He literally owned her. I hated the very thought.
I wanted her to be mine.

Even though I knew I shouldn’t, I couldn’t help but watch the way she swayed her hips when she walked in my direction, raise a brow when she pretended not to notice me, get excited over the way her skin prickled whenever she got close.
I turned her on.

Thinking about her like that wasn’t part of the plan. Getting addicted to the way she arched beneath me wasn’t part of the plan. Caring about what happened to her was definitely not part of the plan.
F*ck me.

Now my plan has to be altered. I can’t allow her to get caught in the crossfire. She has to leave, but she insists on staying. She has a secret—a reason she allows herself to belong to that obnoxious prick. She won’t tell me what she’s hiding unless I tell her why I need to know.
I can’t do that.

There’s another way to get what I want—a little game of cat and mouse. And I’m a really good hunter. Her being gone is for the best. This isn’t love. It can’t be.

Or that’s what I keep telling myself.

Her:
The first time Caleb Holt strode into the room I was certain I knew his type. A man too gorgeous for his own good, he was sexy, brooding, and so full of himself, I thought he could easily be fooled.
I was wrong.

Those brilliant green eyes followed me everywhere. I swore he could see into my soul, read my determination, uncover my secrets with just one glance.
It worried me.

I should have stayed away from him, but I couldn’t fight the searing desire that flowed through my veins and the burning passion that coated my skin.
I didn’t really want to.

Before him, I had a plan to get back what was taken from me. The cost was irrelevant. Now I’m not sure I can sell my soul to the devil because I fear it belongs to him. The problem is he has a plan of his own, and I can’t risk his plan taking priority over mine.

Not even for him.
Not even for love.
So game on.

Our passion burns hotter than a wildfire.

My life with my husband is what dreams are made of. We have a love that knows no bounds and nothing compares to being married to him.

There’s only one thing missing.

A baby.

Every month I hold that white stick in my hand and hope beyond hope it turns positive. It’s been five long years but today that tiny little plus sign finally appears. Now everything with River Wilde is perfect, and nothing can change that.

Nothing.

Life is sweeter than any fantasy.

Her lips are like sugar. Her body is my temple. Her soul belongs to me.

And now that she’s having my baby, happiness is all I see when I look at her.

That is until it isn’t.

I never imagined a short ride to the beach just hours after discovering we were pregnant would turn dark and dangerous. That the ghosts of our past had somehow wormed their way out of their bottomless black hole in order to reign down utter chaos on our lives.

With everything I hold close to my heart on the line, I’ll do whatever it takes to protect what’s mine.

There’s nothing I wouldn’t do for Dahlia London.

Nothing.

Review

Fine

The Webster dictionary defines it as “good, acceptable, or satisfactory,” but based on its societal use, we learn to see fine as anything but – more so said as a way to avoid getting into anything too personal, but clearly indicating that life is not good at the moment and the person who said it doesn’t want to go any further than that even though it’s clear that things are not well.

For Levee Williams and Sam Rivers, those feelings of being fine lead them both to a cross roads in their life, unsure of how to rebuild, refocus, and reenergize when all they feel like doing is succumbing to the pain, the pressure, and the sadness by falling into the darkness.

Great

From an onlooker’s perspective, Levee and Sam’s lives are wonderful. She’s a pop princess with droves of fans and more money than she can spend, and he does something he loves by repurposing furniture and selling it at a high price. But beyond the façade…beyond the smoke and mirrors, are two people who are consumed with sadness and depression…two people who don’t know where to turn in order to feel something besides pain because that’s what’s wrapped around them, refusing to let go and taking them further down in the process.

Can Levee and Sam be each other’s great? Or are they destined to keep plummeting, free falling without any chance of survival?

How does one Fall Up? Well, if everyone had a Sam Rivers in their lives, they would easily understand how it’s done and why Levee never questioned giving in and climbing up. But the way it’s described is not easy, which is clearly illustrated through Levee’s internal conflict and quick reactions as well as her struggle to admit that she needs help.

Aly Martinez does a fantastic job of putting readers inside both Levee and Sam’s heads and forcing us to feel every single emotion and hear every single dark thought. Martinez gives us the insight into Levee’s mind that no one else can see because if they did, they would have stepped in long ago because she is anything but fine, and the only way that Sam can recognize Levee’s pain is because he feels the same way albeit due to different circumstances, but it’s still something that defines him as much as it defines her, and Sam’s recognition and caretaking attributes are the only things that can catch Levee, but she has to be willing to walk back down with Sam, which is a decision that Levee won’t be able to make until she’s ready to admit what’s going on and deal with it head on, and that’s the journey that Aly Martinez takes readers on, and it’s a ride we’ll never forget.

I absolutely loved the message of The Fall Up! Everyone who reads it will definitely feel a connection to what Sam and Levee go through, even if only in small ways. Aly Martinez is such an extremely talented writer because her words mean more than she probably even realizes, which is why she’s one of my favorites!

Can’t wait to see what Aly gives readers next…maybe a book for Henry???

REVIEW AND EXCERPT: PRETTY AS A PEACH by Juliette Poe

We’re heading back to Whynot, NC, y’all! Pour yourself a swig of peach moonshine and sit back and relax with PRETTY AS A PEACH by Juliette Poe. Things are bloomin’ down in Whynot, and we not just talking about peach trees…

Synopsis

Mainer Farms is steeped in family history, but it’s also deep in debt from the effects of the ever-changing farming industry. Not about to let his family’s legacy go under, Colt Mancinkus is willing to do anything he can to save the farm.

Darby Culhane is the new farmer in Whynot, North Carolina, and she’s proving to be quite the forbidden temptation for Colt. Darby isn’t looking for anything but a fresh start, and she’s got it all figured out. Get settled in? Check. Apply for the rural county grant? Check. Confrontation with the steaming mad, smoking hot local farmer? Well, that wasn’t on the agenda.

As pretty as she is sweet, Colt can’t help but be drawn to Darby’s…peaches. No really, she’s a peach farmer. Get that mind out of the gutter, and get on down to the farm to see what happens when circumstances force Colt and Darby to team up. They may just find that the peach trees aren’t the only things in bloom.

Review

Small town romances are one of my favorite types of stories because the angst is low and there are plenty of laughs and heartwarming incidences to indulge in when it comes to the story line. AND, there’s no better place to experience all that small towns have to offer than Whynot, North Carolina. Not only do readers get to experience residents’ joys and horrors of living in a place where everyone knows everyone else’s business, but we also get to truly know the townspeople and one crazy and loving family in particular, the Mancinkus family.

Pretty as a Peach is Colt’s story with Whynot newcomer, Darby Culhane – a single mom vying for the same grant that Colt wants/needs to save his family’s farm and keep the legacy alive, which is a definite point of contention for the long-time resident and the newcomer. But it’s pretty obvious from their initial encounter that Darby and Colt are both dealing with contradictory feelings for one another…because as much as they seem to dislike each other, there are also indications that they want to get down and dirty with one another in the most delicious ways.

I love the fact that Juliette Poe usually pairs one of the residents of Whynot with a newcomer to the town who, at first glance, doesn’t seem to fit the town or the person they end up with, but as the story continues, it becomes crystal clear just how good these two would be together regardless of their differences or the extenuating circumstances that may pit them against each other.

Readers can’t help but wear a huge smile on their face as they read Darby and Colt’s story because even when they’re not getting along, the underlying sexual tension is always there and just waiting for Darby and Colt to finally give into what’s been simmering just beneath the surface.

Pretty as a Peach is a sweet and romantic read that allows readers to feel like they’re honorary members of the town of Whynot, and as things heat up between Colt and Darby, getting both of their perspectives helps readers to truly understand what’s at stake for both of them and also what their feelings for one another mean for them both personally and professionally.

Excerpt

Every Sunday for as long as I can remember, my mama, Catherine Mancinkus, has cooked a large family meal that was served promptly at two PM. This gave her the opportunity to attend Sunday church services with plenty of time left to come home to make a feast fit for a king. There were always the usual staples of a southern Sunday dinner. Biscuits or cornbread, sweet tea, and a homemade dessert. We would also have ham, meatloaf, or country-fried steak. There were always classic sides like collards, macaroni and cheese, or butter beans.

When I was around six, Pap came to live full time in North Carolina from Pittsburgh. Ever since his move here, our Sunday dinner got supplemented with some of his favorites he grew up with in his Polish/Lithuanian family. That meant there was usually halupki or sauerkraut served. Sometimes Mama would make pierogis.

Us Mancinkus kids loved it. We considered these additions to Sunday dinner to be exotic, sort of how we viewed our eccentric grandfather from up North. Pap, on the other hand, became enamored of southern cooking and was completely fine with ham, collards, and cornbread for dinner. He was willing to give up his northern-rooted food. However, we were not since we had come to love it, so my mama had a very eclectic selection of food on Sunday.

Today the Mancinkus dining room is filled to capacity. My dad, Jerry, sits on one end of the long table, and Pap sits on the other. My mother sits to the left of my dad, followed by Trixie, her fiancé Ry, and then Laken, who is looking morose over the fact Jake could not be here since he’s in California on business.

On my side of the table, Lowe sits to my right with his wife Mely beside him and Larkin on the other side. There’s no conversation going on in this exact moment because we’re all too busy passing bowls around the table, counterclockwise as is our tradition. I take a large scoop of red beans and rice from a white ceramic bowl before passing it to Lowe. My hands are immediately filled with a platter of jalapeno cornbread. I take two slices.

“When are you going to fill us in about the grant you got awarded?” Pap says from my right.

I throw him a smirking glance, because he likes to stir stuff up. But the joke is on him. I had intended to lay out my plans for the vineyard tonight to the entire family.

Handing the cornbread off to Lowe, I take a sip of my sweet tea before I answer. I take a moment to glance around the table and see that everyone’s attention is on me with keen interest, as evidenced by the fact they’re all ignoring the delicious food before them.

I decide to do them a favor and make it short. “I’m going to plant grapes on the western side of the farm. Some muscadine but also some vinifera grapes. And then I’m going to make wine from them.”

Once again, I look around the table. Dad, Laken, and Larkin have their mouths open in surprise. My mom stares at me with pride. I glance to my right and see Lowe is nodding—perhaps tacit approval without hearing more—and Mely has an expression on her face that seems to say she can’t determine whether this is a good idea.

It’s Pap who asks the first question. “What’s your game plan?”

Nice. Simple. Nonjudgmental. Pap’s got it going on tonight.

“I had to write up a five-year business plan when I submitted for the expansion grants. Anyone of y’all can take a look at it if you want. The short story, though, is it’s going to take two to three years for the vines to produce. Another year after that to get the wine production settled. I’m hoping by the fifth year I’ll be able to break even, and we can start making a profit after that. Assuming our wine tastes good enough to sell.”

“You’re going to give up some of the leased land?” my dad asks. There’s a tiny bit of doubt in his voice, but that’s understandable. He hasn’t been working morning, noon, and night on this project the way I have for the last few years, so he doesn’t know the ins and outs the way I do. He’s also been removed from the business of our current operations, preferring to do semi-retired tinkering around the farm as is his due.

I nod. “The expansion grant will cover some of that lost revenue, but I have enough repeat buyers for our cattle I’ve been gradually expanding over the last few years that it will compensate.”

And that’s all my dad needs to know. He and my mom put me in charge of Mainer Farms, and I’ve been running it solidly for the last few years. We’ve been struggling, but that’s mainly due to our inability to maintain our tobacco crops. Imported tobacco is just way too cheap for a smaller farm like us to compete with, so we’ve had to get creative and find other avenues to keep the farm going. While the easy fix was to lease out land, by doing the cattle and now the vineyard, I’m hoping we can become a fully self-sustaining farm once again.

“I think it sounds like an amazing idea,” Mely says from the other side of Lowe, leaning forward to look past him to me. I shoot her a grateful smile in return before she says, “You realize you could actually use tourism as an income earner once you get up and running. You could open up a restaurant and have wine tastings.”

Chuckling, I give her another nod. “It’s something I would like to research, but that might be about ten years down the road.”

“What do you need from us, honey?” my mom asks.

My answer to her is simple. “Just your support.”

“You always have that,” she says, and then my cheeks turn hot when she continues, “We are so proud of what you’ve done with the farm. We believe you can accomplish anything.”

“Amen to that,” Larkin says.

And to my surprise, Laken holds up her glass of sweet tea. “To my brother, Colt Mancinkus. The finest farmer these parts has ever seen.”

Everyone follows suit and picks up their glasses, raising them high. They all say things such as, “here, here” or “to Colt”.

“We need to spike this sweet tea with some peach moonshine,” Pap says, and everyone laughs.

But not for long as my mom gets up and goes into the kitchen, reaching into a back cabinet where she keeps some of Billy Crump’s mason jars filled with his specialty peach moonshine.

This has turned into a good day. I generally expected my family to be supportive. Like I’ve always said, there’s not one of them sitting at this table who wouldn’t give their own skin for this farm. But my idea is risky. If this doesn’t work, the farm could go under. And yet every single one of them in here tonight looks upon me as if they don’t have a doubt in the world I can pull this off.

I love my family.

On Hart’s Boardwalk: An On Dublin Street and Hart’s Boardwalk crossover novella

One of New York Times bestselling author Samantha Young’s most beloved couples returns for the first time in a brand new novella set ten years after her blockbuster bestseller Before Jamaica Lane…

Nate and Liv have a great life together but they miss the spontaneity and freedom they enjoyed early on in their romance. Careers and their children have inevitably kept them busy, so when Nate discovers Liv is feeling disconnected from him, he plans an anniversary trip to the idyllic seaside town of Hartwell, Delaware. There he hopes they will have the opportunity they’ve been craving—a chance to reinvent themselves and fall in love all over again.

With each new day comes a new adventure, from wedding crashing at the five-star boardwalk hotel to pretending they are two strangers having a chance encounter at the boardwalk bar. In the midst of this daring, sexually charged game of romantic rediscovery, Nate and Liv discover the only constant they need is each other.

Review

‘Marriages are not perfect because people aren’t perfect.’

These are sage words that all married couples should remember, even fictional ones, because life isn’t easy…there’s a tremendous amount of ups and downs and even the most in love and strongest couples go through rough patches, and it’s during those times that these two individuals who pledged their lives to one another need to try harder, never give up, and never stop fighting for a love that’s meant to be forever.

When I saw that Samantha Young was writing another story about, Nate and Liv, one of my favorite couples of her On Dublin Street series, I couldn’t get my hands on an ARC quick enough because I wanted to see how they were doing after the unconventional way that these two started their relationship in Before Jamaica Lane, and while it hurts my heart when a pair of characters I adore struggle with their marriage, it’s a realistic portrayal of what any couple might encounter as they spend their years together.

When On Hart’s Boardwalk begins, Liv feels completely disconnected from Nate…I would go so far as to say that she feels shut out on an emotional level and it’s that distance that she can’t seem to shorten that has Liv’s insecurities and neediness wreaking havoc on her heart. For 10 blissful years of marriage, Liv and Nate have been a team, creating an incredible life together and raising their two girls in a loving environment, but with the death of one of Nate’s good friends, things have changed between Liv and Nate; she feels invisible and undesired and until those issues are discussed and resolved, Liv suffers silently and the tension between them will never dissipate if an honest conversation doesn’t occur.

I can’t tell you how much I adored the continuation of Nate and Olivia’s story…partly because their situation is extremely relatable and it will definitely resonate with readers but also because it allowed me to revisit a cast characters that I miss desperately. Because Young creates multifaceted characters, readers feel like they truly know and understand them and it makes reading about them that much more enjoyable.

The fact that Young brings two of her series together and provides Nate and Liv with an opportunity to reconnect in Hartwell, Delaware, makes the setting a perfect backdrop for them to find their way back to one another, and the cameos characters from the Hart’s Boardwalk series provides readers with further insight into how the couples are doing and it also gives readers an outside perspective on just how good Nate and Liv look together and just how much love surrounds them.

Marriage is definitely an adventure, and the message that Young seems to send to her readers through Liv and Nate’s story is that as long as the good times outweigh the bad ones and the couple doesn’t give up on one another then they can tackle anything that life throws at them, and that idea resonates from the pages of On Hart’s Boardwalk in a sexy, sweet, and heartfelt way.

5 Poison Apples

Excerpt

Although Nate had agreed to wait to have sex until we played out our little strangers in a bar fantasy, I could tell he was disgruntled. For some reason his irritation made me want to torment him even more. After we showered (separately) and dressed, I grabbed his hand when we walked down to breakfast, trailing the fingertips of my free hand over the skin on his forearm exposed by his T-shirt.

Walking down the stairs he frowned at me. “You’re doing that deliberately.”

“Are you saying I don’t get to touch you at all until tomorrow night?”

“No.” He suddenly stopped and pressed me up against the wall of the stairwell, his mouth inches from mine. His hand, the one not holding mine, slipped under my sundress, his fingertips caressing their way up my inner thigh.

“Nate,” I gasped, looking down the stairs to make sure the entrance was empty.

“You tease me, babe…” His hot breath whispered against my lips. “I tease you tenfold in return.”

I fought with the desire flooding me and the concern over disrespecting our very nice inn owner. My concern won out and I reached for his wrist under my dress and forcefully removed his hand with a flash of ire in my eyes that made him smirk in triumph. “Not here.”

“Just playing your game.” He stood back and then began leading me down the stairs like nothing had happened.

There was only one other couple in the dining hall that early in the morning, an older couple who smiled warmly at us and greeted us ‘hello’ as we grabbed some coffee from the buffet area.

We’d just taken a seat at a table when Aydan came out of the kitchen and beamed at us. “You two are up early. Jetlag?”

“Yeah,” I said, fighting off a yawn. “I’m still kind of feeling it actually. But this will help.” I raised my coffee cup.

“So will some food.” She handed us each a menu. “I’ll be back in a minute to take your order.”

We were looking over the small menu and I was trying to decide between scrambled eggs, potatoes, and bacon; pancakes, maple syrup and bacon; or waffles. “I forgot how good breakfast is here.” I glanced over at my husband, who seemed less excited than me about breakfast. “You’re getting the egg white frittata, aren’t you?”

Nate used to indulge more food-wise but he’d found, as we all found, that he couldn’t metabolize crappy food as well as he used to. So, he only indulged every now and then.

“Aye.” He nodded, his eyes twinkling with amusement. He knew it bugged me that he had more willpower than I did.

“I’m getting the waffles,” I immediately decided.

Nate laughed and leaned over to caress the top of my ass, which thankfully was hidden by the back of my chair from anyone else’s few. “You eat whatever you want, babe. We’ll both enjoy the fruits of that labor.”

I should have glared at him for feeling me up in the breakfast room of this quaint inn, but I couldn’t, because it felt like I had my old Nate back. The guy who made me feel sexy and wanted no matter what. So instead I gave him a soft smile.

For some reason my reaction made his gaze turn liquid with heat and he impulsively leaned over, cupped my face in his hand and kissed me. Hard. Deep. Quick.

When he let me go I couldn’t even think long enough to be embarrassed that he’d just Frenched me in front of an elderly couple who were trying to eat their breakfast. I could only blink, dazed, my lips wet and waiting for more. “What was that for?”

“Because I love you.” He shrugged, like it was most obvious answer in the world.

Before I could say anything else the sound of Bailey Hartwell’s raised voice met our ears from somewhere near reception. “It’s ridiculous that’s why!”

Nate and I shot each other amused looks, and pretended to peruse the menu even though I knew were both listening in. Nosy buggers.

Her voice was lower now, and the fact that we hadn’t heard another voice reply suggested

she was on the phone. “Vaughn, we have a house,” she hissed. “We don’t need another… why would you sell it? It’s beautiful… we don’t need to buy a house together to be together… it’s a waste of money…” there was a longer stretch of silence. “Okay, if you’re that intent on wasting money why don’t we just strip the house out and make it the way we both want it… it sits right on the water…. Stop being romantic when I’m trying to be practical, you know it confuses me… Stop it, I’m at the inn.” Her voice dropped even lower. Her breath seemed to catch. “You’re going to pay for that, Tremaine… no… no… Vaughn… okay, fine…. I love you too, you, handsome bastard.”

That seemed to be the end of the conversation, and I turned to Nate, laughter bubbling in my throat. “That sounded familiar.”

He grinned. “Didn’t it.”

“I don’t think our inn owner is going to Scotland anytime soon.”

“No?”

“No. If she’s got what I’ve got, she’s staying put.”

Homer Carnegie. Admit it—you know my name. Your kid’s got my e-trading card. Your husband sits up straighter when I stroll onto the TV screen. He knows I’m going to crack the bat and save the day. Even your grandma’s jonesing for my autograph. But women my age? They’re the worst. Or would that be the best?

It’s not my fault they line up at the door. They catch my balls all right, two at a time sometimes, or even three. Believe me, everybody wins.

At least they did—until the video. I heard TMZ paid a million for a bird’s eye view of Homer on his A-game. The only folks who didn’t watch with eager eyes? Red Sox management. They want me benched, or worse, shipped off to rehab.

It’s a long story, what happens next. How I end up on a boat, bound for the world’s most remote island: Tristan da Cunha. Just a speck of dust in the Atlantic.

Except my heart is there.

I don’t know that when I step onto the boat.

I don’t know a lot of things.

What I’ll covet…

What I’ll lose…

RELEASE LAUNCH: TEMPTING LITTLE TEASE by Kendall Ryan

A hot new standalone romance from New York Times bestseller, Kendall Ryan.

She’s the tutor I hired to teach me Italian.

She’s way too young for me, but she’s also gorgeous, bright and filled with a curiosity about life that I find incredibly refreshing.

It’s fucking adorable.

I’m old enough to know better, but this pretty young thing tempts me beyond belief. And for the first time in my life, I can see myself falling.

***
Is this what it’s like to be pursued by an older man? The complete confidence, the lack of expectations, the sincerity?

My God, it’s exhilarating.

Quinn Kingsley is totally unexpected. I’m moving to Italy in three weeks to teach English, and while I never expected something so real to develop between us so quickly, our chemistry is undeniable.

There’s something so sexy about this back and forth he and I share. Flirting with this man is like playing with fire, and I’m bound to get burned.

Io sono attratto da te. I’m attracted to you, he tells me.

But is our attraction enough to get us through the complications of a massive age gap and an international love affair?

Only one way to find out…

Review

From Quinn Kingsley’s perspective his new tutor is quite the tempting little tease, but the most time he spend with her, practicing his Italian, the more Quinn realizes that he wants Alessandra to be so much more than a temptress. He wants her to be his everything, but with their age difference and Alessandra’s plans to go to Italy in 3 weeks to teach English, Quinn doesn’t have much time to persuade Alessandra to take a chance on him and what they could be because even if he could, Quinn doesn’t want to be the man who stands in Alessandra’s way from living her dreams and accomplishing her goals, so in 21 days, he’ll have to let her go…the question is will he be worth coming back to….

Quinn is the Kingsley brother I was most intrigued by, partly because Kendall Ryan doesn’t shed much light on the kind of man he is in his younger brothers’ stories and partly because I’m always interested to see what the quiet ones are all about. And Quinn definitely doesn’t disappoint because he’s so much more than the grumpy elder brother who attempts to keep his brothers in line and their business on top. He’s sexy, smart, funny, and quite the dirty talker, and while he’s learned quite a bit in his 38 years, he knows that there’s always more knowledge to be acquired and a bevy of opportunities to take risks and pursuing a younger woman who makes him feel things he hasn’t felt in quite some time is probably the biggest risk of all.

Alessandra is definitely an old soul, so the fact that she’s only 22 to Quinn’s 38 doesn’t really seem forbidden or taboo. Where the age difference does become a factor is in how much Alessandra still wants to accomplish and experience in her life. Quinn’s a successful businessman living a great life, so it seems he might be at a different phase in his life than Alessandra, but that doesn’t mean them getting together is doomed due to their contrasting lifestyles.

Tempting Little Tease is a quick, insta-love story that illustrates what happens when two people are willing to risk everything for love and to obtain their goals/dreams, and while those two concepts seem contradictory at least when it comes to Quinn and Alessandra, it’s clear that what they feel for one another is something worth fighting for even if it’s only distance that they need to figure out how to work around.

Review

Sophie Oak’s small town romances are the perfect escape because they take readers on a sinfully steamy and sweet journey that explores characters’ delectable dreams as well as their dirty desires and the steps they take to make them a reality.

And just like the little voyeurs readers are, we get to come along for the ride and experience all of the passion, all of the drama, all of the suspense, and all of the kink our little hearts’ desire as the main characters try to find a way to protect each other as well as give one another everything they’ve always wanted in love and in life.

Bliss, Colorado, might be a small community, but it’s full of big personalities, and two that seem to stand out amongst the rest are twin brothers, Max and Rye, and what I wouldn’t give to see what other things are ‘big’ about them;) Lucky girl, Rachel Swift, actually gets to experience all that these brothers have to give her, but it does take a bit for all three to be on the same page, which means that jealousy is a dominant feeling for Max and Rye until Rachel figures out that she doesn’t have to fight her attraction for either of the brothers because what they’ve always dreamed of his sharing a woman, just like they share almost everything else, and it looks like Rachel’s the one that they want.

But Rachel, Max, and Rye’s connection doesn’t come together until further into the story; in fact, Rachel and Max are actually a couple – a twosome if you will – for most of the book, which is the one thing about Three to Ride that really didn’t sit well with me. Don’t get me wrong, I completely understand that a Ménage à Trois relationship doesn’t always have to have all three members participating in sexual activities…one-on-one time is probably a huge part of keeping a bond tight and secure, but Rye does not have the same connection with Rachel that Max does, and I guess because I’m not used to that happening, I felt bad for Rye and didn’t feel like the threesome would ever really seem equal because of the amount of time Rachel and Max had spent alone.

Despite my concerns for Rye, though, I really enjoyed Three to Ride; the suspense surrounding Rachel’s obsessed stalker added another dimension to the storyline and gave the brothers to keep Rachel close, and it also gave them a sense of duty when it came to not only protecting their woman, but their town as well.

I definitely would love to head back to Bliss, Colorado and see what other colorful characters there are and what their life stories entail.

Excerpt

“You should have told me who you were the minute I stepped into the shower with you,” she complained, shoving a blue T-shirt over her head.

Rye ran a frustrated hand through his wet hair. It was so much longer wet. “I couldn’t breathe enough to talk. I’m sorry. I should have locked the door. I should have skipped the damn shower. Hell, I should have spent the night somewhere else. I knew something like this would happen.”

She calmed down as she noticed Rye looked a little tormented. When she thought about it, it kind of was inevitable. Maybe not the stroking him part, but certainly the seeing him less than clothed. “Rye, we didn’t do anything we shouldn’t have. It was a mistake. I’m sure this isn’t the first time a woman got twin brothers confused and ended up seeing more than she should. It’s your house. I’m the one who should be more careful.”

Rye turned away from her. He placed both hands on the dresser. His head fell forward as though he was very tired. “We’ve shared a room all of our lives until a year ago. Even after our parents were gone and we could have, probably should have, taken our own rooms, we didn’t. We moved in here and, when we had the money, renovated to suit our needs. We built this room and that bathroom for the future. I don’t know, Rachel. I just always expected him to be there.”

“I am not trying to take your brother away from you,” Rachel said quietly. Was all this drama worth it when she knew she wasn’t going to be able to stay? Her heart hurt at the thought, but sooner or later, she would have to move on. Until Tommy was caught, she was in danger and so was everyone around her.

Rye sighed. “Oh, Rachel, I’m not jealous of you.” He turned to her, and the intensity in his blue eyes made her heart speed up. “I’m gut-churningly jealous of Max. All of our lives, I’ve been the one to find our women. He’s a charmless bastard who went along for the ride. I’m the one who wanted to get married. I’m the one who wanted to have kids. He just wanted to fuck. Now, he’s the one who finds you? How the hell is that fair?”

She stood there, watching him at war with himself. She wanted to wrap her arms around him and soothe him, but she didn’t have the right. From everything she knew, Max had decided to go straight. He wanted a normal one-on-one relationship. He would probably be upset if he knew how attracted she was to Rye.

Rye shook his head. “I’m leaving tonight. I’ll pack a couple of things and stay at Stefan’s until I can find an apartment.”

“Don’t.” She was horrified at the thought. “I’ll leave. This is your home. I never meant to cause this much trouble.”

Rye smiled slightly, but it was a sad thing. “I can’t watch you and Max. I’ll get to the point where I can be friendly, and we can pretend to be some sort of normal family, but I’ll never stop wanting you. I can’t live in the same house and watch you settle in with my brother. Do you understand the relationship I want?”

“You want to share me with Max.” The statement came out in a low, breathy voice. She had meant to sound matter-of-fact, not sultry.

“I want you between us, Rachel. I want you to be our wife and our lover and the mother of our children. I want you to sleep in between us. I want you screaming your pleasure when we take you at the same time. Do you understand?”

“Yes, I understand.” Her mouth was dry as she thought about it. She could have both of them. Two gorgeous men, loving her, wanting her. It was the fantasy of a lifetime.

“Max doesn’t want that anymore. I have to choose between pursuing the woman I think I was meant to be with or honoring the brother I’ve shared a life with from the moment we were conceived. Know this, Rach, if he weren’t already madly in love with you, if you hadn’t already chosen him, I would be all over you. That’s why I have to leave.”

NY Times and USA Today bestselling author Lexi Blake lives in North Texas with her husband, three kids, and the laziest rescue dog in the world. She began writing at a young age, concentrating on plays and journalism. It wasn’t until she started writing romance and urban fantasy that she found the stories of her heart. She likes to find humor in the strangest places and believes in happy endings no matter how odd the couple, threesome, or foursome may seem.

Review

I’ve never been to Paris, but I took four years of French in high school as well as four more years in college, and when the lectures and/or assignments turned to Paris and its overwhelming beauty and sensual atmosphere, my wanderlust for seeing it in person dominated my mindset and made me long for a time in my life where I could visit the City of Lights & Love and revel in all that it has to offer.

Unfortunately, that time has not yet occurred, so while I wait to make my dreams a reality, I’m glad that I can dive into a story – one set in one of the most romantic locations on Earth – and experience all that is Paris, France, through the eyes and ears of two fabulous main characters and an author who knows just how to ‘romance’ readers, inviting us to immerse ourselves in the wonder and awe that a city like Paris brings.

What I love most about Griffin and Joy’s story and how Lauren Blakely presents it is that readers take this amazing journey of love and adventure with the hero and heroine; we get to witness the build-up of attraction between them and the path that they take from strangers to workmates to friends and then finally to lovers, and boy is it an entertaining dance Griffin and Joy take as they try to temper that lust due to the nature of their professional relationship, but readers know it’s only a matter of time before they give into what’s been developing from the start and because Blakely does such an amazing job of bringing readers with her as Griffin and Joy’s professional interactions become much more private, readers can almost pinpoint when the characters’ lust-filled feelings no longer remain hidden and not acting on them is no longer an option.

Through Blakely’s descriptive writing, my love affair with Paris flourished and because she constructed such multifaceted characters my love affair with her stories continued, and anytime a writer can make her readers feel like they are part of the cast of characters who surround the hero and heroine and watch their connection grow into something amazing, she’s done an incredible job of bringing not only her characters but the romantic and sensual atmosphere to life in unforgettable ways.

Griffin and Joy’s story is a whirlwind romance of epic proportions, and it’s one I’d gladly take over and over again because not only is it one hell of a love story, it’s also an amazing way to experience a foreign city in all its splendor because Lauren Blakely captures all that Paris is and all that it means to those who live and travel there, and that kind of description cannot happen unless it was experienced firsthand, and I love the fact that Blakely got to experience wanderlust as she brought Griffin and Joy’s book to life because, to me, it makes it that much more powerful, giving Blakely every advantage in order to showcase a love story between two people and for the city that is all about love, romance, and beauty.

GRIFFIN~

There’s one word a woman can utter that gets a man’s blood flowing south instantly.

Okay. That’s not true.

There are about twenty thousand that produce that effect, because when you fancy a woman, nearly anything remotely sexy can drive you crazy with desire for her.

Imagine if she says, I’m going to take off a sock.

Boom. Implied nudity. Hard as a rock.

Perhaps she asks, Do you like strawberries?

Obviously that means she wants me to eat them off her breasts. Flagpole raised.

But then there are some that are so direct, so spot on, she might as well be saying, I’d like you to fuck me hard all night long.

Which, for the record, might possibly be my favorite thing a woman could ever say to me. In fact, I might need to make that my own personal addendum to the bucket list.

At the moment, though, the word is proposition.

As I walk to the restaurant Joy has chosen on Rue de Bac, I keep replaying that deliciously inviting message.

I have a proposition for you.

What could it possibly be but some fantastic arrangement where we shag all night and still get along for work? No strings, no pain, no heartbreak. Sign me up right-the-hell now. That would be fantastic. A promise of orgasm-drenched nights, capped off by an uncomplicated good-bye when I take off for Indonesia in a few more months, finally visiting the places around the world Ethan and I marked on a map when we were younger.

As I round the corner, Christian’s words have the temerity to appear in the forefront of my brain.

Don’t you make the same mistake. You can’t mix business and pleasure. We’re lucky to have the jobs we have.

We are lucky to have our jobs. I don’t disagree with his basic premise, but I doubt Joy’s proposition will jeopardize mine. Besides, I really only need to keep my job for the next two and a half months. That’s all she needs me for at her company, and then I’m gone. Who knows where I’ll end up after I take off on my great adventure? We made so many marks on that map. If I found it, it’d be full of pinholes, I’m sure.

Travel everywhere, Ethan wrote.

He can’t. So I must.

There’s simply no way that Joy’s have hot sex with me every single night starting now will interfere with my bigger plans. I can juggle business and pleasure. I can enjoy the woman, the gig, and the checking off of each item on the bucket list.

When I reach the door of Gabriel’s, a restaurant started by a French-Brazilian cook who’s now become a rock star chef in New York City, I’m more certain than ever that I can have my cake and eat it, too. Preferably off Joy’s soft supple belly.

With that enticing image front and center, I smooth a hand down my black shirt, push open the door, and head inside.

“Wanderlust is the love story to end all! I laughed, cried, dreamed, and hoped. To say I was transfixed by this story is to underrate its power. I am a romantic at heart and this book spoke to me like no other.”
-Gloria Herrera for As You Wish Reviews

“Packed with flirty banter, a slow-building, yet scorching hot romance, and characters that are enchanting, voracious, and delightfully unreserved, Wanderlust is a hopelessly romantic, heart-meltingly sweet love story from Lauren Blakely.”
-Yvette for Nose Stuck in a Book

“Loved this! Wanderlust is a delightful and utterly romantic read.”
