I don’t know what love is anymore.

Well, that’s not entirely true, but I’m going to tell you a little secret: I’ve lost the spark.

You know the kind of spark I’m talking about?

Where butterflies take flight in your stomach from two hands innocently colliding. Or catching your breath when you first meet someone attractive. Yeah, that spark.

Except I haven’t felt that feeling in forever; there is nothing left inside of me.

Normally, this wouldn’t be a problem–but I’m a writer on a serious deadline, and my editor is breathing down my neck for a romantic, Nicholas Sparks type love story. No pressure, right?

That’s how I find myself flying across the country to crash a wedding in the name of research, dress and heels stuffed into my small suitcase.

It should be the easiest book research ever. Drinking some free champagne, basking in the love of two strangers, and tapping into my romantic side. That will be a breeze. I’m a pro. I can handle this.

Until I mistakenly end up in the wrong hotel room, naked as the day I was born, with the sexiest human I have ever met staring me down, wondering what I’m doing taking a shower in his bathroom. I don’t think calling it research will get me out of this pickle.

Review

“What brings you to Key West, Beck?”

I feel like that’s a question I should have asked a while ago but with the whole naked hotel room exposure-which I have yet to tell my friends about-and the sweatshirt burial, we haven’t had a real chance to get to know each other. Not that I’m complaining all too much. What I know about Beck so far is that he’s a gentleman and likes to have a good time, even if that means torching a sweatshirt and sending it on it’s way.

There aren’t many people I know who would stand there, hand over heart, talking about the thread count of a sweatshirt while fake crying.

The corner of my lips pull up just from the image of Beck wiping “tears” from his eyes with the back of his index finger.

“Do you want the truth, or do you want a fabricated lie that will cause you to fall madly in love with me?”

Chuckling, I answer, “Both.”

“Fair enough.” Beck pushes his foot against the sand below us, sending the hammock into a relaxing swing. “Want the truth or the lie first?”

“Hmm, how about I guess which is which.”

“Ah, things are about to get exciting.” He chuckles and rubs his hands together. “Okay, reason number one.” He clears his throat. “I’m attending a wedding this coming weekend, a wedding I wasn’t invited to, but my friend begged me to attend because he wanted to bone his wife without children around. It doesn’t make sense, but hey, I’m a good friend so here I am.”

Errr, that’s eerily familiar. I swallow a little harder than expected. There is no way he’s crashing a wedding like me. That’s only something a desperate author does in order to find signs of love again. “Okay, reason number two.”

“My sister is getting married this weekend and I’m giving her away. Our dad passed away a few years ago from a heart attack, and even though we’d been estranged for two years, she asked if I would be a part of her wedding. So here I am.”

Silently he swings us, my mind whirling with what the truth could be. Both stories were told so effortlessly, so he’s either a really good liar, or some kind of con artist. I should be scared. I should go to my hotel room right now, wishing Beck a good night, but I don’t, because I’m intrigued by this man. Behind the good looks and intelligence, there’s something beneath the surface, something dark that makes understandable the age in his weathered eyes.

Because of that, I go with option number two. It seems the most plausible, because who really crashes weddings? Only crazed women with the tendency to sit in a bush with a notepad and pen and take notes while staring at couples and listening in on their conversations.

Research and all, it comes at a high price, like spikey branches to the tush.

“Hmm, I’m going to go with reason number two.”

He nods and says, “I knew you were going to say that, but you’re pretty little self is wrong. I don’t even have a sister.”

Stunned, I prop myself up as best as I can on the loose woven thread of the hammock and stare him down. “You’re here to crash someone’s wedding?”

He winces. “Uh, yeah, kind of.”

“Unbelievable.” I shake my head in disbelief and lie back down.

“Now before you judge me and give me a lecture about RSVPing-“

“I’m not judging you.” I turn toward Beck, the hammock making the shift slightly difficult. “I’m just a little . . . surprised.”

“I don’t plan on eating any food.” He bites his bottom lip. “That’s a lie. I plan on eating a lot, but hey, I’ll bring the party to the dance floor. If anything, I’m bringing them the gift of dance, so you can’t be mad at me for that.”

“I’m not mad.” I laugh, still surprised. “I’m just trying to comprehend this.” Looking him square in the eyes, I say, “I’m here crashing a wedding as well.”

This causes Beck to sit up, his brawny chest straining the fabric of his shirt. He intently studies me, his eyes flitting back and forth until he finally asks, “You’re serious? You’re really crashing a wedding?”

I press my lips together and nod.

A sharp laugh escapes Beck as he lies down on the hammock and sends our swing into more of a frenzied movement. “I’m just going to assume, given our luck of baby puke, naked encounters-“

“I knew you saw boobs.”

“I didn’t see . . . ah hell, what’s the point? I totally saw your tits and fuck, woman, they’re hot.” I blush . . . horrendously, my face heating up along with every vein in my body. “But like I was saying, with our luck, we’re going to the same wedding.”

Clearing my throat, trying to move past the part where Beck just made my nipples harden and pop out like turkey thermometers, I lamely say, “Yeah, that would be our luck.”

“Let me guess, wedding is on Saturday at The Hemingway House.”

Cue another rush of heat to eclipse my body. “The one and only.”

He nods and lies there silently for a second before saying, “So what you’re telling me is that I have a date for the wedding Saturday night.”

Not expecting him to say that, I laugh out loud and for some reason say, “I’m wearing teal, in case you want to match and take couple pictures. You know, might as well do the whole couple thing up, right?”

This garners, a deep, low, rumble of a laugh from Beck. “Thank God I packed grey pants with a white button-down. There won’t be any kind of clashing in those couple photos.”

“Nope, not even in the slightest.”

Born in New York and raised in Southern California, Meghan has grown into a sassy, peanut butter eating, blonde haired swearing, animal hoarding lady. She is known to bust out and dance if “It’s Raining Men” starts beating through the air and heaven forbid you get a margarita in her, protect your legs because they may be humped.

Once she started commuting for an hour and twenty minutes every day to work for three years, she began to have conversations play in her head, real life, deep male voices and dainty lady coos kind of conversations. Perturbed and confused, she decided to either see a therapist about the hot and steamy voices running through her head or start writing them down. She decided to go with the cheaper option and started writing… enter her first novel, Caught Looking.

Now you can find the spicy, most definitely on the border of lunacy, kind of crazy lady residing in Colorado with the love of her life and her five, furry four legged children, hiking a trail or hiding behind shelves at grocery stores, wondering what kind of lube the nervous stranger will bring home to his wife. Oh and she loves a good boob squeeze!

Review

There’s nothing like an Aurora Rose Reynolds ‘BOOM!’ And, while it takes Harmony Mayson and Harlen MacCabe a bit to get on the same page when it comes to their true feelings for one another, once Harlen spells it all out to Harmony, a ‘hard and fast’ connection is established, and they both realize that the journey they’re on is one hell of an amazing ride with just a few bumps along the way!

I really liked Harmony and how Reynolds characterized her heroine. I think part of the reason why me and many of Until Harmony readers will connect with Harmony is because, on the surface, we’re just as conservative and cautious as she is, but we also yearn, at times, to be a carefree girl, throwing caution to the wind and having the guts to takes risks, and there’s no greater risk than giving one’s heart to someone and praying that person treats it with kindness, respect, and, above all, love. Harmony is clearly driven by her goals and her need to find a man who is a lot like her father because he’s the man who everyone else has to live up to, and while Nico definitely has his concerns when it comes to Harlen, time and time again, Harlen proves that he is exactly the kind of man that Nico’s careful and organizing daughter needs to help her live her life with no regrets and to protect her at all costs.

While Harlen Alistair MacCabe might be a man with demons, how he carries himself and how his number one priority becomes Harmony and her well-being once he goes all in shows readers exactly what they need to understand about this badass alpha male –he’s someone Harmony can trust; he’s someone who may seem a little bossy and a little controlled but that’s only because his love for Harmony makes him extremely protective.

Until Harmony, Harlen ‘never thought about the future – always lived one day at a time, not putting much thought into where I {he} was going.’ But with Harmony by his side, he has purpose…he has a love he refuses to give up. Even when he was playing it safe and acting as Harmony’s friend so he didn’t spook her, readers could tell exactly how Harlen felt about her and the fact that he was all-in, not allowing anyone to stand in his way of claiming Harmony, especially her fears and insecurities.

I really enjoyed Until Harmony. Harmony and Harlen are each other’s perfect match because they complement one another’s personalities and allow them to see the big picture when it comes to what’s important in life and how life is supposed to be lived. I loved how Aurora Rose Reynolds laid out their story line, starting them out as friends, working towards a solid foundation before that BOOM really hits them and redefines their lives in all the best ways.

Reynolds’ Until Him & Until Her series continue to woo readers with their alpha male heroes, their feisty heroines, and the undeniable chemistry that make the main characters more than ready to claim one another and explore how good things can be.

RELEASE BLITZ REVIEW: Law and Beard by Lani Lynn Vale

Title: Law and Beard

Series: The Dixie Warden Rejects MC #8

Author: Lani Lynn Vale

Genre: MC Romance

Release: March 8, 2018

Photographer: Furious Fotog

Model: Joe Adams

Goodreads: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/37257505-law-beard

Winnie thinks she has the perfect life.

Two beautiful, healthy children. A police officer husband. A job that she loves. Oh, and let’s not forget that she’s a nationally ranked marathon runner.

Fast forward six months, and her perfect life has imploded.

Winnie finds herself in a completely new world, and this new world is a brutal bitch.

In this new life of hers, her husband is gone. He realizes, at the worst possible time, that he’s no longer in love with her. He’s in love with her best friend. So he leaves, and doesn’t look back.

Her sixteen-year-old daughter is in trouble with the law, and she’s barely making ends meet thanks to losing the job that was keeping her and her tiny family afloat.

Then, the last thing that could make it all bearable, her running, is ripped out from under her, too. Thanks to a spinal stroke that leaves her unable to walk, let alone run, she’s having to relearn how to do the simplest of tasks—such as putting on her own pants.

She’s at the lowest of lows, and the last thing she wants is a sexy, bearded, motorcycle riding alpha to tell her how to live her life.

But Steel Cross never asks her what she wants.

***

The moment Steel Cross sees Winnie’s daughter steal some shoes for her younger brother, he knows he’s in trouble.

He’s a sucker for misunderstood teens. After all, he was once one himself.

He knows he can’t just walk away, and the moment he sees that troubled teen’s mother, he doesn’t just know it, he feels it. Down to the very bottom of his soul.

With his share of hard knocks, he knows that he shouldn’t step in and make his move on a fellow police officer’s ex. There’s a code, after all, yet he just can’t seem to help himself.

He’s done being the good guy. Sometimes he just wants to be bad.

And Winnie makes him realize that being bad is still kind of good. As long as you’re with the right person.

I never thought someone could top or even equal Silas Mackenzie and his alpha Silver Fox demeanor, but Steel ‘Big Papa’ Cross gives Silas a run for his money…first, because Steel has such a badass biker name and second, because of the way he treats people, especially those he cares about and/or simply feels the need to help because that’s the type of man he is. Steel may think that he’s too old and too jaded for his beautiful neighbor, Winnie Holyfield, but he’s just the kind of guy she needs to help put her broken heart and body back together and show her exactly what the ‘right’ man can bring to her life and the lives of her children.

Because Big Papa is the President of the Dixie Warden Rejects and the Chief of Police in Mooresville, Alabama, readers have spent a lot of time getting to know him in the previous 7 books in the series, and even though he’s been a secondary character in all of those books, through the main characters’ interactions with BP and his actions/decisions when it comes to the motorcycle club and his officers on the force, it’s easy to acquire a mostly clear picture of who Steel is, what/who he values, and what he’s willing to do for those he considers his family.

Winnie Holyfield doesn’t want to be destroyed by another man; in fact, she’s still dealing with the battle scars from her ex-husband, so she tries to fight her pull to Steel and the lust she has for her hot as hell neighbor, even though it seems like an inevitability on both sides due to Steel’s need to understand his single mom neighbor and the fact that Winnie has gotten more than underneath his skin. It’s clear that neither of them can walk away from each other once they give into their feelings, but they might not have a choice when the maelstrom circling both of their lives looks to destroy everything Steel and Winnie are building, perhaps doing irrevocably harm to them and to those who love and depend on them.

Law & Beard is a story full of drama, family issues, a bit of suspense and a whole lot of laughter, steam, and sweet. I ADORE the kind of man that Steel is and the fact that Winnie never gave up, even when her life imploded, says a lot about the type of woman she is and what she wants her children to understand about life, love, and commitment. Lani Lynn Vale keeps introducing readers to incredible alpha males and the strong women who stand by their side, regardless of the shitstorm that tries to take over their lives and believe me, there have but a shitload of storms weathered by these bikers and their old ladies!

Excerpt

I’d never, not once, had the pleasure of giving a blow job.

Yet, I wanted to give one…to Steel.

Jesus Christ, did I want to give him one.

The man turned me on in ways that I had no clue I could be turned on by, yet here I was, wondering what it would feel like to give the man a blow job.

My curiosity got the better of me as I googled more tips-which they’d said they’d done as a comparison-and then I got lost in the World Wide Web.

My first stop had been Cosmopolitan!

My second had been some random Joe-Blow (literally, that was the name of the website) blog that gave the men’s top ten best blow job tips-according to men.

1. Maintain eye contact.

2. Tie your hair back, it shows your dedication.

3. Allow him to put his hand in your hair and control the movements.

That, I could do! In fact, the idea of Steel putting his hands in my hair and controlling all of the movement was downright arousing.

4. Use your hand as well as your mouth. Twist it side to side lightly as you pump and suck him.

Okay, pump, suck, and twist. Check!

5. Don’t use your teeth. Ever.

I shivered at the thought. That would suck, accidentally biting Steel’s dick. He’d probably never let me near him again and kick me straight the hell out of his bed. Though, I had to get in his bed first…

6. Drop down so he’s standing and you’re kneeling. There’s nothing more arousing than watching a woman get on her knees.

That thought made me shiver. Would Steel like me on my knees?

I sure the hell hoped so. I’d love to get on my knees for him.

Then again, I was doing good with my rehab…he still might have to help me back up.

I winced. Maybe I should just get on the bed between his splayed thighs…yes, that was how I’d do it.

7. Suck his balls.

Suck his balls? How the hell did I put those in my mouth? There wasn’t enough room!

8. Go slow. It’s not a race.

9. Swallow.

Well, that was self-explanatory. But I didn’t know if I could swallow. I’d try, but what if I gagged?

10. We like it when you gag.

Did they? What if I accidentally threw up? That would completely ruin the mood.

“What are you doing?”

I squeaked and jumped as Steel came out of the bathroom.

EXCERPT REVEAL: TWO WEDDING CRASHERS by Meghan Quinn

I don’t know what love is anymore.

Well, that’s not entirely true, but I’m going to tell you a little secret: I’ve lost the spark.

You know the kind of spark I’m talking about?

Where butterflies take flight in your stomach from two hands innocently colliding. Or catching your breath when you first meet someone attractive. Yeah, that spark.

 Excerpt

Crystal-blue ocean shines below me, and if I wasn’t so scared of Zoey and her repercussions for being late, I would take the time to appreciate Mother Nature. Instead I hurry into my room, flop my suitcase on my bed, unzip it, and grab my toiletries.

Not taking a second longer, I strip down, leaving my gross airplane clothes on the floor, and practically skip to the shower where I stop mid stride.

In the shower stall is a black razor, with accompanying shaving cream. That’s odd. Is that courtesy of the hotel? This place is fancy, but not that fancy. Spinning on my heel, I turn toward the sink behind me and spot a white and green toothbrush, tube of toothpaste, and men’s cologne. Shit, turning toward the room, my eyes frantically roam the space, spotting a black suitcase in the corner.

Shit, shit, shit.

Naked, I cover my breasts with my arm and open the closet door only to come face to face with a few hung-up shirts.

Yup . . . I’m in someone else’s fucking room.

And whoever this room belongs to is the neatest person ever because who honestly lines up there toothbrush and toothpaste tube perfectly on the counter?

Reaching for the phone, I call down to the front desk.

“Mr. Wilder, how can we assist you?” Oh yeah, totally not in the correct room.

“Uh, yeah, hi, this is Rylee Ryan. I just checked in. I was given the key to room 625 and it seems to be occupied.”

“Oh dear, let me check.” There is a pause on the phone and then the lady comes on the line again. “I’m terribly sorry, Miss. Ryan. We have you in room 626. Would you like to come down here and grab a new key?”

Is she kidding? The trek it took to get over here ate up enough of my time. I can’t possibly take a shower if I have to run back to the lobby, grab a key, and run all the way back here.

“Would you mind bringing it to room 625? I have dinner plans and have to get changed.”

“Oh, of course. I’ll send someone up with a key right away.”

“Thank you.”

I hop around naked, eyeing my pukey clothes on the floor and the shower in the other room. Twisting my lip to the side, I try to decide what to do. I can be super quick, like really fucking quick. I just need to scrub the puke and throw on a dress, simple. Two minutes tops. The water doesn’t even have to be warm. I’ll write a polite note to Mr. Wilder—whoever that is—leave him five dollars as a kind gesture and quietly leave. No problem with that. Right?

Right.

Turning on the shower, I hop in before the water can warm up and hiss from the frosty temperature. I douse soap all over my hands and scrub my neck and body vigorously first, which normally I would wash my hair first but . . . puke. Once I’m satisfied with the amount of scrubbing, I wash my hair, condition it in a minute, do one more soap scrubbing all over my body before rinsing and turning the shower off. Two minutes.

Just in case Mr. Wilder is sitting outside the bathroom, I peek my head out the door, towel wrapped around my body, and call out, “Hello?”

When there is no response, I check that the coast is clear then strut to my suitcase and find a simple black sundress. Not bothering to look for underwear or a bra—I really don’t need one with my perky B-cups—I lay out my dress and dry off.

Hopefully Mr. Wilder doesn’t mind me using one of his towels or his room for that matter. He’s probably some old dude away on his golfing vacation. I hope I don’t give him a heart attack.

I drape my towel over the bed and run my hands through my naturally wavy, black hair. This will have to do. Picking up my towel one more time, I scrunch my hair, trying to soak up all the water just as the hotel door swings open, light blaring through, a tall, dark silhouette shadowed in the doorframe.

I still, frozen from the tips of my toes to the hand scrunching a towel in my hair.

Toned calves and legs are covered by black board shorts, slick to his thighs, a bulge prominent. Narrow waist where his board shorts ride low on his hips, a black shirt dancing across his broad chest, cinching sleeves cuffed over his biceps, and a V-neck providing a glimpse of how far his tan extends. Head cast down, eyes transfixed on his phone in front of him, he doesn’t notice the naked girl standing in the middle of his hotel room. He stuffs his keycard in his back pocket and looks up, startled.

I scream.

He grumbles something unintelligible as I point out the obvious. “Ahhh, my boobs are naked!” It might be a little concerning that I consider my boobs to be the only things naked at this point.

As quickly as I can, I cover my body, towel making a poor attempt to hide my girly bits.

The man turns away, covering his eyes with his arm while muttering, “Oh shit.”

“What the hell do you think you’re doing?” I ask, struggling with my towel. I know damn well the man in front of me must be Mr. Wilder, and this is in fact his room, and I’m the one intruding, but I still feel the need to place the blame on him for walking in on me naked.

“Grabbing my sunglasses,” he says, his voice terrified but also deep and rumbly. “What the hell are you doing here?”

Still trying to cover myself, I scramble to grab my dress and back up to the bathroom. “Washing my neck,” I answer, nervously, boobs swaying with my erratic movements.

Eyes still covered, he keeps his back toward me but straightens up. “Washing your neck? Is that code for some kind of weird Key West thing?”

I back into the bathroom and make quick attempt of putting my dress over my head and righting it so everything is covered up. Hair still damp as well as my body, I step out into the room and clear my throat, dress sticking to my damp skin. “No, it’s not code for anything. I really had to wash my neck.”

“And you chose my room to do that in, because . . .”

Bending down, I shove my dirty clothes in my bag and zip up, giving Mr. Wilder the heads-up that I’m dressed. At least he’s a gentleman . . .

When he turns around, he eyes me up and down, his gaze curious and heated when he sees just how hard my nipples are from the cold shower . . . and the unexpected peep show.

“I didn’t choose your room to take a shower in.” I move my suitcase to the floor and pull up the handle. “The hotel gave me the key to this room by mistake, and since I had puke on my neck from the airplane—long story—I decided to take a quick shower while I waited for my room. I apologize for taking up your space, but I think we’re skipping an important detail here.” I cock my hand on my hip. “You saw me naked.”

“No, I didn’t,” he retorts rather quickly, despite the slow grin that spreads across his face.

I’m calling bullshit. “You totally saw my boobs.”

“I really didn’t. Your scream scared the shit out of me. I didn’t have enough time to see anything before you covered up.”

Eyeing him suspiciously, I ask, “You promise you didn’t see anything?”

“Promise.”

Hmm. “Okay, because being hotel neighbors and all, that would be extremely awkward if you saw me naked.”

“Good thing I didn’t then.” He rocks back on his heels, hands in his pockets, unsure of what to do. Finally he reaches out to the desk next to him and holds up his black Ray Bans. “Just needed my sunglasses.”

REVIEW: MARRIAGE OF INCONVENIENCE by Penny Reid

Marriage of Inconvenience, an all new romantic comedy standalone in the USA Today bestselling, Knitting in the City Series by Penny Reid, is LIVE!

MOI copy.jpg

There are three things you need to know about Kat Tanner (aka Kathleen Tyson. . . and yes, she is *that* Kathleen Tyson): 1) She’s determined to make good decisions, 2) She must get married ASAP, and 3) She knows how to knit.

Being a billionaire heiress isn’t all it’s cracked up to be. In fact, it sucks. Determined to live a quiet life, Kat Tanner changed her identity years ago and eschewed her family’s legacy. But now, Kat’s silver spoon past has finally caught up with her, and so have her youthful mistakes. To avoid imminent disaster, she must marry immediately; it is essential that the person she chooses have no romantic feelings for her whatsoever and be completely trustworthy.

Fortunately, she knows exactly who to ask. Dan O’Malley checks all the boxes: single, romantically indifferent to her, completely trustworthy. Sure, she might have a wee little crush on Dan the Security Man, but with clear rules, expectations, and a legally binding contract, Kat is certain she can make it through this debacle with her sanity—and heart—all in one piece.

Except, what happens when Dan O’Malley isn’t as indifferent—or as trustworthy—as she thought?

Review

It’s always the quiet ones who blow your mind once you take the time to get to know that person and truly understand everything that makes that person who she is…all of the best and worst parts of her…all of her insecurities…her dreams…her worries…her guilt and most of all, her backstory that sheds more than enough light on who/what has shaped her personality and made it difficult for her to accept herself and all of her neurotic impulses and overthinking tendencies.

Kat has always been the shy and reserved woman in her circle of knitting ladies, allowing her friends’ dominant personalities to reign, simply enjoying the comfort and feel of family that she reveled in each and every Tuesday night and all the other times they got together to celebrate one of their own. And while I completely understood her bystander interactions because I am who introvert twin, I was desperate to find out more about Kat because she intrigued me and because she caught Dan the Security Man’s eye from the very beginning and I’ve had quite the crush on Dan’s foul mouth and endearing personality. Because I wanted to figure out everything I could about Kat, every scene that she was present in, in the other books in Penelope Reid’s Knitting in the City series, Kat became my focus; I wanted to get a handle on who she was and understand what her quietness as well as what seemed to be the moments she got lost in her head illustrated about her. And while I didn’t learn too much about Kat, I knew that if I just held on until Penny Reid was ready to tell Kat’s story that I would get my answers so that I could fully appreciate everything that Kat has been through and all of the awesomeness that makes her who she is, even if her self-perception is skewed.

I don’t think I’ve read a more dynamic and multifaceted heroine than Kathleen Caravel-Tyson, partly because each one of her monikers sheds light on certain parts of her personality and background and partly because there are so many layers to who she is…that I was still discovering things about her up until the very end of her and Dan’s story. Kat Tanner, Kit-Kat, Mrs. O’Malley, sole heiress to the single largest privately held pharmaceutical fortune, executive assistant at an Architecture firm…all of these names illuminate different parts of her personality, helping readers to acquire a well-rounded view of all that Kat is as well as what she is not, even though she has a difficult time believing it.

I’ve always appreciated the kind of man that Dan O’Malley is. He’s a loyal friend, a fantastic bodyguard and the perfect second-in-command to Quinn Sullivan. And I truly believe that his less than stellar choices when he was a teen actually makes him a much more understanding and badass adult, and boy does he prove me right in Marriage of Inconvenience. Because I’m an obsessed fan of this series, I’ve witnessed every exchange between Kat and Dan, and I have been impatiently waiting for Reid to put me inside Kat and Dan’s psyche so I can hear what they’re thinking about one another and just how obsessive they’ve become about each other while they seem oblivious to the fact that their feelings are more than reciprocated. And, I can honestly say that getting both of their perspectives and watching them misunderstand one another, assume things about each other, and ultimately accept every part of one another was frustrating, entertaining, and downright swoon worthy.

Marriage of Inconvenience is one heck of a smart romance. Like always, Penny Reid takes a stereotypical plot line – this time a fake marriage – and makes it her own with her quirky, lovable characters and a mountain of truths beneath all the white lies. Kat and Dan couldn’t be any more perfect for one another, but Kat needs to believe that on her own, which won’t happen until she works through her issues and accepts her past and herself and sees herself like everyone who loves her does, and Dan is for sure included in that group.

As sad as I am for Kat and Dan’s story to be the last in the series, I’ve adored each knitter’s book and the way Penny Reid brings her heroine’s soulmate into her life. Part of the reason why so many romance readers adore this series is because they can relate to Reid’s female leads’ personalities and revel in the sweet and sexy ways Reid’s main characters get together and make their lives so much fuller because they found the perfect person for all of their idiosyncrasies. I can honestly say that I love every single one of the heroes and heroines in the Knitting in the City series, and their stories will definitely be ones that I reread because they’re just that amazing!

Review

Second Chance Romances is one of my absolute favorite tropes; I find myself more connected to the story and the main characters when they share a rich history together, spend a significant amount of time apart, and then reconnect and realize that their feelings for one another never truly dissipated; they were just dormant and needed to be brought back to life with the reappearance of their first love…their other off…their first EVERYTHING.

I remember mention of Catherine Barrington in King of Code, and the fact that she somehow lost the love of her life but kept moving forward because she had no other choice, intrigued me as a reader who likes to understand everything about a story and the characters involved, and now with the release of her and Chris’ story, I was able to get to the ‘heart’ of the matter and truly comprehend what happened all those years ago and why their differences tore them apart.

I adore titles that have symbolic meanings…I guess it’s the English teacher in me, so the fact that CD Reiss titled Catherine and Chris’ story White Knight is hugely significant and speaks to someone being saved and someone doing the saving, but it’s most definitely not a clear cut answer as to who is doing what when it comes to Catherine and Chris’ past relationship and the current situation they find themselves in 13 years after Chris left with a promise to stay in touch.

If there’s one person who deserves her happily ever after, it’s Catherine Barrington because the rich girl Chris used to love is no longer and in her place is a woman who’s been put through the ringer and forced to face a much different reality than she grew up with, and it’s especially difficult because the boy now man she wanted by her side forever left and never came back.

Because Reiss transitions back and forth between Catherine and Chris’ relationship when they were teenagers, falling in love for the first time to what they’re rebuilding as adults, readers are privy to the depth of their love for one another along with the reasons it was not meant to be all those years ago, and while it’s blatantly clear that the love they had for each other is still there, there is a lot of pain and heartache to traverse through, and the open wounds that have never really healed go a bit deeper, making it a difficult road to find their way back to one another with their heart and soul still intact and still willing to accept the second chance they have at their first love.

White Knight is one heck of a swoonworthy romance and as Catherine and Chris reconnect and work through their shared past as well as the years they spent apart, they find themselves just as emotionally invested as before, and the hope is that now that they are older and wiser and free to do as they please, they can find a way to understand what truly matters in life even with many other factors vying for their attention and time because most couples who separate find it almost impossible to procure a second chance and now that Chris has returned to his hometown and wants to try again with Catherine, they’re going to have to work diligently to focus on one another, taking advantage of the gift that they’ve been given and not worrying about anyone or anything else.

By witnessing how much they truly loved one another when they were teens, readers can’t help but hope that Catherine and Chris get a second chance to be together, making up for what happened in their past when Chris left and healing in ways that can only be achieved by the two of them working things out, becoming even more invested in recapturing what they lost, and this time, making each other the priority because it’s clear just how essential they are to one another’s happiness and sanity.

4.5 Poison Apples

Excerpt

I crossed the train tracks, looking both ways as if the freight ran on a thoroughfare. It was a few steps to the rows of mobile homes that defined that side of Barrington.

The playground was in a little clearing just west of the center of the trailers. My fingertips were cold, but the rest of my body thrummed and pulsed so hard that I made my own heat. I told myself I didn’t know what to expect from this meeting, but if I didn’t know what to expect, I knew what to hope, and they were pretty much the same thing.

“Catherine!” Chris wasn’t loud, but the excitement in his voice made him sound as if he were shouting.

“Chris?” I spun around, looking for him in the darkness.

And on a three-quarter turn, he crashed into me, all lips and hands, digging his fingertips into the muscles of my back as he pulled me close. I tasted the minty toothpaste in his mouth and thought he brushed his teeth for me. He kissed me as if he would never kiss me again. He kissed me as if this was the last kiss he would ever have in his life. As if he wanted to eat me alive. I’d given over my freedom and my choice to this thing with him, to this moment, to this stupid set of choices that would ruin me forever. As surely as the sun would rise, I was the designer of my own destruction.

I wanted to be destroyed by that kiss.

When Chris took my hand, I imagined I could feel the blood pulsing through the veins, the cells in his skin. I imagined that when my nerve endings vibrated at his touch, they connected to his somehow.

Everything felt new. I was discovering that my body had routes between one place and another that I never knew existed. I never knew that when a man touched my hand or kissed my nipples, I could feel it between my legs.

There was a click behind the tree line, and he stopped kissing me with a jerk. We froze long enough for him to smile.

About the Author

CD Reiss is a New York Times bestseller. She still has to chop wood and carry water, which was buried in the fine print. Her lawyer is working it out with God but in the meantime, if you call and she doesn’t pick up she’s at the well hauling buckets.

Born in New York City, she moved to Hollywood, California to get her master’s degree in screenwriting from USC. In case you want to know, that went nowhere but it did give her a big enough ego to write novels.

She’s frequently referred to as the Shakespeare of Smut which is flattering but hasn’t ever gotten her out of chopping that cord of wood.

If you meet her in person, you should call her Christine.
