EXCERPT REVEAL: The Other Brother by Meghan Quinn

I got the call. The dreaded call every child fears. My dad wasn’t well, and the man who had always been my everything needed me.

There was only one thing to do; pack up and head back to my hometown. I had finally made my dream life in the city with the great job and loving boyfriend. But was there really a choice not to go?

I found a wonderful job, a quaint house to rent, my boyfriend was working on joining me in Binghamton, and my favorite pizza place was only miles away. Life was good.

Until I met my neighbor.

It’s been three years since I’d seen Aaron Walters, and my God is he all kinds of sexy gorgeous. Figures. He was supposed to be my forever, the man I grew old with, but he had different plans. How can a man who ripped my heart apart still trip me up? How can he make me still want him now more than ever?

I’m tempted, I’m drawn toward him, I’m completely and utterly unaware that I’m dating his biological brother.

Now two men own my heart. The question is, which brother will I choose?

Excerpt

Right on time, I’m impressed.

She doesn’t get out of her car right away, so I give her a second but then realize maybe she’s not exiting the vehicle because I have the key to the house and she has nowhere to go.

Wanting to make a good impression and seem approachable since I’m the property manager, I run my hand through my hair and adjust my jeans. I’m not wearing any fancy shit, but at least I don’t have holes in or paint stains on my clothes. I hop off my front porch and make my way toward her car, slowly, not wanting to scare her.

There is muffling coming from her car, voices I can’t quite hear, but I get the idea she’s finishing up a conversation, so I slow my pace drastically. That’s when I see her tilt her head down and look at me. From the reflection of the light off her windows, I can’t make out her features. I can only see a silhouette.

I lift a friendly hand in her direction to let her know I come in peace and make my way to her driveway. There is no wave back, but I do hear the telltale sound of her opening her car door. She steps out and when I round the vehicle, I catch the sun off her driver’s side window, temporarily blinding me.

Blinking my eyes a few times to calm my retinas, I bring her into focus.

“Aaron . . .”

Every hair on my body sticks straight up and my body goes still from that voice, that unmistakably sultry voice.

When she finally comes into view, I am met with a pair of hazel eyes I haven’t been able to get out of my head since the day she left town for bigger and better things.

“Amelia.” I clear my throat and take a step forward. “Wow, I uh . . .” Tongue-tied, that’s exactly what I am right now. “Didn’t expect to see you get out of that car.” I laugh nervously while I pull on the back of my neck, trying to comprehend what’s going on. I point with my thumb toward the house and ask, “You’re the new tenant?”

She nods and looks me over, taking her time with her perusal, her eyes burning a hole right through my clothes like they used to. When her eyes meet mine again, she asks, “You’re the property manager?”

I nod and swallow hard. “And neighbor.”

She presses her lips together, thinning them out. “What are the chances?” She laughs nervously.

“Yeah, especially since I thought your life was in the city.” I didn’t mean for that to come out rude, but it did. Gentling my voice, I ask, “What brings you back home?”

Staring at the ground, clutching her purse to her side, she says, “My dad. He’s, uh, not doing well.” Duh, Mrs. Ferguson mentioned something like that. I’m so damn overwhelmed and shocked right now though, that entire conversation I had with Mrs. Ferguson is not registering in my mind.

“Oh no.” My brow pinches together in concern. “What happened?”

She waves me off. “Nothing you need to worry about.” And just like that she shuts me down. Honestly, I’m surprised she said that much to me after how we ended things between us.

Yes, there was an us, a perfectly beautiful, love-filled us. Amelia Santos was the best thing to ever happen to me, and yet, she was also the worst. During a time where my heart broke from every uncaring glance from my mom, Amelia resurrected me from the ashes I would have otherwise drowned in. She was my rock, the one solid feature in my life.

She was also my downfall.

She was going places, and I wasn’t. She had opportunity, and I had none. She wanted me to move with her, and I couldn’t, but no way in hell would I hold her back. I barely made it out of my mom’s house. There were many days when I tried hard to earn a buck so I could find a place to live other than the homeless shelter where I spent many lonely nights. Amelia deserved better than that, so I pushed her away to achieve her dreams. Little did I know, breaking up with her would send me in the biggest downward spiral of my life. The only reason I’m the man I am today is because after hitting rock bottom, I knew things needed to change, and it was up to me to make something of myself. So I worked my ass off. And now at thirty, I can say proudly that I’m a co-owner of an up-and-coming construction company as well as the proud owner of a house in the heart of Hillcrest, a beautiful two-story house. I’m doing well for myself . . . at least that’s what I thought until Amelia stepped out of her car.

Now I’m questioning every little thing about my life leading to this point.

Born in New York and raised in Southern California, Meghan has grown into a sassy, peanut butter eating, blonde haired swearing, animal hoarding lady. She is known to bust out and dance if “It’s Raining Men” starts beating through the air and heaven forbid you get a margarita in her, protect your legs because they may be humped.

Once she started commuting for an hour and twenty minutes every day to work for three years, she began to have conversations play in her head, real life, deep male voices and dainty lady coos kind of conversations. Perturbed and confused, she decided to either see a therapist about the hot and steamy voices running through her head or start writing them down. She decided to go with the cheaper option and started writing… enter her first novel, Caught Looking.

Now you can find the spicy, most definitely on the border of lunacy, kind of crazy lady residing in Colorado with the love of her life and her five, furry four legged children, hiking a trail or hiding behind shelves at grocery stores, wondering what kind of lube the nervous stranger will bring home to his wife. Oh and she loves a good boob squeeze!

Acquisition (noun)

1: the act or action of acquiring; specifically:the obtaining of controlling interest in a company — compare merger, takeover. 2: a thing gained or acquired.

Acquisitions and takeovers are a common practice in today’s business world because of the nature of the times as well as the competitiveness that runs rampant in a world where only the strong survive. Fighting dirty and using alternative methods of persuasion will always be the norm because rising to the top is the ultimate goal and getting there will always be achieved by any means necessary.

Lauren Bradley is an independent woman but she’s in a man’s world – one that always puts her under the microscope, waiting to pounce on her for the smallest of mistakes and unfortunately for her, the one time she takes something for herself ends up coming back to bite her in the ass, both figuratively and literally.

Antonio Forte is quite the business man – one whose interest in Lauren’s company is more than professional, and as the struggle for control of not only her business but also of her body and maybe even her heart, these enemies turned lovers are going to heat up the boardroom just as much as they do the bedroom.

Lauren and Antonio’s story is as dramatic as it is sexy and because neither is willing to lose, their tenacious attitudes lead them on one hell of volatile and provocative journey – one that will either end in a nasty takeover or one heck of an amazing merger, but readers will have to wait to find out where these two savvy business people end up when the second book in the duet releases.

He isn’t supposed to find someone that is willing to put up with his ex-wife’s crazy antics, but he has.

iScream Book Blog –

It’s so damn #HOT you’ll enjoy every page and come back for more.”

Britt Red Hatter Book Blog –

“I don’t think there are enough words in the English language to express how insanely incredible Go To Hail is.”

Smashly Bookalicious Reviewing Chicks –

“For all those girls who have dealt with a crazy ex and their antics, this book is for you.”

“The power to influence or direct people’s behavior or the course of events.”

That’s what it means to be in control: to be able to make decisions for yourself and to help guide those people who mean the most to you.

For quite some time now, Travis hasn’t had much control over his life. His sadistic bitch of an ex-wife, Allegra, has been the one calling the shots for him, his kids, and the woman he loves for quite some time now, which has upended all of their lives, forcing Travis to be his ex’s puppet, walking the line she has made for him, in order to spend time with his daughter.

And, while I get why Travis didn’t want to do anything that would rile Allegra up, some of his actions confused and frustrated the ever loving hell out of me. I get it…I do…he was in a no win situation and his ex comes from money so she definitely seems to have more power on her side, but how Travis allowed her to dictate almost every aspect of his life knowing deep down that her toxic nature would never change regardless of how much he bent to her will is beyond my comprehension. Travis’ love for his daughter runs deep, but so does his love for Hannah, her daughter, Reggie, and his baby boy, which means that something has to give…I just fear it’s going to be either his sanity or his fragile relationship with Hannah.

I can’t begin to comprehend how Hannah has remained so strong and resilient with the clusterfuck that has been brought into her life due to other people’s issues and actions. It’s easy for readers to see how much Hannah’s suffering because Lani Lynn Vale provides us with Hannah’s perspective, so we get her inner torment and heartbreak, but most people around her can’t begin to truly understand the devastating position she’s in and what it costs her each day to be around Travis but not truly in his life the way they both so desperately want and even need to be.

I can honestly say that Allegra is probably in my top ten of most hated antagonists…Vale characterized her character perfectly and provided readers with an outlet for our anger and frustration, so it wouldn’t be directed at the man who was just trying to protect and love the people who mean the most to him despite his daughter’s attitude and the never ending drama with his ex.

Travis and Hannah’s story will definitely rile up readers, partly due to the outside forces constantly adding stress and a constant state of disconnect to an already tenuous relationship and partly because of how much damage occurs due to one witch of an ex. And while I did have my issues with Travis, especially at the beginning of the book, he proves the kind of man he truly is time and time again, even when he knows his actions could potentially force his whole world to implode.

Go to Hail is the perfect name for Travis and Hannah’s story because that’s exactly what both of them need to say to the toxic people in their lives but that’s easier said than done when they’re dealing with a woman hellbent on making their lives a living hell, even when she’s the one who continues to mess up.

Review

In Sawyer Bennett’s The Wicked Horse Vegas series, sexual exploration and erotic escapades are exactly what this ‘sinful playground’ offers, so it makes sense that this fearsome threesome who are business partners as well as best friends would choose Dane’s ‘wicked world’ to learn and experience all that one another has to offer in ways that they never anticipated wanting or even needing, but as their ‘fun’ begins to lead to more than friendly feelings, jealousy enters the dynamics of this longtime trio’s personal and professional relationships, threatening to destroy not only a 17 year friendship but potentially a business that all three of them built together.

Sawyer Bennett definitely made the right call as a writer by allowing Dane, Avril, and Andrew to all have a voice in Wicked Envy. A menage story line always amps up my emotions and I usually find my stomach in knots because I always feel like I’m not getting the full story…that by not getting the multiple perspectives that I need to truly understand how they make an atypical relationship work, I’m constantly waiting for one of them to give up or feel neglected. But because Bennett allows all three main characters to move the story line forward, offering necessary insights about where each one of them stands and what each one of them wants from the other two, I didn’t feel nearly as conflicted or frustrated; every viewpoint is illustrated and each character’s backstory is also provided so that allows readers another layer of knowledge about the heroine and her two heroes that they would not have gotten if only one or two of the characters gave the play-by-play of what’s happening between them and why they’re willing to risk a 17 year friendship by allowing emotions into what was supposed to be an objective situation. But if there’s one thing I’ve learned in my years of reading romance stories, it’s that sex can never be emotionless, especially when it occurs with individuals who are extremely important to each other’s lives.

Wicked Envy is just as sexy and sultry as every other story in the Wicked Horse series, whether it be set at the original or the Vegas location, but because the main relationship dynamics include three people instead of two, there is more to contend with when it comes to moving the plot line forward and let me tell you, Sawyer Bennett definitely doesn’t make things easy on Dane, Avril, and Andrew and she sure as hell makes readers second guess who is going to end up with whom and what mixing business with a whole lot of pleasure will end up costing these three, if anything.

Sawyer Bennett is one hell of a storyteller who knows exactly how to blend eroticism with heart. Yes, there is a huge amount of sex and foreplay in her ‘Wicked’ stories, but I almost feel like it’s a necessary requirement of the series and because it’s one of the dominant ways that the main characters learn more about themselves in terms of their desires, exploring that environment is crucial not only for each character to develop but also to allow for a connection that may start off more physical than anything else, but by the time the story ends, it becomes only one part of what makes the main characters truly fit together.

REVIEW BLITZ: CUFFED by K. Bromberg

From the New York Times bestselling author, K. Bromberg, comes a new series about three brothers, the job that calls them, and the women who challenge them.

“I hate you. I never want to see you again.”

Grant Malone is not the reason I moved back to Sunnyville—at least that’s what I tell myself. Yet, those parting words I said to him back in third grade, ring in my ears every time a townsperson brings up one of the Malone boys. I thought time had healed my wounds. I was wrong. Nothing could have prepared me for how I felt when I finally saw him again.

Twenty years does a lot to turn a boy into a man. One who hits all my buttons—sexy, funny, attractive, and a police officer. But Grant is off limits because he knows too much about my past.

But I’m drawn to him. That damn uniform of his doesn’t hurt either. It’ll be my downfall. I know it.
What’s one night of sex going to hurt . . . right?
***

 I’ve always loved Emmy Reeves.

That’s why I’m shocked to see her all these years later. The shy girl I once knew is all grown up.

Adventurous and full of life, she owns my heart now, just as much as she did back then. Convincing her of that is a whole different story.

I’ll give her the one night she asks for—like that’s a hardship—but when it comes to letting her walk away after, she has another thing coming. There’s no way in hell I’m letting her go this time without a fight.

Review

I’ve always loved a man in uniform, and when that man is the complete package that Officer Grant Malone is, it’s easy to see why Emerson Reeves has no choice but to give into her reignited feelings for him despite her best effort not to do so.

Regardless of Emmy’s attraction, though, she’s harboring deep seated hatred for Grant…20 years worth of bitter feelings and overwhelming heartache…and while Emmy’s issues with him are based on the actions of an 8 year old boy, what Emmy endured as a child was so devastating and irreparable that it was just easier for her to hold onto her anger and pain due to Grant’s mistreatment instead of face the real wreckage of her past and how it undoubtedly shaped her present.

If I had to use one adjective that clearly described who Grant is throughout the entire Cuffed story line, it would be tenacious, and while that is one of the key traits that helps him to be one hell of a good cop, it also comes in handy when he’s dealing with a woman who attempts to allude his pursuit and makes a run for it as he’s trying to tear down her walls and get her to see them as something more than just ‘friends with benefits.’

It may be difficult for some readers to connect with Emmy; she’s prickly and guarded and she doesn’t offer too much insight into who she is until further on in the story, but that’s because she doesn’t want to deal with the past despite the fact that it has such a tight hold on every aspect of who she is and what she does. Emmy’s perseverance is what will stand out about her character and while it does take a bit to truly understand why Emmy does what she does when it comes to her feelings for Grant and how she handles his ‘full-court press’ when it comes to claiming her as his, it’s also clear that there’s never been anyone in her life that affects her like Grant does and sooner or later, she’s going to realize exactly what he’s offering and then revel in all of his alpha male goodness!

“Head up. Wings out.”

That’s the motto that has guided her life since the darkness took over and shattered Every. Single. Part of her, and while she waivers, at times, when it comes to putting that maxim into consistent practice, I can’t imagine who she would be without the calmness and hope she found in that phrase because so many people who have had to endure what she went through don’t make it out of the shadows and into the light of day.

I love it when secondary characters play a pivotal role in the storyline, whether it be pointing things out to the hero or heroine or just being there for them in whatever needed capacity. And let me tell you, Desi, Emmy’s best friend, and Grant’s brothers, Grady and Grayson, are the perfect complement to Grant and Emmy because they know who the main characters are and what makes them who they are and with that knowledge, they help to move things along when Grant and Emmy seem stuck, whether it be in thoughts of the past or the uncertainty of the present.

Cuffed takes readers on one hell of an emotional journey, and I, for one, felt strung out as I travelled further into the storyline and saw firsthand everything that the hero and heroine must fighting against; sometimes, I truly didn’t know how Grant was going to get through to Emmy in a way that would give them what they both wanted and desperately needed. But K. Bromberg always has a way of putting a heart’s fractured pieces back together, and while it might take longer than anyone wants, it’s done in a way that attemps to prevent any further splintering…only offering forgiveness and healing at the appropriate times and in the appropriate ways.

The Malone brothers are quite the trio and I love that each one’s story is getting told because they all may be ‘everyday heroes,’ but they are sure some of the hottest and fiercest ones around;)

Review

It’s fitting that the last book in J.B. Salsbury’s Fighting Series is titled The Final Fight because that moniker encompasses what each and every hero and heroine in the series has had to do in order to ensure that when the final metaphorical bell rang, they were the ones left standing…the ones who never gave up despite their underdog status or the chances of them winning being a long shot…the ones who never backed down, always pushing themselves to keep moving forward regardless of the obstacles they face.

All of Salsbury’s main characters never allowed their fighting spirit to lay dormant and let me tell you, the author definitely placed a significant amount of roadblocks in front of them, allowing them to get so caught up in the chaos and devastation that it had the ability to overpower and consume them, but the fight or die attitude seems to have been harnessed inside of each one of Salsbury’s fighters and while some fought inside a ring, for the most part, life’s battle was far more complex and had farther reaching claws that continually threatened to pull them under to the point where the characters had to decide just how long they could hold on when everything felt impossible.

The hero and heroine in The Final Fight are just as tough and tenacious as the previous couples in the series. Both Braeden and AJ have very clear goals for themselves – ones that don’t allow for any disruptions because their chosen paths are meticulously laid out, but attraction and lust don’t follow a certain trail; in fact, they sneak up on people and knock them on their asses, which is exactly what happens when our Marine Corps alpha male heads to Vegas on leave to catch up with his older brother, Blake, and gets knocked sideways by a sweet, sexy, and driven heroine hellbent on proving to herself and everyone else that she has what it takes to headline a Las Vegas show.

Despite Braeden and AJ’s adamancy about a ‘no-strings’ relationship, they find themselves both yearning for more, but when life’s hazards infiltrate their lives, their fighting spirit is put to the test, and it’s difficult to know if they’ll both be left standing when everything works itself out or if one or the other will tap out because the risks are just too great to overcome.

I’ve read every one of J.B. Salsbury’s Fighting series’ books and each and every time I enter her Las Vegas world and she introduces me to her heroes and heroines, I can’t help but be swept away by her emotional prose and her dynamic characters because she’s a fabulous storyteller – one who allows her readers to truly experience EVERY ASPECT of her storyline along with the complexity of her characters and the trials they face. And as the characters adjust and fight to be who they want to be and be where they need to be, readers witness the true fight of these characters and it’s because of the way the author crafts each scene paying close attention to details that we feel like we are a part of her Las Vegas crew, and it’s a place I’d more than willingly be!
